There’s no real point in asking the forum if you’ll get it back. No one can tell you from here. You’ll have to contact support and see what they say. Send them the screenshot with the ticket in case that helps.

Tequatl broken after patch

Illconceived Was Na.9781

It is not tequatl specific. It affected a lot of Shattererererer maps and also people trying for SAM in Field of Ruins. From what various comments:

  • It tends to happen when a lot of people are entering or leaving an instance.
  • It might be related to a bug in volunteering, i.e. kicking everyone from an instance instead of offering an opportunity to move.
  • Even so, somehow the client isn’t synchronizing its progress to the sever, so it’s not so much a “roll back” (from the server side) as it is, “you say you did what? I don’t remember that.” (Equally frustrating to the player, but probably an ickier problem to solve for ANet).

There are a lot of similar posts, btw; you probably didn’t see them because you were looking at Tequatl.

I am not sure there is much they can actually do about it.

The message is generally sent by a hacked account, in hopes that someone will go to the link, so they can steal another account. Such accounts are used by gold sellers as well.

Although Anet has taken steps, and continues to do things to stop gold sellers, in the end it’s up to the end user and their account/computer security. If you have a weak password over multiple accounts, non secure internet connections, weak/outdated/no existant firewalls, anti-virus, etc. then you are more likely to be “hacked”. Especially if you go to links like the one above…

Just report, and move on. Theres not much else you can do.

A Cure Worse Than The Disease

The grand irony of the NPE is that the developers became alarmed that a large percentage of players weren’t using traits and were otherwise lagging behind as they leveled up, so rather than educating them directly about these features, they redesigned the game to make everyone play the way they tried to “fix” in the first place.

Here’s hoping this benighted method of problem solving is no longer in vogue at ArenaNet.

The NPE treats players like idiots. There’s a difference between pointing out facets of the game and helping to pace abilities and cutting players’ legs out from under them. Easier fights in starter zones is the norm, but this is sad.

Nothing was broken before but it is now. Leveling is horrible since NPE.
So why not just use to old leveling system but keep the rewards?
This way everyone would be happy.

Hall of Monuments Update?

The Skins/pets from 1-30 HoM discounting the titles & ap. If your linked atm you can still get the ap/titles but nothing else.

Something i at least am grateful for.

well it shouldn’t take over a month to fix the exploit and re activate the HoM

As for this, it took two months for anet to fix the rangers pet mechanic, a month and a half to fix challenge motes, and 3 months to fix guild chat. It takes them a long time to fix things.

there are over 3.5 mill accounts, let’s see how fast you work with that amount of work AND having tons of other stuff to do.

I’ll go ahead and comment on this thread, as it seems to be the most recent of the HOM ones.

I’ll try to explain this without getting too technical, and some parts are probably going to have to be left out.

The bug that caused players to unlock achievements/skins/titles and achievement points was caused when the GW1 server that stores the HOM status talks to the GW2 server that controls new character creation. Basically it was sending bad data to the GW2 server, and unlocking achievements that should not have been unlocked.

This means that there were multiple problem points that need to be cleaned up. The first thing to be cleaned up was the bug that caused this to happen, and that was fixed within a few hours. However, the removal of the rewards is an entirely different problem.

We don’t have the tools to easily mass remove achievements/titles, which means it’s something that has to be developed. Unfortunately, this came at a time where our resources are tapped to the max, so it’s taking longer than we would like to fix this.

Thankfully (lol), when the HOM rewards bug was happening, the actual HOM was not accessible, and those players were not able to claim any other HOM entitlements…so the damage was somewhat limited.

We are working on this, I assure you, and we will remove the rewards from players that should not have received them. I do not have a timeframe, as modifying accounts at this type of level is not something we would ever take lightly, and as long as we keep a majority of the entitlements locked there is less for us to clean up.

But if the damage is limited to titles and you’ve fixed the bug meaning that it won’t happen again, why can’t the HoM be re-opened?

It’s limited to titles because they closed it down before it spread. If they open it back up, then there can be people who go in and get items they aren’t supposed to. The bug fix only stopped more people from being hit by this bug. It didn’t reverse it for the ones that did get it.

