I’m confused as to what the difference is. Someone explain please?

You’re supposed to farm after you reached level 80… for a few weeks.

^that was actually the truth.
Okay, we all know that ascended armor is coming. The real question is how will it be implemented. Since the Devs lately have been coming on here and reading posts I suggest we start suggesting ways they could implement it that are better than the way they implemented Ascended weapons.
I’ll start with what I think happened that was “wrong” about ascended weapons. Personally I think the worst thing with ascended weapons were the increased stats on them over “regular” exotics. Had ascended weapons been simply exotic stats but with an added infusion slot (to add infusions for fractals or slightly better stats) everyone would have received them much better. They ould have even increased the stats on legendaries and no one would have cared! After-all, they are legendaries!
So, my solution to ascended armor is thus: Ascended armor should have the exact same stats as Exotic with two exceptions: #1, they should have an infusion slot for people to add infusions to aid in higher and higher fractals or to put a slight enhancement on it (+5 to a single stat is not game-breaking). #2, To make ascended armor worth the grind (you know it will be one) allow them to have “selectable” stats like legendary weapons do. This would give people a reason to grind for the armor but not grant much of an advantage over people that did not grind. This also gives them a purpose within the game. Right now most of my characters carry two sets of armor, one for PVE and one for WvWvW and PvP. I used to carry three sets (one with MF).
By giving selectable stats to ascended armor people could customize their loadout for each dungeon that they enter (or if they want to change builds) and gives people something to work for after they finally get their exotic armor….but yet, since the stats are the same as exotic, it doesn’t give them an advantage over the people who have only exotic. It would justify the grind, since it would replace multiple sets of carried armor with a single set…and go nicely with the people who already have their legendary but not be game-breaking in WvW or PvP.
Heck, even without the infusion slot, selectable stats on ascended armor would make people want to do the grind to get it and it makes it ALT-friendly! You can grind towards a set for each of your characters.
Post your ideas. How could ANET implement ascended armor with minimal impact to the community where it wouldn’t create the outrage that you see from ascended weapons?
It is idiotic how rare candy corn nodes are this year given how many we need for the items. lets just work this out, 20 cobs for the bloody prince. 20,000 candycorn pieces! That’s 80 STACKS of the frikking things. Who has time to farm that much candy corn? You’d need at least 2-3 STACKS of it per day, and that’s assuming this event lasts a full month!

This year: OMG the labyrinth is so lame and boring!
Nothing has changed aside from the addition of a few bosses and mob types. Why the shift?

Hey guys, looks like the update notes were incorrect. These recipes do not require 100 of the mega materials, they require 10 (that’s 10,000 not 100,000 fangs/skulls/nougat). Sorry for the confusion! We are getting the update notes fixed!
Are you fixing them in game as well?
Because whether the updates notes say 10 or 100, the items in game say 100. So changing the update notes won’t matter unless you fix them in game as well.
And if this was a mistake, then why wasn’t it fixed awhile ago when this was first mentioned in all the threads complaining about it? Why wait until now to admit this was incorrect instead of yesterday when this issue was brought up?

