Being a thief I agree with this 1000000%… The only daggers I can ever use in this game are Komalie’s Sacrificial Blade… Why? Because they actually look like daggers, not 1-handed swords being held upside-down.
Mistforged/lovestruck daggers looked very good, the only problem is of course whoever is doing the scaling on the dev side for some reason has a thing for obnoxiously oversizing them. I might as well use a frying pan instead of a dagger.
Seriously… Daggers should not be as long as your arm.. On my human thief, almost EVERY dagger, from point to end is as long as my arm from shoulder to fingertip.
Pistols are also oversized. Why do they all either look like overweight blunderbusses or one handed rifles? Look at the ascended pistols. I LOVE the design, but on my human, there is NO way my finger would actually reach the trigger because it is too far away. If they scaled them better they would look 100x better.
Bonetti’s Rapier, and Komalie’s Sacrificial Blade are 2 of the best looking/appropriately scaled weapons in the entire game.
Seriously, pass this along to whoever is making these skins: when you’re done sizing the weapons and decide you’ve done a good job please stop for a second, go back and reduce the size by 50% and then you are truly done.

Hey guys,
Steve Blum is still doing the voice of Rytlock in Guild Wars 2, including our trailers. Audio treatments are applied to his voice and it may sound different sometimes, but it’s still him. Just wanted to clarify that
There’s just no way my necromancer could ever walk around with a weapon that has a giant heart on it.
What if it was the still-beating heart of your enemies?
PS. Then, the lovestruck ones were actually decent skins, but yeah, the heart, it had to be there… Right.
Yeah, that’s my issue with them as well. Design wise they have a really functional shape. But the designers kind of ruin it, by making the weapon so themed. It makes it so that the weapon really doesn’t fit with the majority of characters. It stands out like a mesmer at a fashion show. It’s an eye sore, when it could have been just a really good looking weapon. There’s just no way my necromancer could ever walk around with a weapon that has a giant heart on it.
The ratio of fat, blunt and oversized weapons is way out of hand when compared to the slim and elegant weapons. Take sword for instance, the only elegant sword are infinite light and fractal sword, both of which are insanely hard to get. I know somebody will suggest low level weapons but those weapons have other issues like being too generic.
Hey guys! So just to get this off my chest; I am extremely paranoid about uploading these pictures lol I redesigned the UI on my own initiative therefore I don’t know if I’ve violated some Terms of Service etc (since nothing belongs to me). So I shall clarify: whatever elements I combined, edited, deleted and/or modified are all properties of Mr. ANet! I’m just an extremely visual person and I thought by designing my idea you guys could better visualize the concept
Thanks.
—————————————————————————————————————————-
My personal problems with the current UI (I’m no unique snowflake therefore I’m sure another Joe or Jane has these same gripes).
1. Upon looking at my screen I sometimes feel there is WAY too much text!
2. The grudge border limits or “closes” the visual aspect of the game (our monitors already do this)
3. We can barely remove anything from the UI; only minimize things (Of which I am grateful
I’ve uploaded a picture where I did my best to have a clean UI: minimized everything, made the map and chat smaller.
—————————————————————————————————————————-
The 2nd image is what I did, so let’s run through everything uno by uno. Left to right.
1. Removed the grudge brush effect around the edges. “Opens” the game.
2. Changed the party UI; I feel the circular shapes are more organic, more attractive and occupies less space (more stylish too :P)
3.On the upper right hand corner I’ve added a new tray of icons:
- The lock icon locks the tray (the icons cannot be toggled on or off)
- The eye icon lowers the opacity of the entire UI (check 3 image!); However, all your skills etc may still be clicked and they remain functional
- The star icon toggles the personal story information or the living story. Depends on which one the user has activated.
- The check mark toggles your daily or monthly tasks. A red exclamation mark (notification) will remain there until you have completed your dailies, like a reminder.
- The other star will toggle the event information. Should you be in the area of an ongoing event, you get a notification until you leave the area or complete the event.
- The “N” toggles the mini map.
- The “XP” toggles the experience bar at the bottom along with our scaled and current levels.
—————————————————————————————————————————-
Whew!!! (Bare with me <3)
Now the addition to the utility bar is more of a Quality of Life feature but I thought it would be pointless to make another thread explaining my idea. Basically I’ve always wished we had more slots for weapons, gear, consumables or other miscellaneous items on the fly. I live in dungeons and do a lot of speed clears and I always have to have my inventory open and minimized at the corner so I can quickly grab something.
You Arah runners feel my pain lol plus I’ve seen this a lot in videos on YouTube.
