Everyone keeps calling Evon for the RNG… but you know what?

WITHOUT EVON THERE IS NO SELLING STUFF TO OTHER PLAYERS AND EASY LISTINGS OF ITEMS TO SELL AND BUY

If we want to blame him for the bad stuff about the gem store that really is about the developers as he’s a fictional character, then lets blame him for the good stuff too!!

Well said. That is exactly how I feel too, only I feel like you explained it better, which also offered clarity to myself about why I feel the way I do.

It is indeed a sense of gratitude from the company that I respect. That would otherwise be lost and more-than-likely perceived as a way of bullying their players into buying gems had the offer been announced beforehand.

And no, I did not received a kite. And yes, I bought gems in July.

But still, I feel like Anet actually IS grateful to its player-base for sticking along for the ride. They know they are taking risks, and trying things that may not be exactly to everyone’s liking. But they’re making a game that is unique in that there are many many many ways to enjoy it. And they’ve stuck to their guns pretty firmly about that, imo.

I say, bravo.

I have a bit of a different perspective on this. I have owned and operated a private business of about 15 years and I look at this, and similar issues, through a decidedly business filter. In my mind, what happened is that customers received something for which they had not directly paid…and it was given as a surprise. When I make a purchase decision regarding gems…or anything else…I use the basic economic principles of utility and cost. I determine how much I want or need something and then determine whether the asking price is worth it for me. When I purchase gems, it is because there is something in the gem store that I think is worth my money (typically extra bank slots, bag slots or character slots). The deal is consummated…I get what I want…they get what they wanted…deal done. But now, I get something extra as a surprise “thank you.” It has no strings attached…no conditions. Just a simple “thank you.” Maybe they planned it all along…maybe not. But…the minute that they tell you in advance, it is no longer a free thank you gift but rather another incentive to get you to spend money. Kind of a like a “but three and get one free” deal.

A surprise thank you gift seems thoughtful to me. I take the gift in the spirit in which I believe it was offered. Had they given me advance warning and told me that if I purchased X amount of gems I would get a free kite, it would not really seem like a free kite to me…but rather a part of the packaging of the deal – gems plus a kite for Y dollars. Both are legitimate marketing tactics but I am less likely to tumble on to the package deal than to buy what I want “straight up” and be pleasantly surprised by a free gift after the fact.

All that said, though, I am not sure what either tactic has to do with trust. They did not cheat us out of anything. They did not falsely represent what they were selling…or the price. No bait and switch that I can see. The only thing I can discern is they decided to give out a gift without prior “warning.” While others may well look on this warily, it does not seem like a trust issue to me.

The starcakes recipe was a mistake on their part. They forgot to add it to the list of drops, so if anyone had purchased one of the boxes, they got the recipe free when they added the recipe to the drop list.

Just spent $50 the past two weeks on gem cards too. It’s not knowing when to, how much to, and what will be the return that is the core of the mistrust I’m referring to.

I don’t know about other gem purchasers, but I have never once bought gems just in hopes of getting some bonus gift. I buy gems for things I want for upgrades, cosmetic items, fun stuff, skins and so forth. Even after the last bonus gift I didn’t keep buying gems in hope of getting another gift. I bought them because I use them on things that help me enjoy the game. I don’t really look at buying gems as some strategy to get a bonus gift.

When to: When you want something from the gem store.
How much to: However much you want to spend on store items.
Return: The items you purchased.

It would be nice if eventually the recipes for the items become available to purchase using karma at the vendors by each crafting station like the other exotic recipes. Seems a shame for anyone new to the game in a few months to miss out on the opportunity of getting hold of them (or any other chars I might level soon). Seems the recipes only unlock per character, rather than per account, which is odd. The TP will run out of recipes at some point.

Let’s put it this way… you can easily out pace the number of points you’d get from Guild Wars in Guild Wars 2, so you’d actually wind up getting a lot less points overall. Your call, of course, but it would be a very bad time/point option. I was over 6K APs already and got 300 APs from my time in Guild Wars. As much as I do appreciate that, it’s not worth the time investment now to go back to Guild Wars and grind those last couple hundred points.

This statement is not true.

Instead of weekend bonuses the bonuses last for an entire week & I believe some of the bonuses have been doubled from what they were back in the day.

Some of the titles have been made easier to achieve as well, for example, the drinks are now spammable. You used to have to drink at specific intervals to get full credit for your various ales.

