Thread Necromancy is a forbidden spell nowadays RedStar.

Lol, even still it’s interesting to look back and see what direction the devs wanted to take with their content a few months ago.

…and then didn’t. As usual ^^

Ascended Gear Should be Like Fractal Weapons

Except for those that want to chase items with better stats.

But it’s all about you amirite?

Fun impacts loot collection. The rarest items in the game are not more powerful than other items, so you dont need them to be the best. The rarest items have unique looks to help your character feel that sense of accomplishment, but its not required to play the game. We dont need to make mandatory gear treadmills, we make all of it optional, so those who find it fun to chase this prestigious gear can do so, but those who dont are just as powerful and get to have fun too.

Colin Johanson

“Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games — we leave the grind to other MMOs.”

-Mike Obrien, President of Arenanet

Either this is all lies or you are playing the wrong game. Considering the nov 15th update and all the subsequent ones… enjoy the game as its been changed for you.

All ascended gear should be similar by offering basically skins.

This would improve the gameplay experience of players.

Never. Under water combat is just not fun.

No never, because underwater combat is broken in so many ways. Elite skills locked out, major targeting problems on land are worse in the water, 3D nature means its much harder to act as a “team” properly, and the effects themselves make it even harder to spot who/what/where is attacking or is a target.

The issue isnt that the content is bad, its that the “teaser” happened far from the actual release, several months of waiting is a poor judgement by anet.

Events should at most drag over a month period of weekly changes, anything slower and people forget or only show up for the first week then ignore it

I honestly like the concept and am looking forward to where it goes. I love the fact that you are trying to re-emerge the player with the lore and beauty of the open world. But I have to disagree with the roll out process which overly hyped lackluster content resulting in unsatisfied customers. And frankly with the bad taste that living story has left in many players mouths, I am not overly optimistic that people will actually check out the next release without just writing it off as another lackluster teaser.

Noted. We’ll try to improve on that.

i wouldn’t mind if 5 would come out of the portal, it would be a semi fair 5 vs 6 fight.
but 5 vs 21+ doing 1 instant skill ? no. just no.
portal bombs are as most bad as perma stealth thieves.
due to culling, you are dead before they are rendered.
and the worst part is that they can have children after being casted, by mesmers that come trough it

Honestly, if this was a teaser, it should have been rolled out quietly. No announcement. Then the players would be going nuts trying to figure out what it all means before getting hit with the real content.

Agreed.

Well, this Living Story is certainly not causing anything close to a buzz of excitement on these forums…I’ve seen everything from vague curiosity to bored indifference. Something seems to be missing in the imagination and execution department here.

I gotta wonder if they are still writing whatever the next piece is going to be, and generally making it up as they go along…

Once a character hits 30-40 for the personal story, the motto becomes “Undeads R Us.” From this level and up all the mobs are undeads. I know it has to do with the story and all, but it has become so monotonous. I did all the personal story quests with my first L80 character, but that ended the storyline questing for the other characters. I just can’t bring myself to go through tons of undeads again. Anyone else feel the same way?

Buy the boxes from Orr. You can probably make a fair amount of money by selling of the lodestones you might get! Or you could go for your legendary, the karma is useful then.

Gem store is a perfect example of this. There could be so many things done with it that players would love to buy, but if they gave us more options how many people would actually be spending money on such lack luster items like the cooking outfit and a sleeveless hoodie?

Every time I open the GS I ask myself this exact thing, where are the items to buy?! There’s only 1 set of armour (light, medium, heavy), a little bit of useless clothing, some upgrades and some boosters. Like wtf?!

They could sell so much on the GS it beggars belief there is next to nothing 7 MONTHS later to buy…

It has good promise but poor execution so far (seems to be a trend). I think the whole thing will eventually just end up being “fight more karka”. You know something is wrong with the “living” story when there’s more life in Orr.

I’m still not understanding why this is a “living story” and why I should care for it.

It’s living in the sense that it’s changing without any “update”. That is to say while on the surface it may appear you’re progressing it, but in actuality its just a time activated computer script.

