PvP is automatically leveled to 80 so everyone has an equal footing. There is no need for that in PvE

the new matchup system will allow you to move to your new “proper” ranking much more quickly than the old system would have, so I don’t think ArenaNet will need (or more to the point, want) to make any manual adjustments.
it’s kind of late in the current match to make a big adjustment, but if you can tell me what server you think you’d be competitive with, I’ll tell you what you need to do scorewise to match your rating to theirs.

I hate to be frank about it but I was at E3 and let me tell you ESO is just around the corner, 2014. A single tower fight had 200 people and no skill lag.
If you’re going to bring that up it’s probably best to be completely honest and understand that not a lot of home players are going to have the server infrastructure of E3.
you want me to give money to anet after those Ranger patch notes?
Lol good joke.
Do they not suck?
beauty is in the eye of the beer holder, I guess..
Personally the medium ones make me want to start leveling my engineer again so he can get it..
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.
I think they nerfed pet damage because of the recently popular BM Bunker builds, where the Ranger could just focus on throwing all their stats into defense while their pets did all the damage, creating both incredibly high defense and moderately high offense all at once.
AR, about 2 hours ago, we saved your eb keep from a SBI 15 golem rush and a omega.
Then you repay us by flipping all our camps and trying to take our keeps-.-Anyways, SBI has really kitten ed me off today.
Just because “in my opinion” they have little to no coordination or skill and just use their numbers to their advantage. Honestly couldn’t care less, but just letting you know to expect me on your borderlands 24/7 starting later tonight heheh.Ar will do it every single time. I’ve learned after last night, no mercy. Well we had to report several sbi last night for hacking, annoying but didn’t really work for them.
Sorry if a few of our scrubs might be hacking. Were proud to have one of the more “clean” servers unlike some of the old ones we’ve fought before. Most in our TS agree on that. And if any of us in our TS saw someone hacking regardless of team we would report it asap.
They built the wiki into the game to work as the “detailed” option you speak of. Just type /wiki <search term> and it will automatically minimize the game and bring up the wiki for you with the more detailed info you seek. That way everyone wins and they don’t have to code a bunch of extra info into the game.
EDIT: That’s not to say that I wouldn’t like to see more detailed tooltips. That’s just to say why they don’t feel they need to spend resources on such things.
The wiki would be a great option if it would contain the data.
Requiring that the users need to find out numbers by observing skill usage, which is further hindered by conditions not listed in the in-game “combat log”, is a poor option.
Not to mention, they also specified numerous times that they want this game to be a successful e-sport. Now I understand that lack of tooltip information greatly handicaps casuals (in fact, all players), this has tremendous ramifications in sPvP. An e-sport revolves around knowing EXACTLY how much damage is being increased, what the internal cooldowns are, what the exact functionality is, interactions with runes/sigils…etc.
If this game has any hope of becoming an e-sport, it should definitely start by going over EVERY single weapon skill, trait, and utility skill…and listing EXACTLY the CORRECT information that needs to be displayed there (notice how I stressed correct). It’s been 7 months since the game has been released and tooltips are still outdated/vague…how much longer are you going to keep us guessing? It’s completely unacceptable. And their original answer of “We want players to explore and discover everything associated with skills/traits” is a disgusting and pathetic excuse for developer laziness. Their statement of “We took everything you loved from Guild Wars 1” is FAR from the truth.

