All of the staves are lacking IMO… but this would fit nicely with my character’s theme.

I’ll even name it for you. Call it the lightning rod.

You’re welcome.

This is the perfect of example of what I would NOT like to see come to GW2.

Totally agree. There’s a lot of lore/immersion breaking items thrown into the game for the sake of making money as it is, but this would be a big no from me.

And yes, I’d remove your advertisement quickly…

You might want to remove the “side note” — the question about Elvis costumes is a fun idea. But advertising a TV show and a network? not so much.

edit: crossed out my note because it’s no longer relevant, now that the remark has been removed by someone other than the OP

Even that depends on what you mean by “evil.” The dragons sleep and ooze magic, they wake up hungry, then they consume magic, and finally they are sated and can go back to sleep once more. That sounds like any number of naturally-occurring species to me, granted on a much larger scale than any extant ecosystem on our Earth.

Eh…

They can do all that without intentionally wiping out entire civilizations, turning living beings into monstrocities, setting loved ones against each other, enslaving said living beings by overwriting their free will, and threatening genocide.

If all they did was wake up, eat magic, then go back to sleep to leak it out… they’d not be villains. Because they wouldn’t be assaulting all known civilizations and creating vast hordes of minions to do so.

The Elder Dragons are very clearly intelligent and very clearly function with their own personal goal in mind which is not merely (and possibly doesn’t even include) the balancing of magic.

Zhaitan’s champions all talked about eternal life through undeath and the reunion (and lack of loss) of loved ones and friends, while Zhaitan sat in a rather literal kingdom of undead (stations and ranks retained besides kings/queens, risen resumed their work from when non-corrupted, but all were enslaved to Zhaitan’s will). (Which makes one wonder what led Zhaitan to focus on offering reuninion with loved ones…).

Mordremoth personally talks about being the world and being home, while those it corrupted talk about destroying the world, and Mordremoth being truth, indicating a desire and goal to replace the known world and become the sustainer of life.

Jormag offers power (and not just via the Sons of Svanir doctrine), takes primarily willing converts, and even lets go unwilling yet powerful individuals (Frozen Portal hero challenge in Frostgorge), indicating an intent to turn the world into where “survival of the fittest” is law, without intent of corrupting all life unlike the other Elder Dragons (in a way, this makes Jormag the least evil Elder Dragon).

Etc. etc.

Honestly, the Elder Dragons have not gotten the screentime the small, staggeringly spread out hints of their personas deserve. If it were a comic with a humanoid villain, I feel the plot against Zhaitan would have featured a mini-series or set of chapters featuring a flashback to what led Zhaitan down a dark path that included ensuring his “subjects” never lose loved ones, like a personal loss himself while trying to become a good ruler and was betrayed by his own subjects or something.

And now I have images of a dragon kingdom where Zhaitan ruled in ancient Tyria… and I want said comic to be a thing, even if for nothing but laughs at the silliness of the prospect.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

1. No. Not all dragons are Elder Dragons. GW1 had a large variety of dragons, and only Glint was tied to the Elder Dragons then – indication in lore is that she was a dragon before being corrupted by Kralkatorrik even, though this is still largely speculation. Glint does mention a world in the past where dragons ruled, but whether this refers to the previous dragonrise or a time more ancient is also unknown. Either way, there’s indications of many species of dragons and dragon-like kin (I’ve counted 5 confirmed, 6 speculated such species).

We largely speak of Elder Dragons – and their minions – when talking of dragons because that’s the only kind of dragons that Tyrians deal with anymore… until wyverns.

2. Glint turned against Kralkatorrik millenia before Destiny’s Edge was forged or born. She was both a dragon and Kralkatorrik’s champion. This is what she looked like in GW1.

3. In theory, yes, she’d need to consume magic to live and as a result of doing such she can potentially become more powerful. We do not know what her own motives are, but do human babies have motives in the months after being born?

The whole point seems to be (note: still theory since Anet likes to keep players in the dark about vitally important things for the sake of “mystery” even though that’s not a mystery at all) raising a dragon who could become a benevolent Elder Dragon. Nurturing Aurene to be compassionate about the races, whereas the Elder Dragons are malevolent. And on top of that, it’s believed that we’ll be getting Aurene (and maybe her elder sibling, Gleam) to be replacements for the six Elder Dragons in full.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

You have a point that we don’t really know if Aurene is truly evil or not. But she’s just hatched and is rather young and impressionable. Being Glint’s Legacy and practically raised by the PC and the Exalted, I’m assuming she’ll become a force for good, if not for neutrality.

My theory is: yes she’s an elder dragon. And after the other Elder Dragons have been destroyed, she will become the most powerful and influential.

However, this wouldn’t make her necessarily evil. She will take over the role the Elder Dragons had but in a new, more peaceful fashion.

I have no interest in SAB. Bringing the 8bit monkey into play in this mission has taken me from looking forward to seeing how my various alts will play through the mission to instead feeling as if I will have to pass on playing this chapter of the LS with any characters other than the one already in.

I get it, AN has an 8bit gaming fetish, but there is no need to push it on others. SAB is great in its implementation. Completely segregated from core content so that those interested can indulge as they see fit while others can ignore its existence. Why the change? Advertising a game mode that isnt even available seems like a bad idea.

Not sure you can call it an “advertisement” when the content it would be advertising isn’t even available in-game right now.

Perhaps the fact that you have no interest in SAB means you’ve also missed why the Super Monkey appears in Taimi’s Game.

