2 days ago ISIS killed 42 people in Lebanon, anyone heard about it? I bet no, how bout we make GW items out of that?

Not that making French/Lebanon stuff in game would be of any support to anyone, its as much help as the facebook french flag profile pic cover.

HoT = Burnout

I’m seeing alot of discussion about how mastery relates to burn out, that’s not the case.
Mastery = Millions of experience
Millions of experience = time buffer so people don’t realize the mastery system is non-beneficial and shallow character progression.
At its core, mastery is just something to keep consumers occupied. You aren’t doing anything original or unique. It’d be a different story if the player actually learned the itzel language (etc.) by doing related activities.

Ah, I just made a comment to this effect on another post – you’re exactly right; if mastery was related to trying to do the things you are mastering, it would make sense and wouldn’t be a 9999999999999999XP grind (which is a lot of veteran spiders, by the way). Like trying out jumping mushrooms ~40 times before it actually takes you in the right direction and doesn’t get you nearly killed, or something like that.

The issue with that is it’s easily bypassed. I could literally just stand next to one mushroom in one corner of a map and jump on it over and over again until I unlock that mastery. Same thing with Itzel lore, just talk to the same npcs over and over again. So how do you slow people down so they don’t unlock all the masteries instantly and devalue the point of masteries meaning to be the long-term horizontal progression?

I still haven’t preordered.

Well since the game is already live it’s no wonder you can’t pre-order

HoT isn’t a preorder? You must be “having a blast” in raids… owait… Maybe you’re using a swag new legendary weapon… owait… Maybe you’re playing awesome new WvW features?… owait…

Also on a thread related note, i’m doing map completion and taking bets on whether or not it’ll be locked behind HoT too (and by extension legendary weapon crafting).

Nah, but I am having a blast with my elite spec, and with the new PvE content (and the gliding), and the story, and the Revenant, and so on…

let me make an analogy

you pay 10$ for a gym membership (i know that’s cheap) that gives you access to all their machines and weights.
one day they upgrade the gym and include a swimming pool. to access the swimming pool you need to pay 10$ extra to access it.

But you don’t know how to swim so you don’t need to pay the 10$ extra to use the pool. so you keep paying your 10$.

Except now you can’t use the weights either on the gym floor, you can only use the machines. If you want to use the weights you need to pay for the pool

that is what is happening with HoT and the guild bonuses.
you paid 50$ to get the core that included guild bonuses.
you are not interested in the expansion so they remove the guild bonuses.

they did something similar to fractals.

To use your analogy, what they actually did was remove the freeweight room, and replaced it with a pool, then asked you for a one time fee to help cover the cost of the pool. You can still use the gym, just not the pool, and nobody can use the freeweight room because it no longer exists.

This is the best analogy of what happened.

What we should really be complaining about….something that I haven’t seen anybody mention:

The new guild buffs can only be used one at a time. You have to choose which buff is active. That’s a huge nerf.

It’s also completely intentional.

The old system was a constant influence sink to keep up buffs. It’s major problem was that it was trivial to maintain for large guilds, and impossible to maintain for small guilds.

The new system is a front loaded cost, but once it is paid it’s done. This makes it a more accessible system for guilds of all sizes. large guilds may get the upgrades done sooner, but small guilds that take a little longer still have the same access to those buffs.

The old system was initially designed so that you couldn’t afford to have everything at once due to the ongoing costs, but the design was kind of broken by large guilds. The new system is much closer to the intent of the design, while making it more accessible and customizable for all guilds and their members.

The entire guild system revamp was done to reward players tackling economic and content challenges together in a way that’s compelling for guilds of all sizes, and rewards them well. The influence system, and by extension the old buff and banner acquisition model was funkitten tally broken specifically because past certain point as your guild grew, they didn’t just become easier to get. They became essentially free due to all the login and passive inf from people just playing the game, even if every one of them was playing completely alone all the time. meanwhile smaller guilds under the old system could play together every day and still get nowhere near the amount of benefit from their guild.

As for non-HoT players not being able to access HoT services. Honestly, guild halls are part of the expansion. I’m suprised they let those players donate to the treasury or enter the hall in the first place. It’s a buy to play game. It’s not unreasonable to expect that people buy the occasional “required” expansion to gain the lion’s share of content and benefits when that means there are not monthly fees or seemingly “required” cash shop items.

The more you give away for free, the less expansion revenue is gained, and you have to make that money somewhere, which in turn means pushing the gem store much more agressively. The expansion model as a one time equal cost is far more fair to the consumer than predatory and annoying practices like black lion keys to drive revenue.

I think the vendor probably allows access to other things aswell, one way to fix this would be to move the boons to a different NPC or something. That way they can keep the NPC HoT-restricted but still allow core players to make use of the old boons.

