I’m hoping there’d be at least 5 specialization per class.
Look @ the current Trait lines for elem for example:Pyromancer, Aeromancer, Hydromancer, Geomancer and Arcanist.
Lol, it’s just gonna be a sidegrade not an upgrade. The Druid-ranger
probably came from the nature magic trait line. Makes sense.
Maybe 5 eventually, but that kind of sounds like a stretch as of right now.

ok guys. this is forum page is about asking to stop legendaries from being overbearing. not about the rarity or account bound, not about drop rate. read the original post.
Also I found the weapon I was looking for, the demon fang daggers, but upon looking at the list of daggers, the deldrimor daggers were pretty tight too.

I expect that the “silly Legendaries” like Moot and Quip will get “serious” alternatives in HoT, while the “serious Legendaries” like Bolt or Frostfang will get “silly” alternatives.
I hope not. that halloween scimitar angered me, like more silly weapons i’m ok with, but not a silly weapon for each weapon type.

there really isn’t a dead class in pvp. I don’t see a lot of mesmers, but tons of eles, warriors, engis, thieves, and rangers. But yeah, this will definitely freshen up pvp

You know what I think would make good legendaries in gw2, from guild wars 1. the first things that come to mind are the magmas shield, obsidian edge(of course this would get some kind of aura), emerald- either blade or edge- one of them changed color in lighting, the obsidian skin earth staff(it had a floating piece of obsidian at the end of it), diamond aegis(this would definitely get some kind of aura too). I have more, but I can’t find them in my characters inventory, not that i ever had the emerald one, but there were others.

think of it this way, in gw1 you could have another profession as your secondary; however a lot of the time that wasn’t necessary. you still had that secondary equipped, but it was just kind of there, no need to use it. and in any town you could go back and change what skills you had, or secondary. Hell, one of the big things was necros using an assassin skill to recharge their skill bar, something exclusive to assassins, but they could still go back to curses soul reaping blood magic death magic.
think of it like this rangers have beast mastery, druids have druidism. sure we had rangers first, but it’s still a different direction.

The system sounds quite alike to GW1, where you got to pick a second class, but you could opt between your full class only or split it with any of the other classes. Yes of course GW1 was a balance nightmare, but it’s at one end of the spectrum (mix any class with any other along with entire selection of skills on your bar) vs GW2 specialization which will start with your plain class OR the single specialization, with your weapon determining 5 skills and only specific skills they provide as available on the other side. This is the limited end of the spectrum, they do control every skill combination you can have.
I’m surprised that in over 2 years since launch, people feel there isn’t enough time to have come up with 2 specializations for each class. It took this long for 1, so would another 2 years be acceptable to get a 2nd specialization? As it is, it felt like the expansion was a year overdue. Anet has moved at glacier like speed, and there has been tons of complaint about wanting an expansion for a long time, so I don’t see any worry that by voicing a view on the subject, they would panic and release things they couldn’t have ready…
Maybe it’s just their crummy wording “be able to swap between specializations anytime out of combat” – the base class is NOT a specialization, so how exactly does one swap between specializations when only 1 specialization exists. I’ll swap from Druid to Druid, yay!
you’ll swap from ranger to druid and back to ranger. I don’t understand where you’re getting hung up on this.
I’m not sure how much simpler I could have explained it.
Ranger is NOT a specialization, it is a BASE class.
Druid is a specialization.
Their developer saying you can switch from one specialization to another, when there is only one, is what I have issue with.
it’s not a specialization, it doesn’t need to be. and there will be other specializations eventually.

