Linked servers and shared scoring is a great idea that’s been pitched numerous times by different people but never seemed to pick up steam. I’m hoping they’ll be a bit more open-minded to community ideas given the lackluster inaugural season.
Prior to getting into the topic I will give just a bit of history of my gaming experience. I am 57 years old and began online gaming back in the days of script based games, public dialports and BBS’s. I have played many, many different MMORPGs since that point in time and will probably continue to do so but GW2 is starting to leave a sour taste that I just cannot shake.
So the purpose of this thread is to point out, as constructively as possible, ANET’s flaws and mishandling of bugs/exploits/hacking although with their policies I suspect it will garner me an infraction or possibly my first ever ban from a gaming forum.
In most if not all of the other games I have played there was a direct option to report someone for using an exploit or hacking from within the game. In GW2 you have to jump through hoops to make a report. This needs to be fixed and sooner rather then later. ANET wants us to provide screenshots/video of possible infractions yet they do not support us in the effort to do so and that lack of support is glaring.
If I witness a possible case of someone using a hack in-game it happens over the course of a few minutes before that person is gone. At that point in time I have to have video capture software at my fingertips and be able to turn it on quickly and record what is happening on my screen. Other games made it possible to contact a GM who would “ride on your shoulder” or be there invisible in order to observe for themselves and to make a decision if what you were seeing was a verifiable hack.
Other games published the fact that they suspended “X” amount of people for hacking even to the point of what type of hack was used but here it is all hush hush. If I reported what I believe to be someone using a hack I do not even get the courtesy of a reply to let me know if I was correct in my assumption or not. Any forum posts are immediately infracted and locked/deleted. I want to know if what I just witnessed was an actual hack or just a misconception on my part.
Then there are the game “bugs” that go un-fixed. 4 months ago, in this thread,
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/ANET-Fix-Your-Towers/page/2#post2612972
I posted on the NW tower bug that allows people to bypass closed gates/walls. At that time I caught on a screenshot an ANET employee who told us that it would be made a top priority issue but 4 months later nothing has been done as it happened again 4 days ago.
There is the ongoing argument over mesmers dying at gates and being rezzed through them. Not once has ANET appeared in any of those threads to tell us it is or is not an exploit. There have been discussions on how those dead people can extend their “time out for inactivity” timer yet to this date you can still manipulate that timer.
Arrow carts with their ability to hit anywhere in a tower if one manipulates his windowed screen size is another issue ANET chooses to ignore rather then address again one way or the other.
So my suggestions:
1) Make it easier to report hacking suspects so it is quick and efficient
2) Post on whether or not something is an exploit or is working as intended
3) Provide feedback to people reporting hacks verifying that it was or was not a hack
4) Post the number of people banned for cheating/hacking on a regular bases
5) Provide in-game GMs that go go into the field to verify reports immediately on receiving them.
6) Provide even a quarterly report on game bugs that have been reported and a tentative “fix” date. (such as that bugged tower)
And above all quit infracting/banning people for posting about hacks/cheats/exploits as this only leads us to believe you value the possible revenue loss versus the satisfaction of the customer when it comes to the integrity of your game.
Thank you for your consideration.
Would the commander system be functional enough with more markers, guild only tags, less suppression, better supplyinfo, and possibly additional marker shapes?
What you suggested above would certianly be a welcome short-term fix. Just a slight issue with guild only tag as opposed to private (hidden pin) option.
Doesn’t the option for squad-only visibility cover this?
If you join a squad currently it doesn’t show other commander pins. If we have guild or private pins, it would be necessary to see other public commander pins so havoc squads can see where they can ambush and cause trouble.
Sometimes havoc forces need to be stealthy and keep the size of the force controlled. This is impossible with a visible pin on the map that everyone can see and flock too…. it defeats the purpose. Devon has mentioned guild commanders, and I’m assuming that only people in your guild would actually see the pin. (as opposed to everyone on the map). Sometimes you want to run a havoc force of guild members AND non-guild friends that consists of 2-3 groups only. That’s why I’d prefer a “private” pin option as opposed to a “guild” pin option.