He said: “Thankfully (lol), when the HOM rewards bug was happening, the actual HOM was not accessible, and those players were not able to claim any other HOM entitlements…so the damage was somewhat limited”

In other words, if they open it up before they figure out how to remove titles and items, the damage will not be limited to titles.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Core game problems to be forgotten?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Any game of this size is bound to have bugs. Not all of them will get fixed. A lot of times, stuff that does get fixed isn’t included in the patch notes, so people don’t realize just how much changes. (For example, at launch, harvesting nodes could sometimes result in ruined ore, wood, or fiber; that has since been fixed.)

In terms of setting priorities, the usual practice is to look at

  • scope (how many players are affected),
  • severity (how much are individuals affected),
  • difficulty (how easy is it to figure out what’s wrong and fix it),
  • opportunity (can this be fixed with other changes or fixes),
  • importance (how much does it matter in the grand scheme of things),
  • interoperability (how much does adjusting this affect other things), and
  • luck (was it noticed sooner or later, was it described well, was there sufficient data to troubleshoot, is there a test environment set up suitable for replicating/confirming fixes, …)

Some stuff is just easier to take care of; some stuff is easier to ignore; and some stuff is just plain annoying to tackle. So, we’ll continue to see some old bugs, get new ones, and plenty will also get fixed.

If there are specific issues you want to be addressed more quickly, try providing detailed troubleshooting data to ANet (via the in-game /bug tool or here). Bugs are more likely to get fixed when we can make it easier for ANet to identify, replicate, and troubleshoot.

With the current state of the game and its bugs, do you think with the release of HoT, that it hopes to get us to forget these problems? Or are we just at the point of just tolerating the broken content and expect things to never get fixed? I’m speaking of stuff like :

- Grenth teleporting you behind walls / terrain, forcing you to relog to fix yourself

- Dwayna getting pushed into a corner and clipping through the wall and becoming ‘obstructed’ for ranged

- Melandru events bugging out almost every week

- AC burrows putting you through walls when you destroy them while on top of the burrows. Grast dying in p3, people waypointing ahead and breaking the dungeon

- Things being obstructed even with a direct visible path to the target

- Personal story bugs, fractal bugs, dungeon bugs, profession bugs

Just some of things from the top of my head, and the list goes on. Any hope some of this content will be fixed or even reworked to be more interesting, or will HoT just make the core content a thing of the past?

There is no “temporary” fix as they are not all the same bug. They look the same on the player end but they are not all the same fix. Would be nice if it was.

Would like to remind the community of the post Chris Whiteside (Studio Design Director) wrote:

Hi All,

I would like to thank everyone for their support toward the pioneering work we are doing, as we drive the world of Tyria forward.
The passion, and intelligence that our community devotes to making this game great is both humbling and essential.

Regarding our process in terms of forum usage as a development tool:

The reality is we do read our forums, and others, every single day. If you look over the last year, and cross reference with community feedback you will see many ideas actioned and many more not.

The communication pipeline in most part lacks one very important component. Specifically, ArenaNet having more time to feedback on your ideas, concerns and our own plans.

I am not one for excuses, but I do believe in being black and white. ArenaNet has been extremely busy of late listening to you all, evolving systems, providing ground breaking content, delivering adventures at a near real time pace, and tackling some very exciting problems.

We have, with your support, created a truly unique platform. One which is in its infancy, and one we build with the continued support, and collaboration of the community.

We do need to build out more time to be in dialog with you, specifically, following up on our own investigations of your suggestions and concerns.
We will work harder to achieves this.

We are also trying to forge a truly ‘Living World’. Therefore with your continued support, and patience we can continue to break new ground. Not just with world of Tyria, but with the method by which we build worlds ‘together’.

All of this said, I wanted to make it clear that whilst we avidly read our forums, we pay little, to no, attention to posts that are disrespectful to other members of our community or our development team. Our developers work very hard to listen to the community, and work tirelessly to create content and features that they hope the community will love. Likewise, the constructive members of our community work hard to provide our development team with feedback that abides with our collaborative standards and overall community philosophy of having a productive, welcoming, and friendly culture. This is a true partnership.