I’m glad the world is changing however, i’d rather it change in a more one-time event fashion than a slow rolling script.

I think you are suppose to be lost.

My problem is that , so far, it hasn’t been fun. I don’t like looking for some guys car keys in the snow. The enemies are exactly the same as the other ones in the world.

Meh.

I have to agree to some degree. I actually don’t mind going on missions that span the world, but I’m not interesting in randomly combing every square inch of the map looking for an object.

There just needs to be more direction. I don’t need to have my hand held or anything, but there needs to be a balance between easy and just ridiculously hard to find.

The same enemies is a bit of a cop out, but perhaps there will be some surprise in store.

Is it just me, or does the living story make no sense?

More specifically, does anyone else feel totally lost as to what is going on?

Yesterday my girlfriend and I were trying to find some lost items. The NPC we talked to gave us no useful information, and so instead of combing an already completed map, we simply jumped on map chat and asked for directions.

There was no mystery, no adventure, no context…just go get an item and bring it back to the NPC.

Since the start of this living story I have felt like someone who is reading every tenth page of a novel. Sure, I vaguely understand what is going on, but in practice it feels disjointed and random.

For example, if I lost my wallet and someone was asking me where it might be, I wouldn’t be like, “Well, it was probably somewhere in this province/state.” That person would be like, “Well, good luck finding it.”

If however I was like, “Well, I was somewhere between here and the grocery store when I lost it.” that person would be much more likely to go out looking for it.

I see what they’re trying to do with this living story, but ANet has a bad habit of being so vague that it only real viable solution is to ask someone in map chat and hope for the best. This same thing happened during some of the past events where the direction was so convoluted that most people didn’t even bother trying to figure it out (remember the hunt for the halloween backpack?)

I’m really interested in seeing how this story pans out, but I also really hope ANet learns how to actually tell a story. Make me care, give me some direction, and send me on my way.

The no grinding thing has been abandoned a long time ago. Used to be you only grinded for cosmetics. Now you grind for top gear and for content, as well as to ungate some content.

GW2 is far grindier than the MMOs they were making fun of at/before launch.

As far as I’m concerned, it’s just another way for me to save money by not buying items in a failed cosmetic system. Every time I look at the town clothes I remember how much money I spent on costumes in Guild Wars 1 versus the zero money I have spent here. I’m voting with my dollars and if everyone did that, maybe they would change the way they handle costumes.

I bought the Halloween costumes because I liked them. I regretted the decision when I realized they were stuck on just one character unless I went through the hassle of moving them around via the bank and shuffling around the default town clothes I did not want to destroy.

Those were the first and last costumes I will have in GW2 until this system is fixed to at least be on par with the one they managed to wedge/hack into GW1 years after release. This is coming from someone that bought every GW1 costume. Just another lesson learned in GW1 that seems to have been thrown out the window for no good reason.

Were there any other questions?

I mean really… if you really want to defend getting one laurel per day then I guess we will never agree. There’s nothing wrong with you and I agreeing to disagree.

I would rather see innovative and interesting content than the same old dailies we’ve seen in other games.

I’d rather see a better way to achieve the goal of acquiring the best gear in the game than time gated dailies.

Laurels via Achievement Points

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Keiran.1896

Keiran.1896

It was probably perfectly clear for Colin

Well I guess that leaves two viewpoints

Laurels only for dailies/monthlies – no ties to achievement system otherwise, instead something different will (hopefully?) be coming.

Laurels only for dailies/monthlies starting at that point in time, not retroactively – further rewarded retroactively for achievements already accomplished.

I personally would be fine with leaving it at laurels, but who knows what else is in store for us, might even be better. Could not think of anything right this very second though.

Rules to understand Colin:
- If what he says has several interpretations, take the pessimist one.
- Lower the degree of awesomeness of his messages by 10 degrees (do not get too excited by what he announces).
- Try resuming his huge paragraphs to a simple sentence. It always work.
