Rejoice WVW players! Because it only takes less than 3 days for the season 1 wvw achivements to be completed

1 less achievement hunter every 3 days to help ease up the queue!!!

Got my new title and season 1 key using a ranger in less than 3 days. I’m not even interested in wvw haha! Thank you Crystal Desert players! and the invaders from IOJ and NSP for making it easy for me to get this over and done with.

You aren’t interested in wvw so I’m sure you are one of the players that cares about the achievements instead of the good of your server. Doing some of those achievements at the wrong time can hurt your server so I hope this helps prove to the dev’s that these AP additions will end up hurting the game mode in the long run. Have fun in PvE.

My crystal ball tells me that come the end of the season, when the rewards are dished out, if the items rewarded for higher placed finishing worlds are significantly greater then for those finishing lower down the leagues, there is going to be a massive and quite justified player complaints.

If, as has been stated, finishing the meta achievement is a requirement of receiving the end of season reward(s) then surely those on lower population worlds with less regular wvw players deserve larger, not smaller rewards on account that finishing the meta achievement would have been much more difficult for them.

I am hoping (but given past performance) not confident that this time the Devs have thought this through from a player perspective. If not, hopefully by discussing this issue now before it arises, any ill thought out plans that for example; involved handing out pre-cursors to winning worlds only, can be changed and another bout of mass player discontent avoided.

23 October daily crash bug

Today (date mentioned in thread title) Daily Mists Camp Capturer achievement is displayed twice in the daily achievement panel (which is surely not intended). Once you complete it (capture 3 camps), clicking on the daily achievement panel crashes the game (hard crash, application stops responding and needs to be killed from task manager). Obvious bug is obvious.

This is to all the people kittening and whining about long queue times and those kitten ed achievement whorin’ PvEers taking up valuable spots for more pro, more deserving, more elite hardcore WvWers.

Please take a second to think for a minute about the opportunity that has been presented to the WvW gamemode and community here. Arenanet have provided us with an unprecedented influx of new players. This will rejuvinate WvW on lower tier servers like nothing before. It is now up to YOU, yes, YOU to mentor these players and ‘convert’ them into WvW players. Help them see the beauty of the finest part of the game. Teach them. ‘This is why we dont take supply from towers, these are fire fields and these are the skills you need to use to ’blast’ them.’ Dont berate them in mapchat for grinding camp guards doing JPs etc etc.

Suffer the lag for now. Suffer the huge queues for now. Once everything dies down in a week or two it will all be worth it. I guarantee every server will have a noticably larger WvW playerbase after this league. The key will be which servers that gain the most.

The bags with Tomes of knowledge were so much more rewarding than the chests with blues. All in all for people that don’t wvw this will prolly take a while. If you’re in there 6+ hours a day than you’re probably already done.

You’re assuming people go into wvw actively looking to complete the achievements, which is totally off base. I’m a hardcore wvw player and I can assure you that every single one of these achievements except the keeps and towers is ridiculous. The kills are wayy too low for starters, I’m able to get 450 a night on a good matchup. Jumping puzzles should not be tied at all to this, and unless you sit in one spot tagging yaks its very hard to complete it. The fact of the matter is that they made WvW an achievement hunt like any other LS so far and that is wrong, they’re not promoting wvw game play, they’re just promoting achievement hunting.

@OP, good thread and I hope ANet takes it into account because this is actually killing wvw gamplay by having people focus more on completing the achievements rather than playing the matchup.

Remember that any fortified tower you own on your server’s side in a border has a higher priority than a regular tower and SM when it is not yours or fortified.

Example:

After reinforcing/fortifying your captured towers you and your zerg decide to take a regular enemy tower (usually called paper if it is not reinforced).

When you get there, you put up a few rams or if you got a bunch of people with you, smash at the gate with raw force from your weapons.

When the enemy gate that you are attacking is at 50%, you suddenly get a report from your scout in one of your fortified towers that it is going to be under attack by an incoming enemy zerg.

What do you do?

You move directly to defend your reinforced tower because you can cap a paper tower anytime, while reinforcing towers can take time.

If you decide to ignore the report then you will lose the chicken (your fortified tower) while you get an egg instead (the enemy paper tower).

