[PvX] Feedback 8/8 Skill Bar - Warrior

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Sykper.6583

Sykper.6583

Overall Impression: Good Start.

…There ya go, that’s the short version. But I reckon that you might want some more detail right? Well fine, I suppose I best be getting into it then.

Adrenaline Change:
- About time. Let’s be honest, there needed to be some sort of penalty involved for any profession utilizing their trademark capability. For the longest time we Warriors…really did not have a penalty, and I think the Adrenaline loss when missing a burst skill is the PERFECT counter-play to our twin mechanics on short cool-down. Having our Burst Cool-downs extend upon a miss would have caused too much disturbance in how we fight, Adrenaline diminishing will give us a flow and still yield the same effect if we intend on saving for the full adrenaline burst.

In other words, there is now consequences with our choice. Superb.

Traits:
- Rousing Resilience, unfortunately shares the same trait-line as Cleansing Ire and Dogged March, and level as Defy Pain. Still, it’s good to have options? I digress, there is a far more happier change I am interested in.

- Brawler’s Recovery, removes a single condition on weapon swap as opposed to just blind. When I read that a single norn tear was shed, as there was finally some branching options outside of Defense-Tree traits for dealing with conditions. Coupled with the fact that Adrenaline’s nerf indirectly hurts CI (You would be surprised to find out how hard it will be to regain those three bars during the cool-down after you miss your <insert non-longbow burst skill here>). This means that Arena-net acknowledges that there is not enough condi-clear in the other lines to help expand the warrior options VIABLY in any PvP setting. I could not think of a better trait to start with, now let’s come up with a viable way to make that 30 / 6 into Arms viable…

Weapons:
- Rifle: With the adrenaline change, the power-level associated with many warrior weapons was nerfed to some regard. …Which is the perfect time to re-tweak a very gimmick-laden weapon into something with potential. That auto-attack on rifle will hurt OH SO MUCH now, the bleed was really negligible (Condi-rifle hur kitten aderk NO!) so taking that silly ticks away for some more power might pave the way for some interesting builds. Rifle Warriors become slightly more threatening now… pew pew.

- Axe: Spin spin spinning around. Just keep on spinning, grinding them zergs apart…

- Mace: Thanks for giving us the chance to ACTUALLY HIT WITH PULVERIZE!

- Sword: Impale nerfed again? 20 says Condi-warrior is still going to be strong!

- Greatsword: Gotta admit, started seeing that you were nerfing greatsword’s damage, however small, and thought you did not want Warriors to be even second-rate in damage in PvE. Then I saw what you did with Arcing Slice, and I almost hugged my monitor. It is hard to say where Warriors will be in PvE, there will likely be a shift in the Greatsword builds if we are going to be using Arcing Slice below 50%, but MAN does it have a role in mass damage in large-scale fights!

Utilities:
- Signet of Rage: Pfft, who needs boons? Signet is a welcome sight for warriors who WILL become Adrenaline starved now. Good for you!

- Signet of Might: I believe I read this particular change suggested by someone in the Warrior forums a long time ago. Inb4MightSignetSniperWarriors.

- Berserker Stance: I did feel like I was cheating with my adrenaline gain from popping this stance. A needed and justified nerf.

- Banners: You know, banners are still clunky, but you are on the right track!

- Rampage: I see what you are doing there, trying to make this elite skill appealing enough to influence enough players to run some amount of condition in their ZvZ comps to handle giant tanks whom are practically immune to movement impairment.
I got my eyes on you….But in all seriousness, given the changes to Adrenaline, it might be really entertaining to see an influx of new Warriors running around with this Elite.

And there you have it. I COULD go into immense detail on each little thing, like how the Adrenaline Depletion effectively makes Healing Surge worthless. That’s another time though.

Hello frands! Vee Wee here, #1 Engi NA and world first rank 80!

Skyhammer exists even though an overwhelming majority of people absolutely hate that map! Hate it hate it hate it hate it! Vee Wee personally does not play solo q anymore because of this map! Vee Wee knows many other people who do not play solo q or even quit because of this map!

