So playing in zerg where you just spam #1 skill is fun?

Okay….

2-5-manning Inquest Golem, Svanir Shaman, Caledon Wurm was a lot of fun. 5-8-manning Fire Elemental was also fun, because it combined challenge, risk and guaranteed reward.

Mechanics of the new bosses are more or less interesting, despite a lot of things still being the zerker meta – immune to crowd control, unreflectable projectiles and so on – and still requiring mini-zergs because of HP amounts.

But the time-reward ratio is so awful that I think it is actually worth boycotting the events after achievements are done.

20 level 80s and counting.

Which brings me to my next point.. at first glance it may seem that nerfing income is a sure way to make trading gems for gold profitable but it really doesnt.

people consider a very important factor. Arenanet dont set prices on stuff you buy other players do. The price they set is equivalent to what other players can afford / are willing to pay.

If they nerf income that price will drop because now people will no longer afford that price ergo stuff will sell for less.

Think about it… if say in 1 hr farming I make 5g I may be willing paying 5 – 8g for the same amount of crafting materials I would make for 1 of gathering (I would go up to 8g because I really dont like gathering that much would rather do another 30mins of farming instead) there are others like me so gathers happy sell their logs for say 5s each

But now lets say arenanet nerfs farming hard and I start making 1g per hour instead of 5. Do I really hate gathering that much that I am willing to play 5-7hrs to avoid 1 hour of gathering? I would assume for most it will be no so people stop buying at 5s. Gathers might resist a bit at first hoping farmers would turn around but how long are they going to do that? IT will start with one gather who needs money fast to undercut a bit the lowest offer and soon price will start to fall. With cheaper materials, crafting stuff will be cheaper. etc..

not only that but becuase people now have less gold the conversion rate for gems will start falling as well since less people buy gems and more people are willing to sell them which in turn will deter people from converting real money. if $1 gets you 7g you’re more likely to buy then if $1 gets you 2g even though the spending power remains the same, its just perception paying tricks.

Of course some might get out their credit card and pay that 5s using real money but do you really think that will be sustained enough to keep the prices artificially up? Besides if arenanet’s true goal was to encourage gem to gold conversion dont you think boosting rewards would actually achieve a better result? think about it, lets say farming rewards are boosted from 5g to 50g per hour what happens? now gathers can afford selling at 50s per log because farmers buy it and not only that but because now people can afford more gold the rate of conversion for gems increases $1 might now net you 70g which obviously looks nicer to a potential buyer.

Now Remember not everyone is a farmer thus players who dont farm need to compete with farmers since gathers are not going to charge 2 prices for farmers and everyone else. Only they have no way of affording 50s per log because their ingame income is way lower then that. So what can they do? start farming 24/7 which they dont enjoy doing or use the credit card ?

Which scenario is more likely? I think the 2nd why? well in the first scenario with the nerf both groups of players get closer in terms of income so prices will be in the range both groups of players can afford (groups being farmers and everyone else)

in the 2nd scenario you have a bit rift between farmers and everyone else. That rift has to be bridged by the everyone else group if they want to buy stuff and they can only do that by joining the farmers or using real life money.

so is nerfing really increasing gem → conversion? I personally dont think so

Oh, please… "exploiting fundamental issues ". So running around the map and killing champs is exploiting, but stacking in dungeons, etc is fine?!
I agree people should not insult each other when someone solo a champ out of the order, but to call it toxic is just an exaggeration. Anet doesn’t care really.

New players are not stupid, they know there’s more than the champ train. Why not let the people “play the way they want”? It’s up to me if I want to farm champs or stack in dungeons.

I don’t mind buying gems with cash from time to time to buy something from the store but I’m don’t find it appropriate and fair if I have to convert it to gold so I can buy some gear, etc.

You are right though, this is not gold farming simulator. Now lets make every non-depositable item obtained through TP account-bound and stop the mindless flipping whether it’s a bot or human. Maybe materials too, but will need 2nd vault for the account-bound mats.

