The Collaborative Development threads are a huuuuuuuge help for us to see what the consensus is from the community on the state of the game.

I guess we’re a bit puzzled that the last WvW CDI on Commander tag functionality was LOADED with feedback and what we got was our own tags blocking our view (NOBODY asked for that…) and an increase in the price to buy them that specifically contradicts what was discussed about tags having value in both WvW and PvE situations.

All delivered in complete silence as to what was the goal of these changes is and without patch notes to boot.

I think WvW dev team is the worst among ANET teams in communicating with players and address real problems in game play. SPvP team got lot of heat but they actually do show up on forum to answer player concerns. WvW team just don’t talk at all and don’t even try to address the “elephant in the room” balance problems in WvW.

Seriously, just scrap WvW already and make some tweaks to EoTM.

What is the point of EotM by itself?

1. If I want to fight for my server, WvW is far better.
2. If I want loot, PvE is far better.
3. If I want serious PvP where my skill matters, tPvP is far better.

Fine, EotM appeals to certain playstyles. But I really think most of the people there right now are there only because of unfixed problems with real WvW. The solution is to fix them, not destroy what could be a great playstyle for no reason.

Except that nobody ever cared about point 1 because servers are a lame way of allegiance.

Seriously… if I was fighting for my guild (and getting rewarded guild halls, capes, banners, influence, merits and much more for it), I would be there… but I’m not fighting for my guild because they don’t reward guilds AT ALL.

EoTM is not WvW. It is a more casual game mode that will replace WvW if no changes are made.

Pretty much. I think we both know thats how logic works on these forums.

What I have found thus far is you go in with a guild. Farms pugs and bad players. Full cap the map and get bored. There is no defending and no point in doing so because any organized force will wipe the map just like my guild and other guilds I raid with do. Something we rarely achieve in WvW. Because the people in WvW are organized and fight for PPT. EoTM is just a casuals/PvE/PvX zone. Good farming though.

Amen brother. If there is one mistake ANET made with EotM it is being able to pull in your friends trough the Overflow system. We pull our 30-40ish people in. We decimate the enemy. We farm the enemy. All the people on an enemy commander who don’t know we’re on the map yet? They die faster than I can tag most of them. Enemies left the overflow after wiping 2-3 times? Switch overflow, rinse and repeat. Hell just get into the enemy keep, leave the wp open and may the farm begin.

There is NOTHING to stop us. There is no reason for the enemy to try stopping us. In EotM atm there are two kinds of people – the farmers and the bags. Why would I stay in EotM as part of an unorganized force facing a guild or a server group in TS? I won’t kill anyone and I am not helping my server defending keeps in EotM against overwhelming forces. Spherical “fun” of defending? Have fun spending half an hour solo sieging up a keep in EotM, pouring a lot of your own money into it on the way and even then you will only be able to stop a PUG group, with luck.

I don’t see roaming as an option either. I am not talking about glorious 1v1-duels-look-at-my-youtube-video roaming. I’m talking scouting, cutting supply in the enemy back lines, destroying siege in towers with your well placed AC or even treb, supply trapping an advancing enemy blob. All the dirty tricks a roamer has to make the enemy blob commander start cursing in his TS. There is too little space and most of the places are too narrow to avoid getting caught by a large enemy advance . Not to mention you can’t cut the enemy supply since there are no cows and the enemy keep supply camp is behind the first friggin wall. So yeah. No real roaming in EotM.

Take away the ability to join up a friends overflow, make it real pug land. Then and only then EotM might become something more than a bag farm.

Where have you been for the last year? :P

Of course it is, the only reason that so many WvW players are now spending more of their time in eotm is that like any other game, players want new content. Eotm has been the only real new content to the game since anet filled up the lake in the BL maps.

So many players have left the game over the year due to a lack of updates and fixes, some obviously would have come back to see how eotm is like, but may not stay long. So eotm will keep a few players playing, but eventually again will get bored when yet again we dont see any new updates for another 6-12 months!

Macros, you can use them as long as they arent macros.
Remember to buy the officially endorsed GW2 Steel Series Keyboard, it supports macros!
WvW, we only care if it affects the servers we play on.

People are already taking EotM too seriously. It’s a frickin’ waiting room with pretty wall paper… Fight until Q is up or fight to kill time before you do something else. Don’t stress others to protect stuff or to obey the pin. It’s where people should be going to unwind not to deal with more orders.

