For the rewards

Seriously, pretty soon this game will have more weapons/armor originating from the gem store than from the actual game.

Oh well, the woes of a F2P game I suppose.

Are people OK with this? I’d actually almost prefer at this rate to not have new stuff added if it’s only gem store based.

What happened to doing a cool quest line or killing a difficult boss to get a weapon skin in games?

First of all, let me tell that I think this LS is pretty cool : 3 new missions, a new area, new items… And the possibility to do the achivement whenever we want is great !

But why are you still adding some farm features ? If I want to get all the new recipes, I have to gather 1850 geodes (in the best case). And the event gives me above 3~4 geodes, so it will take a long time to gather all of them :/ Or maybe there is another way, but I really don’t find it

That stupid farming sytem was my biggest complain conerning the previous LS, and it seems that it will still be there =(

5 slabs of poultry meat

12 t5 claw
3 t6 claw
4 green items

11 junk sharp talons

Honestly expected more meat. Raptors may indeed be better.

They (anet) have a habit of doing this with recipes. Maybe they just pull numbers out of a hat to decide the quantities of ingredients used in some of the recent recipes.

It reminds me of this comedian Brian Regan, he did a bit about the serving size of Fig Newton’s. The joke was the serving size is like 2 newtons. So he is pretending he is the guy in the factory talking to another employee going “Hah, I put this serving size on the package as a joke but it went out like that….”

Kind of how these recipes are made. Someone writes it up as a joke but it “accidently” goes out like that.

I’ve been waiting for some power/condition duration for my engineer since I hit 80 on him. And finally, in the form of Prickly Pear Stuffed Nopale, I’ve got it. Unfortunately, it’s an account bound food. No problem, though, since I’ve level Cooking on each of my characters.

So I grab the recipe from the vendor and learn it on my engineer and go to cook me up a dozen or so of these bad boys. And…each one takes 20 prickly pears? That’s…a lot. They also take 5 napole. So that’s 5 of the common cactus yield and 20 of the rare? I can’t help but feel whomever inputted these values for this patch got them mixed up. Either way, for a 30 minute food that doesn’t offer any statistical bonus over the other common level 80 foods, 20 prickly pears seems prohibitively high.

These are, after all, consumables…they’re designed to be used. But with a cost as high at that, I’m going to wind up locking them away in some guarded vault along with the rest of my most cherished possession.

Warning: This is purely a QQ type thread

Last summer when perplexity runes first came out, I got a set for my thief. To gear said thief with condition gear, I used the WvW merchants exotics. Little did I know nearly a year later, that this gear cannot ever be salvaged. I have no intention of seriously playing condition thief ever again, and now I am stuck with 60 gold trapped in a character, just rotting away for all time. It wouldn’t be an issue if the upgrade extractor didn’t remove all the profit salvaging in the first place.
he
Now for the depression. If I had sold all of those runes, and the 120is gold worth of stuff I had on the TP sold in the next few days, I’d be able to complete my legendary, provided the precursor doesn’t double in price over night.

Honestly, why can’t ANET put a warning label for stuff like that? I mean it makes perfect sense so you can’t get free melandru runes from karma armor, but WvW badge armor? That doesn’t come with a rune to begin with, so I can’t think of any reason why this absurd bullkitten is inplace.
Oh well. I guess its time to rot in the catacombs of ascalon and the embrace of sorrow for just a few days more.. a few days that could’ve been avoided if you could salvage WvW badge armor….

i am a melee ranger. i don’t know if we are good in zergs in WvW or not. haven’t dabbled in that yet.. but melee rangers are great for roaming and sPvP. if i sucked i wouldn’t be spending 8-10 hours a day pvping i have never really used a bow unless it was for a boss that everyone needs long range. so i cant comment on bows.there are a lot of videos of melee rangers roaming in WvW taking on 1-4 people at a time and doing fantastic. melee ranger is all about evades yes other classes hit harder but that doesn’t matter if they cant hit you takes lots and lots of practice

I’m pretty sure the relevance of those videos have been diminished as time goes by. Idk what obscure footage you’ve seen recently that shows ranger outperforming multiple opponents but I dare say those might be black-swans.

This game has been out for so long that most people are good with their main profession now. So I write this with the assumption that the human factor is negligible when comparing the power of different professions in GW2. Also, i’m referring to the game content where the majority of the GW2 community participates, WvW.

