Right now the defend objective event is triggered whenever someone attacks a guard. This has one extremely major flaw: you can keep a keeps waypoint contested by simply attacking a guard on a remote wall.
This means due to Arena Nets attrocious skill balance in WvW a thief can run all stealth and mobility doing next to no damage at all but keep a way point contested almost indefinitely without any risk at all. We’ve had a Baruch bay thief doing this to us keeping a good dozen people trying to find and burst him down for 2 hours. Managed to kill him a few times but when running shortbow, tanky gear and shadowstep, blinding powder and shadow refuge he was nearly impossible to keep up with except for other thieves. Even stealth traps had no guarantee of being triggered and when we did kill him he was back within a minute.
In my opinion this should be changed to either defend events are triggered when a certain number of enemies are in the vicinity(10+) or when gates/walls take more than 100 points of damage in one hit.
You should not be able to keep way points contested this easily and it needs changing.
3. (Guild castles and decoration) Guild halls are cool, but I would love if we can claim our own castle in WvW and be able to decorate it for as long as we hold it + add more awesome castles similar to “Stonemist Castle <3”.
I really like this one. If I were to implement it, I would give player decorations a set number of hit points, so they could perhaps build huge barricades of junk behind doors or whatever.
That one has been mentioned a few times over the years. They could do it the minimal way and have pre-made decorated structures, you pick a theme and when you claim something it changes over to that theme. Themes like having a haunted halloween tower, a more medieval looking keep, north pole looking castle with ice block walls, even the eotm keeps have their own themes you could use, etc.
They could sell those themes on the gem store if they wanted like the finishers, and would give guilds a more personal and fun touch to their claims. Speaking of which they could have done a better job with the flags and banners that fly the guild crest on claims, showing the abbreviated guild names which I would think would provide a lil extra pride to the guilds.
For a game that’s about looks they sure don’t bother to explore that much, here’s another outfit and wings.

Not sure what makes you think that all the people that left due to class imbalance will suddenly flock in with another meaningless tournament.
The sad realisation that even in it’s horrible balance state it is still ahead of most viable offerings in terms of active combat.
For comparison: end of 2016 and still no CU.

