….. And Elementalist.
I am a fan of Tim Buckley from Ctrl+Alt+Del (www.cad-comic.com) and found one of this comics to represent things that happen here. I think he is a smart gamer.
The automatic upgrades are fantastic. Anytime my server faces other servers of lower ranking, we can just flip their border and leave it entirely and it’ll be T3 in no time. It’ll be funny watching the one or two scouts they have trying to keep camps flipped to prevent the auto-upgrades.
Another great thing is, we don’t really need scouts either. It takes those lower rank servers with their small groups so long to get through our T3 walls on their border that even if they make it to lord we can wp in anytime we want and snuff them out. Even if we die, just instantly respawn right next to lord, lol. It’s hilarious.
Then again if they did manage to flip it and somehow upgrade it to T3, it takes our zerg less than 6 minutes from outer gate to ring up (I’ve timed it), whereas their small groups grow white beards by the time they see a glimpse of the lord room. So no big.
Please don’t change a thing; we don’t want to have to leave people behind from our karmatrain to actually scout, siege, and guard those keeps. This is working as intended.
Think i need a new sarcasm meter, my previous one broke reading this, 1+ for you Gutter Rat!
Madness Rises [Rise] – Banners Hold.
Don’t argue with idiots, they pull you down their level and own you with experience.
It’s flirting with pay2win at the very least. Is it as obnoxious and two faced as Archeage? Nah. Can you still run around on some pre-Hot builds and kill people? Yes, but it’s a lot tougher and some fights are just dead ends because of the sheer amount of sustain and damage the new specs can access. I think players without HoT are kind of kittened in all aspects of the game.
For many people, GW2 is an enjoyable, shared experience in the here and now. I think that obliging yourself to grind away at a piano or martial art when you would enjoy yourself more with another activity is problematic because it seems like a lot of people put an emphasis on these hobbies as a form of self-betterment, and judge each other based on each individual’s participation in such things. Therefore, a lot of the pressure to do those kinds of things results from a fear of being different, or a fear or people, or a fear of shame. These are unhealthy motivations.
- I was thinking that spending time with low-quality game is pretty bad way to spend one’s life. Not in a sense that it would be morally wrong, but the alternatives are better. I think these things can and should be judged. A picture with high resolution is better than same picture in low resolution. Food that has no flavour in it is worse than same food properly flavoured. Same way a game that contains grind is worse than a game made in good faith. Grind invokes compulsion and eventually existential crisis. It feels like working in a sweatshop where you’re toiling away day to day for paltry reward, receiving no appreciation from anyone. It’s not something to take lightly. Many players have lost their satisfaction in life as a result of these MMO games.
I stopped reading all the “thanks for listening” notes… because although this is a little step in the right direction ( carrot dangling at best to me ), it’s nowhere near close to responding to what people are really saying. I used to spend 95% of my time in WvW and now it’s about 5% at best. These changes won’t pull me back in, nor will they benefit small groups really since now they won’t be able to rez their own dead against a bigger group and so on. Bottom line is that this is a straw that has been thrown at a haystack of requests ( to me ). As it is and will be when these small changes are implemented, I will continue to pound the HoT areas and keep hoping that maybe even HALF things people are saying will be responded to.
Objectives upgrades will no longer be automatic based on time. They will upgrade based on dolyaks that reach them.
The number of people running around flipping camps will increase… because flipping camps gives loot, mats, wxp, supply, points, and upgrades… or denies supply, points, and upgrades to the enemy. Lotsa flipping.
The number of people willing to try and defend camps will not increase, because defending a camp is a gamble that never pays off (for you). If you kill them before they get to the camp, it isn’t called defense. If you fight them in the camp but they run away, is isn’t called defense. If you kill them in the camp, you may only get bronze credit. If you go down in the camp, the guards no longer revive you. If there are 3+ enemy players, they never have a problem spiking you down before they have to worry about the camp npcs. And all this requires being nearby and having a watchful eye on things and being ready to respond.
Supply cost for all catapults are being reduced by ten supply.
Big towers on empty maps mean you don’t have prebuilt defensive siege against every (or any) cata spot. The advantages we’ve had till now are that the wall is likely fortified and a small group of invaders had to run back for supply to finish their second cata. While they were running back for supply, you could build a sup ac, and then defense was possible because they may not be able to ever get that 2nd cata up. If they get 2 catas up immediately…. and the walls couldn’t fortify… 1v5 tower defense may be impossible.
Points per kill will be turned on and kept on.
It’s good that more people can contribute in the way that suits them, but the scoreboard REALLY needs to reflect the contribution that kills, yaks, yak-sniping, sentries, etc. are making to the overall score. (Insert GI Joe quote here).
_The number of players who can rally off a single kill has been reduced from five to one. _
My fear: The system will promote more people playing rez-builds while letting only the person who did the most damage rally off a dead foe. Someone playing a tanky/support build is already at a disadvantage in the damage-dealing department, and every second they spend reviving already means less loot and wxp… it makes perfect sense that they should be left on the ground to rot while glass builds rally.
Players will also no longer be able to revive defeated players while in combat.
Will we still be able to revive dead NPCs? Hopefull we can still get a supervisor back up.
So far, I don’t have a problem with this for players, but I will have to explain to people why I stopped rezzing them when my Plague Signet/Unholy Martyr suddenly put me in combat because someone in range 1200 got a condition.
Okay, okay, okay.
Everyone calm right down.
It’s. A. kittening. Movie.
Okay?
It’s just a movie, that has nothing to do with Guild Wars, absolutely nothing. Yet people are DEMANDING others lose access to their accounts and hell, Gaile is supporting this.
Where, exactly, in the ToS does it say that posting of spoilers in chat is disallowed? What does this apply to? Where does it stop? What about the new James Bond movie? What about the Heart of Thorns story itself, something GW2 related?
Hell what about bloody Twilight?
This is ridiculous and you should all take a long hard look in the mirror. You’re suggesting and encouraging that people lose access to their accounts because of A MOVIE.
Where does this policy start? Where does it end? What if you GENUINELY WANT TO TALK STAR WARS? Are you going to get banned for talking about something you love?
What about a new book?
How LONG after release do we have? What about Game of Thrones?
I’m sorry Gaile but you’re being unreasonable, as is everyone else and I seriously hope someone at the CS team tells you this. It’s completely ridiculous.
Honestly I feel that those that describe these changes as “amazing” are suckers. Sucked in by a minimal attempt at appeasing the wvw community as Anet has done time and time again.
Best statement about the positive comments in this thread.
Pain Train Choo [Choo]
Mind Smack – Mesmer
I have to agree with the posters that are less than enthusiastic about the proposed changes. They’re laughable when you take into account what has happened to the wvw population. EBG generally will have a que in NA prime time, on the rest of the maps….crickets.