It takes time to fortify your captured towers because they require supplies, delivered by dolyaks, delivered from captured and protected camps.

Fortified keeps & Fortified Towers > Capturing enemy towers that got lower tier than your own towers.

You basically trade in a chicken for an egg if you don’t prioritize right.

So let’s start with the easy one: Precision.

A massive amount of mesmer condition pressure and sustain is obtained through crits. Your dueling 15 point minor trait causes all of your illusions to bleed on crit. That’s massive. Since illusions take your precision, having high precision is a must for good bleed pressure.

A slightly less direct reason is the interaction with the 5 point minor in dueling, 5 seconds of vigor on crit. Vigor = 100% faster endurance regeneration = twice as many dodges = twice as many dodge clones, which leads to more damage and more damage avoidance.

Next up is toughness.

Toughness actually has a direct benefit too. Your 25 point minor in chaos adds 5% of your toughness to your condition damage. That’s at least 100 more condition damage right there.

Now, both vitality and toughness are defensive stats, but they defend against different things.

  • Power damage will eat right through vitality with no toughness, but conditions take much longer with more health, so vitality is condition defense
  • Conditions don’t care about toughness, but power damage does. You get strong reductions in power damage with more toughness, so toughness is power damage defense.

In the blackwater build, you have strong condition defense already due to your traited torch, and so more condition defense is a lower priority. Additionally, mesmers already have medium base hp, so you’ve got a good amount of hp. When I run the build, I generally have 20k hp, which is fine, and so every bit of toughness you can get does much more for you.

Additionally, toughness indirectly increases the strength of your heals, while vitality decreases it. The same strength heal heals for a lower % of your hp with a lot of vit, making it indirectly weaker.

Lastly, we can talk about power.

This one really is quite obvious for anyone that’s ever played mesmer, but less obvious for a necromancer, which is why I’m thinking your friend is a necro. Mesmer condition skills don’t use power, generally. Your entire build is designed to do high condition damage, and not power. You have a couple skills that scale well on power, but the thing is that power does not matter at all without crit power. Pure power damage sucks, in order to do any appreciable damage, you absolutely have to have crit power.

Therefor, taking carrion gear would be lowering your condition damage because of vit instead of toughness, vastly decreasing your endurance regeneration, vastly decreasing your bleed pressure, making your heals less effective, and reducing your power damage defense, while providing you with a tiny bit of power.

Toughness scales the effectiveness of your hitpoints from direct damage while vitality does not. Toughness also increases condition damage when you trait 25 in Chaos (moreso with Undead Runes). For mesmer condi builds that take the Sharper Images trait you want high Precision to trigger more bleeds from your illusions. It also helps you maintain vigor when traited.

Its Been a Year
Its been about a year now since ANet used a work-a-round to patch up Temporal Curtian’s swiftness buff. Its been about a year of the most annoying experience repeated over and over as players try to help other players. In the course of that year, TC has had two major debuffs. The most recent of these has severely affected its use as a movement ability when traveling solo in PvE. Now you enter combat if a mob follows you through it, negating any benefit of placing it down. Players must now either cherry pick locations to drop this skill, or avoid using it entirely as a means of traveling. TC is broken, and its brokenness is effecting mesmers and non-mesmers alike. I would really like to know when on the time-table we can expect the skill to be working properly.

For Those Who Don’t Know
Temporal Curtain is a mesmer’s focus 4. You probably all use it to get around because it drops a line effect that grants swiftness to allies that pass through it. Some of you may not have noticed that the swiftness buff you get from TC does not stack with other swiftness buffs. If you have 1 sec of TC swiftness left, and a warrior tries to give you a fresh one from their horn, you’re out of luck. The same works in reverse, if you have any other swiftness on and you drop TC, you won’t get more swiftness, or a replacement with a longer duration. Why? Because it originally did stack in duration and people were passing back and forth through it to get never-ending swiftness. In response, ANet fixed it, though not really.

Impact
Every mesmer should now know that, if you are in a zerg, and you want to be helpful, then do not place down a temporal curtain. For every fool you trick into going through that line effect, you cause one more player to get un-stackable swiftness which causes the tail of the zerg to get ever longer and longer. If you really want to be helpful, ask a warrior if you can get a banner and spam 3 instead. I’ve tried recently to travel on maps with my wife, who plays a guardian (the other slow moving class) and we try to pass swiftness off to each other. It gets annoying though since our buffs don’t stack and often times I’ll get a buff that she won’t or we will accidentally waste one of our abilities with no effect.