Our goal with Guild Wars 2 is to drive the creation of online worlds forward, thereby creating original, ‘stand-out’ content that pushes the boundaries of what it means to journey through a Living World. Any endeavor on this scale is going to have its challenges, and therefore as a team, we are fully prepared to make mistakes, learn from them, and make even better experiences as we move forward. We see problems not as failures but as opportunities, essentially a necessary part of Tyria and our Team’s evolution. It is with this understanding that we work with our community to move forward in the space and truly realize great things.

One key to understanding our philosophy to building worlds is that we don’t give more attention to feedback simply because it is the noisiest, most aggressive, or delivered in the most inflammatory way. We take on board all constructive feedback and actively discuss it, and then make a decision to backlog the item or move forward with it (the development of which can sometimes take longer than some give it credit for). Therefore do not expect feedback to be implemented just because it is something you feel very strongly about. We just don’t develop like that. We instead work with our community to help us navigate these uncharted waters, taking on board all advice and measuring them against the pillars of the Guild Wars 2 and the direction we ultimately want to move in as a whole.

Therefore you have to ask yourself: Is this a journey you want to take? Are you comfortable with expecting the unexpected, and ultimately working together in a positive and productive manner through thick and thin, to pioneer in a space that the team at ArenaNet feel is of huge importance? Many of you are not only comfortable with this paradigm but embrace it, and your contribution, as you know has already shaped Tyria immensely, for which we are extremely grateful and excited about.

Regardless of whether you wish to collaborate in the spirit outlined above or not, I ask that you remain respectful to your fellow man/woman, and be constructive in your approach to the development of the game, and understand Tyria is made up of communities and not individuals.

So thank you all so much for your support, passion and collaboration, and please understand that ArenaNet is an amazing team with an amazing community. And together we build worlds!

any word on “My Greatest Fear”?

“The Cost of Victory” is pretty much the only Achievement I have left in Hero Achievs. Within the 4 months that I’ve been back playing GW2. I’ve mananged to lvl 8 characters and all have completed the main storyline.

I have one mule that I can run though the storyline again which is fine. I can burn through them pretty quick, but I assume “The Cost of Victory” is directly related to “My Greatest Fear” restoration… which I had to look up because it was the only thing missing.

I always thought it was weird doing the storyline 8x and tree lady kept asking me those weird questions about my fear no reason :S

Many Issues Not Just One

I’m sorry you are frustrated with the game.

You’ll get more traction if you create a post for each bug you think is in the game, along with some details that would help ANet track down the cause and implement a fix…or to get help understanding why it might not be a bug.

Any software with this much code behind it is bound to have bugs, especially given how players love to test its limits. And there are some issues with the current game that are annoying and/or block progress to one aspect of the game or another. However, it’s not anything close to being “like the game just imploded.” It’s about par for the course, but with some more noticeable issues.
First, the three things you mentioned that appear to be bugs:

  • Skills that go off and don’t do a thing: that could be latency, which would also explain some of the other things you are seeing.
  • TP not working — no, it really is working 99% of the time or better, so that, too is probably lag.
  • Sounds going nuts — that is something support can help you with. It’s not a general problem for most players.

Next, the three thing that aren’t ‘bugs’ but player behavior:

  • WvW bullying — report the players using the in-game /report player. If necessary, take screens and report via a support ticket.
  • Fly hackers who change scores in WvW — there are a few griefers, but it isn’t as widespread as you make it seem. Regardless, also report them.
  • Legally actionable bullying — if you are being bullied, definitely /block the individuals and report them ASAP. ANet doesn’t tolerate bullying. (Do make sure you aren’t responding in kind — that makes it difficult for ANet to respond, for a variety of reasons.)

Good luck.

Guys stop flaming about it. Sure it sucks but instead of just being negative about it, give them ideas of things they can do to fix it. You really think they are going to listen to you when your always so negative and outright mean to them? Sure more communication would be nice and I feel like we get ignored more than the rest of the community but they are human and they still deserve respect and some form of decency.

