Being in a large guild on a t1 server would probably help with the feeling that there is no one else on the entire map. It would also help with your guild not being able to get(pay for) even the most basic guild upgrades to interact with those systems in the first place.

So Join the 300 guild t1 server or gtfo?
Yea you leave your server and find the biggest guild you can find and die 50 times to fall damage til you learn the new map so you can have the same stuff you had before only with more PvE events, broken op rev’s, automated turret defense and funmode banners. or you leave

The event needs to be removed altogether. It’s a PvE event in the middle of WvW.

It can be solo’d. So 1 person can log in, do the event, then log out. Three hours later they can repeat the process in the same bl. People rarely check the bl doors, especially on the northern towers since they are so out of the way. The lower the servers population, the less likely anyone checks the bl’s or have coverage.

So, after a few Oasis events, the doors on even fortified structures are wide open and the whole bl can be taken by 2 people with minimal effort. No siege needed, no fights against other players. Just complete PvE in a WvW area.

Solo defenders who might have responded to crossed swords on the structure have no time to respond since the doors are open. Plus it takes FOREVER to get from one part of the map to the other.

Thing is, it only works or really means anything when the BL is already hotly-disputed turf. Fortified structures take next to no damage from skysplitter, and rarely turf is flipped in the BL’s aside from when a small group takes the structures.

I’ve had it occur multiple instances where I’ll take half an enemy BL solo after several hours of work for the skysplitter event to begin. I move to try and take it, and usually make some progress. A few minutes in when I’m about halfway done, three havoc groups come in and do the event and prevent me from progressing. When I don’t bother doing it, progress by the enemy is a lot slower, because nobody cares so long as they’re not actively losing it. When they finish the event, all of my progress is undone, and I just move back to EBG.

Guild chat winter 2016 update preview livestream notes (Go to this site to read Dulfy’s livestream notes if you haven’t seen them elsewhere already).

Wait, 2000 units for squad markers? This severely limits their usefulness. We should be able to put them anywhere in the map

Placing them requires line of sight to the spot as it has to intersect with the terrain, which would be very difficult if done from the map.
The location markers are visible on the map from anywhere within the map.


Thanks for the explanation. Is there any intention to rework the map markers as well? At first I thought this new iteration would be an update to this system, but their functionality seem completely apart from each other.

Yes, they are completely separate systems.
I don’t know if we intend to update the original markers or not.

Many of you already know this but I haven’t seen it being mentioned yet.
The snow effect from Winter’s Presence is upside down around the Gorseval battle platform (it only happens there). It literally snows up.
I don’t know if this is working as intended, it might be related to that giant soul vortex above the platform or simply a bug.

It’s not a bug, peeps seem to like it here too and suggest trying out the fractal backpack and the bees, basically anything with particle effects.

Chit chatting with the folks on reddit about invites and wearing the ANet tag.

To GMs on reddit, if we have you added are you ok with being invited to stuff?

Speaking for myself, I certainly wouldn’t be offended, but I also probably wouldn’t respond. There are a few reasons for this:

  • I tend to play on my breaks at work, which means I go AFK often to talk to coworkers.
  • When I’m tagged up, I’m getting whispers constantly, so I can’t always keep up with them.
  • Even when not tagged, I frequently get contacted by people I don’t know for a variety of reasons.
  • If I’m playing at home, I usually have a specific goal in mind when I log on (lately it’s trying to finish the Triple Trouble achievements). So, if the thing you invite me to isn’t the thing I’m working on, I’ll probably politely decline.

I don’t say all this to discourage you from trying to play with GMs/Devs – far from it! I just want you to know that if you get ignored it probably has nothing to do with you and everything to do with us.

The ANet tag is actually a guild tag, so all we have to do to remove it is to rep another guild.