Just allow us to hide the commander pin from everyone NOT currently in the squad. We can use it to make private guild squads or guild & friend only squads or whatever players enjoy running. But we still need to see the public commander pins while we are in a private or guild only squad.

I would take that. deal. done. ty
I’m talking about three servers here,
Blackgate
Fort Aspenwood
Henge of Denravi
Although their coverage and WvW participation are in different leagues, they all won 7 rounds undefeated. Besides the first week match with BG/JQ/SoR all of the matches that these 3 servers had were blowouts, the competing servers never had a chance. The players on these servers are not to blame, they all should enjoy the rewards they earned, however I think it will be unhealthy for WvW in the long term when some servers have a monopoly on winning. I’d like to see more competitive matches in Season 2, WvW will be more fun for all of us if that happens.
And I’m from Dragonbrand, I’m not sore about anything, we never had a chance at 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.
we’ve all seen what happens in games where there’s no disadvantage to taking your pants off.
WvW shouldn’t even be called WvW.
Server with most coverage wins.
I remember a suggestion somewhere that PPT from camps/towers/keeps should have a cap. This will narrow the gap from points between two servers when Server A with 24/7 coverage starts capping towers/keeps from Server B (which has half the coverage of Server A) when they are sleeping. This makes it much more possible for Server B to catch-up with Server A during Server B’s prime time if they fought smart and well.
join the top three = winning. No other servers matter to Anet it seems
Stat increase = gear grind.
Gear grind = no money from me ever again.
With the introduction of the new WvW map which eliminates the main reason why people dont completely transfer to a more populated server, whats the excuse players in the bronze, losing servers have to not transfer to a more populated server?
Should I keep enduring the player hemorrhage and join the leak or is Anet planning to do something about any time soon?! The rewards better not be really all that different at the end of the league, because if i see that a zerg-server gets enormous rewards just by sheer population and that I missed [given ANet skins and rewards history] probably the only chance to get really cool looking stuff (which is the main point of ‘rewards and advancement’ in this game) then I will have no choice but join the [boring] train and also jump servers, leaving my already devastated and desolated server to even worse ruins.
Anet, Im warning you, this is not healthy for anyone, either give us a “WvW home server” second server option or start merging servers, I love my server and guild but being the lone man vs a zerg of 50+ is not fun.
Legendary SoloQ
I stated my preference for Commander tags in WvW long ago but will do so again here in a shortened version.
I would like to see WvWvW Commander tags tied into their experience in WvWvW. Different colors or shapes would denote more experienced Commanders which would be based off of how many Objectives they have captured, how many enemy kills, camp captures, etc. You know all that stuff that is already tracked as achievements.
This gets away from the Commander who purchases his badge and immediately starts barking orders on the field when many do not even have a clue what they are doing at that point. As a Commander earns his “bars” so to speak he can command a larger group size, has more options to view supply, mark objectives, etc. The current “blue dorito” is sufficient for PvE where for the most part it acts as a rally point on the map but within WvW you tend to want to follow the more successful Commanders and ignore some of the other doritos until they get a bit of seasoning under their belts.
If a Commander can garner the support of the troops and lead them without demeaning them then they will gain the support over time to move up in rank. Believe me there are some people out there that should never have bought a tag to the point where I cringe when they “tag up” and start calling for everyone to “stack on me” to take a camp while a tower or keep is being attacked.
WvW Coordinator
Summary of Day 1 of discussion:
1) There are a lot of people that would like to see more colors and/or more shapes for the commander icons.
2) People are arguing for commanders to be able to hide their tags from everyone and only have them be visible to select groups.
3) Improved supplyinfo command.
4) No chat suppression.
5) Account bound.
6) A change to the way the icon is acquired.
That doesn’t hit everything, but it hits some of the most commonly requested stuff. In addition there has been a discussion about if it is more important to redo the whole system or provide some small quality of life improvements first.