RNG chest items are not fun…
Absurdly grindy craftable items aren’t really fun either…
I mean seriously, this game is becoming a grindy, time-gated mess. These events become more and more tiresome to me. Why are you so afraid of rewarding a wide range of players? Why aren’t there more ways to get these skins? Why do you feel the need to make them super rare and exclusive?
Look, I get it, I get having some exclusive and really hard to obtain items, but there seem to be no balance for people who actually want to have fun playing this game and not spend ridiculous amounts of time to feel rewarded participating in this event.
For instance, the Clocktower, arguably one of the hardest JPs in the game, while not loved by every one, it should be a one of a few different ways of being rewarded with a Halloween weapon skin of choice (at least the first time around). Finishing the meta achievements? Skin. Finishing the storyline? Skin. Spread these rewards out and stop being so stingy with them, it’s not fun, it’s stressful.
What would be bad about making a wider array of skins that are fairly attainable? Something we can constantly be working towards during the event. Then the minis and the back piece skins can be the super rare and exclusive items. If that’s not enough, you could even make new types of subtle reward of the RNG and grindy kind.
How about a one time use Halloween weapon effect that you can apply to items? Like the weapon effect on the Chiroptophobia that you can apply to any weapon. Or some super exclusive foot drops that you can apply to any boots.
This spreads the love out a lot more, it makes desirable and fun skins more attainable, thus making the event feel unique and reward, while keeping rare and exclusive, but more subtle rewards there too.
I just don’t get how a game with so much potential, could end up in such a grindfest. Holiday’s are supposed to be fun, yet they suck out all the fun parts. There’s so many and easy ways to make money off the gemstore by just adding rehashed items people want, yet they add crap like fireworks or new boosters (who the heck buys this crap?).
If only there was one sane person left at arenanet that could make all the right decisions for them, cause for some reason they always pick the exact opposite of what people want.
“You want easy to access holiday items? lol think again”
“Oh, we read your feedback, the holiday items costs too much. You know what? We’ll just make them 50 times more expensive, you’re welcome.”
I agree, according to the /age I have played 3.5 hours a day over the past year. Even at that rate there is no way I can keep up with this ridiculous grind. Nor do I want to.
And yes, I want easy holiday items. I want to have FUN. Grinding candy corn is not fun. I want to enjoy my time with the game and not just waste another hour of my life doing something stupid.
Edit: Also to me, the labyrinth seems like another champion farm with a lower payout.

