If a lower tiered server does better than Glicko expects it to do against a vastly higher tiered server, that lower tiered server’s score should increase at a better pace than it would if that same server were facing a lesser opponent.

Not sure if that made sense, but basically it gives servers a chance to prove their worth against higher tiered servers. Even if they lose, if they do not lose by as big of a margin as Glicko expects them to they should gain points.

It seems to me that you’re more likely to enjoy Guild Wars 2 if you focus more on the world itself and less on the mechanics of the game.

Those who seem to be able to lose themselves in the world, to get distracted by things, to play for the enjoyment of the game instead of phat lootz are more likely to enjoy this game than hard-core, goal oriented players who need constant challenge.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately and in almost every thread that says there’s no balance in PvE or that X profession is disadvantaged, someone else in the thread is saying they play that profession just fine and never had a problem not even in finding dungeon groups.

In other threads, people complain about the game not being alt friendly but some people seem to not think that at all. What’s the difference?

Some people are more about numbers and BIS gear and some people are about having a good time and just enjoying the world. Of course there are more than just these two types and different people will be closer to one side of the spectrum or the other, but I really do believe what we’re seeing there is a clash of cultures.

I don’t think either side is wrong. I don’t think min/maxers or people who want BIS gear are wrong for wanting to play that way. I don’t think people who want play and enjoy themselves and have a good time without worrying about BIS gear or what other professions do are playing the game wrong either.

However, I do think the problems most people are having are a matter of perspective based on how they play the game.

Guild Wars 2 is what it is. Some people really like that (which apparently you can’t do unless you’re a fan boy/girl). Some people are dissatisfied and that’s personally okay.

But I maintain the reason for this dissatisfaction is often a player’s approach to the game.

As a person who is more relaxed and just enjoys being distracted by how beautiful or cool the world is, I don’t share many of the problems others do. However, my game wouldn’t be negatively affected if Anet were to better balance professions in any form of the game. My enjoyment of the game wouldn’t be negatively affected if Anet added a group finder into the game. My game wouldn’t be negatively affected if Anet added more challenging content into the game. My game wouldn’t be negatively affected if Anet added more solo content into the game.

The problem seems to be, that’s a lot of stuff that needs happening and people believe it should have been done already…and it hasn’t.

I’ll continue to speak up when I perceive people going overboard with criticism, but I think that the criticism is necessary. I just think it can be phrased constructively.

We should probably remember that though we all have our different play styles, others play games differently than we do. I’m going to try to remember this more moving forward as well.

I think you get a lot of complaints from different groups of players because the game was designed to try and cater to them all. Rather than focusing in on a specific target player, they aimed to get as many people from other MMO’s and even game genres. I feel this lack of focus is also why many people find fault with the particluar area that drew them here in the first place.

But I do agree that as long as you play it for what it is, you can have a mostly enjoyable experience in the game.

I have a couple of serious questions.
1. Did the person that came up with the math for this graduate from high school.
2. To prove it, please upload a copy of your high school diploma.

How about just a copy of their resume. I don’t see his high school experience on there. Hopefully the other stuff can count as relevant experience for your assessment.

What everyone is forgetting, is that the ratings will adjust basted on the relative ratings of each opponent just like it does now.

So lets take an example here. SOR vs TC vs Mag One server from each Tier.

Projected ratings for next week are:

SOR 2214
TC 2000
Mag 1830

The ratings are so far apart that SOR would have to CRUSH I mean destroy both servers by 150k+ rating for SOR not to lose rating. This gives Mag and TC a chance to gain rating if they push hard, because they will gain and SOR drop if they put up any sizeable resistance.

Then, when that week is over, the new ratings will be used to calculate the next week (plus the random generator).

What this means, is the underdogs of each matchup have a huge handicap where rating is concerned. They don’t have to beat the higher rating server, they just have to put up a fight, and the ratings will adjust.

Which server folds after the first weekend? Which servers fight tenaciously every day despite being outmanned? Those servers who keep matches as close as possible will find themselves shooting up the ladder. The higher rating servers that grow too complacent in their 50k leads will find themselves losing rating.

All in all, I think its a GREAT idea, and WvW would be MUCH better off it was done six months ago, however, better late than never.

Now we just need a way in game, so the WvW noob/pug can see that fighting against overwhelming odds helps their server gain rating, even if they may be losing by 100k points. Like an MOS rank projector built into the WvW interface.

Well , sigh just sigh.

I had lots of confidence in the changes you had made to the game arenanet until now, this is simply going to be zerg fest rolling over under prepared servers that neither have the coverage or population to deal with it, untill it becomes zergs vs doors.