I will have to agree with the OP , if specializations means a person only has a choice to specialize in one added branch, then there is no specialization, it’s just more linear character progression…
For specialization to make any sense in the way the word implies, a player should have a choice for (in my opinion) at least 3 mutually excluding branches that add to the profession in a profound (and perhaps even fundamental) way. This will also ensure (in part) that players can actually become distinct from one another…
Because while a druid is really cool, what is in it for the rangers that prefer to be a true archer (aka, without that annoying pet), then again, what about those that think 1 pet isn’t nearly enough. Or what about those that think the ranger is just fine the way it is, but they would just like to have a bit more choice as to how to customize and theme their ranger (f/e more fire, or more ice, more poison or more plants. (and obviously this goes for all other professions as well.)
I repost:
noun
1.
the act of specializing, or pursuing a particular line of study or work:
Medical students with high student loans often feel driven into specialization.
2.
Biology. the adaptation of an organism or organ to a special function or environment:
Basic biology suggests the selective pressures leading to convergent evolutionary specialization among desert-dwelling species.
3.
the act of being restricted to some specific, or the act of becoming specialized.
also let’s not forget, we’ll be getting more, just not immediatly. Druid is not a linear movement of rangers, it’s lateral, it’s not better than rangers, it’s not worse, it just covers a different play style. an archer without pet could become a thing; however I kind of doubt that.

I kind of agree with the general vibe of this page. I do love the moot, and when it got the footsteps I was even more in love with it. However, I hate the quip and dreamer, just confetti and colors, it’s kind of dumb, and while I think the greatswords are neat, they have their pitfalls too. I think my bottom line is, I’m ok with extravagent, but still not overdoing it. I think predator, juggernaut, incinerator, kudzu, bolt, those are the right amount of effect.
Also, I would have preferred legendaries be account bound, as they really don’t have meaning of being rare anymore. Honestly I think the staff Delusion is far more uncommon than bifrost.
Whats your opinion on The Moot since they gave it confetti and colours last patch, out of curiosity?
I’m not really a fan of how they made the moot more flashy, I feel it was at the right balance before.
one thing I’ve noticed from catching up with this thread, a new race would be cool and all, but it would be fluff. I still think it would be easier than professions because balance isn’t an issue, just armor model.
But again, just fluff, would be cool, but not by any means important.
And another thing is, gw1 could very much be a single player game, guild wars 2, that really isn’t an option at all for a lot of the content.
rest of the stuff, eh I disagree with op.

Why no SAB collection?
Collections should not involve skins/items that are not able to be collected through effort. There is currently no way to get these outside the trade post.
Are you saying sab weapons aren’t effort? also the trading post only has the blue weapons.
You can expend all the effort you want; you’ll never earn another SAB skin except by buying it off the TP. ;D
What I am saying is, until SAB returns and the skins can be gained through play again, they should not make a collection based on it. They are effectively unobtainable now. Hopefully the future will be kinder
OH, i just assumed you meant they add it when sab is back. i shouldn’t assume things.

You mean you wouldn’t consider that a choice worth making, not that it isn’t a choice, you’re contradicting yourself. I’d imagine a great many people would give up the use of their arms and legs for the ability to fly.
Personal views does not discount something as a choice, it only disregards it as a choice you would make.
A choice not worth making to me is no choice at all. I think we’ve already established that. It’s not contradicting myself, it’s using the language to convey what i have in mind.
Personal views do discount this choice for me. Yes? I do have that right do I not? And since here are the official forums, the place where I have the opportunity to express my opinion, I do. We’re not in a university or scholarly debate discussing the subject “objectively” against a fixed set of criteria. We’re just stating our views. I don’t get why all this nervousness that’s floating around
psizone is completely right.
Also, to me, the people saying 1 specialization isn’t enough is just whining, and lame whining at that. It very much is a choice whether you can understand that or not. The druid will offer a playstyle that ranger does not already cover. Not a necessity, just a nice touchWell in the same light, the people saying 1 specilization is more than enough are just easily content and naive individuals without imagination, works both ways I guess… If choice in an of it self is the goal here, please by all means petition anet to remove weapon switching competely, then you’ll get to make the choice what weapon you’ll equip for your next fight, so as another poster said “you are nealry every moment to moment choosing” between your weapons. Wow, choice. Make engineer kits, “unique” only one can be on your utilities. More choice. Give elementalists 120 seconds on their stances. That way every 2 minutes they can make a choice. Choices, choices everywere.
Seriously though, let the people who don’t like something to not like it. And be glad that you do. You’ve already won. What are you afraid of? that anet will listen and add another specialization and omg the sky will fall?
Have a nice one guys
If the choice isn’t worth making to you, you can’t say you understand what the basic concept of specialization is. It is very much a choice worth making.

