To figure out a cost of crafting you have to look at the total value of the input to the total value of the output.
For example, crafting an ancient wood plank requires 3 ancient wood logs.
The market gives a value of between 5s86c and 5s85c to an ancient wood log.
The market gives a value of between 16s and 17s 49c to an ancient wood plank.
So it takes at least 17s55c in value (3 ancient wood logs) to craft an ancient wood plank (worth at most 17s 49c). So each time you do it, you lose (at least) 6c in value.
Your actual bank balance is irrelevant to the cost of crafting, because it ignores what it could have been had you gathered and sold versus crafted.

Stop moaning, would you rather have no ascended and have a huge gap between exotics and legendary.
Simply put, yes. A couple of points everyone seem to forget.
1) Before ascended gear legendaries had the same stats as exotics, so there was not a huge cap in stats.
2) Currently people argue that there is not a huge gap between exotics and ascended, therefore, without ascended there would still not be a huge gap between exotics and legendaries, even if legendaries kept the same stats as the current Ascended.
3) Nothing about crafting an ascended item helps you craft a legendary. So, to me, using the huge gap argument to support the introduction of ascended gear is like saying there is a huge gap between a Toyota and a Ferrari so we’ll introduce a Mercedes. If you get a Mercedes, you have in no way shortened the gap to getting a Ferrari, in many ways you’ve made it longer.
Before ascended weapons, there was no gap beteeen exotics and legendaries statistically. Now there is.
But my issue isn’t so much with the tier but rather the implementation. There are no “legends” behind legendaries. It’s all about gold.
There’s nothing to transcend to get ascendeds, other than your bank account.
“Play how you want”
“Equal playing field for all”
“No grind”
Ya right… There is only 1 reliable way to obtain ascended weapons… Crafting? Why… name a single game were end game gear is obtainable only through crafting. Not only that but you decided to go ahead and add 100 crafting levels, BUT were too lazy to add 425/475 recipes resulting in forcing people to use 400/450 recipes to level, making it cost so much that the majority of players will never earn that much. How much? The cheapest is just around 200g for ONE profession. Source: http://gw2crafts.net/weaponcraft_400.html
Not a single thing this patch addressed the major problem with crafting… the fact that you cannot in any way shape or form make money from any crafting prof, before it was just a means for rich players to level an alt to 80 in a day, now its just a means to grind for ascended gear.
Why were fractals completed ignored? Now we have 55 AR max but you were too lazy to remove the 50 cap (which was stupid in the first place, i cant even think of a logical answer for putting the 50 cap on fractals). Asceneded weapons could of cost 15-25 relics, giving people who like somewhat challenging PvE content a way to acquire asc weapons.
WvWvW? How about making ascended weapons purchasable via badges?
I mean this game pretty much became P2W/G2W after this patch, you can whine and say its only a 5%/10% increase, but its still goes completely against the GW philosophy to give rich/lucky/gem buyers a sizable advantage over the general population.
And this is coming from someone with 500 wpn smith / 472 soon to be 500 huntsman.
And before you say “B-But it can drop” realize the chance is somewhere around getting struck by lighting, but not only that you want to get struck by the lighting you want (stats). It’s nothing you would rely on.
I’d rebuy gw1 in a heartbeat if it had the visuals of gw 2 but gw 3 would just be a total waste.
I’d want the lore back, the enemies and of course: cantha.
Oh and for classes to mean something other than “why are you a ranger? switch to your guard/war/mes please.”
“Guild Wars 3 takes everything you loved about Guild Wars 2 …”
More gambling, no guilds, space battles, more rainbow weapons, pony mounts.
I would like GW3 to be GW1 updated.
It wont happen, and after getting so jaded with GW2, ending up not playing it anymore, I doubt I’d even buy GW3 as Anets reputation with me is now worthless.
I’m like that guy above in that I only come here in faint hope someone at the top of Anet has decided to turn the boat around and make GW2 what it (IMO) should be.
Gw2 success was onbehalf of gw1 reputation.
They sold away the reputation with false promises and turning their back on their target audience with an ethic worse than EA.
I don t think they will risk with a gw3 now that the title and anet name lost most of his appeal.
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
in all honesty….and it pains me to say this but i do not think i would buy gw3…at least not at launch
this game was advertised, and promised to be very different than the incarnation it is today
i just do not think i could trust Anet to stay true to it’s promises
i do like gw2, but i do not LOVE gw2, if it were to re-release or if an expansion comes out, i would probably just move on from the game
After the kitten up that GW2 is, why would you even want a GW3?
– Euripides
Too soon for GW3. but in all honesty, i just want a game that is what GW2 was originally advertised as. Well ok, that will draw a lot of fire, let me rephrase…
I want a game which is what i expected of GW2 when i read abt the intitial promises/manifesto.
Easily accessible statistical gear, horizontol progression and all those other stuff people debate abt in the forums. (And please, im just stating here based on the OP topic, not gonna debate on whether or not the game as it is now delivered on promises or not. some ppl think so, some dont)
And yes, no RNG gambling on gemstore
FA/JQ/AB/GvG like it was done in GW1 would be nice ^^
I can see King of the Hill working fairly well with how the game has been designed so far, as long as the capture mechanism is an object you interact with to “flip” the point rather than a Capture Point circle you stand in to cap/decap.
- Bunkers will still have a role in guarding the flip mechanism
- Burst will still have a role in trying to dislodge/distract bunkers from guarding the flip mechanism, or going after the opposing teams burst.
- Support and harrasment specs will have a role in disrupting enemy “supply lines” (Ressing players traveling back to the hill from their home point), and possibly dislodging players guarding the “flip” point and delaying them.
- With only 1 point to hold, comebacks from large point deficits will be possible – a team will have time to examine and adjust their strategies and hopefully re-take the point.
- Most importantly with the “flip” objective being an intractable object rather than a capture point you stand in, the dynamic of holding and flipping the point will be changed enough to shake up the current meta without being so extreme as to force balance changes which are currently all balanced around capture point.
pre-ordered HOT at this point,
save yourself the money and don’t bother.

