My opinion is that this is way too low priority. I understand there are other important matters, such as the expansion. However, those of us with thousands of hours invested for exclusive in-game items which are missing can’t be expected to be content with the developer’s priorities.
Different people work on different things. It takes time to develop the tools, unless people would prefer accounts get royally messed up and lose data…

Sounds like they’re giving it decent priority. Things just take time sometimes, and having to create something completely new for their system is one of those things.
I don’t care how old this thread is, a hard to find thread on a forum is no excuse for there being NO WARNING about this happening.
I just waved good-bye to 6 Mystic Coins because I made a new character first thing of the day, then deleted it to re-make it without touching the flashing chest icon.
Want to bind the daily to the first thing of the day that sees light? Okay, but for KITTENS sake, throw in a godkitten warning!

I have 5 max level chars before the first PS change; all of them with personal story completed. When I heard the horrible things they’ve done to the already fragmented, inconsistent personal story, I vowed to never create another character again no matter what new race or class GW2 gets later. With this, I can finally start a Revenant and anticipate the PS in its better state, and looking forward to see the tweaks to key character’s lines and voice over.
But this setback will not be forgotten. It shows bad things can happen in a completely unexpected and arbitrary way while the person did the change think they made some improvement. The biggest problem with the PS was never chronological order or difficulty anyway. I hope next time ANet does something drastic thinking it’s good for the players and can “reduce confusion”, a reality check should be commenced and public feedback should be consulted.
No not wrong at all SD
It’s frustrating for everyone who has this problem; it only started after one of the big updates and was not a problem before that, so it is definitely due to something that got changed or added, and no indication has ever been given that it will be fixed or even that it is being looked at.
My biggest worry is in case whatever is causing this also affects the ‘gliding’ skill in the HoT expac. If I buy it and then found that was impossible for me to do, then I would be really, REALLY upset.
[SNIP] It’s been roughly eight weeks since I started this thread, so here’s an update.
Bobby,
Once again, I have to express my appreciation for your commitment to communication. As far as I’m concerned, this is perfect:
1. You gave a very loose and tentative time frame
2. When that time frame was nearly expired, you popped back into the thread with an update to let us know that it will be a bit longer yet.
And the best part is that, contrary to the beliefs of some, the world did not end. There was no rioting and looting of the forums. Imagine that.
It’s such a simple thing, but what you’re doing in this thread goes a loooooong way to reestablishing my trust and goodwill in ANet as a company. If the standard of communication in this thread were the norm, I would be a totally happy and loyal ANet customer.
Furthermore, if we had the technology for me to embed delicious pastries into this post for you, I would do so to emphasize how completely stellar you are, and to tempt everyone else at ANet to follow your lead. Perhaps you can pass that idea along and encourage the powers that be to give us a rough idea of when this forum pastry technology can be ready for a beta test?
Thanks ever so much!

It’s been roughly eight weeks since I started this thread, so here’s an update. All major assets for the Personal Story restoration are in place in our development environment. We’re testing and bug fixing now.
While I don’t have an official release date to share at this time, I can say that you have a little more time to get your characters into the desired state of Personal Story progress. Please refer to the details in the original post when making your own evaluation.
You might be asking yourself why I don’t have a date to share yet. It’s because we’re looking at a few potential release dates on the calendar. We also want to factor in some wiggle room in case we discover any big issues during our testing pass or we encounter any other technical or resource surprises along the way. You know, game development stuff.
As always, thanks for your patience and support.
I’ve nothing to add. I just wanted to say cheers for providing occasional updates regarding this, it’s been a pleasant change.
Thanks for the update! I’m excited to finish the PS on my more recent level 80’s

So, the closest potential release date is the time I’m looking for. Giving us that date would mean that the release will be released at some point AFTER that date.
Is there a chance for you to tell us that date so we don’t bother you asking questions or asking for updates until that moment? If it’s not possible for you to do so, we (or at least I) understand that it’s not your decision to share that information or not.
And I hope we can get what I’m asking here. Anyway, thanks for the update you’ve already given us. Have a good day, Bobby
PS: If you don’t have a date don’t bother answering this >:( … jk ;P

Thanks for keeping us in the loop!

Holy bejeeses, we got an update. See, that wasn’t so tough. Now if only a few other issues could get a quick update on these forums.
My Warrior will just continue to sit and wait in front of the pale tree I guess.

Played originally on a family members account beforr NPE. Havijg come back and tried it for awhile I have to say I hate the changes.
Feels very restricting. Level based weapon and secondary unlocks was mostly upsetting. Dumbed down events like Jebs wheatfield kind of ruined the original fun and coordination with others involved. I think some heart quests had “options” removed as well.
Storyline dumps at 10 level intervals are kind of inconsistent with some of the narratives that suggest you come back a little later for the next quest. The pacing was much better as it was originally.
Edit: oh, hiding map completion until 15 was very annoying. As is thd locked skill challenges until 13. I know it’s account based after that, but still.
I also have gripes with the free gear that is better thsn anything that can be crafted or looted.
I don’t know. I feel like it’s an annoying and linear experience now starting a new character

