“Oh… I didn’t see you there.”

This happens in many places but in the DR bank it is the worst. Not only do they repeat this over and over, but all the vendors/tellers say it. Monotonous much?

Let’s think about why anet made this dialogue: to make the world seem more “alive”. Does looping dialogue work towards this goal? No. Pretty soon it does the opposite. It makes the world feel like it’s full of scripted animatronics. If the goal is a more life-like world, the dialogue needs to be more dynamic. Or less obviously looping. Greater spans of time between each repetition at the very least. Like others, I’ve also taken to playing without sound because the dialogue is ruining an otherwise immersive experience. And that’s a shame.

It annoys me more that my characters say stuff like “May Lyssa confound you” all the kitten time, I follow no gods and neither would my character.

Doesn’t this only happen though, if you have [Prayer to Lyssa] equipped?

That’s how it’s supposed to be, yeah. But there’s been a bug where your Human character will hear/say it if ANY other player uses it. That’s probably what he’s talking about.

Any time I wonder if the Queen held enough of us back to protect DR, if it comes to that, or get concerned that Mordremoth can attack anywhere, or realize that Marjory has to give me a kiss, I just remember CITIZENS! and life is copacetic once more.

Also, who remembers that super happy woman in DR? She finally got some soundproofing in her bedroom. I’ll take the guidance of stars over that any time

Hey, that’s an interesting idea! They don’t have a sexy Antonio Banderas spanish version, do they?

Just had a thought… an alternate voice pack sold on the gem store, which replaces the npcs voices. Imagine the kodan in LA telling you “Life is a trial”.. in Darth Vader’s voice. I’d be like… “Are.. are you my father?”

Or imagine that other merchant saying “You break it, I break you” in Christopher Walken’s voice.. O_O

Bloodstone Crazed Creatures Event

These events are training me out of my completionist habits. I’m finding I don’t have the desire to complete every cheevo.

^
This.
Right here.

I want to participate in these events, but I’m not going to waste play time that I could be helping my guild in fractals, completing collections, chasing achievements, or doing HoT metas.

HoT metas already got a lot of heat for being on stupidly long timers (hi, Dragon Stand, I missed you again, because I wasn’t in LFG a half hour before you started last night), and then ANet continues to run these events in different zones on a 2-3 hour rotation.

The bandit bosses are on the border for acceptable wait time for content, so factor that into your future calculations, dev team.

Many alts; handle it!

I managed to finish these events yesterday. The longest wait was in VB. After goofing around in that zone for about 40 minutes I looked at Dulfy’s guide and noticed that the Wyvern was also scheduled to appear in TD so off I went. It spawned within 30 minutes.

The other creatures spawned within about 30 to 45 minutes. I was fortunate to land in maps where people were having fun – playing music and using those boxes. And gathering – wood, ore, and plants.

The waiting around was similar to doing Triple Trouble and Tequatl or the other World Bosses. You wait.

There is so much salt around these events. Why are you folks so angry at not being able to complete them within 1 day of implementation? These events are going to be available for the next few weeks at the very least, more likely the next few months..at least until the next living world chapter is released.

These events were patched into the game one day ago. One day! They aren’t even that difficult to do! Like Vayne, I finished everything within about five hours today and I honestly for the life of me could not understand why everyone is so salty over these bloodstone spawns. They spawn on a fairly reliable schedule. Join a squad via LFG, join the map early, and someone in the squad will link when the legendary boss spawns. Are you bored while waiting for the mobs to spawn? Then do something. Kill stuff in the area to farm loot. Run other miscellaneous events. Harvest from lumber or metal nodes on the map while you wait. There are LOTS of things you could be doing with your time while you wait the 30 minutes or so for the boss to spawn… Anet is not forcing you to stand still at the waypoint to get credit for the event.

This is not rocket science, folks… in fact, it’s practically no different than any typical world boss. What happens if you join a world boss map too late? Oops, you missed the fight, sorry! You’ll have to wait until next time. That’s no different than the bloodstone bosses.

The salt around these current events just astounds me.

Hope for future hard level content...

I can’t even coordinate with enough people to try the Vale Guardian, and the few times I tried everyone just walked out the door. Can’t imagine any pleasure doing even more punishing stuff.

That’s the thing though. It was nowhere near as painful to fill a group for UW, even without anything close to the cool lfg tool we have now, than raid can be atm.

The current raid feels more like some kind of guitar hero that ask ppl to repeat a precise dance (dancing heroes?) with a more or less flexible team comp until it’s good enough. The difficulty in UW was mostly trying not to to chew more than you could handle at any given moment. It was more careful aggro management than all needing to jump inside green circle and avoid blue until 75% then clap your hands. I never was a fan of that kind of mechanics which make team recruitment far less flexible and thus harder.

(Note: This is all in reference to condi builds.)

Except people haven’t seemed to consider base condi necro, not reaper. The pathing on RS2 is borked anyway. Don’t kite. Aloha snackbar it and burst them down. If you’re going to die, take them down with you.

Condi berserker is much stronger than condi thieves imo. Perplex nerf borked condi thieves (and to a lesser extent, mesmers) and so they aren’t quite so annoying anymore.

Condi mesmers are only difficult if you allow the fight to drag out. Play aggressively, load them with condis from the get-go, DS2 into DS3.

I personally think necro is the best condi class. I see a lot of talk about damage coming mainly from transferring conditions. There’s no need to kitten yourself so. Just spam corrupts.