There is only one game mode! Arenanet only balances with this one game mode in mind! Therefore the game will be even worse if they introduce something like ctf or arenas!

Patches come waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too infrequently! There should be at least some biweekly shavings! Maybe at least once every month! C’mon now! But nope! Once every half freaking year! A tiny change to a class or ability can have profound effects in game! But not changing anything means nothing is changed! Logic!

Not only do patches come too infrequently, they never tell us what’s in store for us in these biyearly updates! Evan’s always coming in and saying, “Hello frands! Evan Lesh here! We have some really cool updates in store for you guys! For some reason we can’t tell you what they are though!” Then one year later nothing happens! Then amazingly people post thanking him! Oh Evan Lesh thanks for posting so we see your red name! Even though you gave us nothing of substance or value thank you thank you! Tho thilly!

There is no way to communicate with your team! When Vee Wee plays Counter Strikes, Vee Wee presses the radio hotkey and then scrolls through a number of chat commands! How hard can that be to implement in the game! Are you going to type in the middle of a teamfight to tell your team a thief is about to backcap home! No! That’s just abthurd!

There’s no pause feature! Last week I think Vee Wee was watching some tournament on Blu’s stream and someone on the blue team disconnected! The casters were like, “Hey red team! Have someone idle in spawn!” That’s just thuper hilarious! Have you ever seen anything as ghetto as this!

There’s more that Vee Wee doesn’t like but Vee Wee is done typing about this! It’s just making Vee Wee mad!

Wahoo! Bye frands!

The Great HotJoin Steamroller

Posted by: El Gaucho.5278

El Gaucho.5278

I recently decided it was time to spec a new class out and jump into some hotjoins and try it out. It’s been horrid.

In the last few days playing between 6 to 10 games I’ve had ONE game where it could have gone either way in a 4vs5. The rest end up 5 Vs 2, 3 or, if you’re lucky 4 people, plus teamstacked. Not infrequently one of the losing team stays at spawn and waits for the timer for the purposes of getting their three daily maps.

You can’t learn a new class if you’re being ganked by 2 to 5 players at spawn.

I’m sure it’s been raised before but could ArenaNet consider one or more of the following:

- Remove playing 3 rounds from the daily rotation so people don’t just idle for the hell of it. This incentive to pvp is no longer required now that we have reward tracks.

- Once a player has joined the game – if they enter spectate then have them forfeit ALL bonus glory rewards at the end of the match.

- If you enter spectate after joining a team have the player forfeit reward track progress for the match.

True, there may be a slight inconvenience to players in the above, but those of us who care about PVP surely would prefer this? It removes all the benefits of team stacking (unless you’re absolutely adamant that you can’t be on the losing team even if you lose your rewards – fair game to you if that’s your preference!)

I had also considered a cooldown timer on being able to re-join, but that feels more intrusive to the game than the above suggestions.
________________________________________________

Spectate is for:

1. Watching and learning from other players
2. Being away for an extended period of time and allowing others to fill your spot

It is NOT for auto-balancing so you can join the winning team.

I’d welcome thoughts or other ideas from anyone out there!

[Suggestions]A roleplayers plea

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: celia.4063

celia.4063

Hi! *waves *

I’m not very good at this forum thingy, I am usually the one lurking in the shadows and nodding approvingly to other peoples posts. But after playing several MMOs over the years, including the original Guild Wars, I’ve noticed that there are some minor things I miss in GW2. And since I happen to love this game so, so much I figured that I for the first time ever should make a post about it and cross my fingers someone from A-net sees it.

I am a roleplaying-kind of-girl who like to immerse myself in the stories, the world, my characters. I enjoy every aspect of the game, and am very happy with how it turned out to be. However, the things I miss is from a roleplayers perspective, and probably won’t matter much to players who focus on other things for fun.

I’ll make a short list, just to keep my head organized.