I’ve spent a lot of time in many online community games. Over the years I’ve been drawn to the forums to present my own cases or see what people have to say about things. I know a thing or two about complaint threads and what a pain it is to see people always B——ing about things. However I also feel that these threads need to be made, good or bad, because it CAN bring about good change.
With that in mind: this is…. a complaint thread…
Since this Halloween event started, I’ve heard soooooo many complaints about the content we’ve been presented with this year. Let me list a few:
No historical achievements available
No previous year rewards available
No previous year gemstore content available
Ridiculous requirements for Hween weapon crafting
More RNG-reward based weapons.
Far fewer candy corn nodes (cheap explanation as well)
No new clocktower rewards/achievements
There are others, but these are some of the most common i’ve heard.
I personally managed to complete all of last year’s content and got plenty of rewards. However I do feel that the people who missed that content should at least have the option of getting it. The people at anet handled this quite well with the Super Adventure Box content, leaving achievements open and giving us the option to go for them once again. This means that they KNOW people would want that option. If they understood that for the adventure box, I guarantee you that they they knew that players would want the same for the Halloween event.
I remember the frustration I felt when playing runescape many years ago that you couldnt get the previous years rewards. It’s a flawed system that alienates new players and frustrates everyone.
I’m aware that work went into making this year’s Halloween a NEW and fun experience. However the more I read on these forums and hear from other players in-game, the more this event feels like a huge moneygrab/timesink by the people at anet, and a poor one at that. Weapon skins require exorbitant amounts of materials, (nearly unobtainable without vast amounts of money) and candycorn will only be available after Hween from a single rechargeable node in your home. Heck at the very least you could stock some of last years items on the gemstore; people might even PAY for that sort of thing. It might be a transparent attempt to get yet more money but at least new players could have a shot at getting last year’s rewards.
My whole point here is: People are angry, its easy to predict that they would be angry, and these things should be taken into consideration by anet while there’s still time to do something about it.
Some of you will no doubt mention that “not everyone can be pleased” and this is absolutely true. However the level of “pleasing” here seems especially below average. This is OBVIOUS stuff that any fool could predict, and more should be done to make this right for anet’s loyal playerbase.
I guess that’s it: obvious complaint thread is obvious. If youre gonna give me the business for complaining too much then I can understand that : ) However after youre done, put yourself in the place of the people who are in the wrong of this situation and offer some constructive feedback…. and dont give me any of that “if they missed it, too bad for them because I didnt” kitten-stuff… thats KITTEN and you know it. (Yes, I used kitten purposely in this thread, I’m starting to get used to it replacing all of my bad language)
Good Luck People, Happy Halloween
While I do agree that the amounts needed are too high, I think it’s fairly obvious that ANet is counting on players buying the mats from other players. Maybe they have data that suggests that there WILL be enough fangs/skulls/nougat floating around by the end of the event for a handful of super-dedicated players to get it, or maybe their intent is to drive more traffic through the TP to soak up more gold from the economy.
That isn’t to say I agree with the numbers, of course. I think that prices for the new skins (and the Pail) could be slashed by 10 (or 100!) to make it less grindy for the average player.
I feel like this patch was a giant middle finger to the player base.
Make obtaining these skins reasonable!
…and the thing that kills me is you didnt even put the old Halloween BLC skins up on the weapon skin vendor while the new ones are day one. The Ghastly Shield is 1000g+
(edited by Dromar.1027)
Currently, Sonders the Seller will be available to upgrade your materials until Nov 12th and then the items are set to be removed once Halloween ends.
Why? Are you seriously going to tell us with a straight face you expect people to collect 100,000 of these in a month? The recipe was increased 1000 fold with respect to these mats. I am absolutely blown away. ONE THOUSAND FOLD. I don’t even know how to express how ridiculous this is without my post being half kittens. Whatever.
Over the last year we’ve heard a lot of talk about how the new “Living World” was being designed in a way that would allow ANet to get more proficient at building new content. By using preexisting content, they could build more, in less time.
This Halloween, so far, seemed sorely lacking in ambition.
Sure, the new story idea isn’t too bad, and I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes, but the rest is the same content, with most of the same issues (and some new ones).
Take the Clock Tower for example. One of the most loved JPs in the entire game is back, and yes…I fully admit the decision to make other players “mists” is a welcome one for us smaller characters. However the same issues are there.
We’re still waiting for the reset every time, we still have a PvP point system that simply makes no sense to have. As well, we can’t even get the achievement for completing it, because ANet didn’t bother bringing back most of them.
Last year my girlfriend and I were on a road trip from Vancouver to Mesa. I remember we were trying desperately to get to a McDonalds to use the free WiFi so we could see the start of the Halloween festivities. It was the first major update to the game and we were really excited to see what was in store.
I remember the feeling of seeing Lions Arch all decorated, and the new events, and the cool new dungeon. This year, all those things are back, but they feel old. I’ve spent time running after doors, I’ve seen the plastic spiders, I’ve run the “labyrinth” ad nauseam, I’ve attempted the Clock Tower….what now?
Anyway, this got longer than expected. I just feel that if ANet is going to continue to plead with us to have patience, then I would expect that it would result in something fantastic.
Here are a few ideas I think would have been much more fun this year.
- Haunted House
- Actual Trick or Treating (dress up and go door to door in cities, towns, etc)
- Clock Tower 2.0 with a more (Arkham Asylum: Scarecrow feel)
- Graveyard events
- Costume Contests
- Zombie Walk (PvP style games using zombies)
- A darker, more scary Lions Arch
- Pumpkin weight guessing (like Moa Race)
- Scavenger hunt 2.0
- Bone Weapons / Armour
Anet never, ever think their holiday recipe numbers through. Or their ticket prices.
Economic efficiency aside, I agree with the OP’s main point that the event’s preview made it seem like the 20-slot candy bag would be easier or cheaper to obtain than other types of 20-slot bags. Obtaining 15,000 pieces is hardly easy: the least tedious method would be purchasing them on the TP and that requires posting at least 60 buy orders of 250 pieces each. While that might be simple enough in theory, I find it hard to argue that it would be fun. (I got bored and gave up after posting orders for 3,000 pieces.)
About the price of candy corn: last year, you could buy as much as you wanted for 2 copper until the second week of December. I don’t expect that to change much this year, although there are some new uses for the candy (including the 20-slot bag). Source: spidy.
About the total cost: if you pay 1c for each piece, that’s 15,000 copper, i.e.150 silver, i.e. 1.5g (not 15g as stated above). The Candy Corn 20-slot bag will be cheaper than the 20-slot superior rune (never mind the 20-slot bag) as long as the price of candy is a bit below 7c/piece. I do expect candy corn to reach (and stay at) that price range some time toward the beginning of November, if not before.
To be fair, they can’t make it TOO cheap or it’d crash the market for 20 slot bags. (Although it’s worth noting that basically everybody used Fractal Relics to get their 20 slot bags anyway…) Still, I’d rather that the 20 slot bags were made easier to get (say, 1000 – 5000 candy corn, which is a hefty amount, but still doable), and then restricted to one per character (if 5000) or account (1000).
I don’t understand your post at all. The event is here for 4 weeks, so where is the harm in having 20 slot bags be around or lower than 10g? That won’t crash the market at all. People will be able to get a 20 slot bag, the game won’t get mass amounts of hate like its doing, and players might actually talk positive about the game a little. Right now its just showing the ignorance of Anet.
ANet still not playing their own game? Incoming random number and call it a challenge……now!
I have enough space on my main but that last bag slot is only a 15’er so 5 extra slots would be nice. 15 thousand corn though lol, hold on, let me readjust my life so I can dedicate it to GW2’s fun holiday.
(edited by Paul.4081)
kitten it. I just crafted my own 20 slot bags. Cheaper than this candy corn stuff.
Heck yeah, and who cares if it is a halloween pail or a box or a bag, it’s the space that matters. No one can even see what you have for a bag/storage.
Overall. GW2’s second halloween is looking like being far less enjoyable than the first. Not just the the insultingly overpriced items, but there’s less to do. And compared to year 1 the weapon skins suck. At least you can buy the things for tokens now rather than hope for the vanishingly slim chance of the thing actually dropping. But it’s a sad thing that the only item I wanted to buy this halloween was the costumed mini pets.
“Descent into Madness: Fixed the Chaos Storm created by this skill to match the actual Chaos Storm skill functionality.”
For people who didnt do anything last year, we got some new stuff but nothing like they had last year. This year seems to be more grindy and stale. From the removal of the main event in labyrinth to the book or title. Its just so sad. I am really sad that this happened and unfortunately I know that nothing is going to be done about peoples frustrations….