Just the 7 hero update made the game a walk in the park compared to the old days & that was before they made most of the titles to get easier before GW2 was released.

It is still somewhat true, since some of the statues is more or less impossible to do solo (such as the Faction elite missions) due to mechanics in the fights.

Also the PvP titles (or Kurzick/Luxon for that matter) might be a bit annoying with the lack of other people playing and having to wait hours to get a match to start and so on.

For anyone that’s complaining about the increase in APs from GW1 contributions, answer me this.

How many APs did I receive and how did that affect you?

I don’t know how many you received…

But then answer me this: If you by doing nothing, you passed someone in the leaderboards due to your said gain, then was it fair to that player (let’s assume he cared about his position)?

I spent over a year getting my HoM I wouldn’t call that doing nothing Now you’re just making silly excuses and insulting people because you feel hurt you didn’t get “free stuff”. Jeez

No you were getting it either for yourself, or the stuff which was promised before.

You didn’t know about either Achievement Chests nor Achieve Point increase.

Dont call BS here.

Nope I didn’t know about em but what is essentially wrong with that? How in the world are you competing with other players but getting few gold and weapon skins? You know who cares? Only people who like to show off stuff and have to prove by any cost they have better shinies then the rest.

If it’s so important to you, or any1 – buy GW1, log in and work on those points. And try getting 50 points – I can guarantee you that it’s almost like making a legendary if not harder.

They did not earn those points. They were just given to them for free. What they earned was a title, skins, and such. Have fun with it. And if the devs want to hand out some more stuff to those “veterans” – by all means, send them a fully loaded chest! But achievement points should only count for deeds done through the GW2 interface, hence please no HoM points.

That is only your opinion, and while you are entitled to it, apparently the devs do not agree with it. The GW1 vets have already had to deal with the new players complaining about the skins and the pets we where given. Now it’s another batch of players complaining about the points. We purchased EOTN and GW2 with the expectation that there would be rewards carried over from GW1. This was made very clear years ago. We have had to deal with new players complaining about nearly everything that made the game great to the point it does not even resemble the game we all loved. “Player housing”, “Mounts”, “open world PvP”, all the new players do is complain and want to turn GW2 in to some kind of twisted form of WoW. Enough is enough. Now is the time for the GW1 players to fight back. The leaderboards mean nothing, zilch, nada. No one but you cares where you are. They are NOT competitive, they are simply a listing of how much time has been spent in the game, nothing more.
ALL PvE content should be removed from the leaderboards. Every last achievement as none of them have any meaning. You killed 1000 drakes? and that takes skill how? We should all care why? Only WvW and PvP achievements should be listed as only they have even the slightest meaning at all.

To all the players who think 500 points have ruined your life because you have dropped down a few spots an a meaningless list on the internet, get a life and stop acting like a 5 year old. No one cares, bragging about your spot on the leader boards only makes you look foolish.

I will gladly give the 500 points back and have my name blocked from ever appearing on the leader boards if it will just stop all the complaining and whining.

I really do feel like people who didn’t or havn’t played GW1 just don’t understand how much time and effort went into trying to fill out the Hall of Monuments.

The money required for the Minis, Weapons, Armor, Follower Armor and then the titles. Guild Wars 2 is honestly easier in this regard. It is so much easier to get a full armor set, or to get the weapons you want (including Legendary weapons, excluding the whole one time event weapons however).

I guess I just see it as a way to reward those players who have stayed loyal to the brand and product, they have played for atleast a couple years in Guild Wars and then came on over to support Guild Wars 2. I personally don’t have 50/50, I think I am around 27/50 last time I checked.
I can see how it can be upsetting if you havn’t played the first game and it seems like veteran players are getting more and more, but it is due to the years they have put into the first game. They certainly did not sit back and do a few easy things to get to 50.

As someone said 500 points is equal to doing dailies for a month and getting a monthly too. Which actually isn’t too much. Yes, if you are trying to be competitive in Achievement Points then it can be annoying to see, but if you are really trying to be that competitive you should know that you are only 500 behind the top scorer? Otherwise it is another factor?

Ok. Here is the end of this stupid topic.

Up until last week, achievement points were worth nothing.
20 may as well have said 0, AP meant NOTHING, ZERO, ZIP, ZILCH.

Here is some perspective for you people saying “20 is alot oderrr pointzzzz”
PvE/WvW daily = 11 points
PvP daily = 4 points
11 + 4 = 15
So what, you’re claiming my 7 years of GW1 HoM is worth 1.3333 days of playing GW2?

