It’s ok to come to this thread just to post this. I hate the meta bs, so boring.

It’s ok to start friendly conversations during downtimes in ranked pvp.
It’s ok to turn off chat when people don’t keep conversations friendly.
It’s ok to feel like a child again when your favourite annual festival starts up.
It’s ok to not care about “meta”, or to optimise a build for something other than damage.
It’s ok to give your own opinions/advice on a class when that advice is asked for.
It’s ok to play something else when this game stops feeling fun. So far there’s always been a reason for me to come back. =)

It’s okay to think outside meta and use a custom build and stay alive, instead of focussing on 100% DPS and then dying over and over cause you want to feel elite.

It’s okay to get your healing (fill in class here) and make sure ppl can finsih their content 10-15% slower instead of wiping 3 times and leaving unfinished

It’s not okay to get told by your friendly guild to git gud and it is ok to subsequently think: “Why should I need you, cause I’ve been playing this game for 4 yrs now and you know how to kill this , but fail at everything else, except at bragging about the 1 thing you can kill, even though I killed it as well and all the other stuff, maybe just a little slower, but on the 1st try”.

It’s okay to be content with your normal crafting routines and get your last class geared up fully, while others ping their 8th legendary, but are still bound to 2 classes.

It’s okay to craft your 8th legendary and accept you only have 2 classes

It’s ok to be who you want to be, when you want to , with who you want to.

It’s ok to play a game for fun.

23 lvl 80’s, 9 times map, 4ele, 4ncr, 3war, 3grd, 3rgr, 2thf, 2msm, 1eng, 1 rev.

Would be a great feature to be able to customize the color of skill effects, like in city of heroes, so we could have a bit more individuality for our characters.

Im sorry but im going to have to bash you for this. GW2 did NOT fall from any glory! It was a highly hyped MMORPG that failed to deliver during its first years because end-game was poorly platformed. You want to know the only thing you could do in end-game?? Repetitive, poorly managed PVP and constant dungeon runs. NOW is when this game has risen to glory and will continue to rise. This game offers horizontal progression. Meaning, you want to do nothing except get to level 80 and frolic around the world aimlessly with no goals whatsoever??? GO FOR IT! No one is forcing you to do anything, nor reach any goals or objectives. Now as for the people who want to play the game and progress, that option is there. This isnt a single player game with no end game, “oh i beat the finakl boss, the game is done, ill log in once a year to reminisce”. Its a game that progresses and adds content, if not, then whats the point of even hiring a staff?

Guild wars 2 when it first came out was about the adventure. there were no grind walls, no boundaries holding you back, no time gates, or anything. you were free to do whatever you wanted in the game…literally.

You could get to max level doing whatever you wanted, without being forced to do anything else, black smiting, dungeons, pvp, wvw, or even just wandering around, exploring the world. You set your own goals, and objectives, with nothing to hold you back.

now kittens is different. this game reminds me so much of WoW now. i came to this game because it was different, because it wasn’t about grinding, or any other BS, it was about having fun. you could play the game any way you chose, and it would still be fun, but they’ve kinda screwed it up now since launch.

pvp for instance. every class is overloaded, and the only way to compete is to run what is strong at the time, not to run what you have the most fun with, and have sharpened your skills at. I get that there will always be a meta, but the way they’ve changed the game, everything meta is usually a huge exploit of something cheesy. tanky-condi classes, insane sustain- high damage, you name it. there is very little room for creative builds anymore, without the “NEED TO HAVE” condi cleanse, and even if you manage to make it work, most classes are just not fun to fight against anyway, because of their overloaded natures. so you gotta stick close to the meta to even survive.

perma-dodge thieves with that unclear counter play, condi mesmer with like 12 clones exploding on you at one time, and still somehow being able to be invulnerable, WHILE each clone does 1-2k dmg and applies 12 stacks over every condition on you, warrior mace classes who can 1 shot pretty much anyone with insane condi cleans cause they BOMB you with like 12 conditions, killing you in 1 hit unless you spec into some serious condi cleanse, rangers basically kiting you to death, then stealthing and healing to full, and giving you a thumbs up like lets start over, engineers with insane tank, and still insane damage, and sustain. all these classes have very little visible counter play. With an honest build, you cant afford 1 mistake, or you are dead. even if the classes are beatable, they are frustrating to play against hands down. Back when gw2 was first out, every class had very visible counter play, and it was more skill based than it is now, BY FAR. builds didn’t carry like they do now.

