Maybe you should explain how time-gating a new tier of weapons and gear would make them “so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it.” I was pretty sure he was talking about legendary weapons when he wrote all that. Ascended gear will probably still be a lot easier to acquire than legendaries.

Discussion to Remove Hotjoin from the Game

You go to solo que. Why is everyone afraid of solo que? The rating system puts you in matches with people who are of similar skill as you.

Sure most of the early days of solo que will be a bunch of messups, but it’s an environment where you can actually LEARN to play your class – instead of just learning simple combos and peeling tactics.

Most of all, you actually feel like you’re playing your class and not just another person in a match. As a thief, nothing is more satisfying than using Shadow Refuge as a way to sneak up on a guy on point, instead of using it as an oh crap button or to res people in the midst of a crapstorm on mid point.

If there were no hotjoin, more people will play solo = less time waiting between games.

Life support!? Are you kidding!? It’s trash! It’s a terrible representation of what pvp in this game is. Promoting zerg wars? Are you kidding? So many beginners are put off by spvp because of their introduction to the game via hotjoin. Most don’t even know what the hell is going on in a match because there are too many people doing too many things.

Today I talked to a guy who said that he regretted purchasing guild wars because the pvp is so awful. He was playing hotjoin for the first time. Yes hotjoin is awful.

I talked to another guy (new) in the mists today, who experienced solo que for the first time. Said it was great because he felt the fights were like a chess game.

Masterwork crafter.

I’m saving masterwork crafter for all the Ascended I’m going to make.

(Though I’m not really surprised someone finished off all the monthlies already. The Scarlet invasions alone make it incredible easy to get Champions + Group Events)

I don’t know what to say.

The deeper I get into this game I more poor game design I see. Do you have a bunch of millennials on staff or something?

There’s no possible way seasoned, veteran content designers would have made even a fraction of the decisions you’ve chosen to implement as game-play. It’s just not possible. It seems like you’ve gone out of your way to develop and maintain the most horrific gaming experience in the history of games, and experience.

Not only are the ingame skills sets unfathomably illogical and tactically useless in their currently available fixed-state, the placement of mobs, their random respawn times, and difficulties in PvE content in higher-level zones is just kittened.

Don’t even get me started on the cluster-f**k you call PvP.

Aside from the graphics, music and achievement system… This game is so poorly thought out.

No wonder I login only a couple hours a month.

I keep trying to give your game a chance but I keep coming back to the horrible combat system, boring “quest” thingies and sporadic content devoid of substance and context.

So, exactly what’s up with dragon anyway? Is there supposed to be some sort of back story or something?

I if wasnt gonna want kittening MF armor, ascended rings, amulets ,accessories ,runes, sigils, weapons, etc. I wouldnt of spent the 50g+ all the laurels, transformation crystals, guild commendations, etc on items that had MF armor. I dont want to “pick a stat from our approved options” They will be completely useless to me since I have a 2nd set of items that are different stats. So ty Anet for screwing those over that took the time and effort to have MF sets for us to farm in the world. I rather have all the gold, mats, and laurels, commendations, etc back.

But discovery doesn’t change the actual recipe right? If you want to craft any of those items you discovered in the past, all you have to do is re-craft it in the discovery tab.

If your point is that you like them on your list, then I suppose that can be a complaint but functionally it is indistinguishable.

Anet needs to stop the boasting campaign, they’re coming off very arrogant.
Fame is when others talk about you, not when you contantly shove your numbers in everyone’s face.

Being humble is the first requirement of success, because the moment you sit back and think you’re the best, someone else who is putting effort in actually being so will pass you.

It’s like one of those guys who constantly remind you how much successful they are, nobody likes them.

An ironic statement given the sheer number of people bashing Arena Net daily for not releasing more facts and figures about how well they are doing.

If they don’t release the numbers they are trying to hide their failure.
If they do release the numbers they are being arrogant and trying to hype the game.

That isn’t fair of us; why should we force Arena Net to gamble their reputation on a lose/lose choice?

How about a more detailed TP search function ?

The game has been out for a year… and we still can’t even do something as simple as search or sort by armor type – really now?

^This!^ omg I never really think about that until I’m wanting to buy new armor. Sifting past all the Heavy/Light sets with the same stats is just a pure annoyance.

Secure trading will never happen. The TP is in game for a very important reason.

So that we can take forever getting the legendary we don’t care about.

Yeah sure

Or maybe it’s role as the primary gold sink in the game

I wouldn’t put it past you guys to introduce several gold sinks in the next few releases to handle inflation

i.e.
- materials from vendors for 500 crafting
- new cultural armors and weapons

Also: with the upcoming changes to magic find, I bet there will be a lot less gold coming into the game from the ‘merching’ of blues and greens.

Should SAB be temporary?

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Posted by: Vol.5241

Vol.5241

SAB is not an integral part of the GW2 universe and I think Anet wants to limit people’s exposure to it so that player attention does not divert from the world to SAB. Furthermore, it limits expectations that Anet diverts significant resources to update SAB frequently. Temporary content also prevents content from becoming too boring.

