I am a Toy

My name is Clawfford. I am a Toy.

More precisely, I am a soldier of the Toy Legion. I report to my Tribune, Toymaker Tixx.

During the last Wintersday festival, Tribune Tixx took his flagship on a massive campaign covering the regions of Tyria outside our sphere of influence. Toys infiltrated the capital cities of the Humans, Charr, Asura, Sylvari, and Norn. The instructions were to integrate our kind deeply into their societies, and find people to love and care for us. The goal: become Tyria’s most influential power.

Tixx’s operation succeeded. Many Toys found loving homes, and the rest returned on the flagship to try again next year. Now the people of Tyria cry out for Tixx’s return. But when the campaign was analyzed, it was discovered that not all of the Toys left behind had found a proper home. Were they taken against their will? Did they desert the Legion? Did they simply not make it back to the flagship in time?

This is where I come in. The Tribune created me to round up the missing before Wintersday. The manner of my construction allows me to only operate at night, in order to avoid detection as much as possible. I become an inanimate Toy in full daylight, so I will need to garner assistance from any natives I encounter who seem trustworthy.

This is going to be tricky. Toys are known to wind up in the strangest places, so that is where I will have to look. But if I succeed, the Tribune has promised that he’ll alter me so that I can function in the daytime as well. Armed with a bag full of doll-tectors, I head out for my first destination: the Humans of Divinity’s Reach.

I think the OP either has a bizarre concept of ‘winning’… or of ‘paying’.

Not sure which, but the entire premise of the thread is kind of ludicrous.

But adding tiers of gear is no progression. If you get killed during an encounter you should revise your overall approach, skill use and tactics. Just equipping a more powerful item doesn’t make you a better player. It doesn’t add any depth or value to the game.

It’s not because you traded your Citroën for a Porsche that you are now a better driver.

Thank you Kirsten
Always great to hear from you

Since I can’t draw
I will just leave some suggestions for flowery vines:
Star Jasmine
Granadilla vine
Morning Glory

For long trailing flowers maybe something like Wisteria?

Hehe, Star Jasmine and Morning Glory are drawings I started for sylvari just after Kirsten presented the redesign before beta.
Also tackled a butterfly bush. (Not sure on it’s scientific name only that my mother used to grow them when I was a child back 30 odd years ago.) They are a purple flower that grows in bunches, a “bunch” would rather suit a 1950s/1960s style beehive or afro.

I would totally support the use of granadilla or wisteria…. Maybe I should draw more sylvari.

The problem with a CDI forum is the Devs will certainly know the threads exist (no matter where they are…), but many of the players won’t.

We’ve had a couple requests for what CDI means just in this thread. Imagine how many people will never show up at all because its in a sub-forum with a mysterious naming scheme.

I think the threads need to be right where they are – square in the path of day-to-day traffic for the topic category they relate to.

I thought it was kinda funny, silly and a little bit embarrassing. I don’t see what’s the big deal about it and why anybody would be so negative about it. It was kinda clear already that AN are not afraid of making fun of themselves or their game, or of having fun with it, for that matter.

So lvl 90 coming soon?

I hope they will never add level 90. It would be completely pointless in every way. If there is new high level content planned, it should be lvl 80. They already use multiple ways of making the content more or less difficult.

Here is the data you requested:

PvE Request for Topics Results

2 Ascended Gear/Ascended Items
3 Class Balance

WvW Request for Topics Results

3 Commander (functionality, system, tag)

PvP Request for Topics Results

3 Build Diversity

((Cracks knuckles)) I have nine 80s… Believe that I have a few thoughts on the ascended gear acquisition process!

I don’t have a commander tag, but I do follow one around for a couple hours each week. I’m looking forward to hearing more about that and maybe finding a way to get one other than spending the coin I rarely allow to build up to 100g (see the care and feeding of nine 80s, above…).

I think it would be interesting if class balance and build diversity were somehow linked – either sequentially or running side-by-side. They are closely related topics. I actually rather approve of the minimal split between skill behaviors in different modes, but it puts a very high level of onus on the designers to seek equitable solutions for all 8 of the professions. Before throwing around solutions, I plan to have some very revealing questions to ask in those threads…

Not a match for my own list of 3 back during the poll, but certainly some things I think the community can sink their teeth into .

Dueling is an excellent way to increase your PvP skills and I heartily recommend it. However, the ability to duel is already in-game; the only thing missing is the ability to challenge random players in the open world.

It’s kinda like IRL where you have martial arts studios available to anyone who wants to train, but you wouldn’t challenge random people to fight on the way to the studio. Ideally, GW2 would model RL in this way—and currently does. Adding this to GW2 would be horrible in terms of game culture.

There are too many of us who remember Gold Shire. The type of community this encourages is the type of competitive community that enjoys trolling. Not everybody but enough people to allow me to make the statement.

Anet created a game with basically non-competitive PvE. They made a SHARP demarcation between PvP and PvE. There’s no PvP in the open world for a reason. It was a design decison.

Now a percentage of people want to change that decision. They want to bring PvP to the open world. Every single game that mixes these two things, no matter what, ends up with one group of players calling the other group of players care bears.

