“I play this game for WvW not sPvP!” -> “But let me play balanced PvP team deathmatch in WvW!” → “We don’t want siegewars!”

Welp, we’ve just turned WvW into sPvP.

Perception =/= Reality, go to the pvp forums and post this topic, Pvp is definetly not the focus, might have the “publicity” but not the focus, its been stated many times already, all game modes especially wvw are the focus.

and fyi, Pvp is not a “dead” game mode

it should not be based by players on map but on the Glicko2 rating.

the server already evolves or de-evolves based on this prediction.

why not apply the prediction to PPT value and base evolution on the winner?

The new system is awesome. Fighting against a server you should not be able to hold up and still managing is pretty cool and gives you a “underdog” feeling.
Some improvements to the outmanned buff should be done though, so the underdog can fight tooth and claw on a more equal footing.

Imagine your the game starts 5v5. Your team is winning . about 3/4 of the way through a member of the loosing opposing team quits. Suddenly you get zero points.

That doesn’t sound pleasing.

You’re forgetting that all that stuff condenses down into 9 or so bars of deldrimor steel. It takes a whole lot of crappy metals (Iron, Steel, Darksteel and Mithril) smelted together with the vast majority discarded because it’s not of the required quality. The remaining 9 ingots of Deldrimor Steel are made of a miniscule amount of all the materials in your list and is basically all the good stuff which you’d find miniscule amounts of in an average bar of iron or whatever.

Game Design Lead

Hey guys, here are some of the improvements you can expect to see for the October 15th release. Let us know what you think about them and we’ll take this into consideration. Some of these may not make it in for that release, but I wanted to give you guys a high level preview of what we’re working on and give you an opportunity to give us your feedback.

Trait tooltips
Traits will now have tooltips in the same way that skills do. This means that you’ll be able to see EXACTLY how long an effect lasts, what its cooldown is, etc. We want this system to be as transparent as possible for our players, so that they can make the best decisions when creating their profession builds.

Skill tooltips as they pertain to traits
As traits impact a skill, we’ve also made it so that as skills are impacted by a trait, the skill’s tooltips adjust accordingly. Again, we want players to be able to see these details in their builds, so that they can build their characters exactly the way they want! We’ll be using different colors to show this so that it’s easier for players to see!

Other Misc. fixes:
Tab Targeting Improvements

  • Now prioritizes Champs/Legendary, then players/clones, then everything else
  • Deselecting your target now resets tab selection history (aka, you’ll start tabbing through from the beginning if you deselect)
  • Can now tab target if your character can see the target (Was dependent on camera before)

Floater Improvements:
When you cause condition damage, all damage of a given type (burning, bleed, poison, etc.) will be grouped into a single # with an icon, making them much easier to read. This also allows players suffering from these conditions to more easily see them, and know when they should use condition removal. Note that this is an option, so that you can disable it if you want to (and return to the old system).

Better fast cast ground targeting:
We split this into 3 different options; so that players can more easily cater how ground targeting works for them.

  1. Double tap to cast
  2. Press the button to cast
  3. Release the button to cast
    SO GET YO CAST ON!

Pet HP split between PvE and PvP
We wanted to make pets and summons more viable in PvE/WvW while making sure they didn’t become too strong in PvP.

Launch will now be stun breakable
We felt it made it sense to let stun breakers also help you when you are launched, since this is consistent with how stun breakers respond to other control effects.

Couple of quick things Sharp.
Stuff sounds good at a surface level to an extent but a couple of thoughts.

With the idea of Sick’em denying stealth and this idea possibly extending to other skills will you be adding more non-stealth traits or replacing stealth traits for non-stealth traits in the SA line in the future? As you know that line is quite dense as far as stealth related traits go. Off the top of my head while this may not see Tpvp play a Ranger can ensure his shortbow 1 spam on a thief by pressing Sick-em to make sure Last Refuge does not go off in one situation. In another situation he outright stops a D/P thief from his 5-2 combo to deny backstab/escape. That’s somewhat strong given that Stealth is the most solid counter to range spam on a thief given Smokescreen I’d say isn’t as efficient in pvp as you probably hope it would be. This sounds like interesting play but do you perhaps want to decrease the significance of stealth for thieves going forward?

Think you can make sneak in a quick increase of velocity to Dancing Dagger even if it’s miniscule between now and tuesday?

It is of course appreciated that you summarized why you were going with the changes you are.

My body is ready for 4 conjure Meta.

The great forum duppy.

“Pet HP split between PvE and PvP

Lumping WvW in with PvE is really scary for this change. Summons that can handle PvE levels of damage in smaller scale WvW are going to be very overpowered. If for instance you buff summons to be able to stand in AoE in PvE and that strength is brought to WvW how are you supposed to kill them out in the field?

The problem here is that there are two very divergent styles of play in WvW. In zergs, this is almost necessary so your pet can actually survive and do damage. Roaming, however, it does threaten to be OP.

So what should it be balanced around? I’d edge towards zerg-based combat and the health buff as that’s where the bulk of WvW focuses around. Roaming is fun and all, or at least I hear it is, but large-scale combat is where WvW shines and is what WvW should probably be balanced around. And there, that health buff is practically necessary to run anything but a ranged pet.

Any chance this can prioritize actively hostile (red text) enemies over non-hostile (yellow or white text) creatures? My character always seems to want to kill the wildlife that’s not attacking rather than the stuff that is.

And you don’t have to be a brainiac to understand the difference between 3.5 Million copies sold and an Active Player base of less than 400,000…. Things will get very very interesting and show abysmal numbers for GW2 in the Q3 Reports if they don’t manage to turn on the GW2 China Pre-Purchase.

