And… who cares? Giving new players the core as well in no way hurts me or affects my game play, with the possible exception of there being new players around. I’m not losing anything, I’m still gaining the expansion.
You are losing money. A lot of money.
Are you 12 years old or something? Fifty bucks is just a couple of lunches…
I’m 47 and employed. And for me, 50$ is half of my weekly grocery budget. That’s not an inconsiderable amount of money.
Not everyone has a great income or a income at all. Some people need to spend that money on necessities. Not to mention that some people are in countries where salaries are CONSIDERABLY lower than what you are apparently used to and that some people are students with the attendant budget restraints.
Darksyze, as my main is a meditation guardian I could give you plenty of advice on how to counter longbow rangers. If you would post your build (using gw2skills.net) I could give you some pointers. In fact, your best bet would of been to go to the guardian forums and open up a topic asking for advice on how to deal with longbow rangers, instead of requesting nerfs that will never happen.
The range is very easily negated through a Judge’s Intervention and Flashing Blade (sword teleport) or Leap of Faith (greatsword leap). Also, Flashing Blade/Leap of Faith blinds the target so there’s a chance the ranger will try to use Poing Blank Shot or Hunter’s Shot and miss.
If you can’t beat a longbow ranger after closing the gap either the issue lies with the build you’re using or simply the skill you have. In either case, I really doubt that 200 less range would help you in any way win the fight. Ask for advice, listen to the advice and apply it to your skill set. Asking for nerfs of a profession that beat you will in no way make you a better player.
This is the build i use: a heal build because that is what Guardian class is
http://www.gw2db.com/skill-builds/575-heal-guard
I do not have very high gear+accessories but i am almost there like: ascended.
I would like to try your meditation build and your advice
Well, that explains a lot…
Fault 1, the Guardian class is what you make of it. Since there is no primary healing meta in the game, nor tanking, you get to mix and match for your comfort.
Fault 2, The URL/Build you posted, it is dated 2012. Game has changed as did the supporting Guardian builds.
I’d seriously recommend going back to the Guardian form and spend more time there asking for help rather than telling this forum how OP they are. Heck, search for the healaway build, it is a good place to start. Most build off of that.
I understand and Thank You!
Crapgame: it is my duty like you to report problem to Arena net so they can investigate and do research. I am not telling this forum how Op they are but asking for make ranger class challenge. If Guardian class had same problem: i would report same to Arena net. I am not picking on ranger class like some player say i am: again i am just asking for Arena net to make ranger class challenge, that is all.
Every player experience is important in this game, as long they want challenge-risk+reward and fun.
If you see the same for Guardian class: i will not be angry at you or make you feel not important: because you are important like all of us player. We player are community- community help each other feel important, no matter differences. And also, not everyone experience in the community is same and we need to respect that. Just because you do not see a problem, do not mean there is not a problem. That is why it is important for Arena net to investigate and see if there is real problem and to give us player result from investigation so we will not get angry at each other for a long time
Example: it is like have 2 brothers/2 sisters arguing about how is right and who is wrong and than the parent step in and resolve it.
So just to be clear, you are going to completely disregard all of the players that have stated they have no problem beating a longbow ranger 1v1, you are going to ignore every argument rangers have made listing the counters that other classes can bring against the longbow, and you are just going to decide rangers have no challenge.
And your whole argument is based on the fact that rangers have no challenge beating you, a player who knowingly chooses to run a completely outdated, healing build, instead of running skills that would not only make you all around more useful but would also give you a huge advantage while fighting a ranger.
This is your argument…..
I guess this is not a bug but a fix of unintended functionality…
Right, mesmer is not a pet class, just a class whose base abilities do 20%+ less damage than the other classes and the entirety of their output in pve depends on PETS (phantasms).
Clearly an exploit!
I guess this is not a bug but a fix of unintended functionality…
No official comment in regards to all these concerns & certainly no time frame given…
Fine Job folks. Fine Job.
I’m aware there are potential “work arounds”
I didn’t break it….I’m not fixing it.
So when can we expect a fix for this?
We just experienced a bug about an hour ago where the enemy claimed our whole spvp team was invisible to them.