I wanted to provide some insight into what might be required for some of the types of changes that are being requested, so everyone has a clearer understanding when thinking about them.
Any change that requires significant UI, especially any new UI functionality, is a long term change. Not only does it take time to design the UI and settle on it’s appearance, it takes time to build the functionality. That is why any full on rework of the squad system will be a large project. It is important to us that when we introduce new UI elements we have fully fleshed out their place in the rest of the game UI.
With that out of the way, I have some more questions.
1) What is an acceptable amount of chat suppression for a commander? It’s important to realize that if the system remains as it currently does, with 100g for a tag, no chat suppression would mean that people can spend 100g to spam you with whatever they feel like. That’s not an acceptable solution. I think there are other things we could do, like provide a commander only channel that has no suppression but that people have to opt in to.
2) How would it feel to have a system that gradually unlocked more commander abilities and icons, but that required dedication to WvW? Let’s say we added a commander line to the ability panel and you unlocked it with WvW ability points. What is the right starting price for that? 100 points? more? If that happens, does it make sense for the system to remain character based? Would requiring commanders to spend their WXP in this way limit them to the point that they didn’t want to do it? What if you still acquired the current tag by spending 100g, but you upgraded to new shapes via the WXP system?
Hello Anet and fellow gw2 players.
First of all i have to clarify that I’m mainly running with a commander and only occasionally do the leading part myself, though I’m playing the game since release and have the knowhow. Due to this I want to add some suggestions.
1. Invisible Commander
Make it possible for the Commander symbol invisible to all players not in the squad. This would create the possibility for a guild grp to activate their commander without stealing the players from the main commander of the map. (other commanders can see him though you can also disable that or add an option to disable it)
2. Close Squad
Grant the Commander the option to close his squad, making it impossible for ppl to enter who he or someone from the squad doesnt invite
3. Squad kick
Make it possible to kick players from his squad. And add the ability to kick all Squadmembers who’re not on the map.
4. Squad Officer
Add the possibility to promote someone in the Squad to an officer, granting him the possibility to kick members from the squad and put symbols and paint on minimap. would make it easier for scouts to mark a position. (could also be added the possibility to add an extra symbol for all officers of the squad on the minimap, but this could make some trouble)
With those 4 points it would be a lot nicer for guild grps to use commander on wvw maps without being inconvenient to the main commander on that map.
5. Commander Buff Bar
This is the main downside of Commander currently, please make it work like the outnumbered buff in wvw! An enemy shouldn’t be able to tell who’s the commander just by looking at his buffbar. This can make differences in many fights, due to each commander being unable to immediatly tell who’s the commander.
6. Commander visibility
I’m not sure if this here is the correct place to post it, but i think it should be fine. If the Commander is a small character (like asura) and stand inside of a big one (like norn or charr) often commander symbol disapears behind the bigger model. Although many names ontop the commander symbol let it disapear too. this destroys the functionality of it, cause noone is able to tell where he is.
7. Commander on the sides
Sry for the naming, I just didn’t knew how to name it. in short it should display a commander arrow on the edge of your screen if the commander in whom’s squad you’re isnt on your screen. this would improve the ability for squadmembers to follow their commander. (for example commander is on the left side then on the left side in the direction where your commander is the mark is placed)
8. Follow commander reward
There should be a reward for players added who correctly follow their commander. for example, for each squadmember who completes the same achievement the reward should increase slightly. (if the squad has 50 members and 30 of those complete an event, those 30 should get a small reward for completing an event with 30ppl of the squad) this would encourage joining a squad from an commander. although it might help stopping ppl from having bad beaviour against a commander, cause if they’re blocked they can’t join his squad.
9. Squad limit
Increase the Squad limit that it’s impossible that not all ppl from a map can join it. For example increase it to 100.
Thank you for reading my post, I hope it will help you making an even better game.
There shouldn’t be rewards. This is coverage wars. Rewarding a server because they have a higher WvW population is nonsensical in the extreme.
First rant, then advice.
