im at 2,380 hours and i have 16 gold in my bank.
Anet has said several times that they will not port to PS4 or any other console for that matter.
The most obvious reason being their frequent game updates.
They will instead focus on PC, which gives them the freedom to ship a new built whenever they need toWhile I have little doubt we’ll never see a PS4 version of GW2, I dont see the logic of your reasoning. An MMO is always online. You cant play without updating. Why would frequent updates be an issue on PS4?
It’s not so much a matter of hardware as pure ugly bureaucracy. The update problem is that console manufacturers exercise an iron grip on anything that passes through their services. Everything must go through stringent code review, leading to sizable delays and costs to the developer/publisher for every update. That’s why console versions generally get fewer and much later updates than PC versions. ArenaNet often responds to major bugs in hours, not weeks, which just would not be possible with the degree of bureaucracy bogging down those architectures. While Sony undoubtedly alleviates much of that red tape for their own suite of MMOs, I doubt they’d do the same for ArenaNet.
Guys do find female Sylvari attractive, I often get dirty whispers about my butt. o_o
If it was from a Charr who called it “apple shaped”, I apologize.
Poor Tybalt just loves apples and things that remind him of them.
Fine T stones are 5/200 which is $2.50 USD or 50 cents apiece. The sets of 10 are 45 cents each. Now, a coke costs how much? Or a pizza? How many spend $2.50 on junk or trivial stuff on a daily basis and don’t even consider it. And when you consider you can get it partially or completely for free, it’s hardly something to worry about.

Sure because I buy them with cash.
LOL unlike the OP, I actually looking forward to a sub based MMO. Why? you may asked. It is because like a lot of people I am sick of all the so called free to play MMO. I always end up spending more money than I am on a sub based MMO. Also I am sick of the RNG and P2W rubbish.
As far as GW2 goes, it is fairly good value for money. Sadly, maybe because it has no sub, Anet don’t seem to be able to afford to make an expansion like a sub based MMO lile WoW which has just announce yet another expansion. Something that no doubt will help them to bring back a lot of old players and new alike.
As far as B2P, I think only Ever Quest Next is following that model. Every other new MMOs are either sub or f2p.
I’d rather pay monthly for a really good game aswell.
I’ll say this… after GW2, it had better be one hell of a game to come out to convince me to cough up a subscription. I’m going to want a static-quest hub free world, amazing combat, continual content updates, back rubs, free sandwiches coming out of my computer, you name it. I don’t see how anyone now can compete with ArenaNet for quality and quantity to such a greater degree that a subscription could be considered warranted.
I’m in with the Sylvari Antagonist…
But I’m not with plant-themed stuff.
For any race, there are thousands of possibillities with clothing…
For Sylvari who want to stick to their leafs in clothing and weaponing there isn’t so much choice. 4 sets for each armorclass. Every other race has A LOT more!
Only a few weapons, and yet there are only 3 Fitting backpieces, and SADLY they’re not even dyeable.
There are only 2 townclothes for Sylvari, the Standard one and the cooker’s Outfit… Compared to all the other stuff… that’s NOTHING.
So stop whining and make your choice out of what you have, and that’s more than 5 times more of a choice than Sylvari Players have.
Some pics for the masses.
I agree. I enjoy the look of this game so much that I often park my character in a favorite spot while I’m doing work or reading. Kinda like a living screen saver.
So my wife has never played a MMO before. In fact, other than some card games and Bejeweled, she has never played any video games. But she knows our daughter plays this game a lot (as do I) so she wanted to try GW2. So while I was standing behind her watching her learn to play GW2, trying to run around and whack bad guys and such, I caught myself remarking to myself “what a beautiful game”. And it really is. So there is no real point to this post other than to relate that event and let ANet know you done good (and maybe take a little of the edge off of the negativity on these forums).
on behalf of all those people who kept asking for infinite gathering tools to be made account bound I would like to say thank you anet(saw enough of these in the suggestions forum). I personally never paid for any but I hope this pleases your customers and gets you a bit more money in the form of people being willing to buy more varied gathering tool looks for their different characters.

