lets just all agree that Anet messed something up with this season thing and we are all getting skilllag. The skilllag problem also gets worse when they is a lot of people next to each other.
I for one like blaming blobbadon because they are such easy targets and I enjoy their forum replies.

I think its fair to say that the forums have been a lot more eventful than the match up this week, certainly from our small scale point of view, morning fights have been in very short supply and prime time it seems everyone is with guilds or a commander. However the larger fights have been great and the attitude from Desolation players seems a lot better than when we last fought you. I guess its not suprising that most of the idiots who were joining our parties to abuse us left as soon as you slipped down the rankings.
I have to say that any Gandarans who thinks Desolation are hiding some kind of force which will magically appear over the next 7 weeks are kidding themselves. When we last fought Deso there was a 40 man blob every morning karma training all the maps, this week we’ve hardly ever been outmanned at that time in the morning, even on Deso BL. As for UW I hope you guys recover and have some more enjoyable match ups over the next few weeks, your players always fight til the last which is not something that can be said about all servers.
Not the best of weeks nor the worst, at least we all had some forum posts to chuckle over. Thanks to all those we’ve fought.
Not been active for a while now due to work pressures and the ‘ball and chain’ WTS my job and my wife so I can play properly again…..she can’t cook but boy can she………nag!
any takers!?
Ok back on topic I don’t think anyone really doubts why Deso are in the SL due to various factors and I don’t doubt that PvE hits both servers hard. The long and short of it is Gandara seem to have the numbers Primetime and Deso 2nd half of the week seemed to have had the numbers at night.
No problem each server knows where the weakness lies I think some of the aggression shown here is just a symptom of the perceived increase in night presence from Deso which came out of the blue, be it as part of recruitment or players starting to play again. However this is irrelevant really, as is the discussion about who tanked what and when the fact is we are where we are and we now know the makeup of the SL.
Good luck to all involved over the coming weeks I predict a strong showing from dark horses for the title for me are AG and GH. We have spies everywhere and my spidersense is tingling
And remember…..it’s them that dies will be the lucky uns….and its dog eat dog in this world and I am not gonna end up a tin of pedigree chum!

Well I agree completely with Dranul, though that might be my intrinsic hate of Deso as a server talking, I mean you have to hold yourself in high esteem if you place lower on the list than AM and RS to a Gandara player. In fact I’d really take any server over you.

Is ranger viable from purely the following point of perspective: ‘it can complete all game content if you try hard enough’ Yes.
Is ranger viable enough, when you compare their effectiveness/allround capability/dps-tank potential with other professions? Nope. They are far behind. Ofc ranger mains with little to no other profession experience will tell you otherwise. But they are wrong. Having played 300+ hours on all professions: The ranger is in a dark and underpowered spot. And it’s not a learn to play issues. It’s more like a ‘lack the tools to be great, rather then adequate’-issue.
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.
As a ranger for 2.400 hours, we’re doing quite fine. I do not play WvW, but for PvE purposes I have no problem with dungeons, fractals, Liadri or other “difficult” content. I do not feel kitten. As for PvP there are more than 1 viable build, which is more than I can say for other classes. I have no problem carrying myself into the 90th percentile, and I’m not that good.
Except from AI, bugs and small mechanic issues, we don’t have it that bad. In PvP i fear more for a longbow spirit ranger than any other class
Can you eloborate on your experience with other classes? Anyone can clear this game’s content. I mained a ranger for approx. the same amount of hours as you did; I can clear any content I want as well. That is, however, not the issue.
The problem is the sheer disparity between the functionality and effectiveness of the ranger class – when comparing it against any other class in the game. It’s so off that we have to actually prove ourselves through skill that we can manage content other classes can do pressing their auto attack and dodging the occasional NPC attack. It’s really that bad. The class is rife with bugs, overneglected skill+utility synergy and a crippling pet AI. This results in what ultimately is any class killer: low damage and mimimal group utility.
This is why many guilds, particularly succesful WvW guilds, don’t accept rangers. It’s too much of a gamble to fill that valuable spot with someone who will often be the weakest link, regardless of the person’s skill.
I wish I could give more constructive feedback at this point, which is what the devs obviously need. But after providing so many of it in the past, and after so little improvement, most rangers have given up being constructive. After a year of trying, they have lost hope that their suggestions for core improvements will be heard. With this patch, I would say: Yes, more pet health in PvE is nice as well, but their damage was nerfed so hard recently that it feels like we got the consolation prize. In WvW, however, the pet health was not buffed, so the pet still remains a liability that will die when it is hit by any form of AOE. Because that’s really uncommon in WvW, right? AOE damage? I have no words for how baffling and alienating this patch is in this respect. Not buffing pet health in WvW feels like a slap in the face to any ranger that posted any constructive feedback over the last 6 months.
Yeah they took something that was already nerfed and nerfed it some more, traps. Traps are the ranger equiv of the Engineer Grenade kit now back when the explosive radius was about the size of a fart from a midget. LOL hehe sigh sniffles…..I need a tissue.
Pets omg pets. not only did turrets not get a drop of the 71% health in PVE but ranger pets did and it didn’t make a single bit of difference predictibly! Seriously Anet 90% AOE immunity. It’s the only way unless you’ll be giving pets the Champion Boss level of hitpoints and the resists the bosses have to CC and burst damage.
Poor rangers are the butt of every joke in wvw. “Oh, you’re a RANGER!” Snicker snicker. “That’s too bad. Shoo we don’t want your kind here.” Even up levels laugh at rangers.
The state of the ranger is downed.