Funny you talk about fixing “exploits”, yet real exploits in game remain – like flying golems, and people hitting you from beneath the wvw map. But of course it doesn’t affect the economy, so why bother fix it?

1. No, i am against stacking, but that is another topic.

2. No, farming in general is a way to play, which exploits a system to get the greatest benefit with the “least” amount of effort.
The type of effort does not matter in that case, since the goal is the gold in the end.

The Champion Lootbags were put in to give people an insentive to do harder enemies in game and not ignore them.

These prooved to be so profitable that the champtrain was born.

Something that was designed to reward people for doing a challenging content was reduced to a mindless pinata and i cannot believe that was the idea behind this system.

However i am not against a farm in general. people should do what they like, but not intrude into other peoples enjoyment of the game.
This is something that has happened here.

3. There are several instances in which people reported that they got pulled in the train and thought,t hat this was the “only” way to play.
Yes, some people are so “easy” to manipulate.
Queensdale is a beginner zone and exposing such behaviour to new players so early in the game is counterproductive.
GW2 is a game that is “supposed” to be played by knowing your class and its mechanics. There are a lot of mechanics in this game people have to learn.
A mindless follow the comander and press 1, in which every diversion of the planned route gets scolded by the zerg (some more, some less, it depends) is indeed a toxic enviroment for new players.

As Queensdale is an introduction area, this kind of “content” should be only there in a reduced manner.

4. Which gear do you “need” to buy? As far as i know you can easily get your exo equip done without farming and just playing the game.
Of course if you want some specific skins, then you might have to do other stuff, or be lucky.
Again, you are worked up, because the “shortest” route to your goal has been compromised, so you have to resort to some “slower” routes to get to your goal.

5. You vent your anger here about other not resolved problems in the game.
Yes they are still there. however calling them out and saying that they “do not care”, is a rather narrow perspective.
Maybe these problems are much more complicated then you and many other players can imagine.
With thousands of players playing 24/7 and only a certain amount of people to work on problems, who do you think will be faster finding faults in the system?
Players of course.
not everyone will tell them how it was done, so the devs have to figre it out themselves, trying to reproduce and fix the stuff.

At the same time people demand for new stuff.

Yes, you can complain, but they are only human and they can only do so much.
Yes, it feels slow and it feels like they do not listen (where they should be a bit more open about which problems are on the table and which not), but they can only go, step by step. One problem at a time, since resolving one, can open another one.

Get More Gold!

Remember that you can exchange gems and gold at our currency exchange on the second tab of the Black Lion Trading Company! Currently, you can get 1 gold for about 15 gems and 50 gold for about 670 gems!

How convenient…
Looks like soon there won’t be any other way to obtain gold but through gems only.

Ehm… what are you talking about.
Most of the “farms” that are being “nerfed” are based on exploiting fundamental issues with the game in general.
These are several problems that have to be addresed one at a time, to prevent unbalancing the game (further).

If player get a lot of money in a very short amount of time for something that should only give a little bit, then the idea was good, but the execution failed.
Subsequently adjusting the system to do what it was supposed to do is the right thing.

Complaining about system failures and that they are fixed so they cannot be exploited is just wrong.

Yes, there are instances in which these failures create new and interesting ways to play, however champ trains and the like, mostly in low level zones created a toxic enviroment for new player.

You as high level mass zerg champ train give the impression to new players that this is the way to play the game, while there are so many other ways to obtain what you want.

also you can still hunt champs in other areas of the game. They just reduced it in the low level zones for new players -_-

Oh and your coment about gem to gold… yeah, how about paying a bit of your money for a game you do not pay for aside from the initial purchase price.

How dare them to remind you that there is a way to give them money for their service and even getting something for it in return.

How could they do such things to the poor poor people… who just see their own easy benefit…

It`s a game and no gold farming simulator -_-

  • A massive hit to Economic Action (or Economic Movement, if you prefer that term)

Doubt it. The hardcore will just move on to the next farm and we’ll be in the exact same position.

