Remove Champion Bags!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Zaxares.5419

No, Champion Bags need to stay. Before their introduction, hardly anybody bothered fighting Champs at all. The pitiful event completion reward was hardly worth the time and energy. Not only that, but they are also a large source of the Fine/Masterwork gear people salvage for things like Silk, as well as a moderate supply of things like Cores and Lodestones. Cutting off the Champion Bag source would drive prices for those sky-high again.

What really needs to be addressed is why people feel the need to farm in the first place, and usually, that’s because it’s the quickest and easiest path to getting what they want. (Farm for gold, use that gold to buy the stuff I can’t get.) To reduce the need for gold, you need to increase the supply. So crank up drop rates for everything. Make it so that Veterans always drop a loot bag appropriate to their type. Elites always drop a non-Exotic Champ bag plus guaranteed Fine crafting materials. Champions are now fairly rare, but they always drop an Exotic Champion bag plus a guaranteed Rare crafting material appropriate to their level and type. (Kill a level 80 Champion Spark or Dust Mite, you always get a Charged Lodestone. Watch how fast prices will tumble.)

Now the downside to this? Nothing will be really “rare” anymore, so you can expect players who want exclusivity to complain. Loudly. I’d be happy playing a game where I could get whatever appearance I want fairly easily, but would that make the majority of the playerbase happy? That’s the question ANet needs to consider.

Too few players wanting difficult content?

I think that better enemy AI in PVE would create harder content and actually make the game play the way it was intended. No more stack and smack would be a good thing.
The game needs high risk high reward content and it needed it a very long time ago.
People want a challenge but also a good reward. GW1 did this very well with HM instanced dungeons like UW and DoA.
I just logged in after a month break and found myself doing Teq then pretty much getting bored again and started playing another game.
Maybe difficult content might be too little too late for many

They could tell us whether or not they’re working on an expansion.

Yh exactly any info ! Like we are working on build templates stay tuned we will release it in maybe 2 months and it is enough . It is still better then waiting 6 months for new cmd colors o_0 such a great upgrade .

On build templates, I really wish the search feature worked, Evan Lesh (gameplay programmer) said they absolutely want to do them but there are considerations. You can refer to https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Suggestion-Favorite-builds-button/first. Now, that thread was started several months ago, no one knows when or if it will be finished. Also bringing this up because it shows communication between devs and and the community, only not everything about development is made public and not everything they work on is worth announcing in its current state.

Edit: to add to that, it sounds like Anet keeps going back to the drawing board with their iterative development process. I can only imagine how many times they start from scratch on some projects.

Asura gates for new players?

It’s not a block on new low-level characters, it’s a block on new accounts. If you are a veteran, several of the level-based content gates are already unlocked. This is one of them. It looks like, according to the wiki, Asura gates are unlocked at level 18.

Unlocked? Or information about?

Another possibility is that that was a trial account. Those do have some gates (WvW) locked to them. Maybe the LA portal is a bug, or it wasn’t the LA portal but a WvW portal the guy was leading a newbie to.

With alliances, what about players with no guilds but actively participate in their server’s WvW efforts? New to WvW and have no direction on which alliance to pick?

Alliances may sound nice in theory, but I think it’ll only put up barriers to people getting into WvW, as it may forcefully separate friends due to alliance population limits. As an example, if this were to be implemented today, the majority of Blackgate would choose to move as one. Would an alliance fit that many people? or would the population cap be a lot lower and force people who’ve played together for 2 years give or take (majority of Blackgate’s guilds) to split up?

Ok thank you for your answers. I just hope that Anet will leave it lying in store for a longer time next time they put it (PLEASE PUT IT), since not all of the players can be in game every day or week.

It would be nice if they let you flag gem store items so that if they go on sale or are made available, you get notified by email. I know before the long sale a few weeks back, a lot of rangers wanted Rox’s Quiver but had missed both sales when it was available for only 24 hours

Both sides have the right to play the game they want to play it. It’s when people call others out or actively berate/degrade people in map chat/whispers that they cross the line.

I said it earlier and it still applies – simply report/ignore the people who feel they have to tell you how to play (on either side) in hateful ways and keep playing how you want to play.

If others can’t deal with it, then that is their problem and it is their responsibility to find a solution (eg, let them be the ones looking for another map).

Outside of that, it will be up to Anet to fix the underlying cause of the issue – which Im sure they eventually will.

Stop whining and let people farm for crying out loud. The rewards in this game are already nerfed to the ground. Is it so bad to let people farm the two spots in the game that are farmable? The two people who actually want to complete the event could just as easily move to another server instance rather than troll the farmers.

Also, what Joe said ^^. Where is the toxicity in this case other than a couple people yelling to stop attacking?

i agree, just move to another map.

You can’t always “just move to another map.” Very often you are placed into the same map repeatedly. I was doing map completion in frostgorge yesterday and numerous times people asked to complete the event, and every time were trolled by the coil farmers. One poor guy kept ending up in the same map, and after a long time still kept getting the same response.

I have nothing against farming. When something prevents other players from progressing, that thing needs to be adjusted.

Anet please remove champs and/or loot from the Coil event. This is the same behavior we saw in Queensdale and in Orr, and it needs to stop. As Coil becomes more popular, it will become more and more toxic, and impossible for players to complete their story mission.

I’m fairly sure ArenaNet are onto this already – unfortunately it’ll take some time to sort out. It’s unfair on players trying to do their Living Story, especially for those who might have paid gems for unlocking that part of the story.

I do think they should be more careful about tying in these farming events to living story, at least ones that can block progress, if you want to farm, go nuts, just be civil about it.

The two people who actually want to complete the event could just as easily move to another server instance rather than troll the farmers.

