Unplayable Solo

OP, you’re not speaking for me. Either I count for many solo players or the situation you’re describing is exaggerated and just down to whining about not managing a challenge… and that doesn’t really reflect well.

The last few times I’ve been to Maguuma I’ve come to outposts and places where events are ongoing and I’ve solo’d them since the WPs have been contested. After completing them alone, then other players have WP’d there because I see them arrive immediately. And it’s been the same many places I’ve been.

do you go to an exam unprepared?
do you revise chapter over and over its not a grind?

you don’t want poison resistance? tribal local assistance? its about mastering the Jungle man.

GW series is not about grind gear, and toppling bosses sorry, then WOW and FFXIV is for you.

GW series has always been story, and the journey its not for players who token grind and just sit

Lol of all the pitiful threads I’ve read today, this one just feels outright sad. There’s so many people in this game who are just ready to rise up and complain at the slightest discomfort I can’t believe it lol. I mean really, asking for a refund now? For one they already released a considerable amount of info both in the form of videos and announcements and in the beta tests so I didn’t think most things were to unexpected. Am I particularly happy about some of the changes and having to go hard for specs and masteries? Maybe not but I have other fun things to do while I do them so who cares lol. Even if I did buy the expansion though and hated everything about it I would never ask for a refund however. I made the decision to spend money on it and if the game didn’t meet up with what I wanted it to well that sucks but to bad. I honestly think this expansion is what a lot of players need, people have been complaining about easy content for a while now well guess what, here you go lol you asked for this! Now not everything’s handed to everyone and you have to work a little for it, be happy people asked for this after all. X3 Just wish people could learn to take GW2 for what it is, a game, and stop acting like they’ve been cheated every time the game doesn’t go in the direction they want it to.

I'd like a refund.

Those that are complaining about group content realize that you don’t actually have to group up to do the content…it only means that there should be a group to do the content. I almost never join formal groups, I just run around the map finding events and do them, if others are there, fine…if not, that’s fine too. You can solo most of the map, it will just take you longer than normal…and HP points are split 50/50 between events and channeling, so it’s an even amount between solo and group.

Been playing alone for the past 2 days. No problems here.

You might have to press some other buttons than 1 though. Might be a problem for a lot of you?

It can be done solo, but the problem I’ve encountered is that we (the playerbase) have been spoon fed ‘easy mode’ in the Core game for so long that now that Anet has turned things up to 11, we are having a difficult time.

Some of us will adapt over time (and many tears), some of us will leave for easier/ less stressful fair.

Of course there is a 3rd prediction …

Expansion and Why I am loving it.

This may very well be my first ever forum post but I feel as though I needed to post it.
I will break this post into two sections. Quick overview of the complaints many people have and then the reasons why I am loving the expansion.

Complaints
Everything is time gated

Elite spec is taking forever to get.
In my opinion(yes my own opinion) This is the only part of the expansion i was disappointed with until I realized something. I couldn’t use any utility, save my healing skill, at the launch of guild wars 2 I had to level and every certain amount of levels I unlocked the ability to purchase new skills with skill points. Could I get all the skills right away? No sometimes i wouldn’t have the required amount of skill points.

Mastery’s require too much exp
Mastery’s were not made to be completed in 1 day or 2 days they are something that you work towards as a goal. Throw on a kill streak booster. Exp Boosters and use other consumables that grant you % exp and they level up super fast.. MY guess is that 95% of the people complaining are also not using any sort of food buff…..

Why I am Loving this expansion
It made the game feel like it did when it first came out. All the exploring to do all the hidden rooms to find. (Already found a few hidden places that are pretty freaking amazing eyegasms)

After realizing that the elite spec actually required some work to get it I am loving the challenge some of the Hero points have. Brings more focus to the game then running full zerker and pushing 1. Granted I am still in my full zerker gear but I am having to rely more on my positioning and skill usage to make sure I do not go down during most fights. Remember we do have a dodge function for a reason.

