This is so needed and I do hope the team gets it right for wvw. And I hope most of all its good for all classes! No flavor of the month!
dont expect alot
This had better be the mother of all balance patches. WvW players seem to want big changes.
Its either going to be huge, or its going to kitten off a lot of players with a small amount of controversial changes to skills. I can’t really imagine another reason that would warrant what amounts to a warning thread about the upcoming balance patch. I’m leaning more towards the later. That way I won’t be disappointed if it is what we get, and I’ll be pleasantly surprised if its a big balance update.
Or at least if WvW will be adressed regarding some classes and their over the top builds?
Why? why is the siege in WvW like mortars and cannons positioned in places where they can easily be killed? It makes no sense from a defense stand point.
You bunch of ingrates!

WvW:
I played Realm Vs Realm in online games for many years, and it was always my favorite game mode, because it allowed you to do PvP without the fight always simply being determined by who is better. Things happen, the environment changes, other people get involved ,etc. This makes it very interesting ad not “stale” like SPvP.
Howver, RvR as implemented in GW2 is too grand. Other, smaller games tend to be more modest with their implemntation; but ArenaNet seems to think they have 39526526 players in this game mode so they have five(!) huge maps, most of which are empty even on large servers (the zerg just map hops giving the illusion of presence), and every objective is rediculously large and well-defended by upgrades and guards and require siege weapons to break, so conflict from roamers, small guilds and raiding parties is limited exclusively to camps most of the time.
I understand that they’re trying to make it feel like fighting in a huge war, but realistically RvR game modes survive on light conflict/skirmishes. A proper RvR battle is 10-15 people defending a fort against 10-15 other people, with a third side causing trouble — not a huge zerg of fifty people just coming in, blowing everything up for the capture points and then disappearing to another map for the next few hours.
Simplifying this game mode would go a long way to improving it. You don’t want it to be entirely skill-based like SPvP, but you do want it to matter alot more than it does in the current implementation where players are just fodder.
Another thing that bothers me about WvW is inconsistency. Your color keeps changing, your allies keep changing (server linking), your enemies keep changing, even your map keeps changing now with the Borderlands cycling. There’s nothing to adhere to because it’ll be gone in the next competition cycle. In this way, WvW is trying to be too much like SPvP (tournament-ish) and its hurting it.
SPvP:
This game mode seems like its trying to emulate Quake 3: Team Arena, while far from reaching the mark, mainly because it just comes off as lame.
The maps in particular are congested, yet empty, with no powerups or any notable objectives of any sort (this is part of why conquest is so boring) and it feels like they tried to make it “balanced” while also having it look like something out of a MOBA, which is just not a combination that works. If you want action, then you have to build an action game, not a weak Action-FPS-RPG-eSports-hybrid-thing.
SPvP offers absolutely nothing that WvW doesn’t besides fixed gear and a guaranteed oppertunity at fighting other players instead of roaming.
I’m usually really sweet… but this an internet forum and you know how it has to be.

- My hand-based twitch reflexes deteriorated due to arthritis. I have limited ability to do anything about it. As a result, anyone who has good twitch is going to get an easy win. While I don’t mind that myself, I wouldn’t want to burden a team of people looking to have fun, so no sPvP.
- WvW zerg play is unintersting to me. I’m fine running a backline Ele, but since HoT popped, the new builds have meant the zerg game changed. Since it was less fun, I stopped paying attention and am likely behind on what I’d have to do to contribute effectively. I could catch up, but it would be spending time studying for a game element that I don’t find fun, so unless that changes, I mostly avoid the zerg.
- WvW roaming I still do sometimes, although it does get annoying when I run into someone with high sustain, high damage and high mobility all in one build. So, I still do roam a bit, but my enthusiasm for it is also waning.
Anet, please look at this situation. I’m sure it would not take a lot of effort to fix. It’s killing the upgrade system and giving advantage in a PTW way.
Look at supply and demand, (and I can guarantee you that demand is underestimated), as most people probably just look at the price and decide “nope”.
This is NOT an elite material to build anything that people can sell and profit from, it’s a basic need for the WvW community to support their guilds and servers.
Hm thanks, well that “simple fix” changes everything,AB is just worthless to do now.
I agree. I just don’t understand why people are against ABML. It’s like being against winning money in a contest. They hate big prizes so they seek to ruin it for everyone. This is why we can’t have good things…
Posts like this make me even more glad I did not participate. I would rather earn my way than ride the exploit train.
ANet folks repeatedly said it was not an exploit. The only reason it is being patched is because of complainers.
Obviously it was not as they intended it to be. One area should not be so much better than everything else at rewards. No, I am not one of the complainers either, I just think the whining is funny because people’s cash cow is going away.
They needn’t worry; they can join the new leather farm.
There’s leather in them thar hills!
You bunch of ingrates.
They wanted to give you mobile cannons and you didn’t want it.
They wanted to give you repair hammers and you didn’t want it.
They gave you scoring changes all you do is argue over numbers 3 2 1 2 1 1 5 4 3 100 99 98.