Also, it’s kind of funny how suddenly so many people are saying there’s a problem in WvW because JQ are winning. BG’s logic: “Oh! EotM is s00per fun and kewl, bring yo friendz! :O, but JQ is winning?! HOW CAN THAT BE. WvW is brokin guise.”

Regular WvW has become increasingly untenable. Players are spread out over too many servers, and there’s too much of a disparity between the players that are still serious about PPT, and those who only want to have fun and fight other players / guilds. Many of the latter have abandoned regular WvW for EotM, or hot join blobs, whatever it is. Anet has only exacerbated these flaws by:

1. Never addressing what the role of guilds in wvw is, giving them any recognition or material reward for playing well as a group.

2. Making siege mechanics far worse with WXP abilities. Rarely is there an even, hard fought siege these days. It’s either a k-train with an insurmountable blob doing PvD, or an upgraded keep that has a nearly insurmountable amount of siege, plus the WP bug and war banners to deal with if you do spend hours getting inside. Most groups will map hop or wait for coverage gaps rather than commit to a long siege.

3. Disparity between roaming and zerging builds. Most of the best roaming builds / classes are almost useless in a zerg, while players with a zerg build are almost useless trying to roam or fight roamers. If you want to do both with the same character, you pretty much have to carry around 2 sets of gear, 2 sets of cons, pay to reset your traits every time you want to change roles, and manually set traits. Only the most avid WvW players will commit to this, and it’s almost completely unrealistic with ascended gear (and so are alts).

4. Long line of broken promises, terrible communication, general lack of care. We’re going to fix the commander system, do something about equipment acquisition, better reward scouts, just to name a few. Whoever is responsible for WvW PR has either been reassigned or spends 39.5 hours a week playing flappy bird under their desk.

I love your awesome back-handed insult that people who play EOTM are bads. I’m sure several <=T2 guilds who also enjoy EOTM would fully support that stance, right guys?

Don’t forget, SoR did win T1 matches, so clearly it wasn’t that hard. It just so happened that at the time, we had better coverage. Now you have better coverage, so you win. It’s that simple. For anyone to believe otherwise says more about them and their ignorance than it does about current affairs on SoR.
We currently feel that EOTM best caters to what we want to achieve in WvW play. If that doesn’t meet your expectations or definition of WvW, deal with it. We don’t play to make BG or JQ happy. And if a T2 server gets moved up due to our PPT decline, that’s not really our problem either. Should we be forced to play against BG and JQ repeatedly just because you don’t want to?
I feel for the Rallians who still want to win the PPT game. I’m sorry our guilds aren’t doing what you would like. But based on that same logic, you cannot fault us pursuing the gameplay experience we seek. The best I can do is recommend you start your own organized PPT guild, and/or take it up with key SoR WvW commanders.

The removal is to address the manner in which it is communicated in game. There will be a requirement to reach a rank in WvW prior to purchasing the Gift when we are able to provide adequate messaging to let players know why they can’t purchase it and what they need to do in order to be able to purchase it.

One has to wonder how many times ArenaNet will have to go through the convulsions of “Unannounced shift in rewards/gameplay → Temporary retraction → Actually communicate the change → Permanent shift” before communicating changes ahead of pushing them Live becomes part of the “this will altering gameplay” checklist. A required step before anyone signs off on pushing the alteration to Live Servers.

WvW people complain for a year about how getting a legendary is IMPOSSIBLE to do with only WvW and having to do lots of PvE to get it, and we get nothing to help us. PvE people complain for 1 week about having actually do a TINY bit of ACTUAL WvW (not just running around waiting for completion asking people to take stuff for them), and it gets temporarily removed to “re-evaluate”.

If PvE’ers can get great shinies without having to really do WvW, can WvW people FINALLY get some real shinies that they can get only doing WvW? I mean, give a rest on the “new” masteries. Give us some WvW shinies (note: those “new” skins they gave us earlier this year weren’t even new…weren’t great…not really worth it for level 80 WvW players). Maybe if anet actually listened to their WvW people, instead of constantly pandering to the PvE masses, they’d get more money from us (heck, Im sure that quaggan finisher got them quite a bit!)