Necro is absolutely viable for roaming. Yes, you will be countered by certain builds and yes, you will encounter cheese. That’s something you have to accept. It’s not all doom and gloom.

Mesmer subforum is almost as bad with the wallowing in self-pity. If you’re looking to play support, unfortunately you’d be well advised to play another class. If, however, you like burst, play necro/reaper.

Having players around you have fun with makes the overwhelming wins & loses seem inconsequential (because they are).

As for our SF and DH opponents. Being outnumbered is a pain, we know all to well. Hang in there, it won’t last. Keep being tenacious like this SF ele a couple nights ago that kept coming to SW camp to charge into two of us standing in there. It just kept getting melted over and over again. He/she did this for over an hour. It was surreal.

There never has been a time that armor and outfits could mix and match. I’m not sure why you thought it would be different in this one case.

There was a time, long long ago, when you could use the bottom portion of a costume with your own helmet, or use the helm of a costume with your own armor…

This time was called Guild Wars 1

Another possibility is that many people returned to the game, decided to buy from a gold seller to “catch up” and got tricked.

According to various articles I’ve read (about gold selling generally, not just in GW2) it’s really not uncommon for them to steal accounts from their own customers. They trick people into giving away their login details when signing up for their service (in some cases it’s as simple as requiring you to register with their site and counting on people using the same email and password) and then if you don’t keep buying from them or if they simply decide there’s more benefit from stealing your account than selling to you they’ll take it over.

I actually think they did a really good job with the free accounts.

In my mind it’s a lot like the idea of shareware (which doesn’t seem to exist anymore, at least not for games), basically an extended demo. Because you can play for as long as you want, in all the core game maps (not right away, but you don’t have to pay to unlock them) and you’ve got access to all the levels and skills you can see whatever aspects of the game you want to decide if it’s something you want to pay for.

None of the restrictions actually prevent you playing the game (although I find the lack of map chat incredibly frustrating), but they do seem to do a good job of preventing abuse of free accounts by gold sellers. I suspect sooner or later they will affect most people, especially being unable to trade most items. But at that point it’s probably time to make your mind up and if you’re going to keep playing actually buy the game.

Which is another thing I like. In most free to play games you’d either have to pay a subscription to lift those restrictions (meaning it gets more expensive the longer you play) or pay for each one individually, which often ends up far more expensive than buying a full game. Whereas I feel like GW2 is very up-front about it. It’s 1 payment to lift all the restrictions in one go.

When I hear stripped down I think of other MMOs with F2P versions that are more like trials with limit access to classes with gold and level caps. And that’s on top of similar chat restrictions.

“Sripped down” is yet another example of forum hyperbole in an attempt to bolster a position that isn’t defendable from the get go.

When you hear it. Doesn’t mean that was the meaning designated by the person who said it or that other people interpret it in the same manner.

stripped-down
adjective
reduced to essentials.

Now, what other than those two words did you object to in my posts? Because right now it seems like you’re trying to argue about nothing based on one phrase that you’ve decided to give a more exaggerated personal meaning.
Also please bear in mind that you took on a f2p account as an already established and experienced player of GW2; your items and gold might not have been transferable to EU but your knowledge was. You already knew how to make those restrictions not matter as much. Newer players (using my boyfriend and f2pers that’ve been recruited to my guild) don’t have that advantage and in my personal observational experience have run into quite a few of the walls that don’t bother you as an already knowledgeable player. The TP restrictions are what seem to catch a lot of people but again, I understand why they’re there.

Considering expansions are generally required to stay current and progress in a game, just compare what HoT gives you that f2p doesn’t. The gap between f2p and core isn’t huge in terms of content (I’d say the restrictions affect how you go about things more than content itself), but when you factor in that HoT is required to progress the story to now, I’d say that part of the game is most certainly ‘stripped down’, whether you like it or not (using my definition, not your hyperbolic one). It’s like being able to read the first few pages of a book on Amazon before you buy it, which is perfectly fine in my eyes.

There’s not so many/harsh restrictions that it’d put most people off playing f2p, but the hand of ANet is firmly encouraging you to pay if you want to do more than just the basics, which is a good thing.

I’m not sure what you’re trying to pick a fight over other than personal definitions of a phrase; I’m pro f2p and I feel it’s been implemented fairly but whatever gets you through the day I guess -shrugs-

True, that is the definition but in colloquial usage it’s commonly used in a derogatory way. “Oh, you bought the stripped down model, do the windows even roll down?” If that’s not what you meant then I’m sorry.

The thing is the chat restrictions is no different than say the trial version of WoW but unlike a trial you have the full game in terms of core content. But comparing F2P with HoT and then complain about F2P is totally unfair. When you are leveling, there is very little you are missing by not having HoT, basically account wide mastery unlocks and picking Revenant. Once you hit 80 then yes, there is a lot of content you are missing out on but that’s the carrot to BUY the game cause at the end of the day ANet runs on cash.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

If you look at it as an rpg; there are additional time gates for exiting starter zones and wvw, etc, however all aspects of gameplay are available to the f2p. So it isn’t stripped down from that perspective.

However, as a mmo; f2p is severely restricting because of the social and economic restrictions. After all, those are some of the most important factors that differentiate mmos from single player games.

I personally feel it strikes a good balance when compared to other game’s f2p models.