Taimi says she brought Moto in to help with fixing the machine because she couldn’t do it herself. Moto is the Asura who created SAB. Which makes perfect sense, because the machine is all about holograms that need to be interactive to “digital copies” of the user and act like real creatures. Which is exactly that Moto created with Super Adventure Box. And its nice to see that Taimi does have actual limitations in terms of knowledge and expertise and isn’t just a genius at absolutely everything.

She left him alone with the machine while he was working (she says something along the lines of “I only left him alone for 5 minutes!” when the monkey shows up) and he decided to do something silly and import one of his creations into it. Which is hilarious and totally sounds like something Moto would do. Heck, he inserted himself into SAB as both the princess and the character who sends you on your journey.

Personally, I love the fact that instead of just bringing in some random new character or having Taimi be an expert in yet another field, they actually did a bit of world-building and connected the instance with something else which happened in GW2’s world.

Its too bad that there was no cinematic.
The one upon arrival to bloodstone fen (and verdant brink) made me breathlessly watch it.
It was such a gripping and terrific work of art and story.
It is too bad there was none on arrival to Ember Bay, on the boat or something.
These cinematics give you a true sence of adventure, as if your character was an explorer.

What suprises me is one thing: Taimi found out about Primorduses activity while the pc was in BF, now ifyou consider it story-wise, he was there for less than 2 days.
How did all that krewe make so many bases of operation and tuned in gates, when its said that it takes a long time to retune them? Let alone, get to the island, secure a zone and man up defences?
Eighter the asura have made huge progress during the past 2 years or i dont know.

That’s a major point right there: First they had to get there – looks like a longer journey. Then they had to find a safe place and set up a portal for us at the same time.

Unfortunately we didn’t get any information on that, we don’t even know how they got there. To the airship theory: are there any working airships they could’ve used? The one in Bloodstone Fen (Pride of the Pact) seems to be damaged and also it’s still floating around there. Don’t know about the Aerodrome.

With no information in the story itself, it’s even more important to hear an official statement from the story department of Arenanet.

Were talking about a fantasy world of Magic and Dragons, and people are actually debating rather or not it is POSSIBLE to bring back Zhaitan….

Of course there are ways they could bring him back. now rather or not it would be a good idea storywise is debateable.

IMO, I would totally be alright with this. the first fight sucked because Zhaitan was considered weakest of the Elder dragons. I would like to see a comeback of EPIC Proportions where in a plot twist he is Not only the strongest but Rules over the other dragons.

The majority of players might have done the story to the end, but not the majority of characters. I have 10 level 80s and I know that 9 of them are highly unlikely to ever do the full personal story. Too long, I’ve done it once already and doing it again and again and again and again isn’t worth my time. I have a feeling that a lot of people have not done the story all the way through for more than a couple of their characters, and they may never do it. It would be immersion breaking for many people if most of their chars had the post Orr map when those chars hadn’t finished the story.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

The “ley line anomalies” that spawn randomly around the maps are all based on the client. So maybe they are testing some new tech about phasing?

If I remember correctly my friends and I were able to see the same anomalies, so it’s probably map based, but I’m not sure about that.

You can’t see the same ones because they are client-based, not server based. I’ve seen them in Heart of the Mists and nobody else could see them, I’ve seen them even during Raids and nobody else could see them. Maybe some open world versions are server-based, or it was just luck that you saw the same one as someone else.

Changing maps after you’ve done a certain story would just show progress along the story. Actually everything a living story is about (like the destroyed Lion’s Arch, Kessex Hills, etc.).

That’s how it works when it’s changing live but if it’s story based it’s different. You can’t have a “living” story for everyone that is also based on YOUR story progress. Imagine what would happen in a zone once the majority of the playerbase passes that point in the story and newer players can’t see anyone to play with.

Just a flesh wound.3589

Having multiple maps dependent on where you are in the story line would split the player base and could cause immersion problems.

If there are 2 Orr maps and if having the post Orr map requires having the story done on that character then not only does it force people to do the storyline to the end on every single level 80 they have if they want access for all, but people who haven’t done the story on that char can’t play with those who have. Or it forces them not to do the story on that char if they don’t want to be switched over. If it’s account wide then you’ll have chars that haven’t done the story and who have post Orr maps, which breaks immersion for a lot of people. Plus, not everyone is going to want to be moved over to a new map after finishing the story. Maybe they like the events on the old map better or like the way it looks.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Also, OP might be interested in the latest Guild Chat; the Devs talk a bit about how maps can now show different things to individual players, at the same time.

I also played GW1 so I know of what you are discussing here and comparing. The thing is it was needed in GW1 because there was no open world. They made the missions that way to put the Multiplayer aspect into the MMO part of it.

Here there is an open world so they really didn’t need to “force” it. You can go out, anywhere and find players and join in on working with them without the drama of needing to join groups or needing this or that class etc or whatever.

Yes dungeons here are pretty much GW2’s version of that as well as fractals too and then of course raids. Dungeons and Fractals as well as raids are believe it or not MEANT to be about the stories they bring. Sure people play them for the rewards mainly but there are the stories there and that’s what it’s meant to be about.

I certainly don’t think it’s a good idea or want future PS or living story to turn back into what GW1 was. It’s just not needed here. I however certainly am not against new dungeons, raids or fractals with new stories as I think that will of course add more to the game.

I think maybe you need to find a guild or group to adventure with and perhaps do dungeons and fractals for the STORY part perhaps? That is NO skipping the scenes, watch them, ENJOY them and get that immersion that you are seeking.

One thing I would like to say however. I did like the dungeon system better in GW1. That is you go in and clear out rooms one by one. None of this nancy garbage you do here “run past the mobs” “cheat this way” for faster clears! Perhaps anet could add a few more like this too!

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?