I absolutely agree the PvEers shouldn’t be forced into WvW for their flashy items. That being said WvW should have it’s own way of getting top gear items without having to PvE or craft. That or just scale ascended and legendary stats down to exotic in WvW.

I would prefer to see legendaries broken into mode specific variations. No, not to tick anyone off, but because there simply are people that only play a single mode, and that is their right.

PvPers don’t even have access to legendaries in their chosen mode unless they leave it to play WvW and PvE, and they really shouldn’t have to.

WvWers that don’t enjoy the pve aspect of the game should not have to pve to get their ledendary. It should be completely obtainable via their chosen mode.

The same goes for pve players. Some, for any number of reasons, choose not to play wvw or pvp and should not have to.

Now, I understand that it is desirable to encourage cross mode play. Legendaries could still be used for this, by means of allowing cross mode players to obtain the mode specific legendary and then combine them to make something more visually ‘stunning’, similar to how sunrise and twilight are combined to create eternity. Perhaps the combination of any 2 modes would give one look, and the combination of all 3 would give another, while each individual mode should have its own distinct look as well. This would still encourage the cross mode play (since that’s the only way you could get the other look), but does not lock people away from the ‘top’ long term goal simply because they do not necessarily enjoy the other game modes. We all bought the game for different reasons.

Perhaps such a change can not be made to the current legendaries, without causing an uproar, but maybe it could be considered for future ones.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

All of these chokepoints will end up causing even more zerging as people get funneled into the same place. It’s extremely difficult to meet up with people on a separate part of the map. The cannons are just absolutely horrible. It feels like fighting in an eternal battleground where you own nothing and all the towers, keep, and SM have people manning all of the siege. The difference is that your mobility is far more restricted in EoTM.

Don’t think I’ll be spending even another minute in the zone. Small groups looking for fights want fights in relatively open areas without siege or mob interference.

Also, don’t pretend you play WvW to give your server bonusses. You do it because you derive fun from it. So the bonusses are more like an ‘accident de parcours’ then something you strive to achieve.

And when you accidentaly activate a bonus, you deserve no thx for that. If you were to WvW strictly to give bonusses then you would get my thx. But let’s face it, that’s not why you WvW, now is it?

so all the content that was pve only and drove us out of the part of the game we have fun with is cool but asking you to come to our playground is some how bad? Just wondering.

What i said is that no WvW’er should go and expect gratitude from strictly pve players for the srv bonusses. If they were to do WvW simply because of the bonusses, then they would be worth of our thx. But they don’t. They play WvW because they like it. If I as a strictly pve player were to unluck server bonusses for our WvW players, then would i be right in expecting thx for it? No.

You are perfectly fine in asking me to come play WvW. I’m perfectly in my right to say no. End of story. All this nonsense about how ppl should thank the benevolence of WvW players who play WvW against their will only to give us bonusses is just silly.
Because they play WvW for the WvW and the fun they derive of it, and not to unlock bonusses for the srv.

Also, how would pve content drive you out of pve. That just makes no sense. Also, why would something mystical that apparantely drove you to play the WvW which you really don’t like convince me of also playing WvW. Poor you, those mean dev’s forcing you to play WvW.

I don’t oppose the implementation of any WvW into the LS. I’m happy for you. But don’t expect me to thank you for giving bonusses by accident. And don’t expect me to take part in this LS. I don’t play WvW because I don’t like it. And these hautain arguments of how thankfull pve players should be to the WvW’ers are just nonsense, and make me resent a part of the community that I so far just ignored, since we never crossed paths.

All this chest beating and ‘bow down to us supreme overlords of PvP’ arguments just provoke one thing in me. Loathing and disrespect.

So by all means, enjoy the new WvW content. Just don’t annoy pve’rs with it or expect thanx for doing exactly that which you enjoy.

no, I’m strictly a WvW.player and find it annoying that if I really want to get any of the LS stuff done I absolutely need to pve. Yet I deal with it, I understand that pve is always a big selling point in an mmo and a bite my tongue and go kill a giant mechanical hooker. What gets to me now is people are so mad at the fact the this part of the LS is pvp driven and complain to no end with out stepping back and seeing that very little has been done for wvw and that maybe we need to spread some.of this development out. I for one hope to see more LS in EoTM since it is the best pvp area to do it in.