A game should be describing its mechanics and gameplay to the player in-game instead of requiring the player to alt-tab just to read up on some skill (or even have a separate tab with in-depth descriptions of tools). It breaks immersion and more importantly is really annoying when you can’t find the answer that you need on the wiki.
I can agree here. Things like the warrior’s trait for running faster while wielding a melee weapon? Doesn’t tell you the run speed increase at all. What? I have to go look that up? Why?
Why does the tool tip for an Elementalist’s Signet of Air run speed increase say 25% in one place and 10% on the onscreen buff icon? I’m pretty sure its a 25% increase but there is always the nagging doubt in the back of my mind because of the disparate tool tips.
One of SBI said “haha try to roll our EB zerg it’s too good” so we did that and showed him how terrible their Eternal zerg is.
We’re nowhere close to Ego bay, they outnumbered us all the time and they called us bad.. we don’t do that.
Yeah I can see that you don’t do that….LOL
But seriously people……if you don’t understand how the perception of what is happening is greatly effected by one’s perspective ..then you don’t understand human nature.
There are mindless karma train zergs running from ALL servers…..there are times where organized and coordinated guild groups from ALL servers have wiped much larger groups…normally the above mentioned karma trains…lol.
There are good and bad(or just new and learning) players on ALL servers and in ALL zergs.
As a member of SBI I know we need a lot more training in general as we are more a PvE server than WvW. But we still have many very good WvW players and when we have those players in groups on TS and coordinating we can be very dominating . Depending on the type of zerg we encounter. I have been in groups where we have suckered in zergs 3 times our size and using good tactics completely wiped them and then went back to pick up a never ending string of bags that was awesome to behold…Wish I had screen shot some of those now.
And I have seen our zerg wiped as well and am sure I have left many tasty goody bags too….I know I have never dropped a precursor however…because I now believe they do not exist as a drop at all….after all the bags I have opened on my way to 20k WvW kills.. =(
Summary….yes SBI has a lot to learn if we are ever going to be a really good WvW server again….one of those things is to have more of us venture out of EB more often….and treat SM as the soul trapping, point sucking, promise breaking Kitten it is…
Oh…and saying a screen shot(one small fraction of an instance in time) is the ultimate proof of an ongoing situation is just delusional….sorry =)
WvWvW is 90% of what I do in GW2, after the first time I’ve explored the PvE map it stopped being fun, I’ve leveled three characters so far mostly in WvWvW and I don’t see that changing for any future characters.
I think some people get upset at lower level players because they believe they’re pretty much “rally bait”, that arrow next to your name turns you into a target and you will have no chance against a geared level 80 player who is competent, you’ll go down and one of theirs gets up. You’d think people would be happy that their server mates at least showed up lol.
Your best bet is to use a ranged weapon and try to bring as many group friendly skills as you can. They stay alive, you stay alive.
Many of those that play Engineer feel their profession is neglected. If one of the players at the SOTG represents one who mains that profession (or plays it consistently), I guess having a representative there doesn’t always work in said profession’s favor.
Also, this format was created and put into practice by a group of players from the Guru forum. If we want a SOTG for PvE, we should do the necessary work to make it happen, no?

When I read this thread late last night (early this morning) after BP’s Pink Zerg, there were a number of posts, both positive and negative, I wanted to comment on. After some sleep though, I’ve just got a few things to say.
I had a ton of fun in Eternal last night. There was a lot of good open field fighting. We wiped and yes, we got wiped. Loot bags for all, I’m sure. Hopefully, It was fun and challenging for you SBIers. Also, you’re welcome AR for saving your Eternal keep from SBI, though that wasn’t our true intent (we wanted it for ourselves but fell back when SBI attacked SM).
The SBI Hills defense was my favorite part of the week. I was a bit disappointed to wake up and have it gone after so long, but a little relieved since I would have spent another day running around helping to keep siege refreshed, upgrading redlake and escorting yaks around. BS had it claimed, which gave me (and others, I’m sure) a little extra motivation to watch over it. We joked about it being our guild hall (seriously, when are we going to get some guild halls) but there was a lot of guilds that helped out.
Anyways, It has been a fun week for me and I look forward to seeing both SBI and AR in future matchups.

This change of build (armor/trinkets/weapons) that costs gold/laurels is something I referred to in a thread about “do we want ascended armor”.
It will be costly to gear out your character and then have to change gear once a major balance patch negates your build’s effectiveness.
On a positive note at least we aren’t having to re-gear ascended weapons & armor, locked behind a time gate.
At the worst you may have to replace ascended trinkets and possibly transmute armor/weapons to save expensive runes/sigils. It could be much worse.
I personally have only purchased 2 celestial ascended amulets for my main Ranger and alt guardian. It was not a decision based upon their current build. That decision was made because I know there will be plenty of balance patches and I like to try different builds.
Celestial is the safety-net piece. It is not good at any one thing but encompasses them all. Until Anet is finished with the major balancing, I am going to stick with the safe items.
I hope that Anet will have ascended fully implemented by the time weapons are introduced. That way ascended pieces can be: crafted, bought with laurels, or rarely received as loot, much like exotics are now but more expensive of course.

