Not very harmful 3 vs 30 – get JDGE on even numbers or 3v5 and chances are good you’re going down. I’d take one of them over ten of you any day.

Dunno what the hell has happened to AG, but all I see is D/P thieves and GS/Sword+X warriors with occasional PU mesmer.
I know AG has lots of thieves, but I recall they gave good fights in the past. Now they just throw one backstab and run.

It’s not a single server thing, everyone and their mothers are abusing the meta fashion now. Every mesmer is a PU mesmer, every necro is a condinecro, every engi is condinade spammer, every ranger is a spirit ranger, every warrior healingsignet-hambow, every thief condistealth. There’s no variety, only watching a youtube vid and copypasting the actual OP trend, waiting for the next nerf and the next new OP meta. Add to that a total no respect for duelers (i’m not a dueler, but i respect fair fights) and a kittenton of runaways inside spawns/camps/towers searching for pve help. I don’t remember the last week i had good fun roaming tbh, lately imo it’s absolutely boring.

You had the lead but not quite the motivation, our philosophies are different so I think it’s no big deal if you want to play for fights or points; depending on the matchup.

If setting up your alarm clock at 4 AM for GW2 is ‘motivation’ then I’m glad it’s something I’m ‘lacking.’ Not sure what to think of people who get up at such hours just to ‘win’ at WvW, but to each his own I guess. Personally I don’t care about the score, however it does amaze me what great lenghts PPT players go to just so they can score some additional points.

The matchup was fun anyway, it was a good week. Had plenty of nice fights, thanks for that:)

Yeah that was me you spiked. Trying out a new build and its a little more squishy than intended. On the flip side, the commander told everyone to ignore you, including me, but by the time I turned around you had popped every cooldown in the book and I was dead. It was nice watching 5 or so people take another minute to kill you. I don’t feel too bad about it.

Don’t go to an EU match up. They’re polite and stuff.

I took a break after… thought I’d get Repetitive Strain Injury, so I don’t know who capped it in the end but I’ll look forward to the next SM 3-way!

Idk about the siege on bodies, I THINK that JDGE started that when we met FSP and started “ramming”(putting ram buildsite on the corpse) a guild called [Lion] that we thought were pricks. It got pretty widely known and we got donated like 500 ram bps, alot of them from AG and FSP aswell haha. After that it has grown I think.

I was saddened to read that Anet wants to remove these threads. I do not post on them often, but I do read them every week, and they keep me pretty entertained. While I’m ultimately not interested in bashing any devs or moderators, I would like to say that the post that was made to communicate this change did have some dialogue in it that was not a good show of customer service (most of the middle paragraphs, really).

That being said, here are some of my thoughts on why Anet shouldn’t be so hasty to pull the plug:

1) As has been said, this will bring a terrible disconnect between the people who play the content and the people who are creating it. This does not make for a good working relationship between the customer and the business.

2) In my experience (I’m on HoD) the threads have been strangely self-monitoring, for the most part. It may not seem like it, but even when things get heated or off topic, I really don’t feel that any real offense is taken for most things.

3) The match up threads function as a policing tool for WvW in game as well. I know that in the past, if one of my guild members ended up on the other side of a gate we were attacking while it was still up (when that was still a bug) they would immediately hop back out because we had no desire to be called out for even the possibility of exploiting on the forums.

4) On the subject of off topic-ness in the threads: these threads are a way for servers to socialize with each other while they are matched up together for the week. Sometimes you just want to make a joke, or make a shout out to another player on another server. As long as you aren’t posting pics of what you ate for lunch, I don’t feel it necessary to judge these posts too harshly.

I will stand fully behind Anet should they choose to eliminate specific posts that are threatening, racist, etc., but I don’t think the answer is to delete the forum. If a fight breaks out at a bar, the cops don’t burn down the whole establishment- they arrest the individuals involved. That’s just my two cents.

This may go unanswered, but I really am curious about what the Anet team felt the match-up threads should look like and what they would contain.

Two things:

1. Remember the “you have been warned” mod post? This feels the same. Anet generally has a pretty bad attitude towards its customers.

2. Deletion of the forum fits with Anets MO. Remember how they fixed the Twilight Arbor F/U path?

The problem is that it wasn’t a bit of smack talk and a few trolls. It was almost ENTIRELY smack talk and trolling. Constructive and friendly posts were/are few and far between. I’d bet the vast majority of bannings across these forums came directly out of those threads.

you are missing the point, the WvW matchup threads give you context to the story of the match, they give interaction and context to the match. WvW is a week long match up with hundreds of stories, drama etc. When you play you only get a tiny peice of that. Yea a lot of the story is trash talk and putting each other down, but its still information.

I never was in the yaks vs sbi vs ebay matchup, but i saw the story, First everybody thought everything was cool, a good old match up, then some reports of teaming up occured, it was hear we learned that ebay had decided weeks ahead of time to target SBI whether or not yaks agreed. Their goal to take down a hated giant that ran all over them and told them to l2p. You can even match the posts to times in the point differential.

You can learn why ebay was able to hold everything in their borderlands in the morning. You get insight into the mind of SBI. Yeah a lot of the pieces are you suck, 2 v1. Denials, demands for fights. But WvW needs a narrative, it needs a context. If more players in pve even knew what was going on in WvW they would enter the fight. Like what happened when Yaks went to LA telling people of information gathered in part through forums.

Now, i said before its not the end of the world. But even if something is unpleasant to see, or hear for some, doesnt mean it serves no purpose.

Instead of closing the mathup forums, why not have the moderators create a topic for each matchup at the start of the reset, then, at the end of each matchup close the topic and move it into archive. If there is constant abuse by certain individuals, then remove their rights of posting in the matchup forum.

Maybe upgrade the forums so everyone is placed in their specific server ( and if they transfer it transfers on the forums ) and they can only post in their match topic.

and please anet, relax and don’t close a thread because its got an ‘inflammatory tone’ aka banter. Unless you want us to be robots.

Why the BG/JQ/SoR thread was just closed is beyond me. With full respect, I think your moderators are creating more of an “issue” with the threads than there really is. My post three posts above this one goes further into detail than this one, but I’d like to say again that these match-up threads should be open to competitive conversations that are not moderated in such a strict manner as other sections of the forum.

It’s obvious that your code of conduct will become strenuous for moderators in environments where there is competitive talk between opposing servers. That doesn’t mean that they need to be shut down… just simply moderated with slightly different codes of conduct.

I think this is not a very helpful decision. The match-up sub-forum had a lot of traffic from the WvW community and, for a significant amount of people, provided some of the entertainment involved with WvW. Having match-up threads where servers and guilds could converse in competitive manners brought more life to the game than you would think.

Sure people get angry, but doesn’t that come with any type of competitive gaming? This including any type of game, even offline (football, baseball, etc). It adds a hype that we can’t get in-game due to obviously not being able to talk at large with opposing servers and guilds. As the game progresses in age, you want to avoid any decisions that may dull the competitive game-play since most of us have been here for a long time and we need to stay interested.

I understand that your forum has it’s code of conduct and the match-up threads can get fiery, but your moderators do clean it up pretty efficiently. As for how you state that they spend too much time doing this, I think that just goes to show how much your player-base is involved competitively with each other. This just means that your game is alive and kicking.