Incredibly bad move.

I think the point is, yeah you might get stomped one week. Then you might stomp the next. Then you might have a tight, intense matchup the one after that, and against servers you might not expect to be so close.

The very top and the very bottom could potentially get stale, if you’re always winning or losing; but in a sense you already were anyway.

At any rate, I’m more than happy to see what it’s like for a few weeks before I pan it, and I actually think it’ll be fun.

This would be bad only if servers remain stagnant. The prospect of constant unbalanced matchups (since tiers are so far apart in coverage) and no longer being guaranteed to fight the same few rival guilds might eventually encourage “top WvW guilds” to (GASP) transfer off the same few stacked servers and spread out among more servers, which will in the long run result in better matches with more variety.

Under this system the only way to ensure “good fights” every week is to spread out, and not stack to the top like under the old system.

If you are the type of person that can only make friends, if you are forced into a situation with people, I can see why Guild Wars 2 could be “disheartening”. But I honestly find it very easy to spark up a conversation with random players. The thing that makes Guild Wars 2 different, is that no one are forced to play together, so just like when making friends in the real world, it becomes more about your personality, and not what your character can offer.

I really hope that they make the scavenger difficult and long enough that players will still think that the 600g or so to buy some precursors is a suitable alternative.

i.e. includes:
-10,000 WvW kills
-90 laurels
-50 guild commendations
-dungeon master
-50 SPvP Tourneys

+ a whole list of scavenger item requirements that can only be acquired through beating tough bosses, acquired at different times at the day, and through solo and team work.

No to guild commendations.
-Not everyone is in a guild.
-Not everyone wants to be in a guild
-Not everyone that is in a guild is in a large enough guild to acquire this.
-Not everyone that is in a large enough guild has the desire to do guild missions at all.
-Not every guild does guild missions, even if they can.

Absolute no to guild commendations. If I dont want to do guild missions, thats how I want to play…i.e. the whole theme of the game. So don’t force me to do that.

Right, because it’s not like you can ignore it or do something else, or that other people might enjoy it or find it an easy daily.

Can’t please all the people all the time.

Some of us don’t leave WvW and we don’t need the flavor of the month getting in the way. They already waste enough space with pve dailies.

First look at the patch for the 28th wvw only dailied are already coming

Second I haven’t counted recently but I know the first day the crab toss was on top of the normal number. Still think there are extra.

It’s true that good information and communication can be huge deciding factors in the outcome of a battle, but I think the release of the information will have fairly minor effects. The main reasons being that the primary people who are interested in this information can already receive most of that in the map, and people who are not in the map are not in much of a position to act on it in a timely manner anyways. Having more information available outside of the game or WvW proper will likely not cause people who are not interested in WvW to suddenly jump in and start playing. All the servers are still faced with the same population caps and the same information available. Even if people have the information, it still takes skill to draw good conclusions, devise a strategy, and somehow get the people on the server to work together long enough to carry it out. If someone manages to do that, I’d say they’ve earned their victory.

Orr is horrible

Is there anyway you can fix Orr. The whole area is now barren, after the patch fixing the “big brother” system set it. I am trying to get my world completion, and I cannot obtain skill points because of the temples. Or I cannot get a point of interest because the event to make the area accessible is impossible alone.

The problem is that the area is made for a full scale raid, 24/7. This just doesn’t work when no one is ever there. I have done events with 3-6 people and we fail them. The enemy spawns in hundreds, and our ally npc health is ridiculous.

Is there any way you can make it so the scaling is more efficient. If there is NO people at all. Make it so the npc can Actually Hold Their Own. Instead of having places constantly contested and captured by the undead, and not being able to do ANYTHING about it.

It is seriously annoying. Please do something minor to make my life a little easier, and make me not want to send hate mail. Thanks!

Actual level is not meaningless in concerns to equipment. So, let’s take it this way:

You take the crafting profession Leatherworking, so you can make items for yourself.
You require fine materials to craft these items – quite a bit. In order to get these materials, you must be in the appropriate level zone to kill the appropriate level mobs to slowly get enough materials to make the items – or to get to the crafting level to be able to make the items. However, as you are gathering, due to the easy way you can get experience, you outlevel the item you want to make before you can make it.

So, your arguement IS pointless, since actual level is not meaningless in this regard.

Maybe I am missing something, I just don’t see why EVERY food item crafted has that bonus. It is so easy to level in this game as it is, can’t see why removing that would be so resisted. Ahh well.

Why? With downleveling in this game your actual level is almost meaningless. The only thing your level does is prevent you from moving forward, and since nothing is forcing you to move forward this argument is rather pointless.

No credit for Big Boss Event?