Major problems:
1) Extraordinary physical damage cannot be achieved without becoming completely glass. When a Ranger specs for highest possible damage, they are still going to lose to to others that also spec for max damage. They have no damage mitigation, and no escape tool in this build.

2)Every other profession is designed to be hard counter to Ranger. Blind/cripple/chill/immobilize are the conditions that prevent kiting and they exist in abundance. They are easily applied and kept on nearly permanently. Range battles don’t happen unless of terrain limitations because gap closing skills are the length of the bow range. Meaning, the range advantage isn’t significant.

3)Melee Ranger is terrible. Where other classes can hit harder at melee, ranger hits less damage guaranteed.

4)The incentive for ranger is to play a variation of condition bunker. Unfair, since any other class can freely play with any build well.

5)The pet is a failed mechanic. It is not reliable because it’s too random and too distracting. You have to be lucky to have it perform in your favor and this happens rarely. Not only is it a failed mechanic, it is a net deficit to have to use it 100% of the time.

I am absolutely dumbfounded.

As a long time ranger throughout GW1 and GW2’s lifetime I have the utmost confusion with which direction the Ranger is going in.

The best Rangers have ever had was an extremely specific teamcomp BM Barrage pet for FoW. And the ability to solo farm using traps in “some” areas, though this was always considered an exploit. That’s it. No place in UW HM, no place in DoA HM, and even when Rangers were invited into top tier content, it was using a specific build that revolved around another weaponset or second profession.

Coming into GW2..

I won’t even go into the changes that the ranger has gone through in GW2 – because it will remind me of when the short-bow was viable (quicker shots and longer reach) and that would just tear me up. We all know the current state of them:

- Weapon sets don’t mix (you have to go GS if you go LS e.g.)
- Traits need a revamp. Warrior has one trait that gives both 20% cooldown on rifle and piercing projectiles.. we have to separate traits for this….
- Our bows have little use in dungeons or fractals and therefore anyone wanting to use them have little use in comparison to another class.
- It still completely baffles me that to utilise the rangers mobility we need to… put bows away and get out the melee weapon. ?? You can legitimately kite better with a melee set up that a ranged one.
- Will pets ever be viable in top tier content

I mean the changes we want arent to improve things, to make the fun, more fun. And it’s not. There’s nothing fun about being kicked out of dungeon parties or searching for ages, there’s nothing fun about bringing nothing to zergs, there’s nothing fun about roaming with bows and getting your kitten handed to you. We want to be VIABLE. It’s not like we’ve ordered a medium-rare steak at a restaurant and been given a medium and are demanding our money back. We’ve been given a wet noodle on a plate and want a VIABLE meal. This isn’t an unfair request.

I want a viable build (where at least one weapon is a bow) for WvW, PvP and Dungeons/Frac. The reason I made this post is, looking at the history of the ranger I am extremely pessimistic they can deliver on what I consider to me a basic requirement. Can anyone else see things getting better?

I can not really see many good things in the future of the profession as ANet is terrified of both power creep and losing players. The first mean that they’ve hinted (more or less) that the ranger closer to the place they want it in and the other profession are the ones needed back in line. The later causes problems as negative impact balancing (nerfs if you are convinced [insert class/trait/skill] is not an issue) can lead to a loss of players.
We keep getting mixed messages from Anet like “The strength of the ranger being able to build himself one way (offensively or defensively), while have a pet that goes the other way” (paraphrasing Mr. Cartwrights summary video) then receiving nearly complete reduction of all pet damage.

I do not want to be so pessimistic, but the past year has basically showed me that:

1) Anet vision of the ranger entirely different from (at least a portion of) the player base.
2) The (entire maybe) balance team has been replace since the original design and the current team is at a lost of what to do with ranger or dislike most of the existing framework while knowing that it is not possible to redesign the profession from the ground up

Pets have been hidden due to rising Player complaints.

Is there any hope?

I am of the opinion though that a ranger player has to work their kitten off, to achieve what some classes’ can do just by rolling their face on the keyboard.

While it’s true rangers can keep up with the best of them, not all classes were made equal and ranger is less equal than others.

Right, so you say that the crybaby OP should not listen to me, but rather you tell him ranger sucks, is flawed, elite sucks, cannot do condition builds either….

