I’m quite happy with the amount of updates in GW2, but I wish more of it was permanent.
We’ve been playing around so far this year with a lot of different concepts to see what works for a living world game, and see what players liked and didn’t like. Based on all of your feedback, you’ll be seeing a greater degree of permanent content built into future living world releases in 2013. And of course, some things you’ve seen before may return again, in its current form but updated like SAB or holiday festivals, or in a new form entirely….
We’ve got a few more updates coming more along the lines of what we’ve done so far in the vein of holiday festivals, but as the year progresses we’re going to layer more permanent changes and content as well with each living world release. I’ll toss a blog post up in a couple of weeks that outlines high level, where we’re taking our living world style updates specifically in the future for more clear transparency once we’ve got it all ironed out.
As always all of your feedback and comments are greatly appreciated, we’ll continue to adapt and grow this strategy and concept as we go. As we’ve said before, we’re trying something very new and different here, and in some ways we’re learning along with all of you how we make a living world style game work.
I’ve heard it so often, I know most of the conversation off of the top of my head.
Human: Which way to the outhouse?
Asuran: We don’t have outhouses – we have water closets.
Human: Like…latrines?
Asuran: No. They all flow into the same sewer system and that all goes out to sea.
Human: ….that’s more than I really needed to know.
Asuran: Hey, you asked! Just don’t ask me if anything lives down there.
Human: You’ve got yourself a deal!
But yes, like WonderfulCT said, I don’t think you can actually see them.
Abstract thinking of living in huts and worshipping anything they find as a god…I’d say 5 skrit are more intelligent

So you are suggesting that the GAME SHOULD TELL ME WHEN TO GET SLEEP? What is it, a game or my mother?. I hope you are kittening kidding me, I seriously hope.
Due to the way I roll, I can’t access the game much at all during day and I mainly play during night. If your retarted suggestion would be implemented, I would have to transfer to american server in order to play my game.
The correct way to “fix” night capping, (if you consider it an issue) is to alter the point gain in the following way:
potential points = normal potential points * (current wvw population / average wvw population of the week)

Major upgrade to their grouping system is sorely needed. Commander & Squad is a poor system in it’s current form. No flexibility for guilds and players to configure forces the way they enjoy. Guild or private squad system is a must.
If you didn’t spike, you didn’t kill them
This is a really easy solution.
If we had another system for more that 5 people to group that isn’t a public zerg…. we’d have more medium size forces on the battlefield.
They need a /private option for the commander system. A way to hide the commander pin AND still retain the functions of a squad. Now guilds and players could do private events or make specialty squads and spread the fighting over the battlefield more.
Perhaps arenanet thinks that doing this would prevent the casual PvE player from being able to group, but that’s wrong. Every single game I’ve played that had this type of large scale PvP there was always some kind of public commander or warband running as well as private squads/warbands.
There is simply no option BUT to zerg until they add more flexible multiple grouping systems.
The latest case of “farming nerfs” was actually a bug fix. I’m aware of this because I was asked to help identify the issue. The area in question contained a spawn that was defined to have more creatures than spots for those creatures to spawn. So for example, 25 skelks spawning on 10 points. This is not intended. Not only does it just look absurd, it’s also leads to some extremely bizarre play conditions. This is one of those bugs that’s so buggy, the fact that our toolset even allowed this to happen is a bug. Another bug caused this bug. Bugception.
If we didn’t want players to be able to farm, we wouldn’t have put in the huge (and free) magic and gold find buffs for Southsun Cove. We wouldn’t drop loot from the giant mobs of creatures that appear in upscaled events. We certainly wouldn’t have put in chests that appear after events which cycle every 8 to 10 minutes. How quickly all of that content goes completely forgotten in the angered responses to a simple change to an area that was clearly bugged. :/
On farming in general, there’s a sweet spot that combines good loot with fun, engaging content. I think Southsun had that going for it, especially before certain aspects of the content were isolated as optimal. As someone who’s actively working on upcoming Living World releases, I’m aiming to find that sweet spot and hit it in a big way.
The filter has many issues and the filter is also not a license to swear.
If you swear and are reported, you will get suspended. Swear and get reported again, you will get suspended for a longer period. Continue to violate the TOS and you will lose your account. Your choice, but if you feel you MUST swear in an online game then there are other issues involved.
The filter is not a license to swear.
/shrug
You where warned when you signed on the first time.
So, my suggestion is to the players, if you don’t like bad language, use what Anet has given you and quit crying.
So, my suggestion to you, if you don’t like not swearing, stand by the T-rated game Anet has given you and quit swearing.
I’m reading another thread about not enough end game content. Which has me thinking, we really are way too hard core in how we devour content. There’s no way any developer can keep up with us. In this, I’d like to apologize to all the Dev’s. You have to put up with a lot from us. Hope we’re rewarding you enough for it
Now where’s my Angel Wing back piece!!!!!
well I agree on 1 point!
WvW should reward more defence over conquest.. at the moment no one cares about defending own stuffs because it’s better to conquer and move on the next target than stay and save a camp, a tower or a keep.
Also there are no rewards for people that spend gold on upgrades and try to defend something.
I want to see my gold worth it when I usi it on a tower or a camp and not to see it wasted 5 mins later cos that camp has switched owner. Give to me or my guild something back for our effort in wvw.
but they’re a lot stronger
than they will be next year!
Is this an….. “I got banned for swearing and you have a filter for a reason” thread? Because this horse… it has been beaten to death, brought back by necros, beaten again, raised by guardians, and beaten to death again. It is not a “free ticket” to swear, this has been pointed out endless times by devs and players with varying verbiage.
“You don’t remove the filter, you simply choose not to use it. You do not own the right to determine what others will see, and the filter cannot ever be perfect, hence the actions that our GM Team will be forced to take on those who breach the RoC and the rules of commonly accepted game behavior.
We value every player and every customer. We do not suspend or terminate accounts lightly. We do our darnedest to work with individuals who have been suspended and even terminated, going the extra mile to give a second chance or to work with a person who has made an error in judgment. The suspension system is a model of balance and fairness. It is even set up to give second chances automatically. We do not conspire to ban people unjustly. We never, ever will. ~ Gaile Gray”