I got no credit for the Shatterer fight today after having gotten credit yesterday. A few others complained in map chat about no chest too, and I assume they got no medal/karma credit. I checked my combat log afterwards, and nothing was registered about my hits from Fire/Water/Lightning spells or my Arcane Blasts, even though I saw the damage numbers. It showed data from my attacks on adds and it showed the damage the Shatterer had dealt to me from being in range; but it registered nothing about me hitting his crystals either.

I can’t give a good estimate about the number of people participating in this event: there are people at the mortars, in a semi-arc around the dragon’s front, and then at the dragons forefeet. There are a lot of people camping that fight alone , as well as people who waypoint in to tag the boss for the chest. One person claimed to show up for the last 25% and got credit, so it’s not a first come, first serve deal. I was only a little late (still over 90%), since I went to gather from nodes/vendor sell after completing the Siege Weapon parts event, and I had to swap some things on my skillbar.

I would just as soon skip this fight (and future others like it that may have the same issue), because 50+ manning a lag… dragon doesn’t make for much excitement; but bosses have been an MMO staple for being the most reliable way to gear up while leveling. If there’s an engine limitation that causes this, the population more likely needs to have an alternate path of progression for loot farming.

When large numbers of people do an event, the event starts jipping people. We observed it happening with Kol when more people showed up consistantly, to the point the map chat was full of angry people getting nothing for doing it over and over.

That sort of happens to me sometimes. I’ll get the medal, but for less participation than I actually did. And then there are other times, when I’m just in the area and not participating at all and I get the gold medal.

I just got done fighting the Shatterer ( a purple dragon) and got no credit for it. No medal, no experience, no chest. Some people did get credit and loot, and some were in the same boat as me. I’m just confused because i was there from start to finish (even the pre-events leading up to it), I was attacking the boss the entire time, and i know i did enough damage because I’m the same level as the boss. This has happened to me more than once; sometimes I get credit sometimes I don’t. I’m just wondering what is up?

So I know it is confirmed to be coming at some point down the road (hopefully soon), but they haven’t really said how it will be implemented.

Unfortunately, I have the feeling it will be instanced when they do do it…

I feel like if we actually thought it out though, there would be a successful way to implement it in the persistent world. Can you imagine owning and decorating your own home in divinity’s reach? I would die of happiness. Or having a small cabin in the norn wilderness? Awesome.

Another concept i have heard is Airships, which would be awesome, if, again persistent. They would also not clutter up the ground (But maybe the skies..?)

Housing would also open up a whole new market and crafting profession: Furniture and Decorations! One of my favorite parts of SWG was decorating my house. I literally spent HOURS upon hours decorating my Mustafarian Underground Bunker with random stuff, creating rooms (dining room with food, tables, chairs, candles, decor etc.) an art gallery of paintings, statues and small fountains collected or crafted, a weapons room, a bed room, a hologram room, etc, etc. The possibilities are endless, all that needs to be done is to develop and implement them!

On the beta forums, someone posted a suggestion for the implementation of guild halls as AIRSHIPS that we could pilot around the world. That is a mindblown freakin’ great concept. I also did a search on the current forums and someone else requested something like that for WvW. I can see how that would really throw things off in that scenario, though the idea has potential. Maybe there could be future maps with that feature? I really hope to see something like this in a future expansion.

Guild Wars People! If you want to see this happen, comment it up! If everyone likes the idea, ArenaNet may, ya know, make airships. Epic.

Hi, Anet! Thanks so much for the awesome game.

I wonder if it might be possible to tweak the code for the Dev tracker to not include the sort of “Since this question has been answered, this thread will be locked” posts that are coming from a few of the staff. Those posts really add no value to the Dev tracker, and in fact make it much less useful, as we have to weed out the posts from you guys that might actually be relevant to us.

Personally, I would also code out responses to account issues, but that’s probably down to personal preference. Your thoughts are appreciated!

soulbound items on creation?

in Crafting

Posted by: vincentvfx.1794

vincentvfx.1794

hello all,

i am only level 25 so forgive me if my question seems silly if i was 80. i realize that at top levels i can change crafting skills for around 40 silver. but i prefer to have each of my toons have two crafting skills and therefore not have to change around.

but . . . what i am wondering is if at level 80 i will start crafting stuff that is soulbound on creation. for instance, if on my ranger i am a weaponsmith and i create a super-powerful sword at level 80 and want to trade it to my warrior, if it is soulbound on creation i wont be able to (bound to the character as soon as it is crafted).

so far, i have only seen one soulbound item, it was like a level 5 necklace i cannot remember the name.

would really appreciate any information on this. thanks