As someone whose wvw guild melted into oblivion since HoT, there is nothing in these changes that will bring people back to the game. But, I’m guessing Anet has made a fortune from players that have transferred to higher population servers in the sad hope of finding their beloved wvw community alive…somewhere. In my opinion Anet owes all those that transferred since HoT a gem refund. They broke it and we pay for it.
TLDR: yawn
Well they succeeded with this so called “sneak peak”.
Get ppl talking about something different than the real pressing matters.
All these small bandaids do absolutly nothing about the biggest mess: the way to big and way to vertical desert borderlands and the lack of action on them.

The last day before the new maps, we (HoD) walked a golem or two to Hills on our BL. We took the keep and then jumped off the bridge to our deaths. It was like a funeral procession and I didn’t realize at the time how prophetic it was. If anyone can link the video I would really appreciate it.
Awwww, I didn’t get a vid of that one I’ll try to link up an old one or two after I get home from work… I’ll add them in an Edit:

Here are my clips from the old borderlands when I went to FA on t2. I moved to t1 after the HoT xpac.

This video quality went to kitten after bad compressing but still very entertaining.
Quick, run and buy HoT so you can compete! And give extra copies to your friends and tell them to all run revenants!
The funny thing is that a long time ago, when a single skill made it possible to stack a ton of a single boon – just some lousy swiftness btw – Anet hit it so hard with the nerf hammer that curtain became useless to achieve even modest swiftness on the Mesmer himself and we still use Guardian symbols to stack speed instead (what a ridiculous concept!).
Oh how the standards Anet set down has changed.
I really do miss the old BL
Honestly, the map was pretty bland overall and gave an advantage to map hopping k-trainers (with Golems at spawn) usually, it was good for smaller groups too, but the whole upgrade system since HoT, totally ruins that side of WvW.
If only they could just make the map bigger and use up space better, rather than add verticality.
“pretty bland”
compared to what? The current clown fiesta?
Old map was perfect, dont fool yourself
European Overlord
Actually I shouldn’t link this video, because it isn’t listed and were for the guild-use only, but the guild has been long disbanded and the player who made this video doesn’t play any more. That fight, constant in combat for around 30 minutes, was so amazing, I still love it when I see this. How I miss that guild and the people in it, so here’s a gentle aroooo from me too you guys. Now, I go into a corner and cry a little bit.
Link some pics from the old WvsW wintersday…..the snow…the falling snow weather effects…..the festive effects…the lord skins….the presents….

Hello , I made a promise to myself to never post another video on this board. BUT like you I’m missing the old borderlands also. QQ
With that said I give you my happy go lucky video of the year.
It’s for laughs , please enjoy haha

I can’t watch those vids. They don’t cheer me up, they rather depress me even more. Good old days, fun times, now gone for good

