“Dated engine”? I almost spit my coffee now, there will always be constraints when engineering an engine, and market is among those.
I prefer male characters.
As a female player, I feel empowered by being able to play a strong, capable fighter. Running around with my breasts flouncing around and my skin exposed does the exact opposite—makes me feel like I’m just a tool for some 14-year-old nerd’s pleasure fantasy.
It’s easier to make a male character look strong and capable— it’s not a constant struggle to find something that doesn’t flash my breasts or show the shape of my bum. So, for human-like characters at least, I tend to make males. It’s just a lot of frustration off my shoulders. That said, I did manage to make a female human guardian who looks quite tough. I used the biggest female body, and found armor that adds a lot of bulk to her frame without drawing attention to her breasts or her bum.
you know, armor that shows the shape of the character’s kitten is quite scarce, I’ve been looking for ever a piece of armor to show off my mesmer’s kitten , so far only Heavy (1 option) and medium (this has “more” options)
also, making tough looking females is quite easy, the only ones that actually look frail are the human females, but you can always use a full body armor, bikini armor are just 3 or 4.
I say, people just likes to complain and honestly, its getting old pretty quick
Last time we saw a new content at March 4! Two month ago!
its not really about them just adding something new, its about them adding something substantive. Most living story content has very little depth, and you are finished in like 15 minutes.
People are looking for the type of content you see in expansions like
new overarching storylines (that preferably arent bad)
new areas to explore(think new interacting DEs, and perhaps a questlike mechanic better than hearts)
new abilities/skills
new proffesions
content for high levels to push/use their refined charachters (i think a mission type system like GW1 might be a really good addition)
new dungeons.
basically expand and develop the game.

There’s only one thing you can be sure that ANet will deliver on: Gem Store updates.
I think a lot of people are just thrown by how inconsistent gw2 has been with things. We go from ideas like no vertical progression to the introduction of ascended. From periodic updates to bi weekly, then back to periodic. From no information to weekly previews then back to no information. And that’s just a few quick examples. For anyone who does not know to check multiple sources (forums, twitter, youtube ect.) you really have no way of knowing half of whats going on.
Well kitten me, I may not be the brightest bulb of the bunch but even I can see that you can’t consider LS as content…
In all fairness, by this very logic, a game you missed out on and cannot obtain again isn’t a game. A book that has fallen out of print before you could obtain a copy is not a book. A TV show that no channel can be bothered to rerun is not a TV show (this would absolutely kill soap operas).
It’s like saying the Eiffel Tower doesn’t exist if you haven’t seen it with your own eyes as opposed to though other media.
Hyperbole at its finest.
Not really. You could get hit by a bus or struck by the severed engine of an aircraft or something before you get to see it.
Comparing ANet’s Living Story to the actual living story of real life is simply ridiculous and illogical. “Oh, I never met Abraham Lincoln before he died so therefore he’s not a real person!”.
Nevertheless, temporary content is not real content; it’s a cheap, shallow alternative, and it happens to only be active for two weeks. Yes, I can play it while it’s active… And then it’s gone. Video game content is by its very definition stuff that you can experience in said game.
If my favorite series stops airing, I can always watch it online. If a book I want to read isn’t in print anymore, there are always libraries. However, even if I wanted to relive my Scarlet experience for old times sake (and I don’t), there’s absolutely no way for me to go about doing so.
We need permanent updates with actual substance that can add some depth and variety to this game that has grown stagnant and dull.

They are getting ready to release GW2 in probably the largest market in the world. I am sure big stuff will be coming in time. Learn to be patient and life will be so much more enjoyable.
The game is almost 2 years old. Waiting 2 years for some new, fresh and unique PERMANENT content could be dubbed “patience”, don’t you think?
This article was published a year ago in July
Did you even read it? That’s the point.
It’s a classic example of ANet using their carrot-on-a-stick tactic – making grand statements about what the future holds for Guild Wars 2 and then inevitably having it all fall through.
