Jump and press jump again midair = gliderAuthor’s note:
I’m making this suggestion after reading what felt like the thousandth topic on how the glider messes up jumping puzzles and other traveling menial tasks. I personally do not experience these problems, but I would fully aprove of the setting as mentioned above
You mean like this?
Double-Tap to Evade — Double-pressing a movement key will make your character roll in the same direction. When disabled, you can only evade by binding a key to the Dodge action. Many players recommend disabling this option for those who use non-standard input devices or who find themselves accidentally double-tapping (and thereby wasting endurance), and especially while completing jumping puzzles.
An option that has been in the game since Launch or Close to Launch.
I thought Gliding had a similar setting but I never checked since it never bothered me.
And here I thought the ability to adapt to a changing environment is what enabled kitten sapiens sapiens to evolve as far as they did. I guess that’s true of the species, but not of every individual within the species…
Seriously, though. Learn to adapt. Every game since the 80’s had [insert whatever mechanic]. Well, GW2 doesn’t. You either adapt or get left behind. Unless you have a disability that prevents you from executing jumps without gliding, all you need is the will to change. Frankly, the expectation that all games throughout the decades should hold to the same mechanics seems rather unrealistic and reductive, not in the least boring.
Edit: thanks to forum censorship I can’t even write our species’ taxonomic designation without baby cats popping up……

No this is so dumb!
When I do long jumps I like holding down the spacebar!
That is how I play games that have Jump…You use the controls wrong so the game is being dumb? Ok…
Another l2p issue. You’re used to holding spacebar despite the fact it doesn’t add any distance to the jump.
Exactly. Learn not to hold space bar for jumping. Problem solved.
Most jumping puzzles disable gliding anyway..I’m NOT using the controls wrong noob.
This is how I use the controls since GW2 beta when doing jumping puzzles. This is how I played it before the stupid gliders came into the game. I shouldn’t be forced to use a jump key any different because they added a gliding option which btw still cannot be disabled by choice.Problem is people play and use keys differently and this is how I use it.
This system is BROKEN…
It needs FIXING…
Best FIX is to ADD 3 Options I suggested:Option#1 – Double-tap spacebar to glide
Option#2 – Hold spacebar to glide
Option#3 – Keybind a key to glidePROBLEM SOLVED….
Seriously…If you like how it is now then great… But I don’t and I’m not the only one… I mess up a lot because of this stupid gliding system and my suggestion simply adds options for players to play the way they want that works best for them. What works best for me is double tapping spacebar and/or keybinding glider to avoid turning my jumps into glide when doing jumping puzzles.
So because you’re too stubborn to evolve your key usage, you expect Anet to change it around you?
edit: and yes I used to have this problem, I would hold space for too long. However I’ve gotten used to it now.

No no no. Holding spacebar (jump) for gliding is perfect way to open it.
It is a great feature!
1) Most JP areas disable gliding.
2) You don’t need to hold “jump” if you dont plan to open glider, just release the button! Only wsad/arrows matter!

The length of time you hold down the jump button has no bearing on the distance of the jump.
If you don’t have money for voice talent, use free talent,
This strikes me as the most out of touch, unlikely comment I’ve seen so far.
Just round up 10 people (2 sexes and 5 languages) who are willing to come in and work for all the hours it would take to record the dialog and not see a penny of payment? And round up 10 people not once but every time they need new dialog? Are there no laws against having people put in hours of work for a company for free and they intentionally profit from this unpaid work? Are there no unions that would have an opinion about a company getting around voice actors wages in this matter? I’m betting this isn’t even legal as it had people put in a full time hours for a company while they are not getting paid.
ANet may give it to you.
Races are a launch feature, not an expansion feature.
Not for WoW apparently.
Personally, i’d rather have a new race than Legendary weapons and armour.
And a new race is more fitting for an expansion pack. And SWtOR.
Considering the armor is likely going to get complained about for buttcapes or something, i’d agree.
SW:TOR’s races have no relation to story or lore. They also all have identical body shapes.
But they have different voice actors. Different diffs for different games.