For starters, you can’t. And it’s unreasonable to demand people continually try guesting on server after server hoping the megaserver system puts them into an instance where farmers aren’t going to heap verbal abuse on you. Besides which, I don’t think there IS a server instance where this isn’t happening.

What’s more likely to happen is that Anet is going to pull champions from the first two Coil events entirely so farmers will stop trying to block people from completing their living story. That’s where bad behavior gets you.

Always remember: Updates in games can never outpace the playing speed of “Veteran Players”. That is the “sad” truth.

And it’s not because of incompetence or anything. It’s just coming up with new content and coding/balancing them to not be game-breaking takes a lot more effort than for very experienced players to find and complete all the previous content.

How about changing from a PPT model to a kill/event point count?

If the only points a server could score against were kills and capture/defend, it would go a long way to quell some of the issues, like blobbing and coverage. Smaller numbers could defend to earn points (successful defense) and it would be far more risky to bring a blob to capture a defended position. Smaller groups using siege/aoe would earn far more points and have far less risk against a blob. The point tick really only supports the current “issues” we see in WvW and really doesn’t condone good open world fights. In all seriousness, PPT is about the most boring way of keeping track of a winner. I’m not sure why conquest is even used for a 24/7 battle.

we can marge NA and EU.. there is no reason to separate this ppl because of connectivity since there r ppl from NA who play in EU without any lags/problems. if we marge it there will be no night-capping but i think also less important prime-time because prime time will be now 24/7.. queue will be mostly constant so everyone who want to bandwagon and stack on server will be disapointed and ppl will give up fast and bandwagon to somewhere else. and since all maps would be full mostly whole time, it will not be about covarege but about how good they are just because if the same amount of ppl
there r many ways how to move server/players and marge them but i have no good solution now how exactly

Maybe, you should not mistake the quantity of what can be considered an end game with quality of it. Perhaps many people who complain about lack of end game, mean that there’s no challenge in it for them, meaning there’s no entertainment there, as soon as you’re done with leveling, dungeons etc. once, you’re sorta through with all of it. Content is not worth repeating due to lack of challenge/rewards or both, nothing to achieve. It’s just an example, i’am not trying to state something here, not yet, but just as a possible pov of those people.

Because. I never thought that GW2 necessarily lacked, so called, end game activities. There were plenty of them. However, what i repeatedly experienced during my GW2 experience is:
- What shall i do? Dungeons? Sorta meh, because it’s boring stacking faceroll, it’s not even rewards or whatever, it’s just a faceroll, indistinguishable experience of it, of every run. It’s not entirely bad, because it’s ok that you can sometimes go and faceroll through some stuff for whatever, be it tokens, gold, time killing, or just puny bit of fun with couple of friends. But it’s not exactly good either, no matter how you look at it.
- Then what? FotM? Well, same, more or less. And i’am lazy to go deeper.
- Okay, maybe WvW then? Yea well, stick with the zerg, try to turn off your brain, spam 1 and collect loot buttons, enjoy 5-25 fps, woo much fun. No. You see, it’s the quality of it, that’s what i meant. It’s POOR. Doesn’t really matter how often tournaments you will make and how long they will be, they all gonna suck. Just because problem lies elsewhere.
- Fine! PvP then. Yea… There’s a hot join, which, if properly, should be named “Hot Mess” where all of the new souls can be corrupted and given all the wrong ideas about what the PvP is actually about. There’s a SoloQ, which is often frustrating for many people and also semi dead for … well, way too often. Then, there’s also TeamQ, cool, also semi dead though. Then, suddenly, there’s also the fact, which become obvious and apparent especially in PvP, that this game is still horribly bug infested. Yea, you missed your “input your something/skill”, okay — who cares. If yo’re in PvE. Try to tell that to yourself in PvP. #Esports! There’s also lack of game modes, balance, variety in builds. #Esports! #2

One fundamental problem with this that I have is that according to Anet they surveyed people that stopped playing the game and based their changes on the leveling system based on their answers. But did they survey the players that are actually still playing the game? Don’t our opinions count for something?

If I made a movie, showed it to 500 people, and 20 of them walked out angry, I wouldn’t change the movie to suit them, because 480 people seemed to enjoy it. It’s not a perfect comparison but you get the point.

Why didn’t they do a CDI on the leveling experience?
Why isn’t there an in-game survey system that periodically asks me questions about in-game features? Wouldn’t that be super helpful if you’re interested in what your player-base thinks? (which, admittedly, Anet definitely seems to).

These forums are full of amazing ideas, but it’s no secret that we’re only a small part of the GW2 population. An in-game survey system would reach 100% of your current player-base and would provide an amazingly accurate idea of what your players want. And I know that personally I wouldn’t mind answering a few questions here and there in order to make the game better. There would also be a great opportunity to link directly to the CDI’s on these forums from inside the game. Collaboration is a great thing, but I feel like 80% of the player-base is upset with the new changes and that is not good.

@Vayne
That is problem for that players. If you skip tutorial in a game you dont know how to play this is only your fault. The devs give you tools, and if you dont want to use them then be ready for consequesnces.

Also there is not a single reason to NOT make a tutorial and a tutorial section of the game should be THE best part of the game.

Gating things is not the answer. Teaching how to use tools you gain is a way. Giving more solution for the problems is the way. Not striping us from the tools.

Actually it’s a problem for the devs. If a player skips the tutorial and leaves the game, it doesn’t help the game. Sure it’s his fault, but it’s Anet’s problem. That’s the problem in a nutshell. More people need to stay after starting.

In that case anet should try adding more things early on to get the players engaged, rather than pushing things back. What sort of things? Maybe some sort of ongoing personal story, one without a lot of aggravating level gaps, with interesting, recurring characters doing interesting things all involving the player’s character personally.

The table is a fable.
