If it’s to the player to drive WvW why did they add so much automatic stuff ? And sentry who show ennemy on map ? They remove a lof of human interaction to add scripted AI…

They did some automatic stuff because it was overwhelmingly demanded for. Trolls building questionable siege in order to burn supply to prevent upgrades from occurring were getting bad. But they were building siege that could be argued wasn’t direct trolling.

I am a little unsure how you missed the very daily new thread about trolls, as they occurred, well, daily, because it was such a problem. This solved that. It was extensively discussed in many many threads. I am not certain how you could have missed it.

Sentry’s showing enemies on maps was also very heavily discussed and very often requested. I am not certain how you missed that either to be totally honest.

Both those additions removed many more real problems then the faux problems I see posters having to use paragraphs to try to create.

I often wonder where some of the posters who do not like it were during all of the discussion before the changes occurred. I often see many of the posters complaining, have post history displaying their support in the very aspects they complain about now. Which is really odd.

Even trolls lost their motivation so yeah in that aspect the automated upgrades is a huge success. Instead of having active gamemasters to react on all the reports they came up with this.

I have already say that this map and mechanics are fine for guild playing only at prime time and focusing on fight.
Btw this map is perfect for that.

You join, you don’t care about nothing, just searching the dot from ennemy on map… You run, you make your fight, and you continu.

Don’t need to care about defense, structures are useless. No need to check upgrade, all is automatic. No need for scouts, sentry tell you where the ennemy are and the lord can defend the keep the time you join the fight.

But for a lot of other people, playing at off peak time, that’s not the same story.

Running a havoc guild previously. Anet has destroyed WvW for smaller guilds. We can’t take objectives because we can’t hold enough supplies, which we can’t upgrade because building a guild hall takes large guilds with multiple players working constantly. No one enjoys playing in the borderlands, EB is queued ridiculously. Did any of the Anet developers run with any smaller guilds while “testing out” WvW ? Or was it all zerg. I mean…even pulling the repair merchant from the EB keep and making us go to spawn.

Well to be fair you can’t even do your dalies in Wvw. Ruins master and vet slayer still can’t be bothered to be changed 17 days after it was recognized as a problem….. But then again they did say they were Wvw focused after expac so we can expect some changes soo………. Hahahahahaha T.T we are the unwanted stepchild.

They nerfed the farm nodes, thats enough updates for 2 months. Fixing dailies will be done in january, 2017

I remained hopeful. I tried to be positive. Tried to keep the morale of my server up. But it wasn’t enough. We were a low pop server to begin with, and now the HoT changes it’s killed us.

Just after release of HoT, we lost a significant guild to a higher tier server. Saturday we lost our largest guild to a higher tier server. Sunday another guild plans to leave. Next weekend, the second largest guild is voting on leaving. Yet another guild has started deliberating on leaving and we expect them to do so.

The new maps and the changes to WvW as a result of the HoT expansion have killed us. The new auto-upgrade mechanics have decimated the borderlands. We were a low pop server to begin with, the new borderlands made that almost impossible to hold the borderlands objectives for any period of time now. We just don’t have the coverage.

With the departure of all our larger WvW guilds to higher tiers, looking for larger populations to help fill the maps, those remaining are completely demoralised. From tier 5 a few months ago, we’re about to hit T8.

Combined with the absolutely ludicrous changes the Guild Hall has forced upon us which are clearly disadvantaging smaller guilds, we’ve practically given up on WvW. The Guild Hall alone is so expensive that those of us in smaller guilds are never going to be able to gain anything that would help us in WvW as we did before. The ludicrous level 37 requirement for +5 supply? Are you seriously delusional?

Today one of the co-leaders of my guild informed me that he is not playing anymore. He’s not interested in PvD and hates that we’re being forced into PvE. He hates that the maps feel so completely empty. With the departure of the larger guilds, and the descent to lower tiers, that’s only going to get worse.

Being curious, I checked the guild roster. There are quite a few players that haven’t logged in to the game in between 2 and 3 weeks now. Our guild is dying. Our server is dying. Our community has given up and is either moving away, or quitting the game entirely.

So thank you, Anet. Thank you for destroying the game I enjoyed. I never played PvE or PvP. It was WvW I enjoyed. The chaos of unstructured skirmishes. Not blobs, but skirmishes. And now you’ve destroyed that for us. My server is a ghost land and WvW is merely where you go to get your dailies now.