PVE is hands down, too kitten grindy. no joke…i cant stand to level a new character, because i’m stuck with like 2 abilities for like half the game…its infuriatingly boring in comparison to back when GW2 had stuck to their guns about being different, and not your average MMO grind fest. Why on earth they changed this to be so slow, and time consuming ill never know, but i’m guessing it was because of all the WoW cry outs who said GW2 was boring, and complained aobut everything, dungeons, pvp, wvw, all of it…it wasn’t boring, they are just so used to having someone hold thier hands through every part of every game. now its just filler, so you FEEL like you have something to do, and you don’t. pve leveling has never been this bad, getting hero points to do your story, waiting for entire days to craft ascended matts, it will take you an entire month to get a full set of ascended gear now because of time gates…and the dungeon finder…lol….so much for a social community. you don’t get people together anymore, you just pop in with them, and leave. no new friends to be made.

this game isn’t about exploration anymore. its about fractals, grinding, and cheesy builds. wvw is the only game mode that hasn’t lost its spirit yet…

For the dungeon tokens, there are PvP daily rooms for PvE people. Go do your PvP dailies in them with the Arah reward track selected and you’ll get the dungeon tokens. (You’ll need to have done the story line dungeon first). If you go right after reset each day there is usually PvE hosts who will kick out anyone who breaks the PvE friendly rules. Find a room that says daily and ask what the rules are as they are a bit different for each arena.

Hi there,

I’ve been playing Guild wars since Guild wars 1 was released and the same for Guild Wars 2. Because I am a mostly solo and casual player in GW2 I have not been able to do a lot of things in the game such as Fractals, Dungeons, crafting legendary’s & Ascended gear. This is just my feedback and opinion and it is not meant to step on anyone’s toes or grind anyone’s gears for reactions, this is just how I feel personally about a couple of things in game that are bothering me.

I really love GW2 as I love exploring and have completed the map fully on my main character (my Ranger). I am not a PVP person never have been never will be. When I did map completion you had to get the WVW maps as well which nearly killed me to do.

Anyway to the feedback part of this.

1. I am part way through crafting the Bi Frost and have crafted the experiment. Upon researching what was required to craft further I see I needed 500 Zhaitan marks and also a Gift of Battle. This has really put a dampener in my spirit because I suck at PVP and when I say I suck I mean I really suck. The Zhaitan marks I can most likely get after continuous grinding now that I have found a nice Guild of people to join after playing for 3 or so years. I am not too keen to do PVP to get this Gift of Battle and it has almost put me off continuing to try to craft the Bifrost now.

2. My second gripe is to do with the story mode and the NPC’s in the story with you. Now this is the same in HOT as well. I find them incredibly unresponsive when you are in the instance you will be getting fully attacked enemies in among-st you and the NPC’s and they just stand there doing nothing???? Not sure what happened to the amazing AI that was part of the GW1 experience? Sadly I find them no help at all and forgive the negative remark but they are utterly useless. I noticed they do not attack until an enemy actually hits them I do not think they are supposed to be this dopey? I did claw island with my new Thief last night and they just stood there while I had to fight off hordes of undead getting downed alot. This did not really make for a enjoyable playing experience to be honest and was quite stressful.

Well they are two most pressing things bothering me about the game right now and would just like to add I do love this game very much always have and I am sure you can make it better for us little solo-ists and explorers.

Thanks for your time.

If you’re having fun (without hurting the fun of others), you’re doing it right.

I think the first dungeon Story instance is level 30. Might be 35. Each dungeon has a Story path (which tells an ongoing tale of Destiny’s Edge as they go up in level) and several Explorable paths. The Explorables are the story of what happens in that dungeon right after the Story path is done, and any character you have that has done a Story can open the Explorable section of that dungeon. Or a member of your party can open it so you can join without having done Story. They stair-step up in level, so each 5 levels you get access to the next Story/Explorable of that Story in turn. The lowest level dungeon is Ascalon Catacombs in northern Plains of Ashford (Charr starter zone).

The Story paths are generally on the easier side, though you’ll still want a group. Just make sure when you advertise in LFG, if you are pugging, that you will be watching cinematics and not speed running. That way you can experience each path fully.

As to roles, the dungeons were designed to be doable by any mix of professions. Everyone brings something useful to the run; heals are mostly each player’s individual responsibility. Some dungeons do need the party spread out, eg one where four people stand in fire cages fighting off mobs while the fifth opens the next gate. Tanking isn’t a thing until you get into raids, just dps/support (buffs)/cc.

There is no “normal” quests with the ! over someone’s head. You find events (quests) as you move thru the world. They pop up and if you leave the area they go away. They are repeatable. Hearts are not repeatable in most of the world.
You get XP from pretty much everything – harvesting, raising a PC or NPC, exploring, doing hearts, doing events, etc. There is no right or wrong way to play. As long as you are having fun that’s all there is.