Warriors suck! (thanks for alerting me on this Conchis)
sorry I have been suffering from warrior hate for weeks now with the stun locking ones in spvp and now I have to be annoyed with the perma immobilizing ones in WvW…

The metrics already took away half of WvW dev team’s thinking skills.

Devon, listen up. Since you like to argue with your own logic and not listen to other’s, I’ll tell you why Wxp should be account bound with your logic you used while you were explaining to us why you implemented the bloodlust system.
You told us that you implemented the unbalanced bloodlust system that will help the winners win harder, and losers lose harder, because no matter the results, you wanted to see how it does in the live servers, and that is the only way to see the real effects of the bloodlust system.
Let’s use your logic here, so instead of just disagreeing to disagree about the account-bound WXP, why don’t we implement it to live servers just because, you know, my opinion is more important than yours, obviously. I mean, I’m a more superior human being than you, right? So let’s put account bound WXP to live servers and see how it goes and do whatever our almighty god metrics tell us to.

Sometimes im roaming for herbs and other gathering stuff and i get jumped on by 25 Grandara people………..Is that normal for a herb gatherer?
Wait ’till u try wood gathering!
It’s been a weird day/night even though I’ve only been on during the evening, but we could all notice the little resistance today, and then we had that new build with mesmers doing insane damage just by jumping off stuff, which I’m sure everyone has been doing so we shouldn’t be pointing fingers towards each other.
It turns out we’ve been running Karma trains for most of the day apart from the early evening, which is by no means something we enjoy nor want to do every day/night. Hopefully the leagues there will be a more ‘competitive’ matchups that last the week even with influx of pugs..

Moa’s
Again, the pattern is here for all our other useless pets, Less Damage, for kitten poor utility. If you want me to take a damage hit Anet, Esp after you already nerfed my class multiple times in terms of damage, You’re going to have to offer me a choice making it up with utility. one of the bigger reasons to use Moa’s is they have a Heal + Heal Field, That you can’t control what so ever…Not only does it have a very small radius, I can’t control when they use it…
1. Red Moa – This only useful Moa and its only used in Dungeons..No one is going to run around with this pet anywhere else because the damage loss of picking up Fury which only really helps certain power based builds isn’t worth it. Again we have an ability with a fairly long cast time that requires me to stand near the pet. This is why this pet is only used in Dungeons.
2. Blue Moa – Let me kitten my damage some for a 3-5 second Protection..That just sounds fantastic…
3. White and Pink Moa – Going to include these together, Because they suffer from same stupidity, Not only do i have to get my pet near the target and hope they stay near the target, I’m gimping my damage for for a 2 Second Daze, and a bloody 3 second Chill…Why in the hell would I ever bother lowering my damage for either of those abilities Anet?
There is a reason Rangers have chosen to use the higher dps pets Anet, and its real simple, Because you failed horribly to actually make these Pets some what useful utility wise. Until you sit down and rework this, you’ll continue to have the same issues.