We did attempt to pre stealth for our opener…unsure if that caused it.
We could see ourselves the whole time….no stealth buff…could contest points.
Please fix.
It’s in the kitten name for crying out loud… RANGEr. Rangers should have greater range abilities, naturally, than any other class. As it is, we have to dedicate a lot to get that range as well as arrow speed. 2 separate traits needed to have something we should already have.
Is there a swing your weapon faster trait? No? Well, slower attacks then. Hold your shield tighter trait? No? Easier to bypass shield defenses. Learn to run with heavy armor trait? No? Run speed and gap closer range reduced by 25% and endurance recharges at -25%. (That would be two traits)
We get range and damage. Our job is to keep you away from us. Your job is to get to us. Every class has a way to do that, some have multiple. +300 is a joke. 1500 should be the base for the LB without the need for a trait slot.
As far as mobility options, I have a few for Ranger.
Traveler Runes- Not ideal stat wise, but you can’t number crunch the value of the added mobility. I’ve used these in sPvP when I don’t want to carry Signet of the Hunt. I don’t think I’d use them when I had actual communication, but there is value in being able to move independently. Rune of Speed is an alternative worth looking at as well.
Signet of the Hunt- For condi, it is less than ideal in the slot. The 150% damage can make Sword 2 or Dagger 5 hurt, but otherwise there isn’t a lot of use for the active for condi.
Nature’s Voice- You’re passing up an excellent trait in survival of the fittest, but for a condi build it isn’t unforgivable. The permanent regeneration is also good for 1v1’s and bunkering in general. Not the best option, but not unviable by any means.
Offhand Horn- I would probably give up the dagger (A/H, S/T) if I wasn’t using fire trap for burning off of the axe. Horn 4 + Rampage as One is an excellent source of might, and the 5 is really the only blast finisher we have (outside of Drakes). You need around 55% bonus duration and Offhand Training to get a 100% swiftness uptime, which is doable with points in BM and the right rune set.
High mobility has slightly better harmony with a power build, and condi does tend to be more bunker by virtue of being damage over time. Rangers do have a lot of built in evade from their weapons, so I’m not sure if there is a lot to complain about there. What I would like to see is a trait for +25% movespeed with an active pet, hopefully replacing Agility Training in Skirmishing. The tradeback of having to keep your pet alive is slight enough for this to be fair and balanced in my mind.
People will keep requesting nerfs, mainly because they’d rather moan and cry than learn and adapt. After all, the latter requires them to actually think and work for it. I find it funny that they want to nerf a class so badly that’s not even anywhere near the current top tier of play. It’s probably because they want their “free kill” back. Ranger is, after a long time, now in a decent place in the meta and bad players can’t handle that. Like I said, they’d rather moan and cry than l2p. That’s how bad players stay bad.
With the sale on GW2, the holiday season, and the Great MMO Migration contest, there’s been an influx of new players recently. As not all of them will be bold enough to post their questions here, and as there are a lot of good resources around (but scattered), I’ve decided to make this thread to help people get their footing.

Compiled from another gw2 forum before these came online, but some real gems in here
1. Purchase your gathering items asap. That’s a pick, an axe and a sickle that only cost a few copper and allow you to loot resource nodes.
2. There’s an option “melee targeting assistance” or similar that prohibits you from walking through enemies. It might be better to turn it off, depending on your preference.
3. Type in “/wiki” to open the GW2 wiki.
4. When playing on a foreign client you can instantly translate any game-text into English by pressing the right Ctrl button.
5. You can edit your own music into the game and have it play during different times as explained here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/c..._music_in_gw2/
6. Press the Cogwheel top right corner of your inventory
Press Deposit all collectibles to put all crafting materials into the bank. (which later can be accessed from the crafting UI from a workstation)
7. Press hide/show bags to make the inventory window into one big bag insted of seperate bags
8. Also, finish a zone 100% to get nice masterwork (green) loot and a black lion key. (all hearts, points of interrest, vistas and waypoints
9. Don’t delete your first character without first sending your backpack, goggles to your new char
10. After you finish a ? quest, go to the ? guy and check for gear upgrades, they usually sell great stuff
11. Be sure to save 10 silver for when you hit level 11, as you have to buy access to your traits
12. Don’t buy violet weapons from vendor in the Mists, it has no dps (its probably for WvWvW). Buy exotic orange weapons.
