I think the most important takeaway from this is Devon said it would be a priority and it actually happened.

While I’m sure some of the other things he’s said are a priority (re-evaluating wXP Rewards for example) might be more complicated and take longer – it still bodes well to know that it just might happen, and sooner than 8 months from now.

I do my monthly events in Queensdale.
The area between Phinney Waypoint and Vayle Waypoint has bout 8 events, 2 of them spawn every 10 minutes, it’s close to the shadow behemoth and whenever there is no event going on you can kill veteran trees for your monthly veteran killer.

I’m loving the direction the living story is going in terms of storytelling. If they had done more in-game cinematic scenes like they have with the Living Story in our Personal Story, I’d have enjoyed it more. The side-by-side dialog scenes can be used on occasion, but prefer this new style.

On a side note, I loved how it took your place in the story into account with the war counsel letting me through on characters that were commander of the Pact. The new characters and event style missions give me a lot of hope for the future of GW2 in terms of storytelling compared to how much I loved GW1.

Guild wars 2 ruined all other mmo's

Let me start by stating, I am by no means bashing GW2, haha, faaaaaaar from it! In fact, GW2 has given me almost everything i look for in MMO’s. Fun leveling, awesome armor sets, skinning your armor, voice acting, beautiful graphics, no more repetitive quests, epic WvWvW, crafting exp, and the nostalgic feeling of exploring.

But what my title states, is that i can no longer play any MMO that follows the gruesome quest log, collecting quests, and so on! I’ve been raised to believe all of that is standard and the only way to enjoy MMO’s. But Guild Wars has changed my outlook on online gaming. I know some of you may not fully agree with what i am going say, but Guild Wars 2 has revolutionized MMO gaming, for me at least.

Like today, i was bored, and decided to revisit Aion seeing as it went f2p. Not even 30 seconds in, i gave up because i could not stand reading through the quest logs, knowing i had to kill 6 wolves, and find like 10 chicken eggs. >.<

anyone else experiencing this as well? Anyone else try Visiting/ revisting other MMO’s and just couldn’t stand it?

Periscopes ranged knock back spam = NOT FUN

Spamming knockback, silly respawn rates. This is not a good idea, even on paper. The only thing good about these things will be when the Living Story progresses and they are permanently removed from the game.

Exactly. Reminds me of how everyone loved the introduction of Karka island. Nothing to do, difficult enemies…

Oh, wait. That’s why no one goes there unless they’re explicitly looking for a challenge.

And, hence, with the end of Frost and Flame, ArenaNet can hopefully solve both of these issues. (Removal of periscopes and proper placement of NPCs/quests in Southsun Cove.)

I was under the impression that the chests would be in the world for the event as they were with Windersday. What a huge disappointment. I have no desire whatsoever to play a platform game; that’s why I bought an MMO. I was, however, hoping to get the staff skin for my guardian. Oh well, another disappointment. I’m sure it won’t be the last.

Decrease lag

in WvW

Posted by: Bananasmile.4126

Bananasmile.4126

7 months I’ve been playing the game, I never really experienced “unplayable” lag until recently. In WvW, Even if there weren’t fights in my field of vision, players would just walk around and “teleport” and my FPS was around 65-70, and when there are mid-sized skirmishes between 10-20 players on-screen my FPS goes down to around 50ish, and big zergs ball battles FPS goes down to 25-30, my FPS never went below 20 ever. System is fine. Given this performance, lag is insane, people are teleporting everywhere…my skills aren’t executing…when I hit something I’m not even sure if I’m damaging it because it just dies with just a few numbers popping out of its head. What’s worse is even if there are no fights at all happening on-screen with me having 60+ FPS, these things still happen, people running and teleport, skills not executing even simple auto-attacks takes like 2-3 seconds to occur, it’s disheartening. First thing I did was to call my ISP, just verified that there’s no maintenance or technical issue going on, my connection is fine as it was 7 months ago. In short, I’ve been playing the game for 7 months with the same system (a decent one as I’m also using it to play other more demanding PC games with no problems) and same ISP never had this problem until recently. So now I know that the cause is not coming from my side. Can anyone explain in more understandable terms how this LAG is being caused from their servers? I’m not IT savvy especially on servers, just the process of elimination led me to believe that the problem is not coming from my side. How will this LAG be fixed if at all? This is a very crucial point for me if I will continue playing the game, I like the game very much, but it’s just frustrating and stressing dealing with this.