What I Would Like to See
Ideally, each instance of TC should stack swiftness on a character once so that multiple TC effects grant longer and longer durations of swiftness. Ideally, TC swiftness should stack with other sources of swiftness so that it isn’t detrimental to a zerg when someone tries to help by placing TC. I think you can make this happen ANet. I just want to know if you are even working on it.

The best advise I can give u especially for commanding pugs is to keep moving. Try to always be going to a place to cap, and avoid enemy zergs unless you are bigger than them. Try to keep your commands simple and direct, pugs are often turned off by complicated commands.

Does it really count as a dare if it’s physically impossible?

For anyone wondering why the number is so large, it’s 2 to the power of 32 minus one, which basically means it’s the highest value able to be stored in a 32-bit number. No one is actually expected to reach that ceiling.

(2^32 = 4,294,967,296
but you have to subtract one, since you have to count zero as a number. Isn’t binary fun!)

How hard would it have been to show the bow a little love…just once? How about it drops little baby spiders when wielded?? or even cooler make it shoot webs when fired…
So thats my beef… just once… show us rangers an act of kindness and give us something cool too …

Setting aside the question of bow ranger versus greatsword ranger, I think it’s worth noting that at least there is a new longbow, which is more love than axes, torches, or warhorns got. It would be nice if the longbow had some more special effects, but if you’re going to dramatically frame it as “could we just once get a little love?” I think a little perspective is in order.

I’m unclear on how the reward works. Is it that only the top ten players get any reward? If so, what is your incentive to die on purpose? It just ensures you don’t get any rewards.

There isn’t an incentive, that’s why he doesn’t comply. The farmers are trying to farm him but are unwilling to put in the effort to actually best him in the game. Therefore, they “order” him to give in.

Of course there’s an incentive. Now you’re just lying.

If he wins he gets 10, but with people sacrificing themselves it’s obvious the survivor team isn’t organised meaning surviving the full time is near impossible.

Essentially he can choose to receive 3 bags every 3 minutes or every 13 minutes. The people sacrificing themselves are understandably annoyed because even if he does win he did so on the backs of people who gave up their chance at 10 bags in order to receive 3 bags faster and one guy is doubling the ammount of time to get those 3 bags for no reason (if he loses) or at the expense of the people who likely could have survived to the end and received 5 bags (had they known there would be a holdout).

Should they be ‘abusing’ the guy? God no. He’s just playing the game. Are they ‘abusing’ him? Likely not. People who know they’re being sticklers tend to interpret “Hey, I want you to die faster” as ‘abuse’. They’re sensitive beings who believe they’re master’s of the universe for playing games ‘as intended’.

Then again there is a proportion of the playerbase who would very easily insult the guy’s mother, so who really knows what’s happening. Likely something in-between.

But to pretend there isn’t an incentive to die right away is completely disingenuous. The farmers want him to join them and reap the equal rewards, not ‘farm him’. He can choose not to comply but unless he’s winning the game he’s disadvantaging everyone and could just as easily join a game where everyone is there to “have fun” instead of taking a moral stand against people who don’t care.

Wow, consider yourself lucky. I farmed that kitten lab all weekend and never saw a single one of those mats drop. my hand is still cramped from all of the button spamming, hours and hours… I’ve managed to put together a couple cobs but that’s it. I am seriously thinking that i am going to lose my mind, or end up with repetitive motion damage long before i am able to acquire the mats for this recipe!

Please don’t validate a.net’s idea that all we want to do is farm little stupid things all day and night.

This acheivement needs to be changed, for one reason: if you survive as a villager until late in the round and then die, YOU LOSE ALL THE EFFORT YOU JUST MADE. You won’t get credit for the round as a courtier unless you get lucky enough to find that last remaining villager or two to get credited with participation. It absolutely sucks. The only way to make sure you get credit for the round is to switch sides early to middle of the round after getting some points as a villager, so you have plenty of time to hunt as a courtier and get credit. Terrible, TERRIBLE game design.