Big time overhaul coming.
This makes me want to bang my head on my desk! We don’t need new pretty artwork for the UI, we need a way to save our wvw server communities that have been bent over the desk in favor of revolving super guilds and T1 servers….I swear its like they are in an alternate reality and just “don’t get it!”
The overhaul was a lie, another one.
There is a traitline called SA that enhances a Thiefs Stealth abilities.
There is a trait inside that line called Hidden Thief which stealths a thief after a steal. On steal a thief can apply poison and confusion .With hidden theif they are then stealthed for 4 seconds. This means the thief can apply his damage and then remain stealthed for those 4 seconds.
If a thief wished they could use a SR to stealth beforehand and then use that same steal with hidden thief.
This has been there since day one and people have learned to deal with it. It has nothing to do with traps. It is a defined class mechanic. One might as well complain that after being attacked by a guardian/warrior he can throw up a block and I can not touch him for several seconds or that on shooting at someone from range the damage just reflected back. Those too are class mechanics.
A DH can stack traps outside a portal and then leave the area. A person stepping on them can take thousands in damage and never see the DH.
Hahaha wat?!
Have you ever actually fought ghost thief?
The steal stealth and what little condi it does is the least of your concerns. By them dumping all the traps in a well timed strike you will have ~6-8 conditions and a hefty amount of immobilize. Fail to cleanse that immobilize or have kittenty passives that doesnt cleanse/reduce condi effects and you will die where you stand without ever seeing the thief, end of story.
Make applying damage conditions reveal and problem solved.
So duh, this topic has been erm… discussed before.
Thieves and perma stealth.
What in the world is the justification for perma stealth? It’s their class mechanic, but it’s just total, 100% bullkitten, and it hasn’t changed since the game’s inception. Two minutes ago a thief attacked be, and for 2-3 seconds AFTER I was hit, I still COULD NOT SEE THEM. What is this? What reason could there be for insane mobility AND perma stealth? It’s just ridiculous.
Mesmers and clones.
I wouldn’t give a kitten if three was the limit, but what is with 5+ clones running at you at one time from one godkitten mesmer?
I’m so tired of this kitten. This is why I never play pvp, because the classes are so godkitten lopsided.
Aside from the rant, my questions are:
How come the thief was cloaked after he hit me? I couldn’t even see their name.
When did mesmers acquire the ability to produce more than 3 clones at a time?
The issue of communication between ANet and WvW has come up quite a bit, most recently in this thread here which links to this article:
Which made me wonder whether WvW has really received significantly more or less communication than usual this year (well, last year, 2016), and whether the sense of no communication is a self-delusion created by salty players, or whether its really true.
So in the name of science, linked is an analysis of all Red Posts on the forums:
http://i.imgur.com/hdF3lyp.jpg
Now, 3 caveats to note here:
- It is not possible to quantify the “quality” of a post, so this treats a 1-word reply as the same as a 1000-word essay.
- Not all Red Posts are “developer” posts, many will be from support staff.
- Some forums are now hidden, so not counted.
That said, there are some conclusions we could draw from this:
- WvW has received more communication in 2016 than it did in 2015.
- The proportion of attention that WvW receives as a whole of communication across all areas was significantly higher in 2016 than previous years.
- However, this is still significantly less than PvE (3x more) and PvP (2x more).
- The 2016 boost comes from a flurry of activity in Q2, the rest of the year is “as usual”.
- Looking at previous years, the difference between WvW and PvE/PvP communication was much larger than in 2016, which may explain why WvWers have a pre-conception that they are not communicated with.
But maybe the numbers are skewed by 1 or 2 monster threads with 100+ posts? Well, lets see….
http://i.imgur.com/1vjT4yU.jpg
This shows basically the same shape.
2016 is technically up on 2015, but notice how much the engagement with WvW nose-dived in 2015, and how 2016 was still nowhere near 2013/2014.
Maybe its one poster going crazy and skewing the numbers?
http://i.imgur.com/FhGwiJf.jpg
Nope. Infact, quite the opposite, it looks like WvW does very well in terms of the breadth of different red-users engaging.
So I think this shows what we all already knew; that while the engagement has been better in 2016 than 2015, that’s still not really saying very much given that the engagement through 2014/2015 was so low.