Whether I use my tag depends on both my distraction level and on what I’m doing in game. If I’m doing something with my non-ANet guild, I’ll rep them. If I’m just killing time in LA, I’ll sometimes rep ANet because I know players like seeing us out and about (and I don’t have to worry about accidentally standing in fire if I pause to return someone’s whisper). If I want to attract attention, I’ll rep ANet (for example, during Wintersday I’d pop on my commander & ANet tags and stand by a snowball pile to help people get their daily achievement).

Generally if I’m going on voicechat I don’t rep ANet there.

I am not a GM, but I’m not sure that people know that all staff members at ArenaNet can represent the Anet guild, therefore more people with the Anet flag are not GMs than are.
As far as invitations, I have no problem with getting them. If I’m in the middle of dying to a boss, or fall off a jumping puzzle, responses may be delayed.

The game as a whole has become more hostile to casual play. This naturally happens to games with age. At release, nobody really knows what they’re doing so there’s a lot of glass house phenomenon going on. But as people learn how to play the game, the gap between pros, average players, and noobs becomes far greater. People also begin to deride noobs for lacking “common sense” because they probably couldn’t even remember a time when such things really weren’t. All and all, it’s harder to get started as a newbie in a game mode that’s already been established. Just play any online game that’s more than a decade old.

However, while this may be natural, this game has done a number of things to make problems worse. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Power Creep. Some guy walks into WvW, and dies in 2 seconds to a passing roamer. Sure, this always happened to some degree, but even your average noob could find some degree of solace in a blob and pretend they were good… oh wait 12k CoR. Oh wait that guardian’s out of stab. Oh wait, that black hole is pulling me in. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT AIR BLIMP DOING THERE? alt-f4
  • RTFM, when the manual itself is questionable. Guild Wars 2 has an annoying tendency to not tell the player how to play it. Tooltips are vague (well, they used to be worse), and figuring which skills interact with others sometimes fills like you have to fill out the form. And of course, new users are directing to reading the wiki which would be fine, but there’s still quite a few things which nobody truly knows because consistency and Gw2 do not fit into the same sentence. alt-f4 Why isn’t regen filling up my astral force like crazy? But “heal” “what?” (Wait, why am I even on a ranger to begin with?) alt-f4
  • Related to the above, the new borderlands maps in their sheer complexity with even more complex mechanics would have seen to be directed to more advanced WvW players. Well, actually I don’t know who they were directed at. Added to the massive damage that NPCs and other hazards that do more damage than other players, you’re bascially forcing people to learn pve and pvp at the same time! alt-f4
  • Barricades, aka we hate solo players. Hey, I finally found my way to the South. Wait, why is this barricade taking forever to take down? In general, a lot of HoT content everywhere is notoriously hostile to solo players. How are they going to even learn the maps like this? alt-f4
  • “What QoL” QoL policy? “Hey why do I have to manually pick up loot? I already finished Pact Commander”. So now your guy from PvE realizes his/her autoloot doesn’t work because reasons. Or you have to mash 1 to use a ram. Why is the lag so terrible? Why do enemies appear out of nowhere? Why did I target a wall? How come I can’t join the commander’s squad and have to type the name (good luck when it has special characters) alt-f4
  • Crappy rewards. So you spend 20 minutes trying to help a few sorry folks attempt to defend a keep against 76 people, and all you got was a few wxp from repairing the wall. You might have delayed the capture by one tick. You even downed a poor sod but he got instantly ress’d. What do you get for this? Nothing. If the game could talk it would be like “You just wasted your time; pay gems to transfer higher or go back to pve” alt-f4

“Hey come to World vs World! There might be some people playing, but they usually just stick to a giant blob. You’ll have to grind your specializations out in PvE. And when you do, you’ll realize a few people burned themselves out just to provide everything you see which will be gone in 30 minutes. And if you’re really lucky, you might 4 greens. That’ll sure help you get your legendary. Oh, but at least the gameplay experience is smooth, well at least into the oasis event happens and lags unrelated maps. Ah, but you can always rest easy, as you’ll spend 2 hours in queue for EB because there’s nobody anywhere else. You can forget about going to the bathroom or changing characters, because reasons. You might get disconnected, which is even more exciting than RNG. And then you can get bursted down by a dragon burner. How dare you not farm pve you noob?” alt-f4

That, my friends, is what, recruitment messages translate to these days.