From the perspective of someone who WvW’s a couple hours a week but does zero PvP, I don’t think things will be as kittenome dedicated PvE’ers think. Here’s why.

First, WvW fights aren’t as structured as PvP. Instead of having two groups of people packed into a relatively small area, WvW “match-ups” tend to sprawl all over the place. As a result, there’s never enough population on both sides to contest the entire map. So while one objective may be locked down by the enemy, others will be in your teams control or contestable.

Second, griefing in WvW isn’t very satisfying. Why? Because you can’t see your victim’s name. Psychologically, that detracts from the joy griefers feel in the same way that de-humanizing enemy combatants makes it easier for soldiers to pull the trigger.

Third, there’s the numbers game. Griefers are a minority outside of prison showers. When the LS hits the Edge of the Mists, there’ll be one zerg for every griefer. Want to complete the LS and move on? So does everyone else. Pop in, find a blue dorito or a ball of green dots, and fall in. You might come into conflict with other people pulling the same routine, but that’s just the WvW analogue to champ fights.

So, again, from someone who avoids true PvP like the plague, WvW will be more familiar than strange. The red names across the valley are just mobs to be killed by you and your green-dot buddies. It’s nothing personal—you’re just a server and title to them, too!

You say griefing, we say war.

WvW players get poor loot and are forced into content they often don’t like just to get the very weapons they fight with. Long have we been the second class citizens of guildwars 2 and when content is added for us, its usually when something (orbs, quaggans) is taken away.

WvW keeps this game alive. The transfer fees paid by wvw guild migration are considerable and as structured-pvp is rapidly dieing out, wvw is where the pvp side of this game is headed. When Wildstar comes out, WvW will be what holds this game together, or what sinks it if a better home for us is offered. Its about time we got some kudos for the things we do to keep the pve side of the game alive.

So I say unto those venturing into the edge of the mists – come armed and come determined enough that when you fall, you get back up and you hunt out the one who felled you so that you can drive him or her from the mists and into the hands of Grenth himself.

The time to ignore us is over – you`re in our world now.

No one thinks it’s an easy fix Yoh… but we think it’s a fix that should have happened within the first year of the game considering the issues plaguing the class have been there since release. This game isn’t new and you have a class that has a core mechanic that has NEVER worked.

Numerous times have we asked for rigged solutions to the problem ranging from simply removing the pet all together to simply making F2 abilities work off the Ranger instead of the pet so they were at least responsive. ANet has ignored everything.

Using your mechanic to simply make F1 through F4 ground targeted abilities that the pet moves to would resolve some of the PvE centered problems, but the pet still has no functional use in WvW or really any engagement even slightly more involved than sPvP (even in PvP, if all 5 are on the node, the pets are worthless).

If the game had only come out a month ago, I’d agree with you that we’re asking for the moon and the stars. The game has been out a year and this class has never had functional pets, a viable power build, or group worth in WvW. A year is more than enough time to expect results.

Moment of Clarity would need something silly like you gain it on every evade, dodge, or interrupt before it was even remotely close to being worth a GM trait. I’m also 110% against another 30pt trait being designed as a condi solution for this class. Go with the other suggestions we’ve had in other threads like Quicken Zephyr removes 3 conditions when used. Lightning Reflexes clears immob, chill, cripple. Improve all Ranger Shouts since they’re so awful base to remove a condi and break stun.

The last thing this class needs is 2 30pt traits as the only options to condi cleanse. Now if you want to make Moment of Clarity an Adept Trait (which is all it deserves the way it currently works or a master if you put condi cleanse on it) then so be it. But leaving it GM? Come on…

So many of the Ranger’s 30pt traits are so awful compared to what other classes get nearly ever single one of them needs to be replaced.

As far as I’m concerned, the pet mechanic is appalling and completely unfitting. I don’t think the ranger is balanced around the assumption that the 1-2 attacks a melee pet successfully lands cover the difference in its sidestepped auto attacks. No, even with a mere 200ish extra damage on my auto attacks.. in so many situations for example where a mesmer could blink, and I would gap that distance with swoop or reverse sword 2.. and land 5-6 auto attacks before the pet can even catch up (and its attacks still liable to miss when it tries after its long waddle..) considering attack frequency then over the course of 25-30 seconds I’d still have done far more damage than even the drakes can cover with the occasional tail sweep and f2 they land. I don’t know about you all, but I personally don’t enjoy at all being the only class that is incapable of bringing its full power attacks to bear against moving targets. If I use my skills to cover the distance a kiting player makes, cut them off and hit them I DESERVE to do 100% of my character damage, not 70%.