TO ANET: Since this is going to take a week or more, can you please revert this change at the very least until you can fix it properly. Spending hours of our game time to play content which cannot be completed for the possible reward of a Fractal Skin (the only reason we do fractals) is completely absurd. Out of 3 fractal attempts today we got Molten all 3 times which we had to abandon and start over. If nothing else, remove Molten from the rotation until this is fixed. I understand you dis-like those who exploit it by “safe spotting” and you have the right to fix it when you wish and I encourage it. However, another week of people taking advantage of it isn’t going to hurt anything it’s already been like this for well over a year.

Interesting question indeed.

Personally, I would love if a person you blocked is being displayed with a red colour in the lfg-interface, similar to how a person you have as a friend is being displayed with a blue colour. This should take care of PvE-related activities.

For PvP, adjusting matchmaking so it won’t assign you into a team with someone you have blocked should be perfectly possible as well.

Given that there’s no indication of any of this information in the game itself, or the launcher, how is it fair to players to make it impossible to access so much of this content? I decided to work on some Personal Story progress today on a whim, and found out after my session that I have permanently locked myself out of Greatest Fear and other quests through no fault of my own, with no warning. This information should have been in the patcher since the day this was announced, and there should be a warning in-game when starting the respective quests. I’m… both angry and disappointed at this failure on the part of the developers. I hope there will be some form of reparations, and some attempt to fix this by way of making the quests available at a future date.

As a suggestion, other games such as The Secret World have fixed this kind of problem by producing duplicates of their story quests which are repeatable and replayable, made available as soon as the respective quests were done for the first time. It wouldn’t be enough to make up for the loss of rewards and the show of bad developer judgement, but it would be something.

The very same thought, that the Destiny’s Edge dungeons should also be playable with 1 – 5 players, had occurred to me too. I decided I wouldn’t say anything until the current mentioned update occurred, for fear it’d push the release back weeks.

Now that the thought is out there, I’d recommend that they go ahead and release the final stage adjustments to the Personal Story as suggested, then make the adjustments to the Destiny’s Edge dungeons. I’d really like to see that content, and I’d prefer not to have to get a pug and find out no one wants to wait for me to watch the videos…

I have the same issue. While I have some of the cute scenes I’ve not seen all of them and I would love to see them with it being my toon interacting with the npcs XD

Though I admit I have started to look into soloing this content. AC story wasn’t too hard, the two lovers are the worst part and because I hadn’t realized my bow was what was killing me I called in a friend the first time to duo that fight but that friend hung back while I killed the king. But soloing is a lot harder than going in with a group and is a lot longer of a time spent in the dungeon if you’re only after the cute scenes.

I would rather they restore the personal story and finish HoT before worrying about dungeons. There is a lot wrong with dungeons and not with just the idea of not being able to see the storyline in the story mode after all the same thing happened with the story content in GW1 where most people skipped and got mad at you if you didn’t skip the content. It’s just the way it is in most games. People want the reward for doing the content but not worry about seeing the same story over and over again.

If there is one complaint I have in relation to this future update is inconsistency where the story dungeons before that would remain as they are but only the Arah dungeon will be changed. I think it would only be deemed appropriate if the story dungeons have adjustable levels of difficulty depending on how many people you are able to bring from 1-5.

I would also like to see the other story dungeons given this treatment and then also fit into the personal story where they belong in the context of the story. That way when you reach Arah the last thing you experienced from Destiny’s Edge was the group working through their issues and accepting each other, not the group coming together for a moment only to break up even more thoroughly back at level 30.

Having played both pre and post-NGE, as well as 10 years of MMO experience and 25 years of gaming:

- I am VERY grateful I had 5 characters created prior to NGE last year. Since then I’ve leveled a new warrior, and an engineer. Both were beneficiaries of Experience scrolls (so basically started at level 20). Both of them are post NPE, though.

- The slow unlocking of weapon skills just makes early level combat very stale. As someone who has parroted this game over other MMOs, this can tend to be a turn off to any new players who happen to be veterans of other MMOs (or games, even).

- Trait unlock system, while on the surface looks like a great idea, is a hassle. On my post NGE characters, I’ve had to either go around my hindquarters to get to my elbow…er trait unlocks, or simply save up skill points/cash and buy them. With the engineer in particular, I have had to buy all of his, since I literally had none unlocked upon unlocking traits in general. If Anet insists on keeping this in place to promote exploration of the game…maybe make the unlocks account wide? Otherwise, I would simply ask to have the old system back.