EDIT: I’m from South East Asia, I know this is a big factor in latency, but like I said, been playing for 7 months with minimal issues with lag, and I also asked my ISP if there were any technical issues that may cause latency problem from SEA to NA,Texas to cause a negative effect, they said none from their side, in fact, they informed me that they recently boosted their speed (which is somewhat true as I use Skype a lot and felt the increase in quality there), so they were very emphatic that it wasn’t on their side. If it was on their side, then I should have had this issue from the beginning. That’s not the case, something happened from ANET’s side midway that started causing this. Thanks.

I should clarify here again that the culling fix will have minimal impact on skill lag. Skill lag happens because the server too busy to process everything that’s happening (e.g. it’s at 100% CPU). The removal of culling addresses issues experienced by the client but those changes don’t really impact the skill lag situation. They are fundamentally different problems that will need different solutions.

Skill lag is a much more crippling issue than culling.

Especially since you guys continue to promote the zerg mentality with every change you make in the game. Latest news to support zerging: All kills/captures/etc. give the same amount of World XP regardless of how many people were involved.

The correct way to give out World XP would be some kind of curve which benefits smaller groups and punishes people for zerging in 50+ blobs. Stonemist and Keep takes can continue to work on the old principle, then you do not punish people for using large numbers to take such objectives.

Its been a long time since I’ve seen an MMO patch make a game so much worse in one patch.

An illustrative example – both from yesterday.

Example one – midday prepatch

Side A attempt to take a keep – they have around 60 people. 5 golems are assembled and a fast strike attempted. Gate1 goes down quick – by time gate two is reached there a dozen or so people on siege making life difficult. With losses (all golems) gate 2 goes down. by now 20 or so people are manning siege and side A is losing people. Siege takes out enough people to make attempt non viable and its eventually beaten back. All in all this takes about 15 minutes and side A has a 2:1 numerical advantage but side Bs defense wins.

Example 2 – midnight last night

Side A has a 100+ blob. It rushes the keep – door 1 goes down in seconds even without siege on it. It arrives at door 2 where 30-40 defenders have arrived to try and delay and hold them back. Siege is manned. Door 2 goes down in < minute (nom golems just rams). 100+ people swamp lord and he drops in seconds. Siege has minimal effect. Lag delay is crippling. Melee blob mash 1 button and win.

Defence is no longer an option. Offence is far stronger and balance is way out of line. it should take time to siege a defensive structure, but no now its line up a massive melee blob and mash 1 button.

Defensive structures need to be defensible.

Personally I’ve gone from loving wvwvw and playing for hours to logging off and finding another game. Might log back in in a few weeks to see if its improved but for now its dreadful.

Enemies made GW1 exciting. GW2 however...

Within the GW model, I [as many others have] enjoyed the tactical nature of squad-based synergies and counter-play. I applaud the developers of GW for having a system that places ‘weaker’ builds on foes in appropriate areas and ‘stronger’ builds on foes in appropriate areas without resorting to ‘buckets of HP’ and other duller replacements. I give Slavers’ Exile as an example. Many of the foes in Slavers’ Exile had builds that encouraged their foes [we, the players] to possess a higher skill level than foes in other areas. Fortunately, Slavers’ Exile was also labelled appropriately [Elite]. By diversifying the builds we faced, and giving foes builds [more] worth having, we received difficulty increases without needless tediousness presently seen. Effectively built and run squads could still move out with purpose in any given area, a talent lost in 250 years with up/down scaling and buckets of HP.

Skill[s] over Stats. Perhaps a philosophy lost in the mists.

Yep. Slaver’s Exiles was an awesomely hard dungeon to beat for a lot of people. You really had to think to beat it. Of course that was introduced two years after release and not there at this point in Guild Wars 1’s development. What you had was the Underworld and the Fissure of Woe, neither of which has the complexity or synergy of Slaver’s.

As time goes on, I believe you’ll see more challenges in harder dungeons, maybe even harder dungeon modes for people who want that challenge.

The real question is what percentage of people want it. Because if it’s not a big enough percentage, then Anet would have to spend time programming something that only a small percentage of the player base would ever see or make use of.