To be even more of an annoying tease, the ranged pets despite having a higher hit ratio from less chase time have such lower damage that it can’t make up any difference unless you redistribute damage into the ranger with at least half glass, which makes you extremely susceptible to dying in situations glassy builds on other classes are more equipped to deal with.

And when I say unfitting, I also mean this.. as another ranger once mentioned in the ranger forums. How do we synergize with the pet? How do we work together? How are with this “champion of nature” they seem to think we are, fighting as one with our pet? Our best condi removal involves turning our pet into a disease bag, protect me disables the pet from attacking just and gives it all the damage you receive on a class that has large cooldowns on pet swaps. By nature the class mechanic promotes trying to keep the pet alive, but some utilities and traits promote the exact opposite.There is no attack that does anything like “You and your pet teleport to the enemy and attack as one” or anything with any semblance of synergy. The pet amounts to nothing more than 30% of our damage redirected into a clunky AI. No amount of babying it, no amount of cripple, chill, stun will enable it to land the amount of attacks it needs to on w,s,a,d spamming player. In all the best ranger builds the pet is an afterthought in, and the more you invest in the pet the less returns you get due to aforementioned problems. We have to sacrifice our heal at times that we desperately need to use on ourselves to keep the pet alive when it should logically have a player controlled heal of its own to keep it alive, like other games do. The only suggestions around lately to help the pet survive certain pve aoe rich encounters and the aoe rich environment that the devs are likely to entertain are those suggesting adding skills that work like a reverse protect me so that we can redirect its damage to us to make our evades have an affect on it.. which is a HORRIBLE IDEA. We should not have to sacrifice a skill slot just to make the pet do something it needs to be able to do without cost to the player.

But whatever. I’m done. I’m done with the back and forth arguments in the ranger forum, and the ignored suggestions by countless rangers. And the terrible suggestions by people who have gotten so used to being short-changed that they immediately offer up suggestions of at best half-baked skills knowing that’s the only thing that can get through. I’m done having player’s exploit the stupidity of the AI in the pet and use my own classes mechanic AGAINST me by effectively perma nerfing 30% damage when they move right, the very class mechanic that is supposed to support me. Unless a truly significant change gets announced in the next balance patch then I can tell you.. from now on I will be playing a class that is not built around defective AI. From now on, I am going to be the one taking full advantage of the pet AI in fighting rangers on a different class. And when I slaughter them, I will party them and tell them to not be ashamed, at that it is a substantial difference in class mechanics that cannot be surpassed through any amount of skill unless you roll a disgustingly boring build that revolves around spending 15% of its time puking out condition stacks and the other 85% running its kitten off while those ticks slowly whittle down their foes.

This class is a joke, and I’m done. I’m sure someone will say good riddance too, so be it. I’ve played ONLY ranger, on the competitive level for over a year. I spent months of solo roaming perfecting my craft, yet this class is simply less rewarding for skill than others.

I think the skins are gorgeous. The hearts aren’t overdone. It makes me think of the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland and her soldiers.

Danicia, please tell the Devs that the weapons need moar hearts. My manly, bulky, mustached norn isn’t complete unless he’s surrounded by hearts. Princess Wand was a start. Heart weapons are a nice addition. Heart ARMOR is next!!!

This is constructive criticism? Are you even smart enough to know what that means?

Also, the comment about how condition necros are just face roll. I always find these funny. In 1v1 yes, they can be pretty easy. However, a smart group will target the necro first and focus him down. If you have a horrible necro, they die easy and you will lose a fight. If you have a good necro, one that knows how to stay alive while still dishing out damage, then they are powerful.

If you watch many of the videos there are 1-2 other condition necros on the other team while still outnumbered. Shouldn’t that level the playing field?

And the whole thing about posting videos in the first place…. lol you have a condition engineer video on your youtube. What were you trying to do there? Show off? I know why you stopped making them though, you have some serious l2p issues.

Some people post videos because they enjoy making videos.