The HP circle was modified to make the entire bar a bit more “streamlined” if you will. I view the HP circle as a visual hiccup when I run my gaze across
To fill these slots you open you inventory, right click the item and select “Assign to A” or “B” etc. These slots wouldn’t function like the utilities drop down boxes. Weapons assigned to the A and B slots could only be switched when you’re OOC. For example a guardian quickly switching to staff without opening the inventory for trash runs.
On the right we have slots for anything really! Mainly nom noms and other goodies (functions the exact same way). The slot on the far LEFT has no assignment – its function is to store the offhand weapon when switching!
The slots could even be key bound!
There you have it! Would love criticism, opinions or thoughts. All that juicy stuff. Thank you for reading guys!
PS I tried to use html n textile codes to make the reading a wee bit easier but to no avail. Sorry.
PSS! I realized I forgot the icon for the chat yikes but it would also be toggled on or off. I know we have something similar but it would be nice to completely hide the chat for a bit!

I came back after a long 7 months break and I found how all the UI changes are subpar downgrade in my experience. The user interface experience just got worse in some area especially for the Hero panel itself.
I feel like the current Hero UI panel is hassle to work with. Too much clicking needed especially when you need to swap things in tight timely manner.
Here is the IMGUR album with description explains everything. All done in photoshop to demo what can be improve.
Any other suggestions feel free to write.
Pic 1 – Problem 1: When you first open your Hero panel… BLANK! Should be default to Equipment view and then remember last opened panel when you reopen after the first time!
Pic 2 – Variation 1 UX: Rework basic idea of better UI (User Experiences) Basically here allow you to one click switch to 1 of the 3 optional Equipment / Wardrobe / Dye panels.
Get rid of the click open and close each panel between Equipment / Wardrobe / Dyes… Oh my lord that was a terrible design.
Pic 3 – Variation 2 UX: Tab features at the top easy and fast switching to your needs instead of double time clicking open and close to open one and another!
The design is to reduce the headroom space and allow more room for the contents / selections.
Tooltip said it all.
Pic 4 – Variation 2 UX: Showing the Dye Panel with Sub Tab!
Coming from Designer view, Icon / Image / Photo worth a 1k Word! Remember this, we human recognize things by shape and color quicker than details and words.

I lost faith in them. Don’t get me wrong I still love the game and creativity. Which is why I will still log in on a regular basis but play no more than an hour a day and 1 day every 2 weeks.
Logging in to activate stories but play only every 6 months is not the way to go I guarantee you’ll be playing alone while others are in the fresher content.
Here’s the bottom line.
2000 to 2005.
From 3 to 170 employees have produced GW1
2005 to 2007
6 months later the full campaign Factions
6 more months later Nightfall campaign
10 months later the expansion Eye of the North.
During those 10 months they even had been working on Utopia which they dumped
in favor of Eye of The North.
2007 to 2012
From 170 to 370 to produce GW 2.
August 2012 release date.
3 months later a new map “Southsun Cove” which had nothing to do with the storyline but where your character can now take a vacation…WoW
Labyrinthine Cliffs July 2013 not an official map based on wiki still fun after 2 festivals but getting old.
Dry Top 1/8 of a map July 1st.
Dry Top 1/8 of the same map, at this rate Dry Top will be completed and the same size as Brisband Wildlands by the end of October.
Don’t get me wrong I still love the game but this is not the same Anet as GW 1’s days with 2 very important founders and some staff gone some of which I’m sure didn’t like the direction the company was taking, nothing new here it happens everywhere but Anet is no longer the quality company it used to be. Yeah you might even say I’ve stopped being a fanboy and I’m now simply a dissatisfied player.
The rumor is for an expansion pack for 2015 at the rate things are going it better be a good and big expansion or Anet won’t last another 5 years and that would be sad. Ok time for me to buy an FPS while I wait for July 29th’s 1/8 th of added Dry Top content.
Did I mention it takes 4 months for 1/8 th of a map? Lucky for us they have more than 1 team working on each LS. Could have been worse. No applause please.

Why should we not log in though :S we enjoy the game, it’s the reason we’re on the forums now posting our opinion. What you’re offering isn’t a solution but a pseudo feeling of receiving what we’re asking for
Ok log in, but don’t play LS
This is basically how it works in games that do expansions. No new content for months on end.
It’s what you’re asking for, so don’t play LS for 1 year. There’s your expansion.
Not even close to enough content for an expansion after 2 years, much less 1.
Wanna stop complaining it’s a dead horse, there won’t be a KittyKittenKittele change until there’s players who enjoy and play regardless of game quality until there’s at least 50.000 player drop with increase they wont give a KittyKittenedKittalas about our KitKatCat opinion in the forums.
Understand,Accept and leave it be.