We need less blogs posts like the one above because they’re essentially false advertising.
Content is content even if it is no longer available. And there are quite a bit of permanent stuff added as well. Such as a couple of JPs, Fractals, more Fractals, Southsun Cove, Guild Missions. Edge of the Mists.
GW1 had very few content updates. Most of them were actually stand-alone games, rather than just simple updates, so not really a fair comparison, but if you really want to compare I would say that we have gotten about as much stuff as Factions and Nightfall added.
That’s the nice thing about opinions. They can’t be contradicted because they’re subjective. I would say that Factions added more to GW than has been added to GW2 since launch. I would also say that http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_Beyond added more content to GW than has been added to GW2 since launch — including the temporary content from the LS. You will — doubtless — disagree.
However, it might be wise to consider that there is another factor besides rising costs in the current trend of game developers offering less value for money. That factor is lowered expectations on the part of consumers.
What is content for you? Please don’t put LS in the same basket as the word massive content. It’s funny you mention massive content because I am still runing the same dungeons I have been doing the past 2 years, there are no new zones to discover and level a character trough, fractals hasn’t changed much, am I not playing the same game?
Massive content is not a wardrobe update and bug fixes, massive content must be as massive as the game itself, the way they used to do it back in the original GW. Guess I will be going back under that rock of mine you mentionned.
Content is content even if it is no longer available. And there are quite a bit of permanent stuff added as well.

Yeah content is content…
I have been playing my tengu dervish in cantha for the past 6 months, even though you can’t play it doesn’t mean it isn’t content, because apparently content is content even if you can’t access or play it… So stop complaining, there is plenty of content, it just isn’t in the game or playable!
Reading the phrase “have some patience” is arguably the funniest thing you can read on this forum, I think 2 years is patience enough to let people complain on this without getting told to “have patience”. Now instead of saying “have some patience” you could do something more productive like I don’t know find a cure for cancer or go build schools in Africa perhaps.
Sarcasm apart, it’s not the fact that people can’t wait that brings these kind of threads on the forum, it’s the fact that we have absolutely no indications from Anet 2 years later that anything is coming and that silence and secretive approach is making people angry. I can put 100$ on the table and say that if anet would just say anything like we are working on an expansion or anything as minimal as it can be announcing something other that a kittenty LS would make people stop crying about it.
Me too.
They could at least chuck in a Bazaar of the Four Winds for us to play with while we’re waiting
I know its cool these days to bash the player base, but op is kind of right.. the only reason I check these forums every day is in the hopes of some news.

So im the only one that would like a, “state of the game” update? I find it humourous that some think im asking for this monumental thing, lol
Technical issues aside, I’d be all for adding collision detection (except in cities.)
It would certainly change all zerg content as well as dungeons.
Unfortunately I’m pretty sure the computational requirements make this impossible.
So, a dev said somewhere (i cant find it) or on a ready up, that the mystic forge woulkd be changed, improved to give better results for what you threw in.
I waited for the patch notes, and sure enough:
“Some Mystic Forge recipes have been updated to provide a wider range of results”
4x level 80 exotic hammers = 1 level 76 exotic hammer.
ehngfjngp;oewjspgojw[oj
I haven’t played in a couple of weeks because, well the only thing left for me was doing Teq and Wurms.
I laugh so, so hard at how simplistic a resolution to the whole mega server issue.
Districts. Remember those Anet? You had those in another game that didn’t have issues.
Whats that? EU players playing with NA players!!! Wow!!! That technology must be new and groundbreaking!!!
GW1 did instanced districts of zones and it worked, it worked very well.
Why is Anet so reluctant to look at the successes of the past and implement them into the here and now?
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
But I don’t see the future as bright. I just see it as stagnant.