The vendor in question, the bartender, only offers guild boons. Given that they have put the bartender in the guild building in LA, where anyone can reach him, makes me think they meant everyone to have access. Why else would he be there? He literally doesn’t do anything else..

This is probably (hopefully) a bug.

Content in this or any game is tailored to a certain number of players. Not everything in GW2 can be done by one player. And it would be ridiculous for anyone to say that every dungeon, every world boss, everything in GW2 should be doable by the solo player. Or even duos.

You want a guild hall for two people? Go hire some mercenaries to help you clear the guild hall. Heck 10g and I’d be happy to come. And if you think hiring 10 players for a 100g to clear the guild hall is a burden, then I have news for you when you get to upgrading the guild hall later…

I believe it’s wrong for small guilds to expect to have access to what larger guilds have achieved through their teamwork and commitment. It is right though to expect some sort of functionality and effort/reward system to be put in place in game that is reasonably able to be acquired for smaller guilds (i.e. 5-10 players). After all, there are a lot more smaller guilds out there than there are larger guilds.

I really want to swear at you for this statement: I payed the EXACT same price (beta player early start whatever) as you did or any other person at start, and you are basically saying I have not the same rights with my 2 person guild as a 500 person guild? So so , so shortsighted of you. I payed FULL price, I want FULL game being able to come to me in what ever shape or form, PLAY HOW YOU WANT, was their sales slogan, clearly now it is PLAY AS ALL OTHER MILLIONS OR LEAVE!

I really DO NOT care if it takes me 6 months or a year to achieve the same goals as a full 500 guild can do within 2 days, but I should BE ABLE to do so, and currently it is NOT possible! Oh wait yeah /insert whiney voice: HURRDURR JOIN A BIG GUILD, USE LFG!
No it should NOT be needed to do so. once again I payed full price, I want FULL access to ALL features, EVEN if it is hard to achieve or very costly, and once again it is NOT possible with the current system!

Swear and get upset all you like, but doing so doesn’t help anything. I agree with some of what you’ve said. But you have to look at it from all points of view, just not our own.

Paying for a game does not automatically entitle any of us to everything within that game. It never ever has been the way nor should it ever be the way. And it certainly has never been the way in MMOs in general. Using that same line of entitled thinking one could also argue that all the access/rewards in the upcoming raids should also be achievable by those that solo/duo/group. No one would ever ask for that, because it simply doesn’t make sense.

What I think there should be in place are a set of rewards/goals specifically designed for smaller/medium-sized guilds too. Right now as we know the focus is almost exclusively on larger guilds. As an example; I’d like to see guild halls available that are more designed for the smaller guild (like I wrote above), and other smaller scale target goals, that would logically become a focus for smaller guilds. It’s all about balance, and – most importantly – variety when it comes to MMOs. Right now Guild Wars 2 lacks this variety with regards to guild functionality.

There should be incentives and rewards for guilds of all sizes in the game. Asking for smaller guilds to have the same options, regardless of the work involved, takes away some of the reward from the larger guilds. I don’t think doing that is the best way forward.

850 hours of pvp is fun. 5 hours of spider farming is not.

And besides there’s literally nothing you can get from pvp that you couldn’t get from pve. Those finishers are essentially useless to you, since you won’t finish anyone in pve. I mean yeah there’s WvW but that’s not relevant to the conversation.

Please speak for yourself. 850 hours of PvP is the worst GW2 related torture I can imagine.

If we PvE people have to suffer through stuff like this, it is reasonable(not fair to all of us!) that every part of gameplay is affected. I have to walk through millions of xp to come to auto loot, something that is just a convenience feature for example.

Hey I don’t want to spend 850 hours playing PvP to get my dragon finisher. You don’t want to spend 5 hours killing spiders to get an ascended weapon. Who really has the short end of the stick here.

Not that it matters but there are a few enemies in PvE that you can/must “finish”. Like all those special veterans with the mordrem seed events in Kessex Hills, Brisbane, etc. that spawn from time to time (look for big yellow flower symbol on the map). There you can parade your finishers in PvE

GMs are awful in this game

Every game treats GMs differently and bestows on them different levels of power. Invariably, there is some GM who has power who screws with the players in ways from benignly minor to gamebreakingly and facerendingly unfair.

In Meridian 59, there was a GM who decided to just summon people into a boss room to get killed, then summon them again and again. There were also reports of them simply deleting inventory off players or otherwise interfering.

In EverQuest, there was a GM who summoned players and made their respawn location at the feet of hyper-aggressive raptors at the high end of the level spectrum. There was also multiple cases where they would ban first and ask questions . . . never. “Guilty until we feel like checking if you were innocent.”