1. Interaction with items. Now, I know there is alot of oportunities out there with items as weapons and stuff, which is super fun, but simple things like interacting with a chair in order to sit next to a table is something I miss.

2. The ability to wield torches and lanterns as a vanity item and not as a weapon when I am exploring a deep, dark cave or am walking along a road at night. These items could easily be added to the gem store, like the other toys!

3. A campfire kit, or something similar. I would really, really love to be able to light a campfire for immersion, whenever I want. (with a cooldown, I expect!) After diving in the cold, cold waters in Frostgorge Sound it would be lovely if I could cuddle up next to a warming fire before I continue on with my travels and adventure.

4. Other fun vanity items! Now, I won’t come up with hundreds of suggestions here since I do not know what would be realistic to expect, but based on the points above you get the idea. More outfits would also be appreciated! One can never have too many outfits…

5. First-person view. I know, I know, this might not be what most would call relevant for gameplay, but I would really enjoy to atleast have the oportunity when taking screenshots atleast. I love my characters, but they dont have to be in ALL the pictures!

I’ve seen other great suggestions in this forum, so I’m not gonna repeat them. But I’ll give a cheer for the housing idea, with gem bought items for costumization! Naturally, I realise that this is only a good idea for someone who can actually afford gems, so being able to aquire it in-game too should be possible.

Oki, this is it for now! Modest wishes, but I hope they’ll be fulfilled one day. Untill then, I will continue to play this lovely game and enjoy my time!

xoxo,
Celia

3. Halloween 2 candy corn sinks. There was an insane amount of candy corn in the world (10’s of billions) and we underestimated the distribution of those materials and cranked up the sinks too high. This made it very difficult to interact with those sinks at all and it didn’t feel good.

Can we infer from this that a large number of people quit the game between Halloween 1 and Halloween 2, essentially taking those billions of candy corn out of the economy (without literally doing so)? Or something else?

I wouldn’t infer a smoking gun, rather a series of different possibilities that all add up.

This forum is not a place for appealing a ban, but since you went into so much detail on why you think you got banned, I’ll go into the same level of detail on why you actually got banned.

Your account was terminated due to use of a 3rd Party Botting program. In regards to your reference to Cursed Shore, that is where you were reported (thanks players that reported you) and investigated. After watching your character, our GM team was able to determine that you were running a bot.

To extend further on that investigation, I looked into the logs and it looks like you were leaving your bot on for a couple of hours then playing the game later.

I also find it very interesting that a user by the name of kitten Cracked also has a post on a known botting forum where that user goes into depth about botting in Cursed Shore and is attempting to help others do the same.

Closing this thread. Please open a ticket with Customer Service if you wish to appeal.

GW2: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

THE GOOD

  • Combat — say what you will, but the combat in this game is actually pretty good. It isn’t as balanced as GW1, but dodging/evades plus the variety of conditions and skills give you something more to do rather than just sit there and mash buttons.
  • Optimization — as far as MMO’s go these days, this game is pretty smooth to play.
  • Graphics — its no Michelangelo, but the artists for this game did a pretty admirable job in making the game visually interesting while not sacrificing efficiency.
  • Stability — they have a quality platform that can obviously stand up to a lot of stress.
  • Jumping Puzzles — the JP’s are well-designed, fun, and interesting: they did a good job adding in this new MMO element.
  • The Music — the in-game music is just all-around good
  • No Sub Fee — and all of the above for no subscription fees. The gemstore is there, but you really don’t miss out on much of anything by not spending.

THE BAD

  • No WvW Support — it seems they wanted to include some sort of WvW in this game, and yet do not want to offer anything in the way of bug fixes, balance, and content updates to help support the format
*Super-easy PvE Content — this is a bad thing. There really isn’t a single thing in the PvE side of the game that offers a significant challenge, thus making the content go stale quickly and negating the importance of skill
  • No Sense of Wonder — while the world looks good and plays (mostly) smoothly, there isn’t really anything to draw you in and immerse you in the world. It is a sort of x-factor that is tough to describe. Either you have it or you don’t.