This was exactly my reason behind my post pleading with the devs to remove auto-upgrades. It has ruined the game for me, now I am no longer needed. After almost 3 yrs of game play…

This. The old love is gone in these new layered pve maps, devs claim to listen yet this very basic feature that makes magic in wvw is taken out.

And what an excellent well written post OP. Im just glad EB isnt all that changed, as that is the map Ive always stayed in. The stealth fountain is redicilous though.

I’ve also saved a lot of money on gems that I’m no longer buying – it’s great! I log in for the daily login reward, look at the prices of some items I’m hoarding, and then log out! I used to play GW2 on the weekend for 10+ hours, and so far I’ve played 5 minutes!

What’s also sad is that I don’t even know what to do on the weekend anymore. I used to play GW2. Now I just sleep.

Couldnt describe it better. It`s sad, its annoying and its rly dissappointing. New BL`s killed small groups/night shifters/roaming. They coul`ve changed BLs or add some new ones, but cmon… Completly removing old ones? Thats totally sux. Something have been lost on the pursuit for freshness and changes. Its not just another weekly complaining of haters, no its something more now, something that may actually kill WvW and possibly whole game now. This isnt right. Dont know if u guys follow moods in game, but WvW will die shortly if u wont do something about it.

In my opinion, anyone who thought upgrading keeps was even in the top 3 things a scout needed to do, is terrible at it.

I never said they upgraded the keeps and crap specifically. Just watching over a keep until it had for example a waypoint was an important task.

Now it doesnt matter anymore. Loose hills, its just another keep. Loose garri, well recap it and it’ll have a waypoint. Why even bother. Upgrades may take a bit longer, but unless there is someone trying to cap things everything will get upgraded. Few people bother to dolly hunt.

If they were not upgrading keeps, then what is your complaint? What were they doing there then, in your experience? If they were not upgrading keeps, then the auto upgrades shouldn’t matter.

If your not watching over a keep now, and ensuring it gets yaks in order to upgrade at double time, then in my opinion, your failing at your job.

Naw, if it was used strategically, it was an essential part of being a good scout.

It could be, yes. But it was not even needed. My point was simply that any passer by could upgrade it. Sometimes players enjoyed that. Other times you had designated players who were donated money to, for the cost, and they ran a route.

In our case, we had a scout pool. A group of us that enjoyed or didn’t mind scouting. Often we simply rotated out in shifts to do other things or participate in different aspects of what was going on in the map.

The new borderlands working out that well for you too eh?

I know, i know conpletely out of context. But you are in a thread about how scouting was killed by the new bl, saying that it wasnt, or shouldnt be. Yet writing about your own scouting groups in the past tense like they no longer exsist. Funny right?

You’re very much like me.

I’m a PUG Commander for NA Tier 6.

My enemies call me BannerMan I think…I used to run a Banner Build to defend Camps.

I’m primarily a Solo Camp Capper that worked my World Server into taking larger objectives.

Previously…on the old Alpine map…Enemies that knew who I was…would spare my life on their Home Borderland map if they caught me flipping their camp. The Enemy that knew me would choose mercy.

When they did show mercy…I would quickly leave their Home Borderland to Solo Camp Cap elsewhere in return for their mercy.

It’s easier to show mercy…letting me go…instead of having to deal with a single person flipping all their camps & tapping their towers & keeps for hours.

Yes…the New Desert Borderlands sadly encourages another game play style.

I think in another thread…I mentioned that I watch more tv & do more fun things now instead of playing WvW.

I’m sure people can argue the new map is nice & the mechanics are awesome, but for me…it’s been a wet towel on the burning passion I used to have for WvW.