So due to all this, we’re getting an accelerated death. Veterans are sticking to each other, not bothering to help new folks or train them because they know it’s not going to mean much anyways. They’re just trying to get whatever the game mode has left and get whatever they can from it, until it all goes dark.

WvW is done. When T1 guilds are trying to scrounge up money so we can transfer guilds up just so we can have someone to fight you know it is the end. I don’t know how Anet could mess something up so badly. When your best and most enjoyable borderland map is Obsidian Sanctum… that is really saying something about how hard you failed in this endeavor. The new BLs are unplayable even without the ultra lag mid event going. And all you guys would have to do to start fixing this is remove these kitten maps, that were clearly designed around glider use yet we can’t glide, and put the old ones back in until the update. Even then it is pretty much too late. T1 prime time, can’t find fights. Dead, D-E-D dead.

What makes this all the more sad was that for 3 years WvW was this games most popular end game and Anet just let it rot. This was your kitten end game! How could a company mismanage something so badly? It is to the point that you have guilds leaving to play the extremely crappy Blade and Soul and Black Desert Online. Those games are not even enjoyable to play but people would rather grind Korean style than play the crap sandwich we have been given.

The worst part is that we all know Anet is ignoring this subforum and that everything we say falls on deaf ears.

When I’m playing especially on scrapper, I just melt down ANY thief, the class can’t really face it.

I heard there was a pretty good counter to confusion damage. It’s called “don’t spam skills mindlessly when you have high stacks of confusion on you”. I know, I know, that’s a high-level complicated strat, but I’m sure you can manage.

I seriously doubt that they are going to change anything that they’ve been working on for the last year – certainly not anything that is going to require a substantial number of man-hours (i.e. something that will cost them money). They’ll finish what’s been on the boards for the last year.

Let’s face it. If they saw WvW as an important revenue stream, then we would have seen a “major overhaul” a long time ago. They’d have people working on it 24/7. Any notion on Anet’s part that they haven’t had enough “time” is laughable.

Instead, they’re probably waiting for the three summer interns to come back in June and finish what they worked on last summer…..

Well, my old shatter build will work again (no more tank amulets). Assuming spvp. Assuming wvw, old kitten build will be god still. No change. Just land your explosion, stealth a few seconds, repeat… If you go chrono, its even easier. Just takes Domination Signet, Decoy, The Cripple Well, and the Spirit Bomb Well. Idgaf about heals, still gonna nuke. I barely touch Mesmer too, maybe thats why it works? I remember 6/23 very well, one shotting every player in wvw. MB→Blink→Pistol 5→Flurry→MI→Shatter. Phantasm staff will still work fine. Condi with the new aegis well might be incredibly potent, will test. Don’t be down. Just stop thinking inside the box and do what I do. Write down all the skills functionality (mentality or actually writing), theorize. People being attached usually overthink. Especially before full reveal.

That’s my help, I’ma skedaddle before people try to roast me for something or other.

I believe I have finally resigned myself to accepting that whatever the “Overhaul” is, when it arrives it will not be something that saves the game mode for me personally. The long lag time in development, the Anet collect some info, hide in an closet for 2 years, then release content has been repeatedly essentially destroying the game mode I like and want to play in WvW. I think this post sort of inadvertently encapsulates why I feel that way.

We’ve avoided adding this feature because we don’t believe it would be healthy for WvW. While we can appreciate why some players would want a feature like this, lots of other players only engage in WvW when, upon entering a WvW map, immediately see a commander icon to follow. We try and avoid adding features that can be used to intentionally exclude other players.