THE UGLY

  • Megaserver — so something had to be done, I guess, about declining server populations, but this update was seemingly rushed out the door with 0 consideration given to how it would impact the community. News update: it had a profoundly negative impact.
  • Lack of Meaningful Interaction — more and more, this game seems to reward players for becoming another faceless portion of a big blob of players rather than actually giving individuals and small groups something to strive for.
Guild Features/Interface — this is by far one of the clunkiest and most feature-less guild interfaces that I have ever had to use. Nevermind the fact that outside of guild missions, the game offers basically nothing to encourage guilds to interact together.
  • No New Expansions — this may be fixed at some point, hopefully. The Living Story updates are nice and all, but they in no way make up for the need for a real, full-on expansion to the game. Already people are hungry for it, and if they don’t get it then other games out there are going to start looking more and more tempting.

Feel free to comment and add your own inclusions to the list.

in Living World

Ok….I’ll start off with the positive… The STORY itself is better and mildly interesting, but the dialogue and character development is juvenile in the extreme. This group that we are hanging around with is just the saddest bunch of npc’s I have ever had the misfortune to “party” with in all my years of playing MMO’s and RPG’s.

First off Belinda. I mean, I wrote spoilers in the title but honestly, who gives a complete crap about this nothing character dying? My only wish was that she took the rest of the no marks with her. Also, how the HECK is that dumb Bimbo Kasmeer supposed to be some sort of super Mesmer? Not to mention the kitten hiccups again. It’s not cool and it’s not funny and it doesn’t make her “speshul”…it’s just cringe worthy.

Then there is Braham with his kitten leg. He’s a GUARDIAN for God’s sake…He can’t heal himself?? Either way, I am sick of hearing about it…Never seen a Norn act like such a wimp. Rox is merely relegated to bystander status which as a Ranger in this game, she should be used too I suppose. It’s a wonder they don’t boot her from the group for not bringing spotter and frost spirit.

The only character who has any kind of depth is Taimi I guess…but they are doing a good job of making an initially sympathetic character of being extremely precocious and annoying.

The point is, although the plot itself is getting better…the dialogue and the characters are by and large pretty terrible. I’m reading that people are saying Oh Anet I was blown away…Like wtf?? IS this the only game you have ever played in your life??? I say this with all sincerity, Anet could do a LOT worse than look at Bioware games for how to create characters and situations we care about…2 or 3 hours of Baldurs gate has more emotion and empathy in it than the entire season 1 and 2 so far of living story combined.

So for this patch I give it 6.5/10 …Getting better..but..ya Know…

Broken Intentions: It's been 6 months

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sithaco.4673

Sithaco.4673

Edit: Changed the title due to their being a absolutely huge difference between a promise and an intention.

Around this time last year, Arenanet posted this blog post telling us about all awesome and wonderful things they will be implementing before the end of 2013, I’m not here to flame Arenanet, but it’s been 6 months since the end of 2013, and still a lot of things that we were told we would be getting still aren’t here.

This is a list of all the things we were told would be implemented in 2013 that haven’t been put into the game yet, all things outside of the brackets are direct quotes from the blog post, I added in the bold:

  • “We’ll begin regularly adding new skills and traits to the game for each profession to expand your characters and builds!” (We’ve only had 1 healing skill added for each profession, and only 5 new traits for each profession.)
  • “We’ll expand all crafting professions to allow them to reach a new milestone: 500 points!” (Well, they must have meant all but jeweler and cooking).
  • “We aren’t quite ready to go into all the details here, but what I can say is you will see a specific way to build precursor items on your way to a legendary.” (Yeah, this never happened).
  • “On top of this, you’ll also see new legendary weapons and new types of legendary gear in 2013.” (This definitely didn’t happen).

