Ironically, its a test that many hardcore WvWers wanted – no limitation on AoE.
Sensible people knew it would be disastrous but nope, many has been adamant that specific players are supposed to wreck a zerg (be it a meteor storm with no AoE cap or a banner). Bet they are celebrating now. Well, until they are on the recieving end.
Nobody asked to test uncapped AOE with such high damage. When you remove player caps on AOE, you’re supposed to lower the damage, not quadruple it. Having played DAOC and know exactly what players asked for, nobody asked for these overpowered offensive & defensive banners that do not even utilize player/class skills.

I’m firmly of the belief that this is the “massive WvW update” that Anet is talking about; megaserver coming to WvW, no more server vs server. Borderlands and EBG.
If this happens, I’m pretty sure I’ll follow my guild leader and uninstall. And no, you can’t have my stuff because it’s all account and soulbound. Except the gold, and I know who I’ll give that to already.
They " fixed" this yeah, aswell clipping walls. But like i use to say when people bring these bugs up: Don’t worry we get PPK!

My question is, where did all the wvw’ers go? As far as I know, no other game has a decent WvW gamemode. Are they all just playing Civ?
Actually, the quite demotivated Da Pain Train leadership (wvw guild on Deso, you know, Ins and such) is playing Planetside 2. Logging in mainly for recuperating the daily lootbag and waving to other people. One brave soul still checks the guild hall updates. Banners piling up.
core mesmer is great for map exploration, it has access to perma swiftness, portal, blink and double blink/portal when needed.
Permaswiftness only if you sacrifice a utility and an offhand weapon…
Mesmer is awful for map exploration. We’re fairly slow, we do awful dps to rapidly dying mobs because so much of our damage is locked into illusions that die with their targets. The only class that might be worse than mesmer is guardian, but at least they can do damage easily.
shatter mesmer is also ok in spvp, just pop on some twitch streams …

Hahahaha YES! Here’s a fix for the population issues. The upper 3 tiers get Desert BL maps (you know, because they require real skill and all that). The tiers from 4 down get Alpine BL maps. THAT is how they can get people to transfer down.
Just bring back Alpine. Test Desert BL for beta weekends. Or leave it for T1 servers.
It might of been a good concept. But it didn’t work out.
Please remember that we don’t need new WVW maps. Just need lag fixed. We come here for the fights, not the scenery.

Two years ago; a year ago; even five months ago… PPK would have been something worthwhile to debate.
But now, what difference will PPK make to the state of the game — whether good or bad?
At this point, it’s like worrying about a pimple when your cancer has metastasized.
Both banners are garbage and show a lack of thought and lack of testing of which isn’t atypical for the game, especially when it comes to WvW.
Yea, stuff is “imbalanced” in WvW, but that’s not that big of a deal. I see them as “tools” that anyone can use. Anyone can roll one of dem heralds or chronomancers or whatever the trend is with a good stack of tomes. Anyone can buy some superior siege. Anyone can do the silly laser event. Except this isn’t a thing everyone can use, it’s confined to rich guilds, making it a borderline p2w. People complained about ascended gear giving an advantage, but it was still possible to acquire on an individual basis and wouldn’t change the tide of battle like this. At least the chilling thing has a point in defending structures.
It’s also a lack of creativity. One is stack every defense ability. One is do lots of damage. Wow, that’s such engaging gameplay!
And again, it’s not much of a balance issue as it is a intent issue, of which I can’t read any beyond “let’s put a really expensive gold sink in and not test it out in a realistic environment as well as again alienate people that aren’t in a big guild”.
It’s an extremely disturbing trend in HoT that I see a slow promotion of power creep (inaccessible stats, i heard u liek pirate ship so we put some pirate ship on top of your pirate ship), lack of freedom of choice (Do this content to get this reward, and we won’t let you pick alternative ways), and exclusion (Non-HoT players lose guild buffs) that fortunately isn’t taken to that much of an extreme in most cases that I think really ruins the appeal of this game. This isn’t a step in a good direction.
I think the most optimistic way to evaluate the situation is that HoT was indeed so rushed that the current version of WvW is literally a skeleton model that was never meant to actually be played and we are still beta testing. Hey, I’m trying to be positive!