If the number of the server means that much to you, you have a serious problem.
I don’t get you people. You guys come into the WvW forum, whine that there’s nothing but zerging, and then when people explain other useful things you can do that help your team and don’t involve zerging you say that the score and winning don’t matter to you.
Why are you in WvW at all, then? You don’t like the zerg, you don’t like defending or doing other things that help your server, you don’t care about the score…so why? What brings you in there? Why aren’t you just doing sPvP/tPvP or PvE?
It just makes no sense to me to keep doing something that you don’t apparently like anything about.
Thanks BP. Your insights on our weaknesses are accurate. I hope that the points drive home harder because they are coming from an opponent.
Also as BP has demonstrated, effective use of TS is key to coordination. On average NA prime time has about 40+ on TS. Spread over different maps and different activities. Could use more usage.
Servers like JQ, SoR all utilize their server Teamspeak. Entire WvW guilds use their server Teamspeak over their own guild ones. This hurdle has to be crossed if you want to be successful.
What is wrong with knowing active particpants in wvw?
It wouldn’t do that, though. All it would show is who spends the most time in the zerg. People doing all the supporting work don’t get near the amount of Wxp.
I have used all of the methods noted above and continue to change how I go thru depending on my mood as I approach the gate.
The funniest Gate entry was during Beta when my Asura Engineer Jump/Dodge flipped thru one of the gates at the Lion’s Arch Hub and it did not activate. I jumped right thru the event horizon and plummeted down to the water below ahhhhhhhh.
On another note, wouldn’t it be cool if your action momentum transferred to your arrival on the other side of the wormhole? That would make for some interesting entertainment for others on the connected exit gate.
Which leaves me with one final thought: String a trip-line on the bottom of a gate, set up and lawn chair and enjoy the fun.
I could sit there for hours
So how did SBI beat AR last week?
We could handle IoJ and AR coming at us frequently in droves. Both servers were gunning for us, but IoJ’s numbers aren’t as numerous as BP’s, and so we could hold them at bay while we focused primarily on AR. This week, we haven’t even been able to keep a hold on our BL because of BP’s presence there, and AR, although not focusing primarily on us now, is still a thick presence in the mist that keeps us from having easy points. The real thing that has been keeping us from beating AR is that you guys are always in our BL, and have held our Hills for practically the entire week, stealing 25 ppt that we could be using to be ahead of AR. It’s a three-way match-up, and BP’s work on us limits our ability to deal with AR and so forth.
You guys (BP) have far higher numbers than other servers we’ve encountered, and way more than your server rank indicates. I am pretty confident that BP could go toe-to-toe with YB, for example, without issue, and that you’d probably have a better match-up with them and EB. I think a really good match-up for SBI / AR would be CD (although they just got some huge transfers, so this might no longer be true).
One does not simply walk through an Asura Gate..
I personally think lowering the cost of the upgrades would increase the number of people upgrading making it work as a gold sink a lot better.
The core of the problem is only a small group of people consistently pay for the upgrades. Also this group of people is also frequently the ones that do not join in on the action where the majority of the zerg is. So their income is generally less.
To the bolded part: To add to that, those players more often than not feel obligated to pay for the upgrades as no one else would do it. Their own nature betrays them. It’s those core players that provide the backbone to the server that allows the others to roam freely, knowing they will be warned when a tower is threatened. Yet they are rewarded the least, despite providing one of the most valuable functions.
An idea was floated a while back, to let people pay into a sort of tower gold vault which would fund the upgrades. The idea was, rather than being forced to front the cost of a whole upgrade (Keep and Castle upgrades are expensive…to WvW’rs), they could pay for part of it, allowing the cost to be spread around easier. To prevent abuse, allow a Guild who claimed it priority to upgrades (e.g. queue upgrade order). Of course if there is money in the tower when it is lost, you’d lose the money. But tiering the vault size like the max supply cap would reduce how much players would lose if they had funded all the upgrades at tier 0. The max gold allowed would be the sum of unlocked upgrades.

I’ve spent an hour tonight guarding bay in the borderlands, placed sup siege, repaired wall , watched out for the enemy, and when they finally came I called out and defended. Of course they took it really fast. Not the first time, not the last time. Waste of not only the sup siege, but also 1+ hours of my time, and all the loot I could have had if I said ‘screw the fact were in the reach of the 1st place I’ll join the train in EB’ like most others. I mean that is undisputedly THE single best way to do WvW to get max gold, drops, badges, karma , exp AND WXP – to blob. The current system still favors it.
In some other games, killing an enemy that has been tagged by say 20 people would give you only 1/20 of the exp and loot. Here however, you can tag the entire raid, wipe it, and get full exp and loot.. you see the problem?
If you pay say 50s for an upgrade, it should count FOR YOU, not just for the team. Each successful defense of a tower that you invested in, should grant you 20% of your money back. This means, if you upgraded a tower single handedly you would be getting a load of money back, IF your team defends them. This is good investment. If you placed siege, and that siege was used to deal damage to players or walls, you should get extra credit, gold and exp for it when the defense event ends. This would give incentive for poeple to siege up towers to the max, and guard them, because they can expect to get their money back with percentage if it stays up for a long time.
All precursors will say in the description: ‘This weapon is used to craft the legendary (weapon type) (legendary weapon name)’ (type and name depending on wich legendary it is used for).
Besides that I do think that when salvaging any exotic you get it is good practise to check the price on the tp before doing so. It’s not as if they drop every few minutes and saves a lot of trouble.