Champ loot: wrong solution to wrong problem

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Knote.2904

Knote.2904

You’re mistaking the fact that this started happening with champ loot.

It didn’t.

It’s been like this since release mob drops >>>>>>> event rewards x100 over.

Ever since release it’s been zergs inflating the mob count in events and farming them by spamming aoe to tag for loot, that’s how it’s always been.

And it needs to stop. Remove most of the loot from mobs and push that onto events/bosses/dungeons/victory for anything, that’s how it should be.

Especially so it STOP rewarding selfish play, and rewards teamwork instead so you want to WIN, even if you fail events you still win because you tagged a crap ton of mobs and got loot.

Champ loot was a much needed thing, it actually rewards the “risk” in taking on a champ mob, which is perfect.

Now Anet needs to reward the risk for other parts of the game, right now zerg mob tagging is probably the easiest and risk-free thing in the game but is BY FAR the most profitable, this is wrong.

The hardest stuff in the game should be the most rewarding and the easiest stuff should be the least rewarding (but still rewarding, don’t make them pointless Anet) besides dailies. Casual zerg farming is pretty relaxing and fun to do sometimes, but it shouldn’t be the only thing to do to get money/mats/loot.

I want to/should be encouraged to do the hardest stuff if I want loot.

Champ loot: wrong solution to wrong problem

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: projectcedric.6951

projectcedric.6951

Giving champions better loot was a response to people complaining that champions drop crap relative to their level compared to normal mobs, which is a legit sentiment and the response was just as legitimate.

If you remove chests from champs, it goes back to the issue: what makes them different from normal mobs in terms of drops?

If you make chests attainable at event completion instead of champs, it doesn’t necessarily fix the farming “problem”. So what? People will just farm events instead. And they will find the most efficient events that give the best rewards, and they will harass anyone who don’t do the events as efficiently as the best way does. That means, new issues will arise: disputes over people not having the best gears for farming events, complaints about only certain events are done repetitively in certain maps because their the easiest relative to their rewards, etc.

What makes you think this lamentation will end there?

RNG broken. Love the game, think I'm done.

there is no streak-breaking code. I’ve rolled 5 superior sigils in a row before (from majors).
to answer your question: you’re missing some info.
first, those people who show you the 3 precursors they’ve had thrown at them by Zommoros don’t tell you about the 2,000 other rolls that gave nothing, or the 1500g they paid to just buy them and make you feel bad, or the [&AgHddwAA] they copy/paste to display a item even if they don’t have it.
second, random is not even distribution. there are going to be clumps. If there aren’t, it’s not random. I may of had 5 successes in a row, but you better believe that the next 30 rolls after that gave nothing.
If someone tells you, for example, that it takes about 100 rolls to get a precursor, know that that is average. some people will get it in 2, and some will get it in 198 (note that the average between those two is 100).
RNG is not broken. what you expect out of it is. go ahead and hate it, but what you describe is a successfully implemented random number generation.

I wonder why Anet put that scroll into the higher achievement points. I mean, if you have that many achievement points, you probably already have a ton of classes at level 20+ anyway. But yeah, I agree. It’s completely useless to me.

Don`t assume. I`ve been playing since headstart and only have 3 80s. Most of my other characters are still level 2-6.

The tasks leading up to opening it take several hours. Not great for anyone but the hardcore types with time on their hands. So why are we WvW players forced into this just to grind for a bit of gold in the Pavilion?

To be fair, the invasion events seem to give more money than the pavilion farming did anyway.

Does ArenaNet regret Dynamic Events?

I think ArenaNet doesn’t regret dynamic events, I think they regret thinking players play to play and not to complete certain goals, and in the process, not helping players make discovery and participation in the events another sort of goal.

That’s basically how I play this game as I’m not part of the grindy MMOer audience. Major reason I like Guild Wars 2, really.

Maybe they should have not put in hearts past the starter zones, or just a very few in the next level and then none from then on.This would have encouraged people more to look for events to level rather than going from heart to heart.

The hearts, I think, are actually detrimental to the game as they promote a check list mentality. Of course the vistas, wps, and POIs do also, but the hearts make many people think they are the heart of the game instead of the events.

They do seem to have given up on them. And I can’t really blame them as people don’t even do the ones that are already present.

I’m starting to sincerely believe that this is the result of a major design fault with the UI. What players can’t easily monitor, they won’t try to do. All of what you mention are things that players can aim for. Dynamic events tend to be more of, “I ain’t got time for that!” as they go for whatever else they’re going for. The only ones I really have seen many keep an eye on are the major/meta events.

This is different in more populated areas, mind you, but from what I recall, even when some of the earlier areas were populated, players were doing this. Ignore the in-betweens, shoot for the meta events. This isn’t exclusive to MMOs either; the majority of players will mainly shoot through what’s presented to them, with a smaller group rolling through the sidequests. Some in the majority might do those too, but it’s most likely incidental.