I’m not here to complain or demand my rights or something, I’m just here to point out the facts, it’s been 6 months since this stuff was meant to come out and we haven’t heard a single word on it. I remember leading up to the final patches of last year, getting excited because I knew that new legendaries would be coming out soon, and then patch after patch slipped by, and nothing. That was over half a year ago, and we haven’t heard anything, no ETA, no apology, nothing. I’m disappointed.

Jumping Feedback Thread

in Living World

Posted by: Spoofy.8239

Spoofy.8239

This post was made because the poster said he did not like the jumping aspect that is creeping into the main game.

Jumping we were lead to believe when the game was first released was something extra that players could do to to pass the time or help them fulfil their need for recognition amongst their peers.

The main part of the game was about the MMO part of the area and those who chose to, could ignore that.

The poster’s point that now the main MMO area has now changed into a jumping puzzle is quite a valid point and that this poster does not like to or cannot should not be seen as an opportunity for others to lambaste the poster because of his views

I happen to agree with the poster on the point about puzzle and jump creep within the game

Flipping does not increase any price, in fact, without flippers sell orders could be higher, if you don’t understand this, then you don’t understand how it works, plus with the gold sink it creates its actually helping reduce inflation, which is good for everyone.

Sorry for my spelling

yeah… no. How, in gods name, should people who buying cheap and selling expensive help keeping the prices down? It makes no sense.

When a player adds velocity or liquidity to a market, the result is often lower prices and often prices closer to equilibrium.
Given recent feedback let me try also this in other terms (I’ve tried this before and failed so bare with me).

Supply and Demand curves can also be called Willingness to Pay and Willingness to Sell curves. Essentially they are the shape of what people are willing to pay or how much people are willing to sell for. If everyone is will to pay $5 then the “demand” curve would be a flat horizontal line at $5.
In real markets the curves end up being curves because people have different preferences or costs. I might be willing to pay $100 for a new video game and you may be willing to pay $50 and yet another person $30. When you extrapolate this out you get a smooth curve of what people are willing to pay (it works the same way for the willingness to sell).

Balance (or equilibrium) occurs when those two lines meet, and people are willing to pay the same amount people are willing to sell. This price is decided by the market as a whole. Given the “freeness” of our market in GW2 people can sell for more or less than this price. In a textbook this would never happen because people always want to be in that balanced state. In real life though, especially in video games, people have different preferences outside of that market equation. Time is a major factor of this equation in real life. Imagine you could instantly sell items to a vendor for 1 gold or you could place them on the TP for 1gold 5 silver; some amount of player would be willing to sell straight the the vendor and save the time because their preference for time or convenience makes that a good trade off for them and that’s awesome, people should be allowed to make that trade off if they want. Now let’s say people instead just place everything on the TP for super cheap instead of vendoring because it’s easier. The prices these items are placed at are often placed below that equilibrium price which leaves room for someone to purchase those items and sell them at equilibrium price earning some profit per item. The person who purchases and resells values that trades and so does the individual selling easily, in this case both parties match what they want. Now the market has items placed at the equilibrium price for the standard buyers/sellers that sell at that equilibrium. Those sellers cannot change that equilibrium price and placing items above that price will result in the items not selling. They cannot raise the price, the market has decided the price and other people have decided their willingness to sell.

The first question to ask here is, “Isn’t the profit of the reseller directly equivalent to how much people are willing to trade off money for time or other preferences?”
The answer is yes, and more than that, the potential profit is split between all the different individuals attempting to buy and resell. Since the profit is finite and will become distributed between players, why wouldn’t people begin doing that until everyone only made little to no money? If everyone was the same person they would, but there must be some barrier to entry to that activity, there must be something that stops people from jumping in and distributing some of that profit to themselves. The most common and the most correct (but not complete) is that it takes time and skill, if it did not there would be almost no profit in the activity because the potential would be split between too many different individuals.

(Hello again econ and business people, I’m aware that this is very simple, but I’m attempting to introduce people to the ideas and attempting to explain complex concepts right away turns out poorly)