They proposed more worlds to dying wvw and you said no.
Then people wanted mercenary worlds which is the same but you can’t agree on it because identity crisis.
Anet proposes 1 dbl 2 alp, you say no, vote says yes, anet checks on scrapping dbl, you say no, anet checks for 1 dbl 2 alp again, you say yes.
Then cry about veterans not playing for 2 years didn’t get a fair vote, you need bunch of ranks and a bunch of wvw hours to vote, you cry the vote was rigged cause pve players care about a wvw map.
Then you cry about the empty red borderland when the other two borderlands are also empty, while ebg is over queued every night.
You cry for population balance, they lower the threshold to keep bigger worlds from getting bigger, you cry about it to players from 20+ dead servers, we’re gonna die if we don’t open up!
They gave you golem week and you cried about a minor golem buff exploit.
They gave you some new commander tag colors and you cry about every other color not available.
They gave you reward tracks and you complain about not getting a legendary backpack.
They put gift of battle in the track and you complain about not getting a years notice before so you can buy it with free badges.
They took away crafting stations and you cry about not being able to skip a loading screen.
They gave you you a “big giant sized” guild hall with a “small dinky” arena to do your gvg’s and you cry about it.
They reorganized the wvw upgrades into your guild halls and you complain about the minor cost of spending months in pve.
They gave you fun to use banners and you complain about it being op.
They gave you extra upgrades to scout for you and all you do is complain about small groups.
Big fancy airships to make the big castle in the middle of ebg feel more epic you cry about it killing you every 15 mins.
They put a big fat cannon in the middle of dbl to promote fights every 3 hours, you cry about lag so they take it away, and then you cry about it being empty and no bloodlust.
They gave you new elite specs to freshen up classes after 3 years of getting old and boring, and you cry about imbalance pfft like that didn’t exist before.
They gave you boons to counter the increased damage but you complained no one was dying, so they fixed it after months and months and months of hard testing, and then you complain about dying to conditions.
They made conditions good so you don’t feel limp in zerg fights and now you complain about spreading it.Pfft.
I AGREE WVW PLAYS ARE INGRATES!! I’ve been playing since launch and no matter how much Anet tries to make things better you ppl are never happy. I for one love WvW and I want to say thank you WvW team. I love this game
Addressing your edited post about people leaving and friends list getting smaller, I’m not exactly sure what you expect to happen after four years. In the first year of this game my WvW guild died when the GL quit. Half of them never logged on ever again. The other half went their own ways. Today there’s maybe three people of that guild left still playing this game, myself included. We’ve all moved on to other social circles, made new friends, etc. The GL quit back then for many of the same reasons people quit right now: dead game, “all the good players have already left”, burn-out, numbers imbalance, real life.
Generally the population is dwindling though and its dwindling faster than other modes, at least thats how it appears, megaserver may cover up PvE losses. I think its almost unarguable though that had anet developed the mode better that it would have more players now and be a far better experience.
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro
I think they don´t care anymore. How many time with no improves now? Just some “fixes” here and there, but is not enough.
Population balance is horrible right now. I am at Blackgate and we are a ghost town until NA prime, compared to the population of Maguuma.
i’m very disappointed anet do nothing for wvw
i don’t have any reason to open gw2
T1 already killed by anet
every week only reset can play with other people
in the other time, i just see a lot of afk and karma train…
pve so boring, but they just focus on their “funny” living world
i will not present gw2 to my friends when it have new dlc
Ya I know ;-; I’m sad I wasted time writing it tbh
anet devs will ignore this post
This only relates to SPVP
TLDR:
1. D/P too stronk, so give all other weapon sets on demand stealth.
2. SB too mobile; perhaps buff staff mobility or other forms of mobility.
3. Stop the mindless dodge spam cancer before it goes mainstream (kill signet)
1. D/P rekts, why is that? On demand stealth, on demand rupt, on demand blind+gap closer (best skill evar), amazing auto with poison and high dps, nice stealth attack, etc. . . .(I bold things so they pop out at you :< )
I don’t want to nerf any of that. Thief right now has a pretty decent spot in meta I think, along with pretty much every other class having at least one option and I don’t want to disrupt that balance(lul).
I’m not for giving every weapon set ALL of those things, that would be stupid. But the easiest thing to tackle is stealth.
Every weapon set has a pretty cool stealth attack, but not every weapon set can have stealth. That’s stupid. Here’s what I’d do (like anyone cares or any dev would pay attention to it, but I’m annoyed so I’ll say it anyway)
Rules: None of the stuff I’m adding needs to hit the target to grant the stealth; the stealth applies after the hit to not f with reveal of course. Also keep in mind that currently the BP HS combo grants 3 seconds of stealth regardless of any trait (SA does not increase stealth duration from combos)
Dagger main: Remove combo finisher of HS. HS now grants 2 seconds of stealth on use. Increase ini to 5 (what like you used this for anything other than stealth? It’s a net buff :p)
Pistol main: Body Shot now also grants 2 seconds of stealth. Increase ini to 5.