It’s a 0/10 map anyone not seeing this is either on dat ANET sack or are some outlier group of W3 players. The VAST majority hate it and frankly it’s currently destroying the game mode (along with other things like insane fast auto upgrades). W3 players are really ape folks who are pretty simple minded and you’d think it would be easy to make us happy. Like give us EZ access to RvR and we’re happy. LITERALLY nothing else matters. It seems like they tried too hard actually. I’ve said it before i wonder what it’s like to be the team head that made this map. Imagine spending ALL that time on this massive map and when you release it literally 99% of people hate it. Does he look at his bank statements and be like “Yo the checks went through I didn’t waste my life or anything on that map?”, Or is he like ,“ANET stole my skills and used them to ruin an entire gamemode” as he’s sitting on a couch with his therapist crying into a pillow like a kindcade victim in Jessica Jones.
I agree. My only addition would be that changing the map is probably more labor intensive than going back to Alpine. Alpine wasn’t a favorite of mine but it is a superior WvW map even if the Deserted map is changed.
Wow, I think I agree with this… back to the same old map. Now we have 2 huge very labor intensive WvW assets that are not going to be used in WvW… Personally, I think Anet is lost. Apparently Mike O’Brien has his fingers in EVERYTHING and no one is given enough responsibility to take concepts from idea to finished product without O’Brien and upper management constantly changing their minds, the goals, and the concept. When you start to realize this, you realize that HoT is a hot mess. The new map is just a complete mishmash of ideas completely unplaytested… Like turtlebanner, seriously? It’s not out there much yet because Grind Halls, but it’s coming and it’s absurdly OP. Or how bout that Air keep boss with the air jets and the red donut and and and… So many gimmicks, so little focus on actual gameplay… Honestly, there is no need to wait for the “Major WvW overhaul” just look at EtoM and how closely it resembles the new BL in terms of schlock and gimmickry, then look at the mess that is the HoT PvE content, Grinding, time gates, missing critical items or broken maps (ie Tedious Depths), even their precious Esports… This game has completely lost any focus it once had.
Community,
There is a remnant of Guild Wars 2 players saying that people just need to “try the new map” in order to enjoy it. These individuals feel that apparently, individuals are being brain washed by some sort of PR engine that is convincing them the new map isn’t fun.
Here’s my credentials:
- Tier 1 commander for 3 years; my guild use to run 70 deep; now we run 20 if we’re lucky. Before this expansion, we ran 40. We had 60 on for the expansion reset.
– Our guild has fluctuated from casual to serious. Casual meaning no build/class organization, to now serious, meaning required builds to be in the guild, removing players that are online during our all-calls but not in WvWvW, requiring scouting while on a borderland and having a GvG team
– I’ve done it all: Scouted for hours (both for structures and field scouting as a thief), commanded small groups, commanded map blobs and during season 2 I commanded up to SEVEN separate small ops teams at one time to counter strong double teams
– I have always been in tier 1 and have been the GM of my guild for 18 months+
– We have not stepped foot into EBG ONCE since HOT launch as a guild group. For 2-3 times a week, we have always been on the new borderlands from both attacking and defensive positions. Not once on EBG!
– I was featured on the Ready Up Anet episode before Season 3 – Yes, that’s me.
That said, the overwhelming opinion of my guild members is that the map is not enjoyable or fun. Remember, we have the capacity (and I have the capacity to command) large groups or a bunch of small groups. We’ve tried it all. It isn’t fun.