Anticipation for raids is starting to kill me. With some of the new mechanics in open world pve the raid difficulty is going to feed a hunger for something hard to do in the game.

Fractals: Oh where to begin. This may be one of the most ingenious updates to a “dungeon” like mode of the game yet. I was a little shocked by the price of ascended salvage kits but the amount of rewards you get after completing fractal mastery’s is crazy. Only made it to fractal level 65 so far and some of the maps are requiring my normal group of friends and I to take a step back and think about each encounter. I have even done a few fractal 60’s with a friend that does not have HoT.

HoT Story: This might be my favorite part of this update. MY goodness did the actual story bring me back to remembering the good old guild wars 1 days.

Tl;Dr I enjoy the expansion and people need to just take a chill pill and play the game and the unlocks will come.

Do NOT cave on Elite specializations. Everyone already gets access to the new weapon skills that can be used to further unlock the rest of the traits by PLAYING THE GAME. Unlocking your elite traits is no different than how you would progress new characters in other mmos. You get skills every other level by…PLAYING THE GAME. Just like in GW2 you get traits and skills by playing the game. You only need 40 HP…less if you prepared yourself for this expansion. Are you guys new to MMO’s? And once you unlock the mysteries needed to get to the HPs on your first character the rest of your characters won’t have to unlock anything.

GW1 was the same way. You had to go out and do quest to obtain skills or save all of your plat and buy your skills from a vendor. Everybody just wants to race strait to the end.

…these events are the most amazing thing about hot, they are the best events gw2 has ever had, if you don’t like doing events, why are you playing GW2? And no it doesn’t force yyou to run them over and over, at least not if you actively participate, the kill xp is what levels your masteries the fastest.

You don’t force people to run it simply because you think it’s amazing, it’s up to their choice. Why should I spend hours and hours to grind when I just want to enjoy the story?

It does, especially the level 4 mastery require many hours to achieve.

Because the events are as much part of the story as the kitten personal story is, it’s really naive to say “i just want to enjoy the story” when you are actively ignoring 90% of this game’s story.

I can get the QQ about elite specs, i don’t agree with it but i can get it, however the QQ about the story it utter bullkitten. If you want to play the story then play the story, events are part of this story.

I don’t think this is good at all, this forced people to actually run events over and over again, and it’s about the only mastery that really did.

While I have no horse in this race I do find it odd that people are angry that they can’t have solo guild content. Considering the point of a guild is a group of people in pursuit of a common goal. Not one person stroking their kitten at the thought of being in a guild of one. So it isn’t surprising that they would make guilds more evolved around the group of people part than the guilds with one person.

Are you joking? Obtaining a guild hall for your one mans banking guild? A guildhall is supposed to be a place for a guild (of players), this is not housing or something. So tired of the new generation of gamers who want everything spoonfed and soloable in an MMO. If you want to only solo a game, theres many great single player games. And no you are not entitled in any way. Whats next? wanting to do raids Soloable?

Also, you can be in more than one guild.

I’m one of two founders/leaders of a small casual (~10 person) guild of friends and family. Over the years we have had mainly 3-4 active people but not very much co-ordinated efforts where we’d do things together.

We were able to aquire a guild hall on our second attempt. First we tried to get it with just 3 players and failed. Then we just went the route of using party search tool and offered 1 gold per person for the assistance. We were able to capture Gilded Hollow with a 5-man party.

Oh, and we were able to get enough Favor for the hall and for the first expansion of the hall by doing one easy mission in WvW with the same 3-man team we used to first try for the hall itself.

It’s not just useless, but entirely beside the point, to tell people who like to play solo or have a private guild with their spouse or a friend but still want to experience the full game that they’re playing it “wrong” or that they “should” be playing it some other way. Child, please (as they say). A successful gaming enterprise adapts to the demand of their audience.