No sry that was about required gear and exotic is not even required you can do every thing in greens some ppl can do every thing in blues. That was also aimed at games like WoW where you get a new gear set that you NEED to get to the next level of progression and story in a game (its ever 6 months or so for that game i think).
Take a look at any serious WvW community or Fractal group and come back and tell me that Exotics or better aren’t mandatory.
I don’t understand the logical gymnastics that you used to reach this conclusion, but whatever.
features that dont exists a year and half:
well i guess you two are blind to see the changes in these game from a year and a half.
I will admit that the wardrobe update was a nice addition, but aside from that, what did we really get that adds value to the game?
sPvP reward track? That should have been in the game since release.
Account bound World XP? I’m glad that it’s finally here and it only took a year and a half of complaining to get it.
All of the other changes tie to the game’s economy to reduce your income and to make the Gem Store more appealing.
how about fractals, new fractal dungeons, exciting living story, edge of the mist, balance updates. improved reward system.ascended armors, ascended weapons, new world bosses, improved world bosses, world boss schedules, megaservers. o god i cant name it all.
Balance updates? That’s their job.
Ascended items? They promised that Exotics were the be-all-end-all, that GW2 would never have a gear treadmill, and that they don’t make grindy games. Don’t get me started.
New world bosses? The last thing this game needs is more world events that you zerg down for two to three green items.
Living Story? Limited content is exactly that: Limited.
Edge of the Mists? It’s a PvE karma train map where you happen to have the ability to kill other players. The map itself is beautiful, but the game-play is seriously lacking.
Megaservers? This is probably the most hated update in the history of Guild Wars 2.
My main problem with GW2 is the lack of content.
It’s been a year and a half since release and we’re essentially playing the exact same game.
Pretty much this right here ^^

Players who are satisfied rarely post about how satisfied they are. Forums generally represent a vocal minority.
Actually…. that’s a myth.
The people who post on the forums are the most passionate about the game. Good companies understand how customer feedback works and pay attention. Bad companies believe the myth and wonder why their customer base is shrinking.
If you look back to the threads that were created within the first 6 months after launch, most were pretty civil. As time went on, Anet responses became fewer and fewer. Countless bugs and exploits that have existed since the betas are still not fixed. New systems were introduced that no one asked for nor wanted, and each were filled with several bugs that still haven’t been fixed. Suggestions that would actually help improve the game went entirely ignored, or worse, the exact opposite was done. The CDI’s were the same way.
Look back at the massive thread concerning ascended gear. People overwhelmingly HATED the idea. What did they do? They added more Ascended gear, with an even bigger grind than the jewelry.
Look at the WvW CDI’s. the first one listed Population imbalance as the biggest problem in WvW, with the commander tags being the second biggest issue. What did they do? They added incentive to superstack further, and haven’t done anything with the commander tags in the FOUR months since the CDI.
In the week leading up to this patch, Anet was told what problems would present themselves, were offered solutions on how to avoid it, and ignored that. Now we’re seeing exactly what people were concerned with happening, and as usual, Anet is nowhere to be found to deal with the mess they made. A mess they could have easily avoided, but chose not to.
This is the result of those sort of things. To lay this on the community is to completely ignore what has actually been happening over the past year and a half. This is large scale customer dissatisfaction, with ample reason for it. This one is on Anet, and Anet alone. If they hadn’t completely mismanaged what was the most promising MMO on the market, none of this would be happening. Instead, they caved, tried to turn it into yet another WoW-clone, and neglected their paying customers to do so. If people are angry with Anet, it’s because Anet actually deserves it. No other company on the planet would expect to behave this way and still be in business, let alone continue to neglect and look down upon their customer base.
Truth be told, this community is owed an apology from Anet, at the very least.
(edited by Phantom.8130)
Poor implementation is poor implementation. It’s worse when people warned them long before the update of many of the issues that we see now. Anet does not listen. That makes people even more upset.
So, I’ve considered posting this for a couple days now. I tend to lurk rather than posting. I realize this will likely fall on deaf ears, but after this weekend, I feel like it really needs to be said.