Even if they’ve found the source of the problem, an ETA won’t come since a grand majority of people will violently scream at them the moment they’re five minutes late. If they haven’t found the cause of the problem, they can’t reasonably give an ETA they can stand by.
To be honest, be glad they’ve got people working on it and took the time to let us know. Better this than being kept in the dark as to whether or not they’re even aware of it.

Only 1 match this week doesn’t have the Server with the Higher Rating being the one winning.
But only 2 matches this week have the server with the highest rating gaining more rating points. In 6 out of 8 NA matches, the highest-rated server is actually losing points.
Working as designed. The inability for points to flow down from higher tiers was a key deficiency in the old matchup system.

This matchup is interesting because it actually encouraged a somewhat sustained 2v1 on the leaders of the match.
Wasn’t WvW made so that 2 servers were supposed to attack the leader until the leader changed? The lower tiers never got this. They would always attack the weakest of the 3. Weak.
playable wvw already exists on 66% of other servers.
I was very surprised to find that server rating and volatility are not exposed in the API. instead, I guess we’re supposed to fetch from the leaderboards and parse the html?

She’d probably complain and whine about everything like she did in the first game.
The problem is servers ranked similarly to TC and FA are gaining rating from much easier match ups and this system in that is pretty much punishing TC and FA because of RNG and that is complete kitten.
9 month of wrong match-ups do not recover within 1 week
The system seems to be assuming …
The system assumes only one thing:
Every server should be able to prove the correctness of his rating against any server within a Rating-Area of +/-400 from time to time.
The more servers are ranked in between 2 servers and the more their rating differs the less likely (and therefore less often) they meet each other.
That’s it! not more and not less.
Yeah, ANet should really add he current rating evolution to the match-display at B!
Probably not everyone has millenium.org open at 2nd screen
It would produce a lot of
- Ok, score isn’t good, but hey we do great!
- Oh damm, this score is still not sufficient to keep our rating!
It’s not that it’s the worst idea ever, just parts of it don’t make sense at all.
Looking at http://mos.millenium.org/na/ right now, Yaks is ahead by 10-12k, yet we’re losing 3 points in evolution, CD is almost 12K down and they’re UP 60 points in evolution….how the hell are we winning yet still losing, and how is CD losing and yet still gaining so much?
FA and TC have dropped 19-23 points, while SoS has gone up almost 48, and they’re getting hammered. DB is up almost 30, Mag is down almost 69, and SBI is up almost 47, and again SBI is getting hammered.
[…]
Maybe math has changed in the last 3 decades since I was in school, but the numbers don’t make sense at all. It looks like teams that are getting beaten are actually moving up, teams that are winning are moving down and you’re going to end up with T1 servers fighting T5 servers because they’re being brought into parity range through this system. I’m not saying these servers are bad or other servers are better, sometimes it’s a matter of population and coverage, but if the intent is to make matches like this happen more frequently I don’t see how it will benefit WvW overall.
Your rating doesn’t change based on whether you win or lose, it changes based on whether you beat expectations or not. Based on the difference between your rating and your opponent’s rating, Glicko-2 calculates an ‘E’ value, which is the score you are expected to get against that opponent. Your actual score (designated ‘s’) is compared to that — if s is lower than E you will lose rating points (even if you’re still winning the match), and if s is higher than E you will gain rating points (even if you’re losing the match).
If you want to calculate exactly how many points you need in order to avoid losing rating points, you need to first calculate E. The procedure to do this is described here:
http://www.glicko.net/glicko/glicko2.pdf
The formula to calculate s has been posted by ArenaNet in the past, and it works out to:
s = ( sin((x/(x+y)-0.5)*pi) + 1 ) / 2, where x is your in-game score and y is your opponent’s in-game score.
Setting s = E, and solving for x, yields:
x = y * (0.5 + arcsin(2*E-1)/pi) / (0.5 – arcsin(2*E-1)/pi)
In other words, your score must be [(0.5 + arcsin(2*E-1)/pi) / (0.5 – arcsin(2*E-1)/pi)] times as high as your opponent’s score in order to avoid losing rating points.
You have to do this calculation separately (including the calculation of E) for each of your two opponents.

Ratings should represent relative strength of the servers.
THe fact that CD is being competitive with YB and Kaineng suggests their ratings should be similar. At the moment CD’s rating is still 80 points behind Kaineng which is still too much.
Similarly at the start of this match SoS rating was 250 points behind FA which is way too much. Currently SoS is only 20K behind FA in score, which is about the same as BG/JQ are behind SoR yet the rating difference there is only 70.
Keep QQing, but this “horrible new system” just brought you from the top of T4 to the top of T3….which is where you should have been.
Winning every week by 100k points in T4 was just silly and unbalanced. Now you’re getting properly balanced out. Be happy for the blessing that your attitude doesn’t deserve.
I’d have been just as happy to fight our butts off losing to SoR all week. This is exciting.

You are insanely over reacting. This is a video game. There are no real asurans, sylvari, etc. If they make a “bad salad” joke, it is a video game making fun of racism itself. Noone is saying anything about any real race, creed, or color that is in the real world.
Step back, and see this is a video game.