I’m going to go through, and list off every pet, and why Rangers don’t currently use them, This will help you if you bother to read it…This will let you understand our current Motivations.
Going to start with Bears, Because they’ve basically been the calling card of bad rangers for quite some time now
Bears
1. Brown Bear: Why are Brown bears not used, Because their damage is poor, and they offer very little in terms of utility, which you improved this patch, There is zero reason to use a Brown Bear in this game unless you’re just bad…a Drake 99% of the time is the better choice. The Brown Bear in Particular is still not going to be used because You tied a large portion of are damage to our actual pets, So if we choose to pickup Bears we lower our damage to pickup what is usually a single utility skill. In this case, a 2 Condition Removal on a 25 second cooldown, That we have to stand next to. No one is going to make that choice. The only way it becomes valuable is when it start hitting 3 and 4 Conditions removed…As now you have an actual choice between DPS loss, and Condition Removal.
2. Black Bear : This comes back to the same reason you don’t use Most bears, They kitten your damage and usually the only thing you gain out of selecting this pet is the actual F2, in this case, a Weakness… That has a 1.25 second cast time….and a fairly long cooldown, Why the hell am I going to kitten my damage when I can pickup say a Spider/Drake/or any pet really and use Axe Main hand and get Weakness.
3. Polar Bear : This is even worse then Black Bear, its a low duration chill, Again… No one is going to trade up a ton of damage for an incredibly low duration chill.
4. Actodus : This has a bleed, That does less damage then just letting the pet auto attack because of its terrible cast time, and not to mention, absolutely horrible Cast Animation that telegraph’s it..
5. Murellow: Poison Field, Spiders can provide this, along with better everything….Again Zero reason to ever choose this pet.
Until you understand that gimping our damage for incredibly bad F2 abilities that provide crap in terms of utility, no one but very bad rangers and bots will use these pets…
Pigs
I’m not even go through each pig, Because every pig actually provides amazing utility, But you’ve decided to make this Utility INCREDIBLY ANNOYING TO USE… This is why Pigs aren’t used in general, I can forgive their terrible damage, and there god awful Knockdown that is a pain in the kitten to use, but if i’m going to do that…I want the utility of their F2 to be great, and more importantly, I want it to be somewhat User Friendly….and in this case, a Cactus in the rear is more user friendly then the Pigs F2 Abilities Currently.
Devourer
Have you noticed why Rangers use these pets underwater Anet? Its because they attack at .75 Seconds vs their land version of 1.00 seconds…That makes them somewhat decent, Not to mention, they have a great stun underwater…Do you know why they’re not used on land? Because their damage is horrible, and their utility is kitten.
1. Carrion Devourer – This has another one of those Poison Field abilities, Again, Why the hell and i’m going to pick a pet that does less damage, and less utility then a Spider which gets this F2 as a basic ability they just bloody cast…..There is no reason ever to use this pet…Everyone of the Spiders is 100% better choice.
2. Whiptail Devourer – This is basically our bloody Poison Arrow ability in Shortbow, only its got an incredibly long 2.50 Cast time..Why the hell would anyone again…Choose this ability, We have plenty of poison already and a Spider Easily offers this much better…..
3. Lashtail – This only usable Devourer on land, while it does have a fairly nice F2 for damage, Its got a 4 second Channeled cast time.. Meaning everyone will just dodge it….You’re basically giving up more utility for less damage then most pets.

My favorite part is, we got a 4 second reveal.
They got a blast finisher on blinding powder, so all they have to do is steal from us drop the healing spring and get a nice 2-3k heal plus condition removal and stealth.
I like the patch. Sure it wasn’t all we want, but it’s a step in the right direction. I think we should applaud anet for going in the right direction and ask them to keep buffing rangers.
Applauding anet is like applauding a chef for not sneezing on your steak even though he didn’t bother to cook it before serving it to you.
I probably shouldn’t be surprised. I knew we’re probably in for some sort of a letdown after they made it clear that main focus of this patch is going to be group support. Ranger simply lacks tools that can simply be buffed to improve that part of the class, without being given a major rework. Which was particularly sad for me, as I do like to play around with support options. Still, there were traits they could’ve worked on. There were shouts that could’ve been at least fixed so one can use them without worrying about skill queue ovewriting them constantly.
But Anet still managed to impress me in this department. Slightly decreased CDs on F2s are the buffs towards pet support abillities you talked about? Really? Well, congratulations, Red Moa and Fern Hound will still be the only useful support pets. And not that much more useful than they used to be.
I don’t even see a point in commenting the lack of pets hp change in WvW. Even when it comes to a mere band aid, Anet couldn’t apply it properly.
But the picture my imagination keeps generating at the moment is a bunch of guys sitting in front of a big screen, staring at some numbers. For hours, not doing anything else. Just “looking at weapon numbers”.
Personally, I’m tired. I always tried to be civil on the forums, even if I understood where the frustration shown by some came from. I like to think I was to some extend constructive in discussions I took part in, especially when providing any kind of feedback. I’m pretty sure there is no hate towards Ranger as a profession, or any other conspiracy there. But if I had some doubts regarding competences of the balancing team back in July, now I just feel that they leave me no choice but to actually consider them fully incompetent. There is no other explanation for this mess.
I guess I need a break.

2. Ranger has not gotten a single needed boost to its skills and abilities, and the pets continue to be as useful as a rock.
I have to disagree with this statement.
Picking up a rock in this game and throwing it at your enemy is way more useful then the ranger’s pets.