The visuals, vistas etc in this place is so effin amaizing i just can’t stand!
I love it <3 !
You can say anything about Guild Wars 2, but even haters have to admit that visuals in this game are one of the best and ArenaNet has, in my opinion, the best artists in the industry. This patch only proves that, period!
… and forgive us for our past whining, as we also have forgiven you for past mistakes.
+ Excellent story, thank you!
+ Well delivered in an interesting environment
+ Good voice acting, interesting characters
+ Coin hunt is fun, like a one huge jumping puzzle.
+ I got to feel important (like a BOSS!)
+ Cinematic +1
+ How long were you guys planning on these events anyways … ?
- No dungeon(s) yet. Waiting to see one hopefully.
Verdict: IWANTMOARNOW. Take my money, all of it. Just give me my next dose of this >_<

So pretty much a female character who pretty much had has no story development is killed for as a plot device in this LS. She is involved in only one mission, and then is sent to her death off screen in the next mission. Pretty much this character was created to die for the A-team to feel emotion, but for me I feel nothing because she has as much development as the thousands of npcs I kill everyday. This is unlike the mentor you get in your PS who you actually develop a relationship with, and then dies in a heroic way. Personally I do find this type of story extremely lazy and somewhat offensive.
How many times have you been on a zerg fight or just a regular fight and cannot find the kitten cursor because of all the fancy animations and bling-bling animations and brightly things going on on the screen?
You move and move the mouse just to see if you can locate it on the screen but you fail to locate it?
Anyone hate this?
Side note:
Also add an option where we can disable all the skill description when you put the mouse on top of the skills. It is annoying that they pop up like spam on a web browser.
the scroll of knowlege is what bugs me to put this even in is like a slap in the face
I would rather get a scroll of knowledge than 100 luck, which is another item you can get from a chest.
the scroll of knowlege is what bugs me to put this even in is like a slap in the face
Please allow us to dye our weapons. This was an amazing feature in Guild Wars1 and it allowed us to customize ourselves even further without changing armor or weapons. Now when I say dye our weapons I don’t mean ALL weapons. (Legendary) There were a few in Guild Wars1 that you couldn’t dye (green weapons) and that was fine. Just add a little feature such as this, and it would add so much customization to Guild Wars 2 and make it that much better.
STOP over-propagandizing “scarlet’s war”….please honestly. did anybody feel this “devastating war”?…..it went unnoticed to me….completely. please stop spreading this all over the place as if it was a big deal, i mean really, all your fans think season 1 was jsut average content and here you are “ohhhhhh looook let me make 3-5 posts about this”. ok season 1 was was a start to something better (WE HOPE)….but its nothing to brag about or announce repetitively. you did a whatever job, so move on and do better
.
Simple truth is, for me anyways; that I just don’t believe a word Anet says anymore. Not a single thing until it actually happens. Also, best mmo in existence; that’s an opinion, one I do not share. It’s good yes (with a metric kittenton of potential) but best? No. But that’s just my opinion.
(edited by Paddy.3985)
Anet goes back on their words a countless times not to mention the vast amount of ninja nerfs they never mention in patch notes…
I don’t believe anything until its official released and I see it.There was a time where anet said there was no chance of ascended gear lol.
They keep saying they are working on xpac like content…. ok we will see.. but right now, I don’t believe it and I have absolutely no reason to believe it. Anet has gone back on their words on multiple things, no reason for me to put my trust in their words againthey say this stuff now but thats because that is what the entire community WANTS TO HEAR. You honestly think anet will come out and publicly say “nah we aren’t really focusing on xpac like content, our primary focus will remain LS + gemstore”
Ok, think about something for a second, Gw2 has been out for just over 1 YEAR! and they have already released tons of content for that first year, it took wow over 2 years for their first expansion, i dont know why everyone in this game is so dam impatient.
Also, they currently hold the best MMO in existence, if you honestly dont think that they are going to add huge updates to it then you are wrong. Currently from the gem store they rake in more money than monthly subs could ever pull in. They have 350 employees. There will be something Huge, and in my oppinion it will be very soon. But i am prepared to wait until next year for it because they shouldnt be required to release anything huge for another year.
buddy its about to be 2 years since its release once August arrives… I promise you there won’t be xpac like content by August lol.
gw1 released in april 05 i think? they released an xpac (factions) in april 06… and factions was an overwhelming succesful xpac… In the near 2 years gw2 has been out, there has hardly been anything close to prophecis + factions given the timeframe gw2 has had to work with so far…. 350 employees….. their entire focus has been LS + gemstore item and now, china….