Change Base Map Mechanic

Players choose 1 Globe to represent

Old Servers are Transformed into Globes

Globes are re-named after their Old World Server’s Name

Each Globe owns 4 maps in WvW

Players can enter any Globe from a list of all NA and EU Globes

Players will have a limit on how many globes they can enter per week

ANet can change in a single setting how many Globes that ALL players can enter per week to prevent un-fair matches, and to stop players from trying to game the system

Limit can vary from 0-3 Globes. Zero for Tournaments

Home team is shown in random order the Top 3 Enemies attacking them to help them target who to attack



Allow Individual Player Picked Globe Match-Ups

Currently. When you enter WvW. You enter a World Server based map

You see 4 Maps

Server A – Owns Green
Server B – Owns Red
Server C – Owns Blue
Shared – EB


New Globe. When you enter WvW. You enter a Globe based map

Globe A
Server A – Owns Green
Server A – Owns Red
Server A – Owns Blue
Shared – EB

Globe B
Server B – Owns Green
Server B – Owns Red
Server B – Owns Blue
Shared – EB

Globe C
Server C – Owns Green
Server C – Owns Red
Server C – Owns Blue
Shared – EB

Globe D – Z
Not going to repeat the above for each Globe


Players from Globe A

Can always fight in their Home Globe A

Can fight in Enemy Globes B-Z

Player Picks Globe B & fights there

Player Picks Globe C, but can’t enter it because they’ve reached the Globe limit of 3

Player can only fight in Globe B, M, Z for the week until the Globe limit resets the following week

ANet can increase or decrease this Weekly number of Globes a player can go to. The range is 0-3 Globes per week

Players are free to pick & choose to fight in any Globe up to the Weekly Globe Limit

Players can meet up with friends on a Shared Enemy Globe & be Allies fighting together


Battle is very dynamic. People will not sit in a Globe & wait for attacks

The Globe based design allows players from 24 NA Globes & 27 EU Globes to move fluidly across all Globes

The only restriction to being the 0-3 Globe Limit for players. This number that can be adjusted to 1 Globe if necessary by ANet to prevent un-fair matches. Also helps to keep players from gaming the system


The Best Defense requires Better Offense

Each Home Globe will be shown in Random Order…the Top 3 Globes attacking them

A typical strategy to stop Enemies from attacking you…is that you attack them

New Base Map Mechanic allows your Home Globe to team up with friends in other Globes to beat the snot out of the Enemy attacking your Home Globe

This is where we will get dynamic Match-Ups which the Old Tier based system doesn’t allow


The New Map Mechanic was done this way to promote this cycle

Globes that want to stop fighting can, but they will drop in Rank

When they stop fighting…the Enemy Globe attacking them will get a new list for their Top 3 Globes attacking them

Mixing, swapping, or REDUCING the number of Borderland maps used is possible with this proposal, but I’m not sure if it’s feasible from a programming standpoint

This Reboot of Base Map Mechanic & Population is flexible enough to work with the Old Alpine Map or New Desert Map

Using Parts of this proposal without the core Base Map Mechanic change may not work as intended


This proposal is not perfect, but at least it allows players to go where the fun is without sacrificing Server Pride & Identity.

Any system that automatically manipulates match-ups on behalf of the players will do this poorly imho.

This Server based solution lets players decide their own match-ups individually…while collectively encouraging a War between Worlds on a massive scale.

4) Blue corner of Eternal Battle Map of Any World Globe

Choosing the Green or Blue Portal will now prompt players to pick from a list of All World Globes on Weekly Reset

Choosing the Green or Blue Portal will give players a customized list based on their Weekly choices & ANet’s enforced Guesting limit after Weekly Reset

Map travel using the (M)ap shortcut key allows simple travel to spawn points within a chosen World Globe

Players can continue to Globe stack if they want. Powerful Guilds can continue to try to dominate the Top 3 Rank WvW positions

ANet would probably adjust the Weekly Globe limit that players can visit to 1 for the week to force the #1 Ranked NA & EU Globes to become the King of the Hill

If Weekly Globe limit is set to 1. Once a player attacks a Globe

That Specific Chosen Globe is the only Globe that the player will be able to attack for the whole week…until the next Weekly Globe Reset occurs

A very large Guild could hold hostage the Top 3 Ranked Globes, but the New Base Mechanic will at least allow all the Lower Ranked Globes to attack them

Current Base Map Mechanic does not even allow the Lowest Ranked World to attack the #1 Ranked WvW World


Lower Ranked Globes earn more points attacking Higher Ranked Globes

Higher Ranked Globes earn less points attacking Lower Ranked Globes

Home Globe Team will be shown the 3 Top Globes attacking in a random order to provide targeting