Where did you get the ‘less than 400,000 active players’ figure from? You aren’t getting it mixed up with ‘concurrent’ are you?

Without all these complaints, the devs would have to guess at what would be best for the players.

On that same token, posts of “This content sucks” or “X and Y are too hard, please nerf” aren’t helpful at all.

I have no problem with criticism and I’m sure the devs realise that forums are always going to attract negativity more than positivity.

Where it starts getting stupid, though, is when it’s not at all constructive. When I see posts like, “these devs are incompetent and should hang themselves.” or, “I demand you do (x) or I’m gonna quit.” is when it crosses a line. If someone spoke to me like that physically face to face, their complaint would be lost on me immediately and I’d ban them from having anything to do with my business. Their money means little to me if they have the social skills of a gnat.

Also this ‘the customer is always right’ that gets spewed around needs to go away, too. Quite often, they’re wrong and I’m not going to give in to demands of a customer if they’re being completely unreasonable. You’re talking to other human beings and you are equal to them whether you want to admit it to yourself or not. There’s no excuse for treating them like they deserve less than you do. Of course, there are those that do this on purpose for their own entertainment, and while I just feel sorry for them, it’ll never stop while anonymity exists.

That said, there isn’t a terrible amount of that here. Sometimes people get passionate and cross into levels of hyperbole, but I think most of the threads I see are mostly constructive with a little bit of frustration mixed in.

Empyreal/Dragonite should be gated

Is this a joke?

You get 2 to 4 shards for capping a camp. Progression of obtaining shards through WvW is superslow. It’s way faster looting Queensdale chests on 4 characters. And then it’s still slow.

If you only take Camps (2 to 4 per), then yes it’s slow. But combine that with constant Tower (6 to 7 per) flipping, and you end up getting a lot of Empyreal Fragments. Add to that Jumping Puzzles with a Dungeon thrown into the mix, and you can get a stack a day for the hardcore farmer. The casual will probably get about 100 to 150 for a couple of hours playtime. That’s not really slow.

Constant tower flipping is not something I put on the “farm” scale because it’s just too dependent on other factors. You need to have towers available to actually take. You need to have a group that’s actively taking towers. You need to have enemies who can’t defend those towers. Those same enemies still need to be able to take those towers back later. And you need to make sure you’re able to tag for the Lord kill to get the mats. Even after all that, you still only get 8-10 fragments.

Yes. It’s slow. Especially for the more casual player.

The T7 mat rewards should be linked to the keep/tower cap event, rather than tagging the Lord. There are many situations where a siege has to split up with groups holding different areas and chokes and one group going for the cap, and all the current system does is discourage that type of strategic play because you get terrible rewards for doing what’s best for the situation.

Don’t complain, GW2 is far more alt friendly than other MMOs. And BTW: gw1 wasn’t alt friendly either (all the title coupled skills…).

Keep in mind that you still can easily play the game with exotics. And if the time comes you get your ascended weapon.

Also, if you play a lot of alts, then it is natural that you have to work longer if you want all the BiS gear. It is still an MMO. I always complained in GW1 how easy it was to get the max stats gear. It was so boring afterwards (still a great game though).

Colin Johnson plans for this to be the last tier of gear. Exotic was just to easy to ascertain and anet had collectively come to the decision to try at it again. Googling quotes doesn’t help your cause. We all know what they said and they know what they said.

So I’ve been playing Neverwinter Online along side this for a few months now and the other day I was comparing the two in my head, the way ya do, and realized that as much as I like some of the stuff it does and GW2 doesn’t – the way they gather resources, secret doors in dungeons, thieves can find traps – the game didn’t have any good memories for me.

In GW2 I vividly remember the first time we fought a Champion in the Swamp at Queensdale. I remember storming the new island to fight the Karka and the massive battles we went through – that was also the first time I played my Thief as a res spec. I remember our first Hold the Line mission and none of us having a clue what to do until we all started working together (and how that was one of the best times I’ve ever had in an MMO). And I also remember exploring Divinity’s Reach and how vast and beautiful the city was; finally finishing a jumping puzzle I’d been tangling with for weeks and getting the most amazing view; the first steps into Orr where you see the battlefronts, the war machines, the flying ships and it all takes your breath away.

I remember stumbling on Ebonhawke completely by accident, and climbing the fallen walls in Ascalon. Visiting places I knew from the first game and seeing how they’ve changed.

In Neverwinter Online I remember … doing a five man dungeon by myself. And … that’s it. It’s not particularly beautiful, getting from point A to B isn’t interesting and almost never makes you want to stop and just look around. I’m a compulsive explorer, but in NW I know there’s almost never a reason to go digging in the dark corners of the map – usually it’s just alot of wasted effort and fights which start getting pretty old.

Some of the quests are fun, but most of the time the same ole formula and even the same maps just recolored. The Player Made Adventures are a real selling point, I’ll give ‘em that, but when the marketing strategy of your game is, “the players will make it better” there’s something wrong.

And it’s not just Neverwinter, but alot of MMOs where there was so little that jumped out and grabbed me and lodged itself in my mind.

The Guild Wars brand has always had Heart, like it wants you there and was made with you in mind. There aren’t many games what do that, especially in the last five years or so.

So, yeah, the game has some problems and some things I wish would change and some things it could do better. But I won’t trade it for anything else on the market, and the memories will keep pulling me back.

I’m sorry I stepped outta yer box, don’ worry, if
ya whine enough they’ll put me right back.