2 years and still nothing new for PvP, its been thrown aside completely. WvW is dull as its ever been. EoTM was only added because of the outcry for terrible waiting times to even get into wvw. Dungs are STILL the same. fractals got 1 revamp lol, no new profession/race/skills/….no expanded weapon sets for classes…. ya I’m really going to believe now is the time for big xpac like content… keep dreaming pal, won’t happen this year.

Source for this info? because according to anet they are ridding the prosperity wave right now with an incredible player base after only being out for one year.
“If you look at any game ever made, a year after release, sales are always dropping – that’s just very normal,” responded Colin Johanson. "
The game has been out 2 years August, not one year. I don’t know what game you’re playing, but most of the game is dead. What you’re experiencing is the result of the megaserver changes resulting in de-facto server merges without having to actual physically merge them.
Also your post is quoting anet almost a year ago. So this info is so way outdated it’s not even funny. Your post also proves my point they haven’t added much of any new content. Features don’t qualify as playable content. What good are features without stuff to do??
“… but we absolutely are going to do sweeping new features that you would traditionally only get in expansions – large regions, content and progression additions to your characters in the form of growth and professions and races. Those are all things that you will see in the lifespan of Guild Wars 2.”
This stuff aint coming out any time soon guaranteed. If it does pigs will fly out of my butt. Large Regions is coming out more than likely a year out form now which is going to be the 3 year mark.
You both are going to be very surprised at how a real career works once you stop working at McDonalds or your local movie theater.
True. This is how a real career works.
You’re all psyched to get a great job that you trained and studied for and are rearing to go create something awesome.
The corporation you work for has other ideas though. You thought your job was to create a product for your customers. Wrong. Your job is to make profits for the corporation.
So you try to do your work creating the game (for example) and creating a great expierence for the customer. However the executives of the corporation never hire enough people to do the job right. So you’re stuck bouncing between projects, never getting to concentrate on one properly so that you can create the best product for your customers.
Your customers become unhappy. They complain. Do the execs hear the complaints? No. You have to deal with it. So now you’re a customer service rep too because the company is too cheap, er… intersted in profits, to actually hire enough (or any) customer service reps.
You bring this up to your execs. They just stare blankly at you with $$ in their eyes. What do they care. Gone are the days of being responsive to the customers. For a corporation, it doesn’t matter. There are always more customers around the corner – or across the ocean (billions of them as a matter of fact).
So there you have it. The answer to why we don’t have more maps.
Expect more BL chests with overpriced bkittene skins for S2 so stack those keys through the roof cuz this game has nothing going for it so far. I doubt S2 will be any better
Man I dunno who you wrote all that for.
Maybe if ANet advertised the wiki as much as the gem store, we wouldn’t have this problem. Hah! :P
Let me tell you the story of Fading Frost, a sylvari necromancer, created at release, that somehow managed to get to lvl 80, using only staff and trident. She had no idea about combo fields, might stacking, skipping nor did she know what vigor or fury were. At level 80, she began aquiring her exotic armor, an activity better described as dying in Twilight Arbor.
My life would have been much easier if there had been some in game tutorial explaining those things. I was lucky that I met people willing to teach me, but not everyone has that.
Guild Wars 2 tries so hard to differentiate from other games, yet assumes that everyone has played them and should learn on their own or rely on random access to player knowledge.
I could have sworn I posted this before. Something must have gone wrong.
OP – what I believe is that you can’t really fix bad players because they won’t put in the time and effort to get good.
How do you fix the " it’s just a game man, doesn’t matter if I’m good or not, I play it for the lulz" mentality?
There’s actually a teaching philosophy I’ve heard about a few times. I think it is Buddhist in origin. Anyway, it goes something like this: A good teacher can teach without the student knowing that he is learning.
There is an expectation in the game of laziness, and this expectation is vindicated regularly. But, if the game had a different expectation… you see where I am going with this.
Anyway, this actually leads into another suggestion I had awhile ago regarding the zerker meta, in which I suggested that the game be harder in specific ways to encourage more build diversity. But, the more I thought about this suggestion, the more I realized that there is a really, really big obstacle to just making the game harder. That obstacle being that it is quite hard to get good at the game. Once you know everything it is pretty easy, but knowing everything is a challenge that requires in-depth research and repetition of the content. The least one can do is amend the whole “extraneous research” aspect, and make the learning curve more about practice and learning enemies.
Heck, I’m not even “good” at the game. I just let perseverance and problem solving skills carry me through most stuff. I’m the most clumsy and haphazard player I know, but I’m darn near unstoppable if you give me time to think.
I don’t think I can “fix everyone” in a certain extent, but I’ve certainly encountered a large enough group of players who’s biggest fault is that they don’t know whats going on.