People are unhappy because they screwed up and made what was supposed to be a celebration into a grind from hell. They need to take all this criticism to heart and deal with the underlying issues. You’re doing them no favors here with your soft touch. What this game needs right now is tough love and plenty of it.
The skins are really bad compared to last year, not to mention much less of them.
How is less, more fun?
They removed content like the MOBA-sPvP map, lack of CC nodes around the world (which is a joke considering the high price of cobs), Titles, and actual hard content (dumbed down clock tower that you can no longer play with friends), removed the rare drop skins from the bosses in the labrynthe, etc.
The achievement grind last year wasn’t too bad, but at least it had some notable ones like completing the clock tower.

How about you just skip Christmas? Since it seems you get no appreciation for introducing new stuff for us players to do, it seems only fair we get a time out for demanding everything be handed to us on a silver platter.
And no, I’m not joking, I honestly hope ANet just skips the Christmas celebration. Half of all the players are doing nothing but whining about what ISN’T available, rather then enjoying what IS available.
Thank you ANet, I for one am enjoying the content that was put out, eagerly await more, and love that the JP is back, I’ll beat you this year Clocktower!!
I’m expecting a Bloody Prince costume to be released next week.
Remember the Gem Store is on a weekly release schedule. They’ve been releasing the better content one week after the patch pretty regularly.
It would be just short of insanity not to release a costume at all. This is after all the anniversary of Costume Brawl being added to the game.
(For that reason alone I half expected them to make a big deal in the gemstore about costumes and release a bunch.)
I seriously want Anet to put them back on the shelf. If anything it’d only mean more money for them, so I fail to understand what the problem is.
NC Soft are you there? I would like to give you some money now, for the costumes from last year.