King of Hill Buff – Bottom 3 WvW Ranked Worlds get an automatic buff when attacking any Top WvW Ranked World’s Home Globes. Cross Global Theaters of War attacks also trigger Buff


If ANet has to enforce a Weekly Globe Limit of 1 Globe

Severely stacked Globes will be exposed to attack from All Globes, but their armies would be forced to divide itself in retaliation attacks along multiple Globe fronts

Bottom 3 Ranked Globes actually always get an Automatic Buff for attacking any Top 3 Globes

Top 3 Ranked Globes really don’t benefit from attacking the Bottom 3 Ranked Globes


Nothing will prevent all Globes from picking 1 Globe to attack, but given the mechanic that encourages players to visit 0-3 Globes…you can be pretty sure…somebody will decide to attack a different Globe to raise their Home Globe’s Rank over the other Globes

Globes Base design is to encourage Local & International Communities to form

Globe identity encourages a Strong Sense of Community & Hard Fought Rivalries imho


This is a long term solution that encourages Local & International WvW Communities to form & become established…then nurtured

Over time…Communities will be born, grow up, age, and die…the cycle of life


Both NA & EU #1 Ranked Globes would earn less for being the King of the Hill…because nobody is above them in Rank

The Globe based design allows players from all 24 NA Globes & 27 EU Globes to move fluidly across all Globes

Current Base Map Mechanic Does Not Allow players to fluidly fight across all World Servers

It’s more fun to be able to fight in any Globe of your choice for the week

Current Base Map Mechanic has you typically fighting the same Server in the same Tier for weeks…if not months…over and over again

The only restriction to being the 0-3 Globe Limit for players. This number that can be adjusted to 1 Globe if necessary by ANet to prevent un-fair matches & to keep players from gaming the system


Players can choose to fight in any NA & EU Globe

Ah that times when I was watching live stream where Devs were excited about ADVENTURE, EXPLORING, FUN while doing precursor crafting. I had so much hope ill exchange time i would spend on grinding money on some really exciting traveling around Tyria. Of course i didnt expect it to be totally free but at least 50% discount in compare to TP.

And as we find out that adventure, exploring and fun is gonna be on Silverwastes.

How many quit playing WvW since new maps?

I’ve moved on, it is obvious the devs are either clueless or just totally incompetent. Don’t even log in for the daily rewards anymore, let alone doing the daily achievement.

WvW was always my fallback when PvE got boring (usually about an hour after logging in). But HoT is so pathetically horrible that I’ve given up on the game completely. PvE and WvW are a sad pathetic shadow of what they once were. Now it’s all grinding and paywalls. What a joke.

HoT is basically a game that took everything away that I worked for and made me pay for the “privilege” of working on it all over again. ANET is the laziest bunch of devs I have ever seen.

The stickying of this thread was only a convenience measure for forum members suggested by forum members. It’s really that simple.

But dont you see how even this post is making things worse?

By the community, for the community.
For 3 years the WvW community has suggested many things, many ways to improve WvW. We’ve even had devs reply saying how great some of the ideas are.
Yet we’ve still had nothing from them regarding these!

In GW1 you were very active taking to all, you could be found in game especially during events and you talk actively ingame as well.
In GW2, I’ve not seen you once, and as with all devs and mods, you try to stay away from the WvW forums, and anything you do say seems as if it isnt you who has written it, or you are being forced to follow very strict censorship orders.

The simple fact is that the WvW community is leaving the game again.
The simple fact is that those who are remaining are screaming for help in the WvW forums!
The simple fact is that the WvW community continue to give their advice and ideas
The simple fact is that the devs continue to ignore us
It is this that is really that simple!

I also see you have quietly removed the sticky for the new WvW Forum Specialist. Why is that? I mean talk about throwing yourself into the fire!

Despite being unable to talk about things in development for fear of stringing us along, I think some of us (I know I am guilty of this) expected a little more communication

And by trying to not string us along, they’ve strung us along for 3 whole years with a whole lot of “we cannot talk about it”, events which none of us asked for but they claim we did, and after 3 years of saying we dont want PvE in WvW, they finally give us a new WvW map which has so much PvE it’s like they listened to us and then did the opposite! And now look at the borderlands, they are all empty!

Complained about WvW before it became cool.
I used to be a PvE player like you, then I played Guild Wars 2
