I think it was fairly patronizing to selectively pick one (or a couple) of the bad threads like only those come out of WvW— it’s not like there aren’t many entitled threads for PvE and PvP yet it seems to be an attempt to dismiss the WvW community for being incapable of open discussion when obviously the channel hasn’t been proper, especially when one is posting from reddit, and choosing that to comment on.
Granted, I just don’t think that was good to comment on it at all regardless of right or wrong.

It’s just one of the many signs that he doesn’t acknowledge (or worse yet, he doesn’t even realize) that he and Anet are the problems; that they are the ones who put WvW in its current position — not the WvW community.
Seriously. What rational person is going to “work with them” after seeing them time and again promise to “listen” and then end up doing the exact opposite of what’s needed to be done.
Lol.

This answer and the one before: "Thanks for the down-votes and for the thread on the official forums, “Wrong answer again RIP WvW”. You know I’m actually here to help."
are ridiculous and concerning. As a long time developer in the game industry he should know this is part and parcel of development and he should have the empathy to realise exactly why WvW players are so frustrated

The anet dev we had with us on JQBL tonight — Hamm, I think? — said they would be disabling the oasis in an upcoming patch. If true, I believe that’s a step in the right direction. Disable it, until they can suss out whatever issues are making it lag so horribly. He then claimed fire keep for anet, and told us that if we didn’t defend it, we’d all be banned lol.

Taking turns to give WvW a kick in the teeth.
This DrStephen guy seems legit, but I’ve never seen him post before. He could have said all that about ‘we tried to go too big so now we’re going smaller’ a month ago, if not more. He could have said ‘X,Y, and Z are problems and we want to fix them, even if we have nothing planned atm’ and it would have eased the pain. He could have explained why the maps aren’t on rotation on HoT release.
The silence hurt, and it’s still eroding the playerbase. It doesn’t matter how good their intentions are if nobody knows about them. Also, due to lack of communication over what turns out to be reasonable errors, they have a serious trust problem now.
So, after years of ignoring the thousands of posts on these forums giving constructive feedback, the devs finally post elsewhere that they are just beginning to take it seriously. This is supposed to be cause for joy and fanboy cheering? After they ignored all of the pleading for changes to the Deserted Boredom Lands during beta? I’ll believe it when I see the wonderful changes. My bet is on more mini-games, jumping puzzles and PvE gimmicry, because that’s all I’ve actually seen A-Net produce lately. Sorry not to jump on the wishful thinking bandwagon…

I will be thankful when I see changes not when I read promises of changes, I am tired of people selling smoke.
Best move for a new director would be to get on the OFFICIAL FORUM and start communicating with players.
If you do not have the technology to rotate back and forth between maps and admit to the necessity to fix/ improve the desert bl, then put the frikken alpine map back until you fix it. This might at least give you a population to balance. If not, it will make balancing kinda easy i guess, 5 people here, 5 there, and the top server can have 6.
“The WvW team’s current top priority is fixing population imbalance. It’s a really hard technical problem. It has taken us a long time to ship a solution, so it’s been a long time since we’ve shipped significant updates, and of course that hurts.” ~ Mike-OBrien-ArenaNet[

At a high level we plan to address core WvW issues such as population imbalance, scoring issues, and rewards. Of those, the first updates you’ll see will be related to population balance and rewards. ~Anet-TylerB
So there we have it. Game over. They. Just. Do. Not. Get. It. Here, lets shovel some rotten food with sugar all over it and wonder why no one is eating it.
They sat on their hands watching everyone leave.. they jump up again to do the wrong thing at the wrong time and can’t put the nails in the coffin fast enough. Then they are going to pat themselves on the back afterwards " we did everything we could" Nonsense when the one thing they had to do to fix it they refused to do. The end.
WHY is this such a bad answer? Sadly, they are not listening..