Before the statue’s destruction during the Mad King event, the fish fountain around it used to make these ‘ploppy’ sounds as the water bounced around, and occasionally being spewed upwards all around. Now the statue and fountain is finally rebuilt but it’s completely silent. I assume this was an oversight and if it’s brought to the devs’ attention, they’ll add it back. :]

Contact list suggestions

Couldn’t find anything about this when I searched.. In GW1 if you hovered your mouse over a characters name in guild (Maybe friend list too but I didn’t have many on there) it would show in the tooltip: “Also known as <Alt character name>”. Was wondering if we could get that in GW2? Would just make identifying the many people I’ve added that much easier lol.

Alternatively a good idea would be to give us the ability to create our own groups within the contact list, so we can sort our contacts how we like in different sections rather than having a biiiig long list of online or offline people.

Fastest movement profession

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Blueshield.6291

Blueshield.6291

I’ve seen debates about which profession is the overall fastest in sustained movement on other forums (Search doesn’t show anything here, oddly enough). I’m interested in sustained, non-combat movement for map completion. (I’m rolling an alt to go for map completion for various reasons I’ve found with my norn main such as jumping puzzles lol)

For sustained non-combat movement I’d have to say thief. I say that in spite of having used a 100% swiftness uptime ele for several months.

What the thief has going for it are:
Signet of Shadows: 25% passive speed boost (which is really quite comparable to swiftness). Enough said.
Infiltrator’s Arrow on the shortbow: depending on initiative-related traits, this can be used twice or thrice in immediate succession. In addition to being the teleportation skill with the lowest “cooldown” (measured in the amount of time to recover the initiative used – true even while untraited), is astoundingly useful for vertical movement (you can scale up staircases with it by firing at the floor above you – awesome for Cliffside Fractal).
Stealth: the utility of stealth should be immediately apparent. Combat speed is one of the biggest hassles in open-world movement, and stealth is the only surefire way to avoid it. Additionally, stealth can be an enormous time-saver for vistas, skill points, and POIs, especially in zones like Orr (without having counted specifically, I’d estimate off the cuff that about 1/3 of all skill points in Orr are places of power with a high-tier mob guard).
Dodging: on the off chance that stealth somehow fails you, thieves have access to a wide range of traits which enhance dodging (including a trait that refunds endurance after a dodge – effectively giving you 4 dodges instead of 2). Definitely not necessary to overall mobility, but the option is there.

Having played an elementalist, a quick outline of the cons:
Active rather than passive: To maintain 100% swiftness uptime, you will at minimum need to be constantly swapping attunements. This is easy, but tedious compared to a signet.
Traits required: While traits enhance a thief’s mobility, they are definitely not required. Elementalists require certain traits to maintain 100% swiftness uptime. They’re easy traits to pick up, but they’re necessary.
Certain traits must be avoided: You can’t put 15 trait points into Air Magic and reliably maintain mobility. The reason for this is that the Master-level Minor Trait (Electric Discharge – hits foes with a bolt of lightning when attuning to air) will often pull you into combat against enemies you wouldn’t have otherwise aggroed. It’s definitely doable to avoid this trait, but you’ll be excluding the lion’s share of the Air line.

Because the way other MMOs are structured sucks. Because in most MMOs when you see someone in the area you’re playing, you’re immediately thinking, great, they’re going to tag my mob, or steal my kill, and then I’ll have to wait for the boss to respawn. Or they’re going to steal my node.

Guild Wars 2 solved that problem. I never look around and think, man there’s another guy, I hope he goes away. And you know, that’s not a bad thing for an MMO.

Why doesn’t Kasparov play with 7 queens?
Why doesn’t Usain Bolt get a Segway?
Why doesn’t Tom Boonen get a motorcycle?
Why doesn’t Michael Jordan get a larger basket?
Why doesn’t Real Madrid have 20 people on the field?
Why doesn’t Idra start at Lair tech?
Why doesn’t SK Gaming start with AWP?

These are all people and teams who spent the most time of everyone in their respective games. They all play by the same rules as me.

Press dodge in the correct moment – game does not think you dodged, you do not get damaged, because you were out of the way, but according to the game you did it too soon, no evade or whatever is that message.

As for the selfcentered drones insulting everybody who do not like this daily – you are the reason people leave games, your attitude is the most annoying and disgusting.