So I bought Guild wars 2 maybe 2 years ago….and while the game play and visuals were amazing I just couldn’t get into it, I didn’t see the trinity (healer, tank, dps) and there wasn’t quests leading me everywhere, so I dropped it.

I picked it up again a few days ago and got to lvl 19 and I’m having a blast, I see there are story quests but they are staggered 10,20,30 etc. I’m just playing through zones gathering hearts and such and doing the story quests when I get the appropriate level, is this the correct way of doing things? If so that’s pretty awesome…once I dropped that preconceived notion that the game needs to lead me, the game suddenly opened up and become much more fun, it felt much more natural.

What lvl is the first dungeon/grouped-instance? How do these play out does everyone just tank/dps/geal themselves?

Thanks in advance!

There’s indeed a huge contrast of quality and creativity between some male armors vs. their female counterparts. Just check :

  • Embroidered light armor : female = nice piece ; male = pajamas
  • Inquest light armor : female = nice revealing vest ; male = another pajamas
  • Whispers light armor : female = revealing ; male = pajamas
  • Winged armor : female = bra ; male = pajamas with rope
  • etc.

There’re far too many light armors that are mere pajamas tops for men while females have more diversity, more style… On the creativity topic, I’ve got far more possibilities with my female toons than male toons because of the “meh, just another pajama with a different pattern on it” look of most tops.

And I’m just talking about light armors ! (even if that icy outfit is just the same… Another pajama under the armor, while the female counterpart shows more skin)

So please ANet, just like other said, there’s no shame in a guy’s skin.

Excelsior!

Somewhere some farmers, a man and a woman, have a chat about random stuff and the male is always responding so passively annoyed. It’s the combination of the (German) dubbing of the guy and the context that made me wait for it to be played again.

Also, there are two male Charr in the water to fix something with ropes but fail and curse at each other.

This game has so much soul in its world compared to so-called AAA titles coughFF14cough it’s such a joy! In general, the German dubbing is great and uses many well-known voices. During the Meatoberfest that vendor is dissing that guy but the way they talk is hilarious

IMHO, this mission, along with the ‘avoid the guards’ mission with Demmi Beetlestone stand out to me as being refreshing breaks from the typical ‘chop people in half for laughs’ ones. I guess it gves a bit more flavour and insight into the motivations of the characters in the world?

Although they really could stand to place more Skip buttons on cutscenes. Lol.

If a clickable character bio ever became a thing, I think instead of using it as a bio, I would use it as a first impression thing:

“The asura female you see before you looks young, but she exudes experience. Her clothes are a bit worn, her weapons well taken care of, she definitely doesn’t stay in cities for long. She’s an adventurer.

You notice that she’s looking at you…"

Something like that.

+1 to that.

In fact, you could take it one stage further and have exactly as you say but have a bio as well. But then, as I said before, that could cause anal-ness

Incidentally, I didn’t get the chance to RP at all tonight. I’ve seen DR around the bank and a pub in Queensdale just outside the city are popular haunts for RP; where else is a good place to get involved?

As for the character biography: Warcraft has that as an add-on. Half of the biographies there are steamy descriptions of the character and a list of kinks the player has. The other half of them are long walls of text detailing every single tattoo, scar, dead relative, special weapon and pointless title that the character has. So few people use that add-on properly that it’s kind of a relief GW2 doesn’t have anything like it.

That’s a positive of the feature if you put a max character limit on it that enforces brevity but isn’t too short. When you run across stuff you don’t care for (steamy descriptions, kinks, etc.) you can stop reading right off the back. Describing tattoos, scars, dead relatives and special weapons or titles isn’t a bad thing considering it may be important to the motivations and backstory of the character. Which leads to another interesting point: discussing someone’s bio often can lead to critiques if they are willing. Granted, I usually only ever critiqued someone’s bio if they asked (outside of spelling and grammar errors) because you never know how they’ll take the criticism. But talking about and offering criticism of a character is accompanied with learning more about said character. They might tell you something interesting about their character that they couldn’t fit in the bio so you suggest they leave out talking about a specific character detail that isn’t as important (tattoos, scars, dead relatives, etc).

But the point of such a feature is to utilize as you see fit. If you want to advertise your guild, post the times you play, link your build, your aimed achievements, your characters kinks and steamy descriptions or a genuine short story your character is involved in, none of it is wrong or more proper than other uses.

Never played WoW but I have seen this elsewhere. It made me wonder if there was some huge back story that I’d missed or this particular person was extremely “important” in some way. Very anal. Perhaps there could be a character limit, say, 250? 500?

Anyway, I’m going to see how some RP pans out later – I’ve not really tried very hard up to this point so it could be a new angle to the game for me. However,I’ve just charmed a new pet I didn’t know existed so perhaps I’ll see what it can do first