Population imbalance will resolve itself when they fix the other issues with the game ( including too many servers). Hello Anet, everyone is sitting in queue for EBG because of the DBL boycott, not population imbalance. There are many options to resolve it that are better than their idea of a godawful alliance system. WvW players do not play WvW for rewards, they play it for challenging, strategic Fun PvP ( which they are not receiving currently).
Most WvW players spend $$ to play WvW, they should just be an incentive to do more instead. Pouring sugar on a rotten plate of food is not going to fix it. What they are choosing to do here is kill it faster.
Considering Obrien is now calling the shots for the game and is the one who thinks WvW players <3 PvE, I don’t think I can stand to stick around any longer to watch this painfully dwindle away a slow excruciating death, it has been nauseating enough to watch as it is.
WvW / PVP ONLY
(edited by lil devils x.6071)
It’s definitely over-played in WvW. Certainly not overpowered in sPvP, but easily competing with the top spot for WvW roaming. Both power and condi variants are extremely strong builds here because the power/ferocity stats aren’t awful in WvW, allowing for mesmers to actually get off the damage they need, and the lack of dependence on traits for damage lets them be a lot beefier and more flexible than other classes in the end.
Dire perplex condi mes is absolutely OP, and probably makes the most out of dire and perplex, but dire perplex anything is overpowered. I wish ANet would honestly just remove this combination from the game like they did with the Magic Find stat and refund players with selectable stat armor with the ability to pick any other stat combination in the game and any associated runes. Would definitely help WvW balance a lot and really wouldn’t affect PvE or sPvP at all.
Most common classes I find these days in WvW tend to be DH, chrono, and Herald, then reaper, followed and scrapper. The rest kind of follow as normal. Interesting how the two most common aren’t used at all in competitive sPvP but define a lot of groups in WvW.
Can’t really say the class is OP when it’s balanced for sPvP, in which case it’s weak. The condi variant is definitely overtuned for WvW regarding ease-of-use and how effective it is.
Would like to see some more reward for active play on the mesmer, though. It has a lot of passive effects that involve waiting around in stealth a lot, and I’m not fond of being on the giving or receiving end of such things (also why I dislike the Shadow Arts thief trait line).
As far as the whole “veil bot” thing goes, it isn’t true. A lot of zergs are running increasing numbers of chronomancers for backline support and damage, as the number of reflects and aegis-spamming going on is heavily hurting a lot of traditional ranged builds, and being able to strip aegis quickly, provide cooldown reduction to a blob, and simply go invuln/stealth/AOE stealth the backline if attacked by periph to not die are huge gains for a backline to have and make frontline work a lot easier.
Mesmer condi roaming is popular because it allows for easy disengages.
The reason people claim its “OP” is because most of the time they decided they want to 1v1 a class designed around dueling and the majority of WvW’ers for whatever reason do not bring any condi clear. Heck a month ago I ran into a Warrior with no cleanses and a guard that only brought one. Is that a mesmer problem? No, its a l2p issue. Spamming your AA because you have auto target and auto target on is again a l2p issue.
Whenever I roam thats all I ever see. I’ve 1vX’ed on power and condi in WvW, power can be less forgiving sure, but condi kills the stupid people 90% of the time.
And I don’t like Perplexity runes either, don’t need them. They work better on a condi engi that can ’rupt you for days. Matter of fact I run Scavenging because the % condi boost is better imo.
And can you tell me which passive traits you are referring to? I’d like to know seeing there isnt clone death traits anymore and if a condi mesmer wants to kill anyone that have to be actively summoning illusions, shattering, proc’ing scepter 2 and landing scepter 3.
The only really passive traits is PU(give me a break its been nerfed to kitten) and the torch trait which encourages stealth camping. Except for the fact mesmer cant camp in stealth.
When you say something is OP it should mean it has literally no counters. And condi mesmer has plenty. Running away, condi cleanse, condi transfer, condi damage, heavy CC.
I have lately been seeing people playing Asura more often. Clearly this is because they’re OP.
Edit:
The point of this post is that correlation doesn’t necessarily mean causation. I can make the claim that the increase sales of ice cream results in more drownings. There’s correlation but not the cause. The same can be said about classes player choose. Just because you see more people play a specific class (how do you even quantitatively measure this?) doesn’t mean that they must be OP. I could also make an argument of false premise/conclusion as well as no evidence was provided to support your claim.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
You don’t need condition removal as a mandatory function to make Mesmer work.
Know your enemy first and foremost and learn to disengage when you need to.
This is false. I do not know on what MMR you play at but in High MMR matches, you might as well just afk if you do not have any cleanses.
Knowing your enemy is like 5% of the equation. You will never ever beat any condition class without a cleanse. It’s impossible. (Assuming equal skill)
Every class needs condition removal of atleast 1 source.
What you said makes you sound like a bad player who needs a crutch.
Again, I do not know what MMR you play in, so I am assuming you are facing average players.
And you’re clearly a bad player. Case in point, this thread.
Okay, 1v1 my ranger with no condi cleanse. Let’s bet gold on it. NO condi cleanse means no sigils either.
And please no PU.
I can understand the condition cleanse stipulation. But still the hate on pu???
If it’s a 1v1 why would you need PU? I don’t care much for PU because I love Bountiful Disillusionment too much now over it but if you have to rely on PU to win then you’re as bad a player as phokus claims Stickers is.
This is basically the definition of scrub logic. While stickers is right that you’re not going to see PU in most competitive matches, claiming that a win to PU is a false win is nothing other than creating false win conditions that have nothing to do with the actual game.
The only problem I have with PPK is that afaik, it doesnt take into account outnumbered. With the buff, you shouldnt give any PPK. Would be even better if outnumbered was better localized to the area of the map you are in.
A wvw tournament is like bad porn. No one really wants to watch it and you end up just playing with yourself.
Nostalgia is hitting me hard recently.
I haven’t played Guild Wars 2 since a few weeks before the raid patch, since I lost interest in the game more and more when I felt like ArenaNet’s attention is in the wrong areas.
I’ve been looking through old screenshots, from beta weekends to headstart of the game, and then old WvW screenshots, and it’s a bit sad what it all turned into. The game surely felt like a breeze back then, something so innocent and fun to play.