I don’t think a new race in an expansion would sell any character slots. The same hullabaloo that happened with the new Profession included in the last expansion would ensue. The playerbase would insist a character slot was included in the expansion to allow one to create said new race.
I would be cool with crafting legendary armor. It isn’t cheap (based on craft the weapons), and the daily gates would keep anyone from obtaining the set instantly (something that uses a legendary mat to make another mat, maybe), even with all the mats needed. People raiding would still have a better opportunity to aquire a full set before people crafting (in theory, barring horribly bad luck).
If they want to make it more difficult to obtain in other forms of play, that’s fine, but I don’t have the time to raid, and I would still like to work toward a legendary set.
Listen up,
If you want the best, the most prestigious and the ultimate reward in this game? You’re going to have to go through the most difficult, the most frustrating and the absolute challenge that this game can offer you!
Would you really feel better, if you could farm Legendary armor in Silverwastes? I know I wouldn’t, because what’s ’’Legendary’’ about that?
And about the pugging Raids, just do it man. I’m at 15/18 Envoy Armor and I started 5 weeks ago. I’ve pugged every single Raid and I’ve had plenty of wipes over kills.
Just do it! It’s not that hard as many people think it is! I thought the same as you before I started, but now my mind has changed.
your EU huh? on the NA side i spend hours upon hours waiting for pugs that requires my class (condi/healer druid/warrior)and find myself lucky to get 4 kills a week. havnt even bothered the last few weeks. not worth my time waiting anymore.
Good thing about SAB is that it’s an instance that has no effect on the playerbase who has no interest in SAB.
Except that devs already complained how much effort it is to make a single sab map.
As a result, it does affect us. It takes several devs a month or longer to make on map. All that effort couldve gone to ls3, current events, or expansion.. I dunno.. actual content
They actually don’t, though. The largos share most of their assets with the other humanoids and the tengu share theirs with the charr (pre-HoT tengu even share the same posture and idle animations).
No they share the same animation sets
Applying the same animations to different meshes is easy, the only requirement is that both meshies have the same number of joints in the same hierarchy.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skeletal_animation
Armor however has to fit the mesh itself not just the animation rig. Tengu have a massively different mesh than charr do.

What I’m seeing in this thread is, anytime anyone points out a problem with adding new races someone else says they can get around it by removing something.
Personal story?
Removed. Too expensive.Home city?
Removed.Leveling area?
Removed. Start at level 80Voice acting too expensive?
Get whoever you can who works for the company, can speak the language and doesn’t sound awful.Cultural armor?
Removed.Specific racial features such as wings are a problem?
Removed or optional. So, what do you have at the end of all this? You have a race with no personal story, no leveling, no cultural armor, specific racial features are optional, no home city and voiced by Bob in accounting, until he gets a better job elsewhere and then James in janitorial services will start voicing it. He doesn’t sound anything like Bob, but hey, he’s cheap and he’s not awful so that’s a plus.
This thread started out with a new race with all the background and trimmings that the original 5 have and has cut back and cut back due to addressing problems until it has ended up with a race that has nothing going for it but the body. It’s a cut rate, bargain basement version of a new race that no one outside the people advocating it in this thread would be happy with.
When or if the game adds new races it’s a reasonable expectation that they’ll be on the same level of complexity as the others. Anything less will be seen as a sign that ANet is so hard up for cash that they can’t do a proper job. Don’t expect that ANet putting a bare bones version of a race out there to be happily accepted by the players. They are going to want to know why the new race is so stripped down that it’s only the body and not the whole package, and I don’t think telling them they got so little because doing the job right costs more will make them happy.
So. If this is the best y’all can come up with then I’ll be just as happy for ANet to hand out transformation tonics. Does exactly the same thing as what this thread is proposing for a fraction of the cost.
I’m afraid you were reading wrong, because that’s not what people said.
- Personal story? Yes, but not the way it was done in the vanilla version. The race starts at 80 and follows living-story development in multiple instances.
Personal story removed and only LS available: check
- Home city? No one said it should get removed, it’d be there.
Remember I said someone would say remove
Amaimon.7823:
1) it’d need a home city with a home zone. And thats why tengu is unlikely, there’s no space for both.
Home city (and leveling area) suggested to be removed (for Tengu): check
- Leveling area? No need for leveling area, since they start at 80. Instead other 80 zones that fit the theme of the race and the expansion that other races can also explore.
Leveling area removed: check
- Voice acting? Few workarounds have been suggested (in case there are any problems), but first of all, we don’t know for sure if it is indeed TOO EXPENSIVE. That’s smth people just came up with, without any concrete facts.
Professional voice acting removed and voice acting by ANet staff: by Leo G
- Cultural armor? Once again, no one said it should get removed. People just suggested that since the race starts at 80, no need for 3 sets, just 1 (in 3 weights). But once again, that’s assuming there are financial difficulties with that, that no one from anet confirmed yet.
Cultural armor removed, now only one set instead of 3: check
- Specific wings/whatever. Indeed, the ability to switch them so they would not clash with existing wings/backpacks. There is 0 lore on largos wings. Nowhere does it state they are natural (and not artificial) or that every largo has them. Maybe this kind of fins is just fashionable among largos. You don’t know that. And honestly, largos are not even prominent in the vanilla story enough, they pop up for 1-2 instances and events, so what’s this strong attachment to the wings, how are they gonna ruin your whole perception of the race?
I don’t have a strong attachment to either the wings or the Largos but you can bet that the people who want to play Largos want those wings. The average player isn’t going to care if they are a natural part of that race or not. The wings are emblematic and expected. Just read the threads about them.
Basically, you just made up 80% of what you said here.
I don’t think so.
And as I’ve said multiple times, if they appear in expansion, they can combine the resources of creating said race zones with new expansion zones. So all your ‘budget is too low for that!" arguments (when you don’t even know how much it costs and whether they can afford it) are pretty much empty.
Wasn’t my argument.
ANet may give it to you.

