There’s no need for an initial rough play-through because unlike a lot of games (single-player RPGs in particular) you can’t really do anything wrong while levelling up.
You will eventually get enough skill points to unlock every single skill and you can re-do your traits and equipment at any time* so even if you do make a bad choice, or change your mind on what build you want, you don’t need to start over. A lot of the content is repeatable and the stuff that isn’t you’ll only complete if you do it right so nothing to worry about there either.
*Before anyone corrects me on this I’m aware you have to go to a retrainer in a city to change your traits. When I say you can do it at any time I just mean you don’t have to wait until you’re a certain level, or do a special quest to unlock the option or whatever and you’re not limited to a few uses.
The only reasons I can see for your first character to reach 80 not being your main are if you change your mind on what profession you want to play, or if you find one more fun to play in open-world PvE and so level them faster but find you want to use another one as your main for other aspects of the game.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Zero.
The traits and skills are getting changed too drastically, killing specs and bringing about new overpowered cookie cutter builds. Also with the prospect of new skills being added just makes it less feasible to lock myself in to one gearset.
There is seriously no point to get ascended just to have your spec killed before you finish getting your gear.
It takes too long, is too expensive, does not solve the problem of filling the time gap between Exotic and Legendary since it uses the same mats as Legendaries you’re literally just elongating your grind by making ascended.
In short, it’s another thing that feels like it was only added to keep people grinding longer, not to actually benefit the player.

:/ Why do people want torches on thieves…
I want greatswords (katana/ninja like fighting), rifle(sniper like, long range)
:D but I can totally see them giving us the torches.Warrior needs to have ALL the weapons…

I strongly recommend the Logitech G600. I’ve been using it for months now and it is amazing with Gw2. When I bought it, it was like 70 ish dollars, so you could imagine how happy/sad I am that they are selling it for 50 on ebay http://bit.ly/1jzeEYX You should definitely go for it.
None. It’s nothing more than the laughable grinding nonsense of so many other MMO’s, the same ones I avoided and hoped to continue avoiding by coming to this one.
The more elements this game has in common with those “other” MMO’s the less reasons I have to stay. If I’m going to grind for gear, it might as well be in games tailor made for that type of content that do it much better.
I agree. That’s one of the things I don’t understand about ascended gear. Why do we have it?
In other games with vertical progression, you need better gear to be able to complete the next tier of content. The progression had a purpose. It wasn’t even that hard to decide what gear to get for your character, as most people were either DPS, tank or healer.
In GW2, there’s no purpose to ascended gear as I see it. We really don’t need any better gear than exotics, except maybe for fractals, but fractals are such a small part of this game. Why make ascended gear a part of regular PvE, dungeons and WvW?
Especially in WvW where every % counts. Despite what some might say, and how small of an increase each part gives, someone in full ascended will have a decent advantage over someone in all excotics. It goes against the whole concept of putting players at an equal playingfield. Spend hundreds of gold on crafting or be left behind!
One of the things I liked about GW1 was how many different builds you could make, how easy it was to change between them and how you could make a group with good synergy to beat difficult content. Different content might require a different group setup, but it was no problem for the group members to change their builds.
Exotics in GW2 aren’t too easy to get, imo. It makes it relatively easy to change individual builds and group compositions if needed, but we need several armour sets for that. Gearing a character up in several sets of exotics can cost quite a bit. With ascended gear and how costly and time consuming it is to get, it basically locks your character into one build.
I’m confused as to which direction Anet is taking with this. If Anet ever releases harder content, will they make it harder by requiring better group synergy from the players and their builds, or harder because we need ascended gear?
If the former, why did they implement ascended gear? It makes it much harder, if not impossible, to change your build for different content. Very few people will have several sets of ascended gear to choose between.
If the latter, ascended gear isn’t even that much better than exotics. Like several people have said before, it just locks us into one build, so what’s the point? Will they give us agony in regular content as well?
All I can think of is that it’s just to keep us occupied and play the game longer. Easier to make us grind time gated mats for months, rather than make some meaningful(permanent?) content, yea?
In my culture it is considered exceedingly immoral to wear clothes that do not show any underboob. In fact, it is generally understood that it is most moral for women to wear no upper clothes at all, as to do otherwise would demonstrate disrespect and dishonesty for the female form.
I’m sorry, but I’m afraid that unless we make all armor-sets conform to my notions of what is acceptable and what isn’t, then I can no longer support Anet.
Please make sure your responses agree with me, or I will call them uncivil and off-topic.
The following picture shows my ideas for a moral, happy, and topless Tyria.
Thanks.