dont know i’d say mesmers need something done about their portals and the endless spam of defensive cds
Personally, I have to question why we even have thieves in this game.
Isn’t being killed by a class that has perma-stealth far too cheap? I mean, what is the counter?
Hope that you know the thief is close enough, and then play one of the classes that can actually reveal the thief? We wouldn’t even need reveals if thief didn’t exist. It’s a half-baked counter to a class with no other counter.
See, I can be salty too.
stealth is a fine mechanic, just kittened 5-2 spamming d/p thieves make it look bad and give the bad reputation to the entire thief class
as opposed to mesmers where every single build is annoying and gives the class its bad reputation
5-2 spamming, shadow refuge, D/D, smoke + shortbow 2, do I really need to continue?
Every single thief build is annoying.
Pistol/Dagger used to actually be my favorite set, because it was one of the most hilarious never-dying troll setups in this entire game.when im speaking of annoying i dont mean simply “lel cant kill me” builds, i mean builds that also make a strong impact on the game as well
So that means literally 0 mesmer builds.
Look mate, you’re playing a thief.
Your entire job is roaming around decapping, +1’ing, and preventing the enemy roamer from doing anything.
The mesmer’s entire job is roaming around, decapping, +1ing, and placing meaningful portals for its team.
Do you see the conflict of interest here?
Do you?
Just go kill the mesmer, it’ll never do ANYTHING beneficial for its team, ever again.
Even if a mesmer burns moa on you, and manages to either kill you/get away, GUESS WHAT! You just wasted a LONG VALUABLE COOLDOWN of the mesmers.
You just did your job, by preventing the mesmer from doing his job.
It’s not a hard concept mate.
about your feedback, that we don’t even read it.” ~ Crystal Suzuki
It’s meh. Open-world pve anything is fine. Fractals anything is fine. Dungeons anything is fine assuming you find people to run with (my first arah run was while using AH frontliner and my wvw gear because poverty and noob). Raids you probably won’t get a spot in PuGs unless you’re tanking VG or hammerhuntering Sabetha.
If you’re gonna complain about druid, the ultra-bunker healy spec that I and some other guard mains were sorta hoping for, I’d suggest keeping it in the ranger forums. Revenant elite isn’t primarily offensive, it’s just support, which turns into offense because revenant is a…well-tuned…class, and offensive support is part of support. Engineer elite spec is meant to be tanky, but like a lot of elite specs it’s also too good at other things (read: damage). Mesmer elite spec was based almost entirely around alacrity, a unique support, and too late Anet realized that was a poor decision and so slapped a band-aid on a meta they didn’t like by hammering mesmers with the nerf bat. Elementalist elite spec seems to be frontline support/survivability, but I don’t know much about that class.
But yeah, it’s cool that you’re disappointed; you’ll fit right in.
Don’t cry, Signet of Mercy. Others may forget you, but I will always remember.
Our deficiencies may be overcome by practice and self-discipline.
I’m really confused here so something that was considered weak is suddenly good or above average because a great player is using it and its not listed as “meta”? I’m not sure but to me it seems like a lot of the forum base on this game struggles greatly with just saying someone is a really good player, and just say a build is useless or op when it has disadvantages and advantages.
Let me try and explain the thought process behind running that mesmer.
The team noted the utility of portal. It’s potentially an extremely strong, even gamechanging, utility, so they wanted it on their team. Unfortunately, they need a mesmer to use it. They tossed out power mesmer as unviable, tank mesmer as unviable, interrupt mesmer as unviable, and settled upon condie mesmer as the best bet for a build that could accomplish something and still have portal on the bar.
Clearly, that bet didn’t pay off. The condie mesmer was useless and portal barely got used. The only reason a mesmer was picked was for portal, and the only reason condie mesmer was picked was because it was the best shot at being useful.