Some of the GW1 modes may be a good starting spot.
How bout a game mode in which guilds can play competitively against each other?

Sounds expensive to get him to do VO work.
I admire your loyalty. But there is no way I’d put myself through what you all are going through.A game is supposed to be fun, being a prisoner in your own home is no fun.

I’ve seen some unpleasant comments lately within the HoD commander-led zergs and I’d like to see some discussion about it.
My expectation of Commanders (of PUG zerg’s) is to give a group direction and focus. I hope for consistent verbal commentary. I hope they keep our important areas defended and fortified. I hope we have fun and don’t die TOO much. I don’t expect or care if every Commander is a seasoned veteran but I think we have to give them the benefit of the doubt and give them a chance, and not freak out if they make mistakes.
I (as a less experienced player) am happy to follow them and do whatever they want. If I’m cannon fodder or supply runner, that’s fine. I don’t care if they do a lot of PvP fighting. I just want them to lead and take the position seriously (serious as a game can be..)
“Why are you running away when the rest of us are fighting?” (recent chat comment to commander). Why should this person care about that or get very upset in the process? My hope for the person with the blue hat is they are keeping an overview of what’s happening while we get immersed in the grunt work.
Things I’d like to see commanders do more of.
Use TeamSpeak effectively. Too often I only hear idle comments and banter, not clear cut, “hey, you, do THIS and you do THAT”. I don’t want to hear folks talking casually. Sorry MU, but that was kind of the case last night with your TS.
Defend the big keeps. I’m frustrated to lose Stone Mist over and over again while groups run around taking supply camps.
Don’t just run around, keep the communication up. I think you can sacrifice a little speed for typing.
If people have questions/comments via /map, please respond to them. Ie- ‘do you want this or that wall repaired or do we spare this keeps supply?’…etc. Don’t leave me hanging or criticize if I go ahead and do it. Even if I’m not part of the zerg, I’m expect a Commander to answer any general map strategy question. Or not??
I’m not really addressing the guild commanders with organized groups, ie Charter Vanguard, et all are obviously practiced and self-contained. I’m talking about the public non-guild specific groups with volunteer commanders.
It was fine before all the grindy vertical progression was introduced. What about we go back to that?
best Idea ever
We have some thing that will be in the tests for the new map that will help WvW be more alt-friendly. We will talk more about it as we get closer to the test actually beginning.
It’s not rocket surgery. There is pretty much only one acceptable solution, and that is account wide rank. Pretty much everything else falls short.
and while we are at it, how about making exotic / ascended weapons alt friendly also – account bound – not soulbound – it’s unaffordable to test out different combinations of weapons – or for that matter have a collection of weapons I can change my builds with both with mats and vault space, I feel locked into one build for a main because, getting ascended, maxing and gearing up different characters is not easily affordable for people who mostly wvw – wvw doesn’t pay as well as pve – so while I can appreciate the balancing for pve players who can afford it – it’s denying pure wvwr’s of diversity.