- Leveling rewards: I like getting items/loot upon leveling. That is really nice. I’m not so fond of how skill points and attributes come in chunks, though. I would rather see them be more gradual and consistent. Nothing like being a skill point or two short for buying that first elite skill, going out of the way to get the points, then BOOM, there’s 7-8 points at level 33 or 34 (I forget which; wasn’t long after unlocking elite at 31 though, iirc).

- Personal Story: Like skill points and attributes, I don’t like how this comes in chunks, either. I liked it prior to NPE, where you could do a story quest, then go out in the world and gain a level or two, then if you wanted to jump right back on your quest, now you can. As it stands now, I’m simply leveling alts all the way to 80, then doing world completion, and if time permits prior to HoT release, I’ll do the story quests on them, so that I can do them in one fell swoop.

These are my experiences, so I speak only for me. I see the intent of the NPE, but I believe overall it misses the mark. It has some positives, as I’ve pointed out, but overall, I believe it’s an shining example of the adage “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. The game wasn’t totally broken prior to NPE.

The new trait system is absolutely terrible beyond a doubt. It makes classes harder to level and leveling more boring and sucky because you have to wait a ridiculously long time to get traits that are core to a class to even function.

I’m not going to defend the trait system as I agree it was a step backwards, but there are absolutely no traits that are so core to a class to make it not functional while leveling up.

Why do I say this? Because I’ve leveled up 2 alts now during NPE and have hit 80 no problem. Once you hit 80 you can start worrying about what kind of traits you need for specific dungeon runs, fractals, wvw, whatever. But while leveling up you absolutely do not need any of them. I’ve hit 80 without spending a single trait point (through normal map completion means, and not EoTM). Quite honestly I forget I even have trait points.

Oh, you’ve leveled up all two of the professions so you can unequivocally say that there are no traits so core to a class to make it not functional while leveling up? Huh. Well, it’s a good thing there aren’t eight professions with their own strengths and weaknesses.

And if you’re arguing that traits are meaningless (“…honestly, I forget I even have trait points.”), I’m kind of wondering if that’s an even bigger indictment of the entire system. I cannot possibly imagine finding the difference in having traits negligible, and while I was known to forget to assign points right away at times, I also can tell the difference in a well-traited character, versus untraited.

And this shows exactly what Anet were trying to do and accomplish. Ive played since beta and fully support NPE as it actually seems like you gain something from levels. I was level 20 with all my skills i will ever get unlockable, this put me off leveling and just made new classes to see what they could do.

It became a grind for the sake of getting to level 80.
This is completely different now where you actually progress through the levels and new players actually see what is happening when they level up and what they will achieve.
Alot of my friends left the game due to the fact that they felt there was no progression and nothing was happening through leveling. They didn’t feel any reason to level up, meaning they didn’t feel the want to play as MMOs are mainly focused around leveling and getting to the max level.

Sure the so called “veterans” are getting upset over change, but its for the better. You understand the game now and know where everything is so unlocking traits shouldn’t be hard, using tomes of knowledge shouldn’t be hard and you will even have a spare few level 20 scrolls, let alone a stack of skill points.

You had two years to make characters the old way, now you complain because its different and actually has progression. If it stays how it is for two more years, it will just become part of the game and you will have to get used to it.

NPE is here to stay.

Yeah! Screw everyone who disagrees with me! If they can’t agree with me that the NPE is the best thing since sliced bread, then they’re just to dumb to know the truth! Just kitten and GTFO!

Two weeks later:

Hey, where did everyone go? Everyone who disagreed with me left, that’s like 7/8 of the players! Now I have no one to do events or dungeons with!

Yeah…might wanna rethink your argument.

I also love how you automatically assume that all “veterans” have tons and tons of skill tomes, tomes of knowledge and lvl 20 scrolls, or that they would even want to speed level as fast as possible, instead of playing the game however they want at their own pace. Which is, you know, how the game was prominently and consistently marketed as pre-NPE.