I…. am confused now….

Telling someone to reroll just because he has a different (and reasonable) opinion is not a convincing method to deal with people. So no, if your only statement is to reroll already, he shouldn’t listen to you.

right so, someone who are convinced that the class he plays sucks and is so insecure about his own choice that he has to ask the most skeptical and cynical part of the public if he did the right thing, well, REROLL NOW!!!

If you are too insecure to even stick by your own choice, you should just quit.

If half the weapons the ranger has are useless (or atleast not on par with counterparts from other classes), than yes, it’s his good right to be disappointed. Just becuase you enjoy all that inflexible niche builds, than go ahead, have a nice day. But if someone claims that the archer role of the ranger should be on par (and the ranger is the archer of GW2) with the rest of the game, than don’t be a kitten and call him bad.

“Ranger state…we still suck?”

Should be

“Ranger state… Am I playing one properly?”

Sometimes, that is the real question to ask.

We have just one viable DPS weapon for PvE and that’s the sword. At the same time, the sword is the most difficult weapon to use. Not to mention that the pet can kitten things up badly. So yeah, there is still a lot of room for improvements.

"Guard" Ranger shout

in Ranger

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

Is the skill clunky because the cast time? Isn’t that kind of a pointless argument because that means that every skill in the game that has a cast time is clunky….. Just Because it has a cast time?

Or is it because its classified as a shout, and because its a shout, its supposed to have a uber fast, insta cast time….seriously? It has a 15 second cooldown (12 traited), and it is very easy to get enough boon duration to stack on perma swiftness and especially perma regen with it, as well as perma protection for your pet, and if you have the right runes even remove a condition every 13 seconds.

I would say that the 1 second cast time is way more than enough of a trade off, clunky casting animation and all.

It’s clunky, the shouts use doesn’t warrant a cast time, and if ANY shout warranted a cast time it would be “Fear Me!” and “Save Yourself!” not a shout that just repositions your pet, granting it stealth and protection, i mean kitten, how does THAT need a cast time but an AoE 3s Fear, or AoE condi purge + give caster every boon in the game NOT?

Also, If Guard didn’t have a cast time it’d be an extremely useful skill to have because every 15s you could essentially reposition your pet, make it tankier, and even use it in synergy with your pets F2, it would increase in usefulness significantly where as atm if you want to keep up “perma regen and swiftness” with this shout you’re using 1s for what is a very minimal effect.

IMO, the discussion on pets is becoming overcomplicated. Why not just redistribute the power, fix the F2 timing, and keep them as-is? The pet is not the problem if you swap it, its the pet hitting things that is a problem.

Also I am not super happy with the idea of stow buffs and even less happy with a perma stow. The pet is part of me as a Ranger, it is one of the core things of the class.

You may not be happy about permastowing. I would be absolutely. Furthermore, if you could stow your pet, you could still use it like you are used to. And people like me, who don’t want to rely on the pet can stow it. Simple as that.

An opt out for the pet totally breaks the spirit of the class. There are other classes (see: warrior) if you want to do big damage with no pet reliance.

Pet needs to be out, and there needs to be good reason to use more than a select few. They all have unique abilities, but they are so unresponsive that the utilities are useless. If you redistribute power and make the pet a sole utility provider then you get the best of both worlds. If it dies, the most you lose is the F2 ability.

If anything, the most annoying thing for me about the pet being out is going into combat mode when it gets hit. If that could be separated then I see no real downside to having what amounts to an animated utility slot running around.

In every other situation besides a zerg you should be able to keep your pet alive a good majority of the time by paying attention and swapping it.

Also, if we are discussing adding stow buffs, why not just add the micromanaging to something else…like the innate pet ability we currently cannot control? Call it an F5 skill if you want, just let us use skills like wolf knockdown on demand.

Ranger Design Philosophy: Please keep this in mind when posting feedback.
The Ranger is a resilient profession that excels at skirmishing by drawing from nature to support themselves as well as their allies. Alongside their pet, they have some of the best single target and sustained damage that will whittle their opponents down.

Allie if is isn’t too much of a bother could we perhaps get the exact definition (as the designers are using) for the terms “resilient” and “sustained” as the former is slightly ambiguous and the later is thrown around the forums without clear use.