Rant:
Only took two replies for someone from tier 1 to come in and tell him to transfer.
Two.
7 hour queues later, every topic is still a tier 1 recruitment topic but we still can’t tell people from tier 1 to get the kitten of their stacked servers.
Useful advice:
To defend against a handful of golems, cannons were the best call. Arrow carts and ballistas aren’t going to do it anything, nor is attacking from a wall, cannons will hit them pretty hard though. You might need to use the inner cannons after the outer ones go down.
Trebs behind doors would have countered the alphas but not the omegas because they hit for a ton of damage that can outrace the golems.
If they get in, you can use the NPCs to provide a lot of pressure. Unless they’re organized and well built, 5v1 isn’t impossible and having the lord and all the NPCs really help in that sort of fight.
Get to know people on your server or in your timezone! Roam a bunch, make friends. Two people on your friendlist would have made all the difference. It helps you become more effective, would help your server cover a gap, and it’s a lot more fun!
On that point, get in touch with your WvW community. Is there a TS that you could have asked help from? Was there anyone in EB that would have switched over if they knew?
Lastly my advice is don’t get married to keep upgrades. The keeps are designed to be flipped, not to sit at tier 3 impenetrable fortresses. Upgrades will help them defend better but, again, won’t make them invincible.
First:This isn’t a flame post or troll post.
When we watch sporting events or have any competition the idea is to have a somewhat level playing field. GW2 totally fails this test. Some servers are outnumbered by entire whole digits 2+times. Regularly 4 or 5 times.
So when you are on top of the charts know full well that it is completely meaningless…….and I can hear it now…“the top pop servers are balanced”…really? try fighting a low pop server with even numbers…They fighting much tougher fights than yourself probably will crush the “top” server. Top…ya right that is a good one!
There is no attempt at all to balance this problem.
The solutions are easy and I personally could implement the coding change in a weeks time. (I’m giving myself 39 hours padding!)
Given this problem is so easy to fix yet isn’t makes a person wonder what the problem could be.
The problem is that ANet doesn’t seem to agree that it’s a problem. Devon Carter has flat out said as much, and he didn’t even bother to participate in the CDI thread on WvW population balance. I honestly don’t believe we will ever see it fixed.

Well I started this topic because I see only excitement about EOTM, but I dont think it will be that great. At least for lower populated servers where every person is a loss in fight on borderlands.
Yes those servers who can fill all 4 maps will not be touched by this new map. But I can see some troubles for smaller servers. For those servers that have a lot of 15 man guilds fighting in imbalanced matches against 50 man groups.
Those servers are already annoyed by this and EOTM may be escape from this stereotype.
But when more and more groups will go to EOTM, less people will be at borderland and thus they will go to EOTM too.
And dont forget about “fresh” feeling when everybody will want to try this new map. And with overflows that will be possible for everybody.
I am just concerned what this new map WITH OVERFLOW can bring to smaller servers. And what just crossed my mind, is this a test before merging servers? With WvW overflow, that may be possible even with current map cap.
I wonder about you guys who think there will be “no blobs” on the edge of the mists.
Servers like Drakkar Lake never do anything with groups of less than 50, and they like running over people. Can you guess how they are going to deal with EoTM?
Yep, they will blob it.
My Story
I’m a total novice to the game in WvW terms, just got to rank 20 on one char and have rank 10 from the rest of my play since the games release, or whenever ranks came out, I really don’t know, I spent most of my time before that in sPvP. So I voice these opinions from a back drop of little experience accepting that many of them have probably been voiced before, and perhaps many of the solutions I’ve though of too.
I have to say, unfortunately, that my overwhelming feeling has been one of disappointment. I play sPvP mostly so coordination and communication are the things I really value and was hoping to find in this game mode. I was hoping to see lots of little organised groups doing different jobs led by different commanders. I was hoping to see advanced commander communication. I can’t believe the lack of import that seems to be placed on structures that we have taken. If you cap a base in sPvP, you either stay on it, or you make as kitten sure as you can that nothing else is coming for it, and that kind of thing just doesn’t happen. I’d like to change that, heres whats happened to me over the past few days, my take on the problems in WvW, and some possibly solutions.