Now last week ANet finally unleashed a use for achievement points, and thought of a more fitting set of achievement points to be associated with the HoM. Now the AP is actually worth something, they thought of a more fitting token of appreciation for players of their first and legendarily great game (I recommend buying it by the way just for the sake of playing something unique that you’ll never experience again).

Lets not forget that HoM was INTENDED to link GW1 to GW2 in some way shape or form.

Should a player such as myself who played GW1 for 7 years not be shown a small token of appreciation for being a loyal player/customer to their business/franchise? One that does not impact the game in a negative way for other players?

One small chest that has no influence on the game, or some pathetic leaderboard kitten that has no influence on the game is what’s causing you woe? Get some life perspective.

Honestly I wouldn’t care if HoM was worth 0. Some of the skins are alright and are as follows:
Heavy armour (except the helmet) is great.
Greatsword is great (no pun intended).
Sword is great.
Hammer is great.
Fiery vambraces are great.
Scepter is great.
Focus is great for nostalgia.
Medium armour face mask is great.

The rest? Pretty average (Especially the Light/Medium Armour) and could of been easily topped by some of the more iconic skins from the original installment of GW1. (Storm bow, Chaos axe, Draconic aegis to name a few.)

Now, this is what 500 points represents in GW2 time.
1 month of doing all the dailies + the monthly itself, that is approximately 500 points. BIG WHOOP.

You claim it’s “unfair” for this whole sad leaderboard thing? What about all the PvE content that gets deleted every few weeks so new players cannot do it? Hmm? I’ll take your silence to this question as realisation.

As a 7 year player of GW1 surely a few numbers for me and others doesn’t crawl up your behind that far does it? PS, you can just play GW1 yourself, go ahead and earn them.

You seem to be forgetting it’s just a few numbers that do not impact the game in any way. No class was buffed or nerfed. No item was buffed or nerfed. No one gets any form of advantage against another player.

If this post hasn’t got through to you, you have no hope of logical and rational thought, ever.

NOW GO PLAY THE GAME.

I see lots of people love and adore the leaderboards and want both old players and new players to have a cuddly wubbly fair time chasing eachother for spots, why stop at the HoM points?

First people complained about the old daily achievement points and suggested ArenaNet to remove them completely, or at least put a cap on them.

Now people complain about the 50 point HoM achievements.

You know what? Are the Living Story achievements repeatable? Can someone who picks up the game 3 years from now come back and complete those achievements for points? No? No confirmation that those achievements will ever be completable in the future? OH WELL LOOK HERE I SEE SOMEONE BEING GREEDY AND GETTING AN UNFAIR ADVANTAGE IN THE LEADERBOARDS!

I want fairness too and if people are willing to strip points away from others, expect them to want the same for you.

Remove HoM achievement points, put a cap on dailies, and remove all points that came from Living Story achievements. There’s your fairness, now everyone no matter when they started playing the game will have an equal chance of competing in the leaderboards.

In the future, let’s say 2 years from now, I bet there will be a flow of threads coming into the GW2 forums screaming for the removal of achievement points earned from the Living Story arcs, for the sake of having a fair leaderboard.

Why not take care of that issue early?

Name one other company that has “hundreds of skins” in their game for armor choices.

Any decent game, where the developer releases modding tools, gets hundreds and hundreds of skins all for free!

The modding community makes them, and many modders are far better at armour/weapons design than the fugly crap Anet’s so-called professionals have come up with since game launch.

Go to any mod hosting site and see for yourself ..

My cat read your comment and committed suicide.

This is not, never has been, never advertised as being, and never will be a game with modding tools available to players.

No similar MMO has ever had what the quoted guy claims, at least not in numbers that would make it superior as far as skins are concerned.

Major Zephyrite Lore Plothole?

in Lore

Posted by: Konig Des Todes.2086

Konig Des Todes.2086

  • you got the priory, which didn’t even seem certain that the zephyrites existed, and they’re the most knowledgeable people on tyria.

Source please, because LOR-478 merely states that the Zephyr Sanctum is unstudied and that their records state that the Zephyrites are of Canthan or Elonian descent. These records are clearly false or incomplete, but no where have I seen it said that the Priory didn’t even know they existed.

  • you got the zephyrites acting as if seeing land is the most insane thing ever, and many claim to have never stepped on land before, only heard stories of it.

People keep saying this, but I haven’t seen such.