  • A not-inconsiderable hit to getting new players/alts to higher levels quickly and easily

Levels 2 – 30 are the times you need to learn the basics of your character before getting in to traits etc. This is not done by following 50 other people and pressing 1.

  • A detrimental effect on the game’s presentation to new players (difficulty, opportunity, necessity of teamwork, etc.)

See above. Necessity of teamwork has not changed, and the difficulty has changed for the better.

  • A clear and fundamental shift from what Guild Wars 2 prided itself on offering apart from other MMORPGs: a cross-world experience for all players, young and old, that would be made available and enjoyable to players regardless of their in-game level.

This hasn’t changed. The mobs are still there, you still get an item from them.

I don’t think they ever said LS 1 will be permenant. They said the effects of the events will be lasting, which is true. I dont think the effects of an event counts as the ‘meat of it’ in any sense of the word.

Old content doesn’t mean dead content, at least not in GW2. We’re still running vanilla dungeons (ironically, Aetherpath and fractals are less run). It’s all about balancing the rewards right. If they made the battle of LA an UW-esque feature adjusted to 12 people, I’d still run it for the skins, cores and other drops.

Some people don’t understand opportunity costs (the “mats I gathered are free” people).

The mats you gather are effectively free and that is because the nature of gathering allows you to do it while performing other task in RL.

the mats you gathered may be free, (even though it takes time, and you arent actually supposed to be able to play while doing other tasks irl without using a bot) but crafting them and selling them for less than the materials you found is still a bad idea.

i got 100 iron ore “for free”! let me make it into iron swords and sell it!

OP´s proposal will still not stop the ridiculous amount of trolling or whatever that is done with those tags. A different proposal: when a player wants to tag up, have a quick poll pop up for every player on the map (well, of the relevant faction only in WvW naturally), similar to the party kick mechanic, “player x wants to tag as commander, agree? yes/no”. Simple majority vote wins.

Yes, because having a poll pop up on your screen every other minute every time someone wants to use their tag wouldn’t be obnoxious either.

SAB hasn’t gone anywhere. It will be back in September for Back to School. The original world was an experiment. It was turned out for April Fools because they didn’t know how it would be taken. It was adored so they put a real team behind Josh Foreman to make it a reality. They built World 2 and worked it into the schedule for return, giving it the Back to School time slot. While some of us hoped it would return for April Fools again, that’s not how it worked out. Expect it once a year in September, just like Wintersday is in December and Mad King Thorne is in October.

Reminder: Personal Story is horrible

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: GummiArms.5368

GummiArms.5368

I feel like there was a lot of misused potential in the personal story.

Personally, I’m rather neutral about Trahearne. I don’t loathe him the way a lot of people do, but I certainly understand the reasons for which he is disliked.

My analysis is that he filled too many roles all at once, and that some were mutually exclusive. I’m fine with him being the scholar that is able to cure the blight and purify orr. He was withdrawn, cynical, and stoic, fitting of that role.

A man with those qualities does not act the charismatic leader. The role of leader and general belonged to another character. He was also the man with all the connections- somehow able to get not only all of the orders to cooperate with raising an army together, but also able to get the leaders of the five races to sign on as well. A tough task considering he is proposing building an army like none that has been ever seen and a lot of politicians would not be particularly thrilled about that. Again, this should have been another character’s role, and easily a good eight to ten missions of personal story.

And then there was the child of destiny subplot, with visions from the pale tree. With everything else Trahearne is taking on, this more than anything else will push a player into asking himself “Why am I even here? I don’t really have any part in this story other than as a monkey to get things done.” This is not how the medium through the story is told (the POINT OF VIEW) should be made to feel for half the storyline.

The main character of the story needs to feel like he’s a necessary part of what makes the storyline work in order to be believable in that role. However, Trahearne does his job too well, so there really isn’t the sense that the main character is needed for events to progress properly in his own story. This is why it fails.