Here’s a user story for you:
Today, I logged in to play some WvW.
T1. Home borderlands. Map is empty. I’m just about to leave when I spot someone flipping south camps. Hoping for a fight, I run down to intercept them.
It’s a roaming thief…
They do the usual thief things. Every time I deal some damage or reveal them, they break combat and shortbow to 3000 range. Every time I immobilize them, they instantly clear it with a dodge. Their escapes are on about 3-4x shorter cooldowns than my cc’s, so I’ll never catch them. After about 5 minutes of this, I’m bored.
I leave and go play Overwatch.
The 211 scoring system has been a huge step in the wrong direction.
no, 2 1 1 scoring is a great idea, it stops servers fighting for second place while the “top” server runs away in points because they are being ignored.
But this doesn’t work as expected: Typically the server with the highest population wins because they have players online 24/7. The only way to catch up, is to make some points when this server has not that many people online. This has now become completely impossible due to the 2 1 1 change. As a result of this, on my server there’s only a handful of players in wvw after 10pm.
Take it back!I find few people who are willing to form a small team of 4-5 and try and back cap or sneaky cap enemy stuff to alter the score- most no longer care, just wanting to join the maximum rewards/minimum effort of blobbing or mindlessly following the main comm.
Wvw is in a terrible state as it’s been more or less completely neglected for years, then balance was abandoned in H0T and the current metas are awful to face.
Whether Anet cares enough to do something about it and whether it wants to devote sufficient resources to it are entirely different questions. My suspicion is that they will do neither.
With the current population problems and the skirmish point system there is no point in capping back enemy stuff, because the strongest fraction almost always has the most players on any map. As one of the other servers, you’ll not become 1st and if you get 1 point for being second or one point for being third doesn’t matter, so why play at all?
Many of us has warned Anet for ages about some of these issues. But Anet didn’t pay any attention. Now honestly most of the hard core people have left. In fact people that put in the most time and effort into this game are often the VERY FIRST to leave. Why?
Let me say that WvW is actually fun. It is just VERY draining. Why? Because there is no clear victory in this WvW.
For example you take over the whole map. Did you win? Nope. 30 minutes after you log off your enemies will just PvDoor and take back everything and ruin all your upgrades that you guild paid A LOT of money for.
The victor is not who is more skilled. The victor is who can stay awake longer.
In my younger days perhaps I can log those hours. But now I (and many of us) has priorities and we honestly cannot spent that many hours all for NOTHING.
WvW need a clear victory. It need clear rewards for these victories. Not tower flipping and PvDoor.
Honestly the hard core players has posted thousands of ideas on these forums for Anet. If Anet wants they can always go back and look at the threads with the most posts. It is not our job even to tell them how to fix their game. We are here to have fun. We are here to train and win. And we expect to be rewarded and even recognized. And we expect to go to bed without having to worry about all our work and effort go to waste.
Think about it. The #1 contributing guild on a server isn’t even recognized. Even if it doesn’t mean anything, is it asking for too much to have a list that shows the top 20 guilds that donated the MOST money in WvW in the past months (and show how much they donated)? The guild that took over the most towers and fortresses in the past months? The guild that fended off the most enemy sieges in the past months? Where are the rewards and recognition?
This is one of the thousands of suggestions that we players have already given. And tbh I don’t feel this is even that difficult in implement. But it never came. And now must of the hardcore players left. And even if Anet ask for opinions and inputs now, the hardcore players won’t answer.
I can say so much more. I had been playing since the beta of GW1. So I was there when we had like 200 skills for each character to work with. And now we have like 10 skills in GW2, and everyone in WvW runs the same bar. Because there is only 1 skill bar that is effective. I know having 200 skills is hard to balance. But Anet has totally turn 180 degrees in GW2 and KILLED all creativity. It is almost like they are making a DOTA or LOL, which limit your character to 4 skills. This is one of the biggest reason that the game got boring for me. I honestly has been running the same skill bar (same 10 skills) for like the past 2 years. Buffing and nerfing skills DOESN’T fix anything. We just have 10 skills in GW2 compared to like 200 skills back in GW1.
Oh and back in GW1 the mobs (yes now I am getting into PvE) would actually try to fight the players on an even level. Mobs actually have unique skill bars that they know how to use to try to beat the players FAIR AND SQUARE. Now in GW2 we have mobs that is TOTALLY OPed stat wise but TOTALLY MINDLESS. Even the most regular mobs have like 10 times the health of the player, but they do not know how to play the game at all. The mobs just overwhelms the players by higher stats and numbers. Anet you honestly have no idea how disappointed I was, coming from GW1, when I walked into a GW2 dungeon for the first time. Honestly Anet you should have seen a problem with the game when the players feels like they are in a DIFFERENT UNIVERSE from the mobs. When the players have 20k hp, even the most regular mobs often have like 200k hp. When the players hit for 2k damage, the mobs hits for like 8k. etc
I really don’t want to rant. Been there done that. But Anet if you are reading this, I just want you to know the most brutal and honest truth. Forget the PR. Fix your game.

My timing for entering the GW2 game had to be the worse ever! I was a new player with around 4 or 5 months of hard obsessive playing before all the changes took place, and when I discovered WvW… it was love at first sight.
My first server was randomly picked for me. It was a small, mid tier server, and from what I was told it had suffered many upsets with guild transfers before I entered the picture.
In spite of this there was a “strong-pull-together-attitude” that made running with different guilds at odd hours feel seamless. I loved the sense of team play and did everything I could do to help.
Then after several match-ups of getting steamrolled and demoralized by servers that stacked and simply had more numbers and coverage in wvw than we did, I logged in one day and everyone started transferring off. Including the guild I was in who didn’t bother to fill me in. Granted I was a green player and not that good at the time, but it was kind of a kick in the gut especially when I thought of them as friends.
So as I reflect back I guess what I really loved most was what “I thought that server community was” rather than what it really ended up being. I’m happy to say I moved on and like where I am now, but the blurred lines of server link ups has been more harmful than good for those looking for a structured community to build and work with rather than large guild cliques being blindly catered to by development.
Hey folks -
I’ve had several instances where I’ve found a rich metal vein, only to tap it and get a single ore before it collapses. This is usually after I’ve found and depleted another rich vein somewhere else recently.
Anyone else experiencing this? It’s very disappointing.
My server just generally has a really good team spirit and attitude, you can count on a good commander being on at almost all times, and the WvW guilds of my server are really nice and very active. I joined one and made some very good friends who I play with daily.
I’ll admit it, I originally came to WvW just for easy alt leveling and Proofs, but after some time I realized I was spending more and more time on EB and BL’s rather than EotM, taking things more and more seriously until it was too late :P My server’s overall team spirit played a big part in that.
Well of course there is no reason for vets to play. Its not like sPvP is gonna teach them how to perform surgery on a horse or something.
Stealth Disruptor Traps are only needed because of Stealth stacking. Both are bad for the game and should be removed.
This won’t hurt [Much]