I’ve been playing for about 3 days, and got home late after the reset. I started working on Garrison and Bay, both keeps that we held but that we’re in relatively early stages. As a team effort we pushed Garrison through to T3. I was running Dolyaks mostly, and also invested a lot in the upgrades. I also retook and upgraded camps and at times scouted enemy zergs.
We got the waypoint up at Garrison and most people went to bed, it was late. I got fortified walls started before turning most of my attention to bay. I pushed bay through reinforced walls, gates and cannons and was halfway through mortars. In that time, I ran a tonne of Dolyaks, endlessly recaptured the south camp and held it for lengthy periods of time, and warded off two zergs with the help of some other players on my server.
Having just got into WvW this was what I found myself really wanting to do, making the fortresses that our Zergs had built impenetrable. I was sure that we could hold GG, and hoped to have Bay up to a similar standard.
Then five kittens from a rival server turned up. They had two Omega Golems and one Alpha golem, that was it. 5 people, 3 pieces of Siege. As soon as they appeared on the map I sieged up Bay, feeling sure that Garrison would hold. I had arrow carts and a ballista set up on the inner wall, as much as I could manage before they got to me.
This 5 man force managed to take first Garrison, fully upgraded, then paper Hills, then Bay, within the space of about 10 minutes. I didn’t receive any support from my team mates, and I put up a hard fight, but I was left empty handed as eventually they got in, got me downed, and killed my lord
TL;DR
I spent ages upgrading a few keeps. 5 players with 3 golems came and took all 3 of our keeps in 10 minutes.
I can honestly say that I have never felt such an overwhelming sense of disappointment and helplessness. I felt like my efforts that evening were totally trival. I piled time, effort and gold into upgrading those keeps. I called for help on EB and got none. If a 70 man zerg had rolled in and taken them, that would be something else, but the way it happened for me is just unacceptable, all my hard work undone by 5 people doing something very very basic.

Looks like Aurora is blobbing more than Vizunah and Abaddon together.
At least on AG BL.
Could say the same about Millers, at least on GH bl.
not Golems Hold, we are now Banners Hold!!
Its not dishonest. There are 3 servers each matchup so you can teamup.
It’s simon says and wack a mole (the real game) all in one, wrapped in a package of bad mechanics..
E.A.D.
Server: Gunnars Hold
League: Silver
Enjoyed Season 1: No.
Should we have a Season 2: NO.
The matches were unbalanced as hell.
Underworld in our league was destroyed every week because of this stupid season.. THIS should NOT happen.
Warrior – Gunnar’s Hold
Will always love Elona!
Server: Miller
League: Silver
Enjoyed Season 1: No.
Should we have a Season 2: Changed perhaps yes.
Season 1 really messed up some things in wvw. It seems some server just don’t care to fight. It’s all about points again, not about fighting the enemy.
Your server is activ at the evening? Well okay have our border we will take it and all your land back in the night when we know you’re not awake any more. You want to fight something? Take these few twinks to fight you so you’re bored even more.
How often did i see a bigger enemy zerg port out of a tower just to take over a different tower…
Leagues for WvW made no sense in the first place.
It’d be like having a league of Football, with 3 Teams
Team A gets 20 people on the field
Team B gets 15 people
Team C gets 10 people.

I say NO.
The matchups are broken due to guilds transfering servers or trolling WvW scores weeks prior to season start.
The end of season reward chest is based on server performance, so if you lose a few weeks people don’t bother anymore.
The few good matchups are influenced more by griefing than performance.
I love WvW but season one is pointlessly broken. If there is season 2 I suggest the removal of all leagues, the removal of the reward chest (titles, mini’s and crafting mats are ok for me) and extending the season to 14 weeks so griefing and cheating will be harder.
more deadly than any that walks this earth. Put aside the Ranger.