The attitude on the forums, and the response from the community over the past week (and even before that) is appalling. Every new thread is created to somehow belittle or bash the Anet dev team, or to negatively criticize every aspect of the game (whether part of the new update or not). And it isn’t just in General – it’s happening in PvP, in WvW, in the Profession forums, all of them. Is this criticism valid? Certainly – there are threads created for the exact purpose of collecting that information (and no, we don’t need to keep making 9 different threads on the same topic). But the tone of that criticism has reached an all-time low, and it’s turned the forum into a toxic mess. We’re no longer in the territory of constructive, positive discussion that a forum like this is here to encourage.
The general consensus of the community appears to be one where we expect the dev team to be chained to their desks 24/7, fixing every mistake and catering to every whim of any player who feels like our gameplay has somehow been diminished. I mean, just look around – you’ll find it in almost every new thread that’s been created this week. How does this kind of feedback – the whining, the complaining, the bashing, the lack of patience, the anger – actually help the game or promote any kind of meaningful discussion? Everyone seems to be shocked at the lack of responses from the dev team about issues – is it really any wonder why? If I were them, I wouldn’t respond to anything either, considering the community won’t be happy with whatever they have to say (or even if its what they want to hear).
Have there been problems this week? Certainly. Could things have been rolled out differently? Probably. But in no way does that excuse how this community has reacted. We dare say the Anet team can’t have a bloody holiday weekend to themselves? Of course they can! Who are you to say they don’t deserve one? (And there are threads where this exact statement is happening).
Lets use the Megaserver as an example. For those complaining about the megaservers, have you even considered that releasing this update this week, in this way, is intended? The Megaserver system is a BIG deal. And the devs have said repeatedly that its an ongoing system. I mean, the update isn’t even a week old! How do you expect the dev team to make any meaningful changes to the system to improve things, when they don’t even have enough data yet to determine what those changes should be? It’s called patience, and this community could use a huge dose of it.
Altogether, I know this thread isn’t going to deter the community’s reaction to the new content. I know it’s not going to correct anything. But I’m hoping that, if you support the dev team, their hard work, and their efforts to give us something great to play, you’ll post in here and let them know.
I love the new updates, and I know that I for one can’t wait to see what’s coming for us next
complaints are caused by dissatisfaction, a lot of people are dissatisfied. These systems touched major parts of the game, Its not really surprising.
As for expecting a high level tone, thats a skill that most people do not have. When many people get angry or dissatisfied, they dont become more tactful/understanding.
Also, anet needs to hear some of this negative feedback, because apparently they didnt realize a lot of these solutions would cause a lot of these problems. Either that or they prefer a wait and see approach in either case, they need to see these pages of toxic mess to try to solve the problems
Is the current naming convention on transmuted items intended functionality or a bug? It just doesn’t seem to make sense to me the way it is now, post patch.
So I bought a Sclerite GS skin and applied it to a Berserker’s Pearl Broadsword, though I never used a Pearl broadsword because it’s ugly, I likely just brought the cheapest GS with the stats I wanted. It looks like a Sclerite GS, feels like a Sclerite GS, and I certainly payed enough for it, should the name not be something like “Berserker’s Sclerite Broadsword of Bloodlust” rather than “Berserker’s Pearl Broadsword of Bloodlust”? The “pearl” has nothing to do with the sword anymore since it’s only a skin itself.
Likewise, I have a transmuted staff that should be “Emberspire”, not “Knight’s Pearl Quaterstaff of Torment”. Again, “pearl” is only the original skin.
All my other transmuted items also suffer the same issue, armor name shows as draconic rather than primeval, Severed Dagger now shows as “Carrion Tribal Dagger of Malice”.
These names have nothing to do with the current items. “Pearl”, “Draconic”, “Tribal”, etc, these are just skin names and make no sense.