The type of people who want this are, by and large, not the people I want to play with. I signed up for a game with cooperative PvE. One where you couldn’t steal nodes. It’s not the feature itself that’s a problem, it’s the type of environment and attitude that feature breeds.

Games train people how to play them. If you put in a rez where everyone can rez you, you’ll have more of a chance of being rezzed by someone. If you put in PvP into a PvE environment, you risk changing the entire environment.

That’s the problem in a nutshell.

One of the reasons I hated Rift was because, even though you could turn it off, PvP was allowed in the open world.

I guarantee you people will find ways to grief other people with it.

FYI if we go with the next topics from the initial call for topics threads (Global) then they are as follows:

PVE: Ascended Gear
PvP: Rewards and Progression
WvW: Skill Lag

These are all pretty focused topics which means we will be able to enter into the discussions more readily in terms of time. The bigger the topic the more divergent the discussions and this makes it harder for us to give them our full attention.

Chris

I like these and looking forward to discuss them. Especialy ascended gear. I am very happy we can talk about it with you.

Gamble Or Grind?

I’d work on everything but the precusor, because all that will take time. You’ll still need mystic clovers, and T6 mats and whatever else you’d need for each weapon. The precusor is only one part of it.

If you work on the other stuff first, by the time the alternate method to get them comes out, the price should come down.

What if Ascended Gears was reversed?

I would love to see ascended gear changed in the following way:

1. Same stats as exotic, only difference is they have two upgrade slots (one for infusions, one for runes).

2. Defensive and offensive infusions removed from the game (materials / tokens refunded).

3. Idiotic number-grind mechanic (agony) removed from the game.

4. New infusions introduced that simply add a visual effect to the weapon or armour they are placed on (ex., fire / lightning / poison / smoke / frost / blood / etc.)

I think any competent player would gladly trade the slight stat advantage that ascended gear has (which you don’t really need, if you know how to play – and which just makes it harder for the developers to balance the game content) for the ability to customize the visual effects on his or her gear.

If only these forums allowed us to post polls…

Another thing they could do is maybe have certain bosses not just appear in one zone and in the same place. Why can’t the MAW or Shatterer event happen in any zone that is relevant to them. Why is the Shatterer restricted to Blazeridge. Is he blocked from Fireheart Rise. After the Shaman is defeated in Wayfarer’s, why not try it in Frostgorge? Spread the love! LOL

I personally would be happy if they got rid of them, even though I have all ascended stuff already. Just compensate by giving us gold for each ascended piece.

Don’t focus the game so much on getting ‘stuff’. Make it about /doing/ stuff. You probably won’t have as many players, but you’ll have better ones.

Different classes/builds vs Ascended

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lord Kuru.3685

Lord Kuru.3685

I don’t think a lot of player build experiment. They would look up on forums the most efficient build, tweak it a bit to their liking, and then stick to it.

Ascended don’t discourage builds/classes as you still have exotics.

Even if this were true (I personally believe the power creep of Ascended gear will force content to become harder, thus pretty much forcing people to use Ascended gear) people (psychologically) just don’t like to “downgrade” their gear stats from Ascended to exotic, thus discouraging playing with a variety of builds.

You would think that the more alts people play, the more builds people play, the longer it takes for them to get bored of the game. And so you would think Anet would encourage people to play more alts and experiment with more builds. Oh well.

Different classes/builds vs Ascended

Even when developers and designers created 8 unique classes, right now there’s no reason to play more than one.
And even when there are a lot of different stats and weapons a class can use, there’s no reason to play more than just one build.

Why? Because of how time and gold (but specially time) consuming it is to get the best in slot gear.

And I wouldn’t complain if it wasn’t because if this: it didn’t use to be like this, this is not what Anet promised, and exotic gear was the complete opposite.

So, what’s the solution for those who wanna play different classes and builds having the highest stats available?

Here is your current option:
1. Choose a class.
2. Choose between dungeons/fractals, PvE, WvW zerging, roaming.
3. Farm a set of armor, weapons and trinkets for that game aspect you like.
4. Ignore all the rest of the game.*
5. Have fun.

*If you don’t follow #4 you might end up joining speed runs with a full PVT hammer guardian, or running with a zerg trying to tag enemies with a scepter/torch rabbid mesmer.

I would be all for the removal of ascended gear. That’s with 4 back pieces (3 infused), 8 accessories, 7 weapons, and a bank tab of rings. AR should have been implemented by adding infusion slots to existing gear.

I also refused to spend cash for gems until either ascended is removed, or full ascended is available from all of the same sources as exotics. And each source needs to be similar in effort (40 laurels+50 ectos is nowhere close to 12 commendations+5g).

They could also implement asinine grind for cosmetics instead of stats.
Specific dungeon titles for 10/20/50k dungeon tokens.
The new TA skins were added with lame RNG. They could have been craftable using 10 Gift of Thorns+collecting corrupted branches from each end boss.
Have world bosses drop special account bound items to combine with other bosses’ special drops and other materials to create some skins.

Many ways to reward doing specific content without resorting to vertical progression, gold giveaways, or horrifically rare RNG.

I’d prefer anet make it easy to get ascended gear (across all activities) and stick with their original promise of having a cosmetic grind only.