I’ve seen only two things which could hint at such: Dawn complains about being used to more humidity so her skin is drying out, and a sylvari mentions that no sylvari have met the Zephyrites before.

  • you got other zephyrites claiming they used to live a normal life, but decided to join the zephyrites for one reason or another, and successfully did so. how did they even do that without the priory (or anyone) finding out about this huge ship recruiting people left and right? and how did people get on it without the others getting close to land?

It’s explicitly stated that the Zephyr Sanctum makes stops to cities to resupply. They don’t recruit, but accept on-comers with open arms. There’s a big difference. For all we know, their resupplying could be a small ship landing in a hidden space and the people walking to the city to buy things.

And again, what’s said is that the Priory does know of the Zephyr Sanctum, but doesn’t have much information on it. That’s a huge difference.

  • and finally, you got the just-released short story that provides evidence that the flying sanctum is no more than 6 years old.

However, they 1) had a sanctum, 2) have been in hiding for hundreds of years (no more than 200 I’d imagine), and 3) as such were isolated from the rest of the world.

PEOPLE, there’s not as many plotholes as you’re convincing yourself of there being! And if I am wrong, please provide your sources. Because I’ve looked through everything and haven’t seen a single NPC state he or she never touched land, or that the Zephyrites have been in the skies for centuries – nothing beyond the wiki’s fan entry by Relyk whom himself admitted that he wasn’t clear on the lore.

Due to Zhaitan’s actions, necromancers have more or less been viewed with disdain in many cultures, resulting in an already poorly viewed practice being looked down upon even more. As such, with the exception of sylvari, necromancers aren’t entirely too common – though common enough.

Even before Zhaitan though many cultures looked down on necromancy due to the stereotypes that they’re evil (this isn’t just something players have but is viewed upon in lore!) and their association with death and “desecration” with corpses, and how a lot of necromancers go power-hungry/power-hungry wizards happen to be necromancers.

You guys are missing some really crucial facts, the ‘fight’ against Zhaitain wasn’t just that final little bit in the end of Arah Story mode. We’ve been fighting him through the entire personal story, trying to find his weaknesses and ways to fight the dragons corruption. The 5 races have banded together and merged their knowledge and technologies and have fought through the hordes of Orr.

Just because the fight seemed ‘easy’ mechanically doesn’t mean that it actually was easy by any means. Zhaitan is dead, the Pact and the PC worked very hard to achieve that, I’m sorry none of you seem to recognise all the effort that they put into it >.>

Posted by: Shroedingers Chupacabra.2978

Shroedingers Chupacabra.2978

Honestly, as a player with 3304 hours of game play, I would only like to see temporary content around holidays. I have 9 level 80 characters but I haven’t finished a single legendary weapon due to the constant intrusion of temporary content that demands my attention. Also, the temporary content makes many zones almost totally devoid of player life, other than bots, by sucking everyone into the temp content areas, making many events and some skillpoints virtually impossible to complete without having to call in help from friends. I would like to be able to form informal groups with people already in the zone, but there sometimes ARE NO PEOPLE, other than me and some bots, it seems.

Why not create permanent content but just don’t tell us where it is, so that we have to actually go run around the world, and populate it, to find it? You’ve done it before. I still have exploration achievements to do. I just finished Vexa’s Lab yesterday, and have found 2 or 3 areas that I had never seen before in recent weeks. The temporary content is so separate from the rest of the world that it really does not make the world seem living, only that there are two different worlds running.

I also find this rift in the community growing between those who are tired of being pressured into doing the temp content in a really too short a period of availability (and please ANet, communicate in the game concerning when content will be no longer available, as some of us have reading speed issues), and those who run to finish the temp content in the first day and then whine the other 13 days about nothing to do. People will do a dungeon and refer to a mechanic that has only been seen in the temp content and you lose half the party because half the party didn’t do that content. Many people resent not being able to go anywhere on their 2 week vacation because they might miss something in the game. Also, people who have given up on the temporary content are running low on achievements to do.

Given the emphasis on jumping recently, I haven’t been able to do enough of the content to get the rewards from the temp content, so I’m thinking it’s a waste of time for me to even try. It seems that so many achievements are required for the meta-achievement in each living story segment that there is only ONE WAY to get it. If I have to be good at everything in the game to complete the temp content, can someone tell me a reason to waste my time trying? I keep trying to be diplomatic about this, but I keep getting angrier writing this and with each patch.