whew, that is pretty funny to read. On the topic of Alt Friendlyness, how about we make the WxP exp/ranks account bound instead of soul bound. Almost everyone i’ve talked to ingame would love this idea because a lot of us play alts. You guys say it is a character progression system (even though the personal story ends at like lvl 20), however personally i would like my account to progess more in a WvW sense.

Gees c’mon many players have known since like launch that certain sites out there have been providing multihack downloads to players who lack any kind of game skill unless they are equipped with the abilityto cheat their way to their own perceived elite status.. god modes and chicken modes have been knocking around in GW2 for ages and now since the bloodlust and season 1 malarkey its become more noticeable.
Of course its lag, of course players will say that.. lag is responsible for so many things in MMO’s apparently.
Lag is not the cause for 4 or 5 players to continually beat on a downed player only for to see it res back up countless times and run/teleport away or in my case suddenly 1 hit me from downed state after being downed 3 times then reses up and does their “I am elite” dance on corpse thing… defend this kitten all you like and call it how you like or instead do some homework and see for yourself just what is being put out there for the cheaters to use, but some already know and instead hide behind the “its lag” veil.
I have personally sent details of many of these sites to ANET because in competitive game areas or esports etc the last thing players want is to have this kind of rubbish spoiling their own fun but ANET simply don’t give a flying kitten about it or have no way of combating it currently.. let’s be honest if there was any real emphasis on WvW they would of fixed many things in it a long time ago and done something about this kind of thing already but like skill lag, queue bugs, door hacks etc, etc it simply doesn’t have a significant enough effect to the TP economy or gem sales so they ignore it.
But until ANET wakes up and does something about it, it will only get worse so its up to the players to keep flooding their inboxes with botting reports or such… ask yourself why ANET still refuses to provide appropriate reporting tools/functions for us to use against the cheats!
Mesmer:
Dear Anet,
I would love to have an out of combat speed boost that doesn’t require me to have a focus in my off hand or have those ridiculously expensive travelers runes . I really want to play WvW with my Mesmer but its painfully slow as it is.
Thank you.
Elementalist - Give them another weapon slot, but disable it during combat. While I absolutely wouldn’t want to give eles combat-swapping, that’s essentially two extra inventory slots, and it means that if I want to fool around with a combination outside my main set every once in a while, I just have to hit [~] out of combat, instead of having to dig through my inventory.
It’s more a quality of life improvement than a re-balancing one, but, man, I’d definitely mix up my play style more often that way.
To be honest, at this point I feel we have enough weapon skins. What we need are more sets of armor skins.
“Not enough to do anything with” – The correct answer.

I now think the Candy Corn rewards are meant to be a long term reward. That’s why a home candy corn node is the meta reward.
It’s been confirmed that Sonder the Seller will continue to trade Candy Cobs for the Mini Prince and Halloween Pail. However, looking at the numbers…
Pail = 15 Cobs = 15,000 Candy Corn
Mini = 20 Cobs = 20,000 Candy Corn
Say you get 10 Candy Corn every day you mine the node. That’s rather a lot, but at least we won’t be under-estimating.
(15,000 cc)/(10cc/day) = 1,500 days
That’s over four years, assuming you mine the node every day. Nearly 5 1/2 years for the Mini. The Candy Corn node should be neat if you’re cooking with it, but won’t make a meaningful dent in the prices for these items even over time.