Sword main: Infiltrator’s Strike now also grants 2 seconds of stealth on initial cast. 5 initiative. I would honestly just remove the ini cost of the secondary cast.
Short bow: Disabling shot. 2 secs of stealth 5 ini you get the idea lul
Staff: Either Dust Strike or Debilitating Arc, IDGAF lol 5 ini 2 seconds of stealth.
2 seconds might not be enough to reliably land your stealth attack, perhaps 3 seconds of stealth and 6 ini?
But wait ohmuhgawd what about cloak and dagger and bound+bp, you will give dual wielders perma stealth!
Right now anyone running D/P and bound already has perma stealth (yes, even without SA). It’s not that big of a deal since outside of dueling dash is better. Also this is why reveal is a thing, l2p?
2. SB 5 is ridiculous. It makes SB a necessity in any serious form of play. I don’t wish to nerf it as mobility is what thief basically brings to meta. Without it we probably wouldn’t be there.
I don’t have a good solution for this. I thought about gutting the damage of vault and making it 900 range so it can basically be a SB but would that just be too ridiculous?
Really just at a loss on this one
3. Dodge spam builds, both acro staff and condi d/d varieties are kitten to this world. Kill them with fire. I don’t want acro nerfed; instead I think it is simpler and probably enough to just change signet of agility to do anything other than give you 100 endurance back.
BUT WUT ABOUT THE DAREDEVIL HEALLLLL
Acro doesn’t give you big hits. They also need to twine in bound with the vault to do decent damage I think. If they take the Physical heal with bound and standard acro staff traits, they could get CCed to death. If they take dash to not be CCed to death, then they lose a lot of damage and rely on vault. It won’t get them far.
If it’s still an issue then a further nerf to physical heal or acro could be fine I guess, but I think agility signet’s death would be enough.
Sorry to waste your time if you read all this; everyone knows ANET isn’t doing anything atm lol
Players wanted more variety than balance in the matchups. ANet listened and added some randomness to matchups instead of only using the ranks. It dates back few years.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/big-changes-coming-to-wvw-matchups
The world linking and the victory points features caused problems in the match-making; Glicko could not keep up even with the volatility and deviation resets. One thing ANet did was tweaking the ratings manually:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Glicko-Temporary-Manual-Adjustments
ANet also proposed to split all servers in half so that they had more options for linking worlds. But that plan received a very negative response on these forums. So into the trash bin it went.
I think they are working on the population rebalancing but it’s not ready to be discussed on. (or at least this should be their #1 focus because so many things in WvW hinges upon it)
This won’t hurt [Much]
Ring of Fire
Stealth design is broken, always has been broken, always will be broken in this game.
Some other games put cc under diminishing returns so that you’re not continually taken out of control of your character while you go from 100 to 0. Anet only like to apply diminishing returns to loot, think you can figure out where their priorities are with the game.
North Keep: One of the village residents will now flee if their home is destroyed.
“Game over man, Game Over!” – RIP Bill
I don’t think any in-depth analysis is necessary. To me this topic seems like it’s trying to say, twitchy players are too powerful with twitchy builds.
Well, you can’t doing anything about that except load up on as much passive defense as possible. Though I think Necro might be a little short handed in that department.
I speculate there is no customization because IMO, it’s a luxury, and I doubt Anet has the resources right now to implement luxury features. It’s certainly not terrible in its present state though.
1. Some stun/daze needs to removed or scaled back. It’s part of HoT power creep.
2. It does work the same, but it has a lower range.
The first is getting rid of daze/stun or increase their cooldown’s. They get spammed way too much and it’s all some ppl run cuz they’re cheap builds.
The second is change all teleport/shadowstep skills to be the same. I play guardian mainly and my sword #2 that has the teleport but it does not go through walls or elevations like other teleport/shadowstep skills can making some of the maps slower to get around.
The first one is only really bad when it’s a whole team like that though lol. But the 2nd one would be very nice since it would even help with pve and wvw
Short answer: No. With keybinds or a multi button mouse that player can hit so many buttons it just seems like a macro.
Tarnished Coast: Bringing the Butter to you (no pants allowed)
Someone surely was bored… Can we blame them?
WvW Rank 3800 (Platinum Veteran) – PvP Rank 69 (Shark) – 25,9k Achievment Points
Mërcenaries [Sold] – Ferguson’s Crossing
Look on the bright side, I bought this new cat litter and it smells wonderful.
but imagine that u trying take T3 keep over 30minutes of fights and almost have it
Imagine?
Thats what WvW once was. We used to have 2-3 hours long 3-way fights over completely broken down garrisons. Zerg vs zerg vs lord then a yolo warrior ran in and bannered the downed lord and the fight continued. It was fun and it was insane. Some fights the lord went down 50 times. It was those moments that led to actual real life battlefatigue, lol. Add entire zergs waypointing in between contests for defense on top of that.
But then Anet gutted WvW. All the nerfs has made it a shadow of its former glory.