People whine on most condition builds, no matter what class it comes from. Many considers it just “condi spam” when it really isn’t any different from “power spam”, you just die later from conditions instead of immediately from power damage.
This is the greatest bit. People have this odd complex where they think they should be able to facetank a bunch of condie skills and not die from it even though facetanking a bunch of power skills would result in the same outcome but faster.
Whilst I agree with you, I still don’t believe that a now repeating stream of complaints will speed things up.
It’s the internet, you can’t really stop a steady stream of complaints unless you address them. Yes there will still be complaints but right now instead of plunging the clogged up toilet, they’re just continuing to let people take a dump in it.
The problem is Anet decided that since the forums were venomous years ago, they’d stop all communication on it, not considering the fact that many that were venomous then have left and because they are continuing to ignore the forums, they’re breeding a new wave of venomous forum users.
On an earlier point you made. We have been waiting for this overhaul for years. Yes, it was only announced before HoTs release but we’ve been asking, pleading, begging for an overhaul such as this for years – it’s desperately needed and now that it’s in the wind they keep delaying it and leading us on.
“Hey that whole population imbalance thing? Fixin’ it reeeal soon” – ‘Soon’ is a pinprick of uncertainty that’s being made more redundant by the constant delays and lack of clear communication.
There’s a lot more damage in PvE though, so they have higher HP pools.
Illusions have an additional 95% damage reduction in PvE, giving them an effective hp value of 20x what is listed. The listed values are not even remotely enough in PvE. Before the 95% damage reduction was implemented, all illusions would die every time even a trash mob so much as sneezed in their direction.
3 x illusions/phantasms.
= approximately 7500-11000 HP on your damage.Mesmer rarely only has the one clone present. These clones can track opponents in a simplistic way. They can deal damage while the player performs other functions. They mitigate damage while the player performs other functions. The clones are never centered directly on the player and are spread. You think that is not enough and they need more health. Interesting.
These are assumptions you make under the best possible scenario. In every other scenario, however, clones and phantasms are cleaved and eliminated almost immediately by AoE if they aren’t shattered immediately by the Mesmer. The Chronomancer may have solutions for this, such as creating clones and giving phants an extra shatter before death, but the core Mesmer has no such safety and is often restricted to shatter-focused builds. It also pigeons us into using Deceptive Evasion if we don’t use Chronomancer.
So, yes, it isn’t enough that illusions, supposedly our DPS and shields, are unable to perform their functions because AoE and cleave remove them without trying. It is also not enough that this flaw causes us to be forced into a single trait line to be potentially viable, and has been around since the beginning of the game.
I, too, find it interesting.
[Sorry, I got heated as I wrote this.]
Are we talking about Mesmers or Chronos?
Bunker Chrono may have been OP. Mesmer most certainly wasn’t.
You’re trying to reason with players that have said the following:
“Thief cannot permanent stealth”
“Mesmer has more stealth than thief” (pre chrono and post PU spec nerf)
I wouldn’t bother if I were you, do as the rest of the mesmers are doing, finding another game because classes will never have parity.
Mesmers can put out so many clones in such rapid succession. Currently there is a small reward to opponents who risk taking focus off the mesmer to kill it’s clones. Increasing clone durability would remove that reward and something else would have to be toned down instead, such as… stealth access or duration?
You clearly have no idea how any of this functions right now.
+1
They rarely split PvE from PvP, and here is a good place not to do it. Also, PvE illusions now have 90% damage reduction, so the gap is immense.
Not to mention, this means that “Persisting images” give an amazing 679 additional HP to your phantasm. With this, they can sustain one additional auto attack from a cleric guardian! Definitely worth it…