Please stop telling people to just “try the map and you’ll like it”. It’s insulting. We have tried it, we don’t enjoy it and yet every week we are not on EBG, we’re on Desert Borderlands because EBG has a queue of 50. Thanks TW, nerds <3.
Here are a few items that in my opinion that needs to be addressed:
- As has been said over and over, towers and keeps are not strategic: owning one does not help you progress to the next (see northern towers on alpine borderland); this limits the opportunity to actually enjoy the FANTASTIC game engine that GW2, no joke, it’s the best in an MMO now in my opinion.
- The huge amount of chokes promotes pirateships, which amounts to two groups looking at each other for minutes sometimes 5-10 minutes at a time with each knowing that if one pushes the other, the one that pushes loses. “But Finality, that’s why you use two groups and split” – But if you do that, the bigger group just pushes the group that didn’t move around to pincer, and it’s game over. Again, overall this does not provide an opportunity to have some sort of fight to enjoy the engine.
- The new classes and builds promote pirateshipping too! (along with the change to talents which amounted too: backline damage is now insane, and now more insane due to CoR and other forms of cheese abuse).
- Guild upgrades are gated but once unlocked are just crazy. Huge rule in MMOs: If you are going to give people upgrades they worked for, do not take them away. Add to them. Once you do get the upgrades, it’s out of control. Between siege only doors/supply drops/emergency WP/temporary invulnerability, the upgrades get crazy. Which promotes siege play, which at least for our guild, gets boring pretty fast. If I wanted to play Scorched Earth I’d go back to the 90s.
- The keep lords are too strong for small groups, meaning they do not die fast enough for a larger group to come in and wipe them. Small groups have a hard time due: Fortified gates/guild upgrades/guild cata nerf on supply/+5 supply being taken away. You’re HURTING small group play when you wanted to promote it.
- The middle event causes lag and promotes a zerg. In tier 1, we’re at the point where we take a break when the event happens because, what’s the point.
There’s a bit more, but those are the fine points. Here’s some suggestions:
- Remove some chokes, for example the west earth shrine had three channels out to the west from it (where you can be invisible, that area). Just remove the landscape causing the chokes and open the area up! It would provide a large field for open field that I think would be welcomed. Now X times that all over the map.
- Take a look at builds that promote pirate shipping and make adjustments. You made a great fight engine, let people enjoy it! CoR was bugged, the fix is great, but you need to do more.
- Adjust keep lords to scale up to map blobs as they do now but be less with smaller groups then it is currently.
- Shrink the map so that keeps/towers are important to capture, at this point, no one cares. Just let the auto-upgrades happen
– Lastly, on the note of auto-upgrades, increase the time. Right now, Ramparts can go from being paper to tier 3 in about 80 minutes. 80 minutes!!! Due to the lack of engagement from small groups and roamers (chokes hurt them!), there is no one on to keep the yaks pinned down.
My 2 cents, but it’s a long way home.
STILL!?!?!? This was supposed to have been fixed. Here’s my suggestion for players that experience this: go to the exploiters home BL and flip everything you can.
They are cheating so I should punish myself with pvd on the boring BLs? I think you are trying to punish the wrong person.

WvW was already on life support before HoT, with HoT all that happened is they added a new map which is generally disliked more than the old, added mechanics people dislike, didn’t touch the bigger problems with WvW, large scale combat has hit a new low in boredom with Rev hammer 2 and some people who had the delusion that players/guilds would come back to the game got a rude awakening, so HoT was basically the final nail in the coffin for many WvW players.