Obviously there’s demand for guild halls for small guilds. It’s in this thread and it’s in the threads of the forums for several major guilds I’m in. The question is simply why ANet feels that they’ll make more money if they gate content for guilds through pushing people to play in groups larger than pairs.

In MY case, every guild I’m in has voted to go for the same guild hall, and I like the OTHER one, so it’s just a matter of wanting to have a little place for my spouse and me to fool around in. Given the amount of people I’ve seen in my larger guilds (I belong to several guilds with members numbering in the hundreds) who are wanting to have personal guild halls, there’s demand, and I tend to think a large portion of them are not people who purely play solo.

I can think of this workaround or that—that’s not the point. The point is, I shouldn’t have to. Is there really some kind of financial harm for ANet to allow people who want this, to have it?

At the moment at least, I am unable to see why it’s necessary to gate the guild hall acquisition behind such a circular, cumbersome and frustrating path to favor.

Your problem is your asking for the wrong thing, what you truely want is player housing instances. Your asking anet to change content designed for LARGE groups of players to cater to solo/duo players because it has a feature somewhat similar for what you really are looking for

Here’s the deal, they’re called GUILD Halls, notice the emphasis on GUILD. A guild should always be about several people joining forces, not a one man army. If anybody has a problem with that, well I’m sorry, DEAL WITH IT. You’re never going to do Raids or claim a Guild Hall on your own, because it’s not meant to be that. You have plenty of other game content you can go and do alone. But if you really expect to glorify yourself soloing a group oriented content, you’ve probably hit yourself in the head way too many times. You really think entire guilds coordinate themselves and bust their behinds to claim a hall, and you’re just gonna do it on your own? LOOOOOL Child please! Here’s a suggestion, add more people to the guild (which is made specifically to have more people in it to begin with), claim the hall, kick them out, and stop the QQ. And lastly, before you start replying and cursing me because I’m speaking some sense into this post, consider this, regardless of how you feel about this, you’re not getting no Guild Hall alone, or Raids, no matter how hard you complain, because it’s GROUP ORIENTED CONTENT!!!!!!!!!! What’s next, people complaining because they can’t solo in PvP against a team of 5? ;p

You guys are complaining because you need to play with other people in an MMO. Funny. Fair enough you want to do things on your own, but don’t get mad at Anet because you want to be alone in a GUILD.

Perhaps you should have done research into guild halls. They did state that you need a group in order to get them.

Can someone please explain to me why sooo many people have such a huge problem actually playing the content they paid for in order to progress their characters. I mean why even buy it if you are so against playing it. I just dont get it x.x

Seriously you are that unaware that you think everyone plays the game the same way? Guess what some people do not like the tedious open world content in this game, but until now that hasn’t restricted your actual gameplay in other areas, if you were levelling a character and weren’t keen on open world PvE you had plenty of other options – EoTM, WvW, crafting, PvP, tomes, dungeons, etc.

With this people who for example enjoy fractals, dungeons and raids, but can’t stand open world PvE, are forced to go grind these tedious PvE zones as that is where the hero points are.

Maybe you are new, but this game was sold on things like “lack of grind”, “play your own way”, the way getting these new specialisations is handled is contrary to those philosophies.

There is some misunderstanding here that seems to come up every time someone throws around “play your way” and “no grind”. I would recommend doing some research and finding the origins of these sayings before repeating them. For example, the classic “play your way” was in reference to there being no dedicated roles in the game. The example they gave was about no waiting on healers to clear certain content. They even released this little comic strip to illustrate what they were saying.

Now for my own opinion for the mastery exp is that it really is not that bad. Yea it is millions of exp but you only have to do it once. For example, when you complete gliding all your characters have max level gliding which is a lot better compared to other games that raise the level cap to where you have to get millions of exp on multiple toons along with gearing them up as well. All in all, it’s not as bad as people are making it out to be and is a lot better than what most MMOs usually do with expansions.