Another problem: When Trahearne makes the scene, the realtionship with the PC and other NPCs becomes far less invested. While some of the previous ones from older storylines make appearances here and there, and this is appreciated, they typically have a very minor role in things. Trahearne calls in a lot of friends with whom you have limited dialogue so you don’t get to know them quite the same way as say, Tybalt, or Lord Faren. It would not be unreasonable to change some of these so that instead of having Trahearne calling in favors from every boy and his dog, the PC can suggest, “I know a guy for that.” It would go a long way toward making the player feel more invested and giving more merit to their choices of branching paths during the early parts of the story.

Also maybe wouldn’t hurt to have the PC’s “mentor” character from Destiny’s Edge make a few more appearances here and there in the personal story missions. Sure, they show up in the story mode for the various dungeons and at the very end, but for how much their guidance is played up in the early missions, they hardly ever make an appearance after you join your order.

This, for example, would be a nice touch. After Claw Island the PC is very demoralized- they just lost a close friend and at the same time they have to come to terms with their first real taste of the war against the dragons. They seek out their mentor from Destiny’s Edge hoping for guidance and a way to cope with their recent losses- only to find that the mentor has their own problems. Over the course of a mission or two, they help their mentor overcome some of his/her personal hang ups while being able to come to terms with their own. Then after that has been concluded they part ways as equals.

Simple to do, uses existing characters, works naturally with the story, and gives us insight into other characters as well as our own.

And I’ve begun to ramble…

The battle with Zhaitan spoils game rating

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

It’s more than just the fight. I loved the idea of a personal story, and this one was implemented way better than others I’ve seen in mmo’s. Overall the PS was really fun.

But the last fight, the Arah one, bugged the heck out of me for three reasons:

1. It was a proxy battle fought with airships, devaluing the theme of accumulating personal power to complement the alliance. Fixable by making Zhaitan much larger and making the fight a run to his heart inside him, with a finishing blow delivered by the character.
2. It was the only point in the entire personal story that required a group. Fixable by either requiring the other dungeons as earlier story steps or (best option) leaving a group dungeon out of the PS equation entirely.
3. The big one for me: the final step wasn’t customized for the character unless you happen to be the one in the dialogue. It was jarring and made you feel like suddenly you were a dialogue-free henchman instead of the protagonist. Fixable by either customizing dialogue for every player or (as above) just keeping dungeons out of the PS, acknowledging that it’s a different kind of content appealing to many players without interest in 5 person content.

To be fair, I do get why development priorities have moved beyond any refinement to the PS, of course. Frankly the marionette battle alone justified that decision to me. But it would have been nice to capstone the solo part of the game more consistently.

I’m new on this forum, so dont flame on me if this topic was already created.

I’m a casual gamer, so in the week i play around 1-2h/day, in the weekends a little more. Before the megaserver update, dragonite was already harder to get then empyreal fragments en bloodstone dust.
But it simply became a pain to gather now, i’m camping temple maps in the hope one activates, and using the boss timer for world bosses. But earning 10-20 dragonite in an hour aint fun anymore. I wanna start crafting asc armor, but i dont wanna camp boss locations for 15 min, then kill it, and wait again for one to spawn…

Whats the best way to gain dragonite now? Ankittenhe only one that thinks this way?

What’s “hard to get” is based on playstyle. You find it hard to get Dragonite — I’m swimming in it, but always short on Empyreal fragments.

I wish Anet would provide Magic Forge recipes to do conversions on ascended mats.

We had a brave ANet player (thief) tag up a couple of weeks ago. Some naïve player asked him if he got free legendaries for working at ANet. The rest of us standing there with him at the sentry point burst out laughing because we knew better. There were a few commiserating comments about the poor state of his gear (not much time to play and acquire it.)

I can’t imagine how hard it would be to try and play having constant questions / comments thrown at you while trying to WvW / follow map chat / etcetera and you are representing your company at the same time, so anything you say is “on the record”.

Even though i always love to pick there minds, this is why i rarely talk to them. I can only imagine what its like to play the game you work on and have questions thrown at you from the 50-100 people on that map. i normally try and let them make first contact.