ArenaNet made the decision early on to not have active GMs who could access that kind of power, so incidents like these or worse could not happen. I mean, imagine if a disgruntled/trollish GM decided to simply use his account to remove all Precursors from the TP. Or force-fail Dragon’s Stand. Or to reset random guild halls.

The price we pay for the safety against such actions is the inability of them to do anything.

I need a new computer to actually get personal work done as this laptop sucks and stuff hangs and freezes, yet GW 2 runs somehow albeit on less than 10 fps and lots of lag in zergs.

GW 2 is not the priority for me, its making something for myself or out of myself and making money, having a good PC play the game effectively and in the nice graphics you are touting is only a bonus for me but not as important… I actually like all low-medium and native sampling resolution better than all Ultra/High as the light sources and stuff are too bright and blinding to me.

Even if I got a new PC to play it, I’d probably bring it all back to low again I played games on crap settings for so long,Its better for my eyes anyways.

That’s the problem with your suggestion. It would invalidate years of work for millions of accounts. And for what? Some shinier graphics.

Hey i would not be here if it was not for the graphic and the fantastic gameplay!

The graphics are ok. The gameplay… Compared to Guild Wars 1, this is straight “dps everything down” compared to a strategy game of positioning, careful use of skills and interrupts and targeting the most important first.

the graphic is fantastic! come on u are being too hard on the game!

I see you don’t argue about the gameplay part.

Since I play on a lower end computer, graphics aren’t really there for me. They are ok.

I really recommend u go buy a computer from places such as digital storm and run the game on all graphic settings maximum!! You will love it!

I see you don’t argue about the gameplay.

Graphics aren’t that important to me. It may be to you, but I don’t care that much about it.

I dont argue about gameplay because I think the gameplay is fine! I really dont like very complicated metas in all honesty!

Such a pity then you weren’t forced to move out of a game you enjoyed and an account and characters you worked years on to another game to start completely over, not because you wanted to or because you thought the game play was better but because your game, that you liked so much, was abandoned by the devs. If you had, maybe you would understand why people wouldn’t want to be forced to leave behind all their hard work and memories.

I hear you, I am sorry you had to go through that, however I must point out every life have an end and every life have a beginning! I use to love Age of empire and between the age of 10 and 18 I played age of empire all day long when I am not at school. But eventually microsoft abandoned MSN GAMING ZONE and my favorite RTS was also abandoned including all my guild mates, my high rating, my memories! I know that feeling but thats life!

Well, I have no interest in repeating the experience again for what is to me, an extremely trivial reason, improved graphics. No interest in having gw2 sit, nothing new added for several years while they make gw3 (you don’t actually think they’ll be giving you lots of new content if they decide to move on do you. If you do, you’re not thinking it through. Just them making an expansion meant months of no new content. A new game would means years of stagnation).

you don’t sound too happy with guild war 2!

I’m happy enough. Now. I didn’t appreciate them making the decision to abandon my game, my account, my chars, and I wouldn’t appreciate them doing it again. But I have an account now that I’ve put years of work on. So it’s cool. The game has its advantages that offsets losing everything I put years of work into, in the old version.

Like I said starting over in a new game is great, if youre the one making the choice to do so. It’s not so great if it’s not really your choice, like you’re suggesting they do again.

Yeh, I think I understand you, starting over if it is not your choice sucks. But as a suggestion, I highly recommend you buy a more powerful computer make sure it has a very good geforce graphic card, then turn the graphic setting to very high, trust me you will not regret spending the money or time I have to go now, going to play a little guild war 2 and it was nice chatting with you!

Yeah, because everyone has the money to buy a better computer to do something that’s not important to them (improved graphics in this case).

No thanks to gw3. I have no wish to leave all my chars, progression, gold, items, weapons and armor to start over AGAIN like I did from Guild Wars 1 to Guild Wars 2.

starting all over again is part of the fun!

“Losing” all my chars that I spent years playing on because ANet wanted to start over wasn’t.

you start over everytime you play a new Elder Scroll series, a fall out series, a dragon age origin series, a mass effect series!

If you move to another game voluntarily, then that’s your choice. But they stopped supporting a game I was playing. The game essentially died and I had to either stay in a game that was on life support or move, and lose everything. I did not want to start over. I did not want to lose my chars, my items, my titles. I did so, but not because I wanted to move to a new game.

that’s life, people eventual die and so does your character!

Don’t be facetious.

It’s not “life” Your characters don’t “die”

They stopped supporting a game I was playing to make another game. At that point I was forced to make a choice. Abandon my account that I had spent years working on to start completely over or stay in a game abandoned by the devs. It was my choice to start over, but it wasn’t a choice because I wanted to start over in a new game.

It’s completely different if you chose a new game. Then of course it’s fun to start over. Starting over when it wasn’t something you wanted to do, is not.