Solo roaming? Ha! Good luck with that. Seems like roaming is dead, it’s just gank squads orbiting around PvD zergs. The scene is so starved, it’s Hardly worth the HoT re-gearing or transferring or sometimes even logging in.
I loved roaming on the Alpine maps. On EBG it’s like you’re always within range of a cannon and a blob.
If you’re thinking of transferring, don’t waste your gems. WvW isn’t going to survive as a playable game mode for much longer (in any tier). And if anyone thinks the same people who brought you the failing progression of Bloodlust Ruins —> EotM —> Desert(ed) BL are going to “fix” WvW… LOL.
Oh the irony, considering Alpha can only hurt doors, compared to Omega that can hurt walls as well.
Honestly, I cant think of any other 3 year old game that suddenly went back to being an alpha version. Will we see GW2 re-release soon? Another beta?!

The worst problem with WvW today isnt even that the new border is kittenty design, its that it put players on two sides of the fence and make them annoy each other to no end.
People on EB think they are playing the “real” WvW with 100 man queues on reset, fights over PPT and they get all the gir… I mean commanders. To them, anyone on a border is an idiot that play for PPT or PvD, so they dont go there.
People on borders are trying to play WvW, but since there are few enemies and more often than not even fewer friendlies, they are forced to cap things to have somewhat fun. What fights that happen between 20 vs 20 is great, but loose or win, you lost anyway. If you loose, half your force go somewhere else to AFK queue EB making it impossible to have another fight. If you win, you wont see the enemy again. To border peeps, EB peeps are kittenes that dont help the server trying to play WvW across all maps.
Remember the good old days when borders could ask for help on EB and players actually played like a friendly community, a server?
No more.
Its not like I dont understand why this is happening (psychology 101), its just sad to see. Everyone get tired of playing like this.
Its garbage right now, a complete and total mess.
-The New map is a giant jumping puzzle/maze with countless deadends. The verticality and levels kitten off many people including me because it makes navigation difficult, especially when trying to run to fights. This has also caused many to simply play on EB abandoning the bl’s and therefore ignoring ppt, and those decreasing numbers that choose to keep playing wvw are basically just coming for fights.
-To many bugs, glitches, exploits that anet simply does not care about fixing. The frustration is through the roof with many of us, and anet simply continues ignoring the problems while promising us grand changes.
-They added so much gimmicky garbage and pve to wvw its truly unbelievable. Kill dinosaurs to power a lazer that hits every keep gate on the new map…good call anet. Oh don’t forget everyone starts lagging like crazy while this event is going on. Its so bad that players will simply leave the map or stop fighting and wait till the event is over. Banners are easily abused, overpowered, and unbalanced etc etc. All the gimmicks they added favor defense, which creates an imbalance between offense and defense. Offense is essential in wvw to keep ppt going. Making offense more and more harder and frustrating, and guess what people will just say screw it, I’m just gonna play for fights.
- Too much guild stuff has been gated behind grind and gold walls. Features that a guild had previously unlocked before HoT, now have to be unlocked again. And the unlocks have a ridiculous pricetag. Level 37 guild hall just to get a +5 for example. Small guilds are essentially screwed over, and wont have access to buffs they already had unlocked before HoT. Its just a giant gold sink, that requires grinding tons of pve.
-Balance has been nonexistant for so long, anet has basically just thrown that word around so much its lost all meaning because there has been no real action to back it up.
-Anet has essentially been promoting a very unpopular gamestyle called “pirate-shipping” which started months ago with the stability nerfs. This is essentially where enemy groups just range each other. Combine that with condition damage buffs, out of control damage from skills, spammable CC’s, it creates a very boring and not very fun game. On top of that you have no attention given to siege damage, so people will constantly bunker up and hump siege like ac’s all day long.
Those things are just part of the problem, believe it or not there’s more. Thats how bad anet screwed up, and that’s how amazingly ignorant they are. But its ok, they have metrics.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but if a guild places a tactivator like banners in an objective, you and your server needs to take that into account and adjust your strategy for engagements. They are meant to resolve blob fights and fights in general faster due to them having increased target cap. The banners introduced are one of the very few anti-stacking mechanics that Anet has thrown to us and will serve a higher purpose later in the year when more guilds have access to it. The more they are used (especially in tiers with overstacked populations), the more we’ll see a shift away from the current meta of stacking on one commander tag. Otherwise, it will be simply just be a tug of war between servers who have the most banners. Again, this is an element that requires servers to adapt to. Also, support your ppt guilds as they are the ones who focus on eliminating those nasty tactivated objectives!
Yes ok but have you actually seen the range? Last night they had our bay claimed. And the guys were having a BREAKBAR on top of their cc-condi-stability skills on the very east of oasis. There is just no way to justify this to me. Unless people like to use imbalanced cheesy stuff. Oh wait a min..