Why is this up again? There is nothing wrong with that armor set and asking for a change because of personal ideals of a single person is not an option. (Yes they are just your personal feelings, not the be all end all truth)
Ask for more armor, not changes to those already there.

They’ve already closed at least one other thread.
It all boils down to the fact that because you’re unhappy doesn’t mean everyone else is.

The grand irony of the situation is that if there weren’t any ascended gear at all, there wouldn’t be an “issue” that needs solving.
The only bright side to next year and beyond is that they’ve officially run out of things to make stupid ascended versions of. Well, except aqua breathers.
Some people really enjoy acquiring new and more powerful gear, and some people don’t. The problem is that the people who do can get that satisfaction from literally any other MMO, whereas the people who don’t came here hoping they wouldn’t have to endure that thinly-veiled hamster wheel tactic to keep them playing.
Increase lvl cap probably equates to increase chance of me quitting :P
Horizontal progression please. I don’t want all my gear made worthless each time there’s a level increase.
More skills, more traits, more zones.

Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
Someone had spoke how there was not any “tasteful” skimpy female armor that wasn’t t3 so here are some alternatives that I had made and considered for my own thief and ranger, though I won’t show the armor set I am going to use since it uses said t3 armor top that the person did not like. They had suggested that Anet make another set less provocative and to be honest it wouldn’t surprise me if Anet did at some point make another set of cultural armor to strive for. Also, even though said person doesn’t seem to like the trenchcoat look the magitech one can look quite elegant and even skimpy of sorts if put together right, the bottom pick (only changes I made to it were no shoulder and aetherblade gloves (which I would dye limonite too)).
Dyes used on various sets were: Blacklight, limonite, blood dye, illumination, and midnight ice.

Videogames that show violence of a slightly more graphic nature towards fantasy character and/or non graphic violence towards human-looking characters or recognisable animals, as well as videogames that show nudity of a slightly more graphic nature would fall in this age category.
Showing underboob is hardly a nudity.
“Just because I don’t like doing it, others shouldn’t have fun doing it either.” Makes sense.
You can have all the fun you want, I couldn’t care less about that, but inflation affects me and guess where is all that gold coming from.
Sure trains shouldn’t disappear, is a relaxing activity for those who wanna play in easy mode. The problem is that the easiest activity in the game shouldn’t be the most rewarding.
She’ll spoil Wintersday and we’ll be fighting a Molten Princess Doll alliance. Or Toxic Tixx’s Toys. Or Plush Aethergriffons.
ANET should look at how Turbine encourage people to purchase their cash shop currency, by introducing more bonus (currency) for more cash shop currency purchased…
e.g .:
800gems —-— get bonus extra 10% gems —> 880 gems
1600gems --—- get bonus extra 15% gems —>1840gems
3200gems --—- get bonus extra 20% gems —->3840gems
etc
etc….
I really hope not. Ever. That punishes the people who cannot afford huge purchases and makes those who can least afford it pay more for each gem. On the other hand, it may also delay the purchase in some cases, because they cannot afford the bundle until next payday.
What I would prefer changed is the amount of gems one must purchase each time. I would love to see then go in 100 gem intervals (even if they started at 800). If I want to buy a 1000 gem thing, I really don’t like having to buy 1600 gems to get it.
I remember when they first introduced ascendant equip, and when I saw just how much grind I needed to make backpack, I was considering quitting game. And I also remember part of reason why they introduced it.
There were masses of people complaining how they got to 80, got geared up and they didn’t know what to do next. It was mostly WoW minded bots who got used to gear progression.
Just this morning I crafted my second ascendant weapon and it costed me about 40g and lots of grinding materials. So for those who don’t know just how much 40g is in GW2 world, I’d say I never played game that charged me this much for one piece of equipment.
Now before introduction of ascendant gear, I thought GW2 had best gear system of all time. Not only u had option to get equipment on numerous ways (dungeons, karma, crafting, drops, from tp, wvw…) but also u had plenty of looks to choose from. Exotic is in my opinion the best possible gear system of all times.
It was easy to access, it wasn’t boring because u could get it on different ways. It was so great I geared 7 alts fully exotic, and my main had 4 different sets. It was great for experimenting builds.
Ascendant killed all of that. No more experimenting, no more easy relaxing game play. U enter in bot mode and go grind champions. 40g for one weapon + grind materials for one weapon is insane. For same amount i could equip 2 characters with exotics.
I play gw2 mostly to check new updates now. I’m also disappointed with content updates. Last 4 updates included:
- halloween ( same exact event from last year) – no new content
- toxic – one event content
- toxic 2 – 5 minute dungeon content
- fractal – one new fractal
8 weeks we had one event, one mini dungeon and one fractal. They are masking content in achievement check box and gear progression. I hope things get better cause I enjoyed this game year ago.
There are plenty of alternative looks achieved with mixing and matching.
Regardless of how you feel about it, you cannot just go and ask them to change the art of an established armorset because you don’t like it. Tons of other people do, and it’s not fair to put all of their gold and gems to waste for your personal taste. Ask for more armor, not a redesign.
I, for one, don’t find it tasteless. I like the design. If you want tasteless, check out the 30g bra for Scholars.