Even MORE steps between having lost claw island and getting fort trinity? Way to go anet, you have managed to degrade my experience even more. Remove some of the steps so you do not make it even longer for us who have not reached there yet.
These are steps that should never have been removed in the first place and are arguably the best part of the later story line. Getting them back is something many of us have been demanding since they were removed because we believe they enhance the experience. Nothing is stopping you from going to Ft. Trinity (or beyond) any time you wish outside of the PS.
3. This one is tricky because we have a strict policy against allowing GMs to make contact in-game outside of a few unique circumstances for reasons of security. I’ll take another review and see if we can help further.
Perhaps a status update every patch/month?
Last month:
512 bugs were stepped on with massive hobnailed boots
256 cobwebs were swept off the servers
128 wvw hackers were terminated with extreme prejudice
64 baby quaggans were arrested for excessive cuteness
32 exploits were tortured into obedience
16 paboos were caught stalking Gaile
8 bots were hog tied and hung in the alley behind the server farm.
4 cupcakes were taken hostage by John Smith
2 captive GMs were released into the wild
1 partidge was placed in a pear tree
We get to see that things were dealt with without you needing to make personal responses to each report in game
Might be good to have a posted list of GM’s in each servers that we can reach out.
As was said, they don’t communicate except under special circumstances anyways.
And they’d get messaged by many for countless reasons, as well as able to be followed and someone could use that to ‘avoid detection’ by leaving a map every time they enter it.
I can’t speak to tools. I can tell you that using the ‘botter’ option is indeed sufficient.
I can’t help but feel that reporting a ‘botter’ does not quite have the required urgency when a player is speedhacking, flying, and disrupting the normal play of all 3 servers.
To remove someone using hacks (teleports, speed, etc) we have to witness the act in game so you must use the in-game reporting tool.
I’ve been running into a lot of gathering bots in PvE lately. They’re underneath the terrain and I’m not able to target them, so there is no way to report them using the in game tool. I’ve been putting in support tickets – 5 or 6 over the last 2 weeks. However, it really is a serious pain to need to alt-tab, pull up the website, fill out the form, etc.
Can you look at providing us an easier way to report bots that we can’t target using an in game system? I’d guess this might help in WvW exploit situations, too.
You can type the name into your block list, and then report from there. I did that for the one gathering bot I saw under the map, but for some names that won’t be easy. Best way is to quickly screenshot and then do it that way. You can always use the character map tool in windows or something to get the special characters.
Yeah, soon as I see them now, I screenshot so I can report. Didn’t think of adding them to my block list. Guess that’s faster, but I’d still like a better way to report them than having to workaround having to target/rightclick them.
Why can’t I just type “/report Botname is a bot harvesting nodes from under the terrain in Mapname” and move on with my game?

Well, at least the process is clear now.
The exploits address is for reporting exploits so the team can gather data and work towards a solution to close the exploit. The exploits address is not monitored by Customer Support. CS monitors the in-game reports and tickets opened on the customer support page.

The problem is: The in-game reporting tool doesn’t give an option to actually point the person is hacking. And a lot of people are afraid of reporting for somenthing else because we risk getting our accounts suspended for “false report”.
Can Anet at least add a “Hacking” option on the report list?
WvW Rank 3800 (Platinum Veteran) – PvP Rank 69 (Shark) – 25,9k Achievment Points
Mërcenaries [Sold] – Ferguson’s Crossing
Keep in mind that usually GMs do not shout out that they are GMs (or use their tag for that matter).

Hallo,
Interestingly this does not repro on any of our internal environments but as soon as I let someone check on live it was instant. We are now tracking this bug but it is too early for me to have any further information.
It’s not uncommon for ANet (or other software companies) to make balance or UI fixes when convenient rather than when discovered. For example, waiting to fix an item-description error until they do a general overhaul of all descriptions.
That said, I really wish their game update details were more comprehensive. There are all sorts of noteworthy changes that never get any notes, including QoL updates, minor rebalances (such as this might be), fixing of major annoyance, etc.
Generally the devs don’t watch a video without a detailed description of what they might find. Maybe you can add to your post above a list of the bugs you want them to investigate, even if those bugs have been reported before.
I’ll go ahead and comment on this thread, as it seems to be the most recent of the HOM ones.
I’ll try to explain this without getting too technical, and some parts are probably going to have to be left out.
The bug that caused players to unlock achievements/skins/titles and achievement points was caused when the GW1 server that stores the HOM status talks to the GW2 server that controls new character creation. Basically it was sending bad data to the GW2 server, and unlocking achievements that should not have been unlocked.
This means that there were multiple problem points that need to be cleaned up. The first thing to be cleaned up was the bug that caused this to happen, and that was fixed within a few hours. However, the removal of the rewards is an entirely different problem.
We don’t have the tools to easily mass remove achievements/titles, which means it’s something that has to be developed. Unfortunately, this came at a time where our resources are tapped to the max, so it’s taking longer than we would like to fix this.
Thankfully (lol), when the HOM rewards bug was happening, the actual HOM was not accessible, and those players were not able to claim any other HOM entitlements…so the damage was somewhat limited.
We are working on this, I assure you, and we will remove the rewards from players that should not have received them. I do not have a timeframe, as modifying accounts at this type of level is not something we would ever take lightly, and as long as we keep a majority of the entitlements locked there is less for us to clean up.
I tend to be less technical in my replies on the specifics of what goes into fixes, but this recent post from Chris Cleary goes into detail on what is planned for this fix.

Sounds like we still have a rather long wait in front of us
It won’t be next release, but there is progress being made. This fix will debut on a release day to much fanfare though.
tldr: ANet is aware of the bug and working on a fix. It’s just not as simple as you might think.