13. Trebuchet on Battle of Kyhlo is op, it deals 9-11k aoe dmg and you can rush it from start and shoot before enemies take first base (windmill/mansion).
14. Cannon on beach map can be used, you just need to carry cannonballs from nearby ship. It deals 5k aoe dmg and you can shoot both beach and docks with it )
15. Never run away once you’ve completed a Dynamic Event. Try to talk to the NPC’s around you are try to follow any of the conversations NPC’s may have. There may just be one or more events coming up within a minute or 2
16. The mails u receive when u complete a heart are not just mails….take the money inside
17. If you see a resource node don’t rush to it only you can mine it.
18. - you can join the Heart of the Mist by going in Hero – PvP – click Heart of the Mist icon in the top left
19. You can travel to every Capitals by going to Lion’s Arch (take the Asura Portal in any Capital)
20. You have the option “sell junk” in your bags (in the bottom right), it will automatically sell all useless non-salvageable crap.
21. Keybind your weapon swap (as a matter of fact, I suggest to keybind everything
22. I suggest to turn ON auto loot in the options (you just spam “F” when you zerg instead of looting every corpse)
23. You can adjust your mouse turning speed with the slider in the options.
24. EXPLORE EVERYTHING. I found an awesome jumping puzzle yesterday in Lion’s Arch. A dead pirate was messing with me all the time.
25. #1 ability is your auto-attack, so you don’t need to keep spamming it like I did…
26. Adjust your Camera rotation speed to very high to remove that sluggish feeling when you mouse turn
27. You don’t need the bank to access your bank items. Any crafting stations come with bank slots.
28. There are no mail boxes. You can send items away with a right-click, and collect them through upper menu bar.
29. There is a range indicator on your abilities. There’s a red bar below the skill if you’re out of range.
30. You can do every single crafting profession in the game. You can have two active at a time. It costs some coin to switch them out and the fee depends on how many recipes you have. You don’t lose the recipes you have when you switch.
31. DON’T pass up on a harvesting spot. It literally takes 2 seconds, it’s free XP, and you never know if you’ll want to take up a profession that uses it later… you can also sell the raw mats when the TP is up.
32. If you’re getting into areas with mobs that are too difficult, but you’ve done all the other events in that zone (happened to me around level 20), check out the other races’ areas! You get scaled down to match the levels in those zones and can do all of their quests and events while still earning XP and Gear to match your own level!
33. you don’t need to be there when an event ends in order to get credit for it..
34. stick around after a dynamic event, some npc’s turn into karma vendors, (just like haert vendors often do)
35. if you’re being chased by a ranged monster, you can use another monster(a neutral one like a boar would work well) to block the bullets, thereby angering the neutral monster and causing a fight between the two, letting you escape more easily
36. You can redye your armor on your hero page absolutely free.
37. You can /kneel in front of statues and idols to receive some short-term boons.
they need to do a rollback, just everything has gone wrong since the update
Hey,
After a good question turned into the usual fight between linux and windows acolytes, id like to pick up the question again. Will there be a client for linux in any way?
Greetings…
Reading through the bug forum, I’m honestly starting to wonder how many of you are playing with rigs that are at/below the minimum standard for the game.
The in-game bugs are all on A-net. Missing textures, broken voice prompts, and broken chat definitions are all behind the scenes things.
Having a less than 1GB download take 20 hours plus? That’s entirely on your internet package and ISP.
Having the game not start when the patch has been implemented? That screams bad file structure – which implies something changed your directory structure – ie: sweetfx of some such thing.
BSOD – that one is entirely on you. Generally (90% + of the time) it would be a hardware problem. Do you have a bad RAM module? Do you even know how to check? Is your videocard/CPU bleeding heat properly? Again, do you even know how to check? Have you overclocked beyond the hardware’s ability to cope? Is the inside of your PC clean enough to lose the excess heat?
Seriously – there are a slew of software bugs, but a large chunk of what is currently in the bug forum is nothing but PEBKAC.