Now to watch the backlash of all the people who are going to rage about their purchases…. lets get the popcorn.
It seems very funny to you?
Hilarious actually.

Maybe, the model that ‘worked so good’ for GW1, was working because GW1 was a much smaller game, and a different kind of game. Maybe, having used that model before, ArenaNet has information (that we do not) indicating that model would not work so well with GW2. Maybe, as a compromise, they included the ‘gold-to-gem’ transaction method as a way to ‘marry’ the two. Maybe, they have a long-term plan we know nothing about. Maybe, as experienced game developers, they know more about the whole subject than we do.
Maybe, ….just maybe.
They need to re-order the set up of the gem store so that they can have a larger inventory presented in a less-cluttered manner (as in, not having weapon, armor, and town clothes skins all in the same “barrel”).
I agree, I just think as the gem store is set up right now they’re making it difficult to KEEP many things in the store and get them viewed and sold. It would HELP them sell things if it was better organised since it would have more options easily viewable to potential buyers.
Why? Because the Gem Store has almost zero weapon skins. These are the only few that you can outright buy without the gamble boxes. You introduce these and then get rid of them.
I have never played a game of this type that brought in so many things just to get rid of them.
Sure, they may come back down the road somewhere…but one can never assume anything not set in stone to be true.
Point I’m trying to make, stop taking away the items and/or content you introduce. I personally am getting tired of it. From comments I’ve read in other threads on this forum and many others, I am not alone in this view.
If you remove items from the Gem store, maybe you should think about putting them in game somewhere.
I put aoe loot on my J key and reflexively tap J anytime something seems to be dying near me. I don’t have to see the bags to get them.
I wish they would move Champion Farming to a different zone. I have literally met new players, with level 16+ toons, who didn’t want to leave Queensdale and experience the rest of PvE. I’ve also seen guilds start up just for farming Queensdale.
I wish it is was moved to a 15-25, or 25-35 zone so players have an incentive to explore the rest of the game. Gendarran Fields is a great candidate because any race can access it by porting to Lion’s arch.
I still think Queensdale should still have an event train though. In fact, all the starting areas should. It was really convenient to be able to WP back to Queensdale if I ever became underleveled. But a starting zone shouldn’t have 5 Champions like Queensdale does now.
TL/DR: Move Champ Farming to Gendarran Fields. Replace Champion train with different event chain for low-level toons.