I’ve never been a fan of subscription fees. Not to mention, I rarely enjoyed the games anywhere near as much as I enjoyed GW1. If I wanted to read a story, I’d just go grab a kitten book.
As for the complaints about spending more in micro-transactions than in sub fees… learn self control I guess. There is nothing in the shop that is necessary to play, not in the slightest. You choose to spend money in the shop, because you like something and find throwing cash at the game easier. You could have just as easily farmed the gold, converted that to gems, and purchased the shop items that way. Other games have shops in addition to their sub fees, some of which contain items that are very much needed for continued play. I have a hard time believing some of you have never thrown money into those shops, if you do so willingly for this game, which means you willing paid a sub fee for another game and spent money in their shop. Seems like double dipping to me….
Before I got GW2, I I came from a ‘free to play’ game. Free to play yes….but pay to win.
Buying this game was worth every single penny. I’ve never played a sub game, but I could never go back to another cashshop mmo. I’m spoiled by the balance in this game.
I can happily choose how much I want to pay for GW2, when I feel like it. No required subscription, and no gameplay mechanic that enforces the need for cashshop? Yes please.
600 gems is a bargain compared to getting a ticket yourself. Trust me, some people literally begged Anet for this at a suggested gem price of 2000 gems.
This is, especially considering their quality and popularity (and anet’s previous extortianist gambling RNG #%^*%# track record) truly a bargain. It’s a giant leap in the right direction. I very much applaud it.
Would be nice to see some GW1 Hairstyles and Skin replicas :P
Could we get some of those ? : )
Here’s an idea:
You should have allowed the players to lift the illusion around the tower.
Here’s how it would work:
The illusion around the tower responds to certain spells or attacks, but only with a cooperative effort of dozens of players, can the illusion be lifted. You don’t tell the players how to do it, you just let them figure it out for themselves.
It is far more engaging to get the players involved, and have them be the heroes, then to have an npc lift the illusion for them in a cut scene (This once again enforces this idea that the npc’s in the game have powers that the players do not have).
Lifting the curtain would be server-specific. In other words, each server has to organize and do it individually. Don’t tell us how to do it on the website, and don’t tell us what’s inside. Allow us to discover it for ourselves, but get us involved! Allow the players to do these epic things together.

Compared to what we’ve been seeing with the only way to get special weapon skins being to buy BLTC keys this is much more financially reasonable. I would rather pay 600 gems and get to choose which weapon I want than 125 gems for a rare chance to get the skin. There are some who say the odds are 1 in 50 for a weapon ticket in the BLTC.
Maybe it’s all in what you compare to — you’re comparing what other games charge for a skin, while I’m comparing what players in GW2 have spent to get the skins in the past. But, personally I’m glad to see that we can buy these even at 600 gems.

When GW2 was released I bought 2 copies … one for myself and one for my son. He was 9 at the time but had already taken an interest into PC games like Minecraft and Roblox so I felt it would be a good opportunity to enjoy something together. I felt the lack of trinity roles would be easier for him since he would not be under so much pressure from other players to perform specific duties like “healer” or “tank”.
It has taught him typing skills, math skills, hand eye coordination, how to work groups to achieve goals, how to manage his time (since we use a token rewards system which helps regulate how much screen time he can have, proper online etiquette, and much more. All this is huge considering he was diagnosed with autism at a very young age and has been working on his social skills ever since. I don’t attribute all his success to GW2 but it certainly has played a part.
Interestingly enough he has become quite the competent player. He mains a necro but has tried nearly all the professions, has completed Mad Kings Clock Tower and many other jumping puzzles, plays sPvP and WvW, organized and run dungeons, soloed most of his story quests and other LS content. He can get competitive at times but if he gets out line I just reel him in. I’d like to think his exposure here has had a profound impact on his interest in technology – he thinks computers are cool and envies his father that gets to spend all day working with them (developer). The other day I came home and found him trying to brute force hack my router so he could add his IP in order to run his own Minecraft server lol. He’s a chip off the old block.
Ultimately OP you should know your child best in terms of their capabilities, but I would say GW2 is among the safest and kid-friendliest games out there.
My son is ten, has his own account.
Be warned.
Tybalt made him cry a little.
One of my guildmates plays the game with his 10 year old son….and I think it’s a great father/son activity.
But you’re the parent, it is up to you to decide.
Ascended Gear was implemented (if I am correct on this) for those of us without a spare 520 USD to drop on the Gem to Gold Conversion system so that we would have enough to buy a Legendary Weapon.
Ascended gear was implemented because exotics were a joke. Within the first month, even the first week of the game, “dedicated players” (what ArenaNet called them), exhausted the game’s content, had full exotics and were left with nothing to do.
And? The first ascended weapon i saw was three days after implementation (crafted. Those from drops were being shown in LA on day one). And i am pretty sure there were people that did it even faster. The so called “dedicated” players (so called, because they are not really any more dedicated to GW2 than many other players that do not blow through content in days) cannot be used as a baseline for content, because doing that makes sure that 99% of the players will get kittened by it. And the people the content was designed for will do it much, much faster than designed anyway. As it happened in this case.
And the exotics weren’t a joke. They were a good implementation of the original plan of people being able to acquire best stat gear as soon as they hit level 80. In fact, they were a bit harder to get than in the original design idea.

I let my 9 year old play. Some of you may have followed his commander tag at the temples on Blackgate. He is also a master at jumping puzzles. I let him play it since he had an interest in it.
It has taught him how to type when he needs to tell me something in game. He has learned the value of currency, which is hard to teach kids. He used to spend all his gold but now saves. He had to learn to read better.
He does well at it and has fun. Ironically, he has the same complaints many people on the forum do. He can handle it. He gets to see colorful language many times. But asa father, I’d rather teach him how to deal with different distractions in the world rather than hid them from him. How to integrate games with school and life (he gets all A’s or doesn’t play…bribery!).
Having said that, I wouldn’t let my younger one near it, likely not even when he is the same age. They are all different. So if you think your son/daughter would handle what they experience, give it a shot. I find it is better to let them try and fail so they understand why you say no.
I love that staff… It will look amazing on my mesmer and I’m going to buy gems for it tonight.