Forgive me if this is rude, but what exactly is the point of insisting that a proposal be tied to a particular game mode in a profession balance thread? Any substantial change to the profession will affect everything, and we’ve already been told repeatedly that ArenaNet does not want to split skills between the three game modes. Most posts here already read PvX because their players correctly understand this; I saw at least one saying “PvP if I have to choose” which is in the same spirit. There may be minor balance tweaks proposed that would involve small splits between sPvP and PvE/WvW mechanics, but those would affect all game types as well.

There’s no good reason to use game mode in this thread. It just takes up space. Leave it out.

GameMode: PvX. Although you suggest only one game mode, I believe the following should apply to all game modes. Edit: But if necessary, PvP.

This proposal focuses on improvements to Master and Grandmaster Beast Mastery traits to improve pet performance.

General Pet Improvements

Change: Increase pet movement speed by 10%-15%. Replace Agility Training (Skirmishing-AdeptTier: Increased pet speed) with Vigorous Training, which was previously located in BeastMastery-MasterTier.
Reasoning: Pets have a hard time sticking to their target since they can’t attack and move at the same time. They can also have a hard time getting to the ranger’s side due to routing issues. Slightly increasing the speed of pets would help increase their damage (sticking to target), reliability (it is where you expect it to be), and survivability (it will get out of AoE faster when using F3). Agility Training is now mostly redundant, so it is being replaced with a viable alternative from Beast Mastery, which makes room for a MasterTier Beast Mastery trait. However, feel free to add the remaining 15%-20% speed increase from Agility Training to a different trait such as Natural Healing, a grandmaster Beast Mastery trait.

Beast Mastery Traits

The focus of these changes to provide some utility and/or survivability to pets via trait options instead of raw attribute changes. Pet AI is faulty, however there are instances where it works and it works extremely well (25 stacks of might from Rampage as One + Feline Pet). Pure stat increases would make pets overpowered in these instances. Instead, allow rangers the option to make their pet more sturdy, but require trait investment for balance.

Combined Traits: Combine Rending Attacks, Stability Training, and Intimidation Training (Beast Mastery master tier traits) into a single trait. Introduce 2D family symbols for each pet type (ursine, feline, etc) to aid players in figuring out which bonus a specific pet would get. Give Moas an effect (they are currently excluded). Have the tooltip function like the Elementalist’s Evasive Arcana trait where you right-click to view all the effects.
Reasoning: Having these traits separated makes it unattractive to mix different types of pets, hurting build diversity. Combining them will allow for new build options and make space for new traits.

New Trait: Beastmastery-MasterTier: Evasive Bond: Whenever you dodge, your pet gains Evasive Bond, allowing it to evade all attacks. Evasive bond is a buff that doesn’t interfere with the pet, similar in implementation to Master’s Bond.
Counterplay: Using weakness on the ranger to reduce its number of dodges, thus reducing the number of times this trait triggers. Or immobilizing the ranger, thus preventing dodging completely.

New Trait: BeastMastery-MasterTier: Cleansing Swap: When you swap pets, you lose 2 conditions. Internal cooldown of 10 seconds.
Reasoning: Gives rangers a good option for mobile condition removal outside of Empathic Bond.
Counterplay: When the ranger swaps their pet, that pet loses any boons it has.

Moved Trait: Zephyr’s Speed: Moved the Grand Master trait Zephyr’s Speed to MasterTier. Reduced quickness to 2 seconds to compensate.
Reasoning: Quickness is a strong effect, but is usually not worth investing 30 points in order to get it. Moving this trait to Master tier would make it more attractive and allow room for a new grandmaster trait.

New Trait: BeastMastersy-GrandMasterTier: Camaraderie: When you swap pets, the inactive pet gains the same boons as the active pet (boon values are capped). For example, if the active pet has 25 stacks of might for 30 seconds, the inactive pet would get 3 stacks of might for 10 seconds (cap value). If the pet has 50 seconds of regen, the pet gets 5 seconds (cap value).
Reasoning: Increases the amount of punishment pets can take via boon sharing, while reducing the penalty for pet swapping.
Counterplay: If you swap when your pet is dead, there are no boons to copy.

These traits would give rangers the ability to have sturdier pets. Important to note is that since these six traits compete for the same two slots, some decision making will be necessary when creating a build.