How did they get your name to contact you? You should have been in stealth the entire time so they would have no idea how they died. Learn to permastealth ;p

Why its so difficult to make more armors instead of Outfits?
If we could Combine all those beautiful elements in the Outfits i would have the freakin best armor ALL TIME !
So please stop making all those Outfits..
if people try to spawn camp me i just put on scorpion wire pull them in legendary npc XD
Doesn’t work anymore at least on most maps. Enemies get teleported back now. ANet basically carebeared spawn camping… for the spawn campers.
Yeah anet should revert this change so those who overextend in spawn fights gets 1 shotted by the legendary defenders.

‘Twas The Night before Reset’
’Twas the night before Reset! front gate to supply house,
Nothing stirred in the Garrison, not even a mouse;
The Backpacks were hung, ’round supply hut with care,
In hopes that St. Tinker* soon would be there.
The Guilds were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Golem’s danced in their heads.
With Fortify done, and a full colored Map,
They had all settled down for a long winter’s nap;
When beyond the outer gate there arose such a clatter,
The Commanders JUMPED UP >:( to see what was the matter.
Away to the Walls, they flew ready for the clash >:(
Tore open there Backpacks! and threw up Guild stash!
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow,
Gave the luster of battle-haze to the oblects below.
When, what! to there Eagle eyes should appear,
But 8 miniature Asuras!? ??? Transformed as reindeer!? :o
With an Engineer Commander, so lively a thinker,
We all knew in a moment it must be St. Tinker.
More rapid than Dolyaks! his coursers they came,
And he whistled, as they Zerged, and he called them by name;
“Now, Basher! Now, Battle! Now, Piercing and Hexen!
On, Comet! On Cata! On, Damage! and Blitzen!
To the top of Supply Hut! To the top of the wall!
Buy my Weapons! And Siege! THIS KEEP shall not Fall!"
As red cinders before the Trebuchet fly,
When they met with an obstacle, They Zerged to the sky,
So up to the Gate-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of Siege , and Legendary’s too!
And then, in a swords flash, atop supply hut roof,
We heard the prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As we drew in our sites, and were turning siege ’round,
To the supply hut roof top; St.Tinker came with a bound.
He was dressed all in Norn furs, from his head to his foot;
And his Armor was covered with ashes and soot,
A bundle of Weapons he had flung on his back;
And he looked like a Warlord just opening his pack.
His eyes-how they Flamed! His Scars how merry!
His cheeks were like Blood roses his nose like a Om Nom Berry!
The tight smirk of his mouth’ was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke circled his head like a Battlefire wreath.
He had a broad face and a big round belly,
That shook when he laughed’ like a bowl of Om Nom jelly.
He was stocky and Stealth, a right jolly old elf;
And we cheered when we saw him, in spite of ourself;
The gleam in his eye and the swagger of his of his head,
Soon gave us to know, in the next battle we had nothing to dread;
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the Back Packs! Droped Siege!
Then turned with a jerk!
And laying his finger aside of his broken nose,
He gave a Salute! and to supply’s rooftop he rose;
He then sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a commanding whistle;
And away they all went! over the gate’ like red hot cinder’s of a burning a thistle.
But we heard him exclaim, ere they Zerged out of sight.

…AND TO ALL A GOOD-FIGHT.”

I don’t think 10k drinks is grindy at all. What is that? 40 or 50 straight hours of exclusively doing the JP? Sounds like pure fun to me!!! I’d recommend that they change it to 350k drinks because that too would be enjoyable. Maybe make you do about 100 hours of infunarium as well.