On the surface, it’s very reasonable. But I think for anyone in a WvW oriented guild, who has spent time playing WvW over the last few years, the fundamental lack of understanding of how WvW is played is pretty clear. I don’t fault Tyler for this perspective, we already know from the “Adopt a dev” program that none of the “dev team” sees WvW as their primary game mode (Mike O’Brien’s comments not withstanding). The idea that a “guild or squad only” visible commander tags would actually be “unhealthy” for the game mode, when a huge percentage of guilds have essentially doing just that by going tagless seems to painfully highlight just how little Anet understands about the health of WvW or how a thriving competitive server (are there any these days?) operates.
GW2 is PvE first and foremost. Every “upgrade” we have gotten has been created from a PvE perspective. If you thought over the last year that the few threads started by John Corpening represented a shift in the way the devs see WvW, I would suggest that Tyler’s comment shows otherwise. The PvE perspective is stronlgy in place. Buckle your seatbelts I believe more turbulence is on the horizon….

Well yeah, most of the balance changes are done based on sPvP. CoR is about the only change they’re doing for WvW. So expect to see more power creep in the game, all for the sake of PvP game mode.

And hooray unblockable venomshare, hooray more zerker rifle pew pew. Both of which are cancer in WvW, but do the balance devs care? Nope, those classes needed a buff for PvP so they’re buffing them not caring about WvW at all.

I really wish they would separate 3 game modes and balance them accordingly. There’s just no way to balance PvE, large scale WvW, and 5-player PvP using the same dataset.

There’s nothing really more to say – we’ve put it in posts for the last 2 years. 60% of all changes are complete garbage and accompanied with more and more issues.

Less is more people…. less is more.

Now the maps are completely barren. Couple this with no updates (ie – BETA) until the 3rd quarter of the year?

1) The “fixed” or "Balanced’ stability to a pre-hot level, only to add 10x more CC (soft and hard) in HoT.
2) You only need 3 classes to face-roll everyone in a group setting.
3) Roaming is dominated by 2 classes.
4) Blob’s are worse then ever.
5) Match System has been stagnant for 2 years.
6) The new maps are completely empty 85%, w/ the 2 hours of prime time being the exception.

The list goes on and on and on.

The whole 2 people on the WvW Team either need more help or just fire them and forego WvW entirely.

Hm, not that I can think of. There’s at least one for every other race, but I’m not recalling any charr. It’s probably because sexuality (straight, gay, or otherwise) doesn’t really come up much in game, so there’s really no reason to assume charr culture is anti-gay.

Of course, we’d have an example if Logan and Rytlock would just profess their love for each other :P

But that would be beastiality then, not homosexuality. or maybe homosexual beastiality?? Eeeek

Brings up an interesting point.

What is your moral objection to beastiality?
- The animal can’t give consent? (this one wouldn’t hold for Charr)
- The animal could get distressed? (this one also would weaken with Charr, Charr could still be kitten d but you’d have a clearer idea if/when you’d be distressing it)
- Its a different species? (this one still holds but the weakest, it doesn’t give much more of a reason than ‘just cause’ or ‘gross’ which isn’t really a valid moral reason imo)

Could have practical reasons.
- Possible disease transfer? (valid and holds for Charr)

Charr “culture” seems to put less focus on the breeding pair of children (kids being brought up in little packs away from parents) so that is something to consider for their relationships.

Charr “culture” though is heavily militaristic so it may be your duty to swell the warhost by breeding.

I would suggest Charr wouldn’t care who you enjoyed having sex with and having a relationship with but I would tend to expect they wanted you to at least breed to provide fresh troops (you could be gay but I think there may be some pressure to have sex with the opposite sex at least once to create the next generation of warriors).

Of course Charr should all be exterminated because they are a species who are interested only in war and so will turn on the civil races of Tyria when the dragons are done, best kill them now before they turn on us.