What you want just isn’t profitable and adds to the work load of everything new that will be put in the game if it’s there.
Yea I’d marry one
I would like someone to shower me with riches and treat me special. Since I don’t have that in real life how about an NPC that carries a gold filled basket. As I walk along he can toss gold at me. Another NPC can run ahead of me, flinging rose petals up in the air to land for me to walk on and lay jackets down if I have to cross muddy areas so I don’t get my feet dirty.
ANet may give it to you.
On my wishlist is:
Please sort that litle symbols for condition, boons, banners, potions etc.
They are shown in incoming order (I guess), bug please pug all boons together, all conditions, banners, fractal potions, buff food.
Having exclusive rewards per Gamemode is fine it shows what you did to accomplish it, now they need to make sure all Gamemodes have access to the same quality rewards, i.e. New Legendary Armor for WvW, PvP and possibly a way to craft Legendary Armor for PvE all with Different Skins so that they are distinguished by what they did. Game modes having monopolies on quality of rewards is a problem, Anet shows they are slowly fixing that issue with the latest PvP update, they just need to expand the effort
That’s a simple solution. Or, just have a way of upgrading any armor to Legendary stats, so you can have the stats, but not the “show-off-ness” that the raid players desperately crave for some reason.
No vertical progression is why I limit my time in this game. I clear the raids, keep my placing in pvp, but other pve and wvw content there’s no point to playing.
That’s the reason I play this game to start with and keep with it. It’s not a WoW clone, nor should it be.
By Legendary stats you mean Ascended Armor ? Since they are the exact same stats.
I think they mean the stat switching ability
Yes, have a PvE track that finishes with a way to upgrade any armor to Legendary Quality, whatever that brings.
I’d say make non-Raid PvE Legendary set in addition to the raid one, so that people can have both, or one or the other, but Anet hates making armor sets, so…
They wouldnt even have to make a new set. Ask anyone that plays wvw seriously. We really couldn’t care less how it looks. Give it the same skin as the exotic wvw armor you can buy for badges. We just want it for the stat swapping utility. Let the raiders keep their fancy transforming armor. Just add something for proofs of heroics+badges and make it look generic but have stat swapping functionality. I hate pve and have no desire to do it for something that would be hugely beneficial for wvw. Its bad enough wvw players are forced to do pve for guild upgrades for wvw.
I’m sure pvers wouldn’t enjoy it if they were forced to complete all 4 maps in wvw for each raid armor piece or something as similarly stupid. no player should be forced to play a mode they despise for rewards that would be useful in another mode.
Also, so pvers cant whine about it, make a way for them to get gift of battle without doing wvw. They don’t want to be there, we dont want them there taking up queue space and afking in spawn or feeding enemies kills running around in their pve builds and getting stomped, giving the other team points. And in exchange, give us our own unique legendary armor without having to ever do pve. I’d say its a fair compromise.
(edited by Nikkinella.8254)
The only skins exclusive to raids should be the ones associated with the bosses themselves. Things like that half set of White Mantle weapons are just not acceptable, those should have been rewards in Bloodstone Fen.
Raids are less Toxic than dungeons were
No they aren’t. Raids are the toxic “DPS uber alles” meta of dungeons given an entire game mode, where you need optimal builds in order to win at all. Any 5 idiots can beat a dungeon bringing virtually anything, and the dungeon meta was just about beating it quicker.
There’s also the matter of other players acting against you for the most parts of the JP (especially on the exploding presents part). There should never be a case where, in PvE, you’d rather be alone than with other players.