“We warned the art team what the community would think when they saw the trailer, but they chose to make things the way they did.”

Right, and notice how the only word used in the interview is “polearm”, not spear. There are other things that are polearms, spears are polearms, staves are polearms, hammers are polearms, greataxes are polearms, etc. In game though, the thing we use underwater is specifically called a spear and is never (ingame) referred to as a polearm. It’s unclear language to call the thing specifically named “spear” by the the word “polearm”.
Also take note of the fact that this was an off the cuffs interview at an after party, and notice that the interview didn’t give us a full transcript, just some quotes given context only by the writer.
We’ve gotten misinformation from “interviews” of this nature in the past, and while I am personally putting my bets on land-spear not happening, it has yet to be written in stone that they will not.
coincidentally, land spears are already in the database. They’re identified as polearm.
Oh wait, warriors with daggers, just like dwarven boxing in eotn.
Oh, Zelanard, you’re talking about the staff, right?
(edited by A Massive Headache.1879)
My only issue for daggers is they seem so small for a warrior or whatever specialization it will have.
EDIT: Unless, they use it to also punch things, while holding a dagger I guess.

not to mention, a new layer of movement, and meaningful at that.
It’s probably just an NPC unique weapon at most; like nightmare court using whips, Mai Trin using a rapier, or Horric using a cannon.
I don’t think they would re-purpose staves for melee use when they have a slew of spear skins that could easily be re-purposed for land and make more sense for this type of combat instead.
Have a look through your wardrobe in game at the staves in the game. Some of them look like they might be decent at being used as a melee weapon, but some would be ridiculous. Look through the spear skins in the game; nearly all of them would fit these animations perfectly; except for the legendary spear oddly enough… no place to really grip that thing…
Hey whats some examples on ingame whips other than ele?
The nightmare court.
For warriors i would love..
1. a pistol
2. a poisoned spearor go creative and exotic a bit and give the warrior something unique.
3. a boomerang,
aimed at one person but also has an option to do a group opponents circle strike before coming back to the warriors hand.4. a poison dart pipe lot of native warriors used that has some range and poison stacking strong, think about curare paralysing the opponent etc.
5. a Sai that can be thrown like sword, can block melee and can strike short range.
no new weapon types for this expansion, this has been confirmed.
yeah, there is absolutely no need for vertical progression at all in this game.
as a charr player i barely can contain my joy… (obvios sarcasm is obvios)
that’s not even a joke is it? that’s actually how it looks. god kitten .
It’s hilarious as all hell though.
don’t forget about primordus weapons, they did corrupted weapons after all. but I do agree there should be an achievement for of the mists weapons, even if they are cheaper than foefire.

I don’t think they need their own story at all, just a starting area would make sense.
My girlfriend’s hoping for shortbows, but I have my doubts about that. It’d be similar enough to the longbow that a lot of people would probably find it uninteresting. Personally, I’m hoping for pistols. I’d love for my warrior to be a more well-rounded soldier when it comes to firearms.
What I hope not to see is something like staff or scepter. The ranger expanding further into magical territory doesn’t bother me, because they already have some spell-like abilities anyway. Plus, you know… druids. But with the introduction of the Revenant, we’ll have two magical soldiers to choose from, so I’m hoping whatever new weapon options the warrior ends up with will still be in keeping with the more down-to-earth Fighter theme.
Commando, anyone? :-D I mean, we’re going to be running around in a jungle…
I agree, we do have enough magic heavies, and unless staff is used like a normal non-magic martial arts staff, I don’t want it. However, of the remaining weapons, anything could make sense.
Also I don’t think I’ve actually mentioned this in forums yet. Warrior specialization: Mossman, it has everything warriors are lacking: blink, teleport, summon wolves, but not transformation, that mossman was specifically a norn I guess.
As for engi, and on a serious note, I get the feeling that the hammer engi won’t so much specialize in technology. That or you’re right.

I have another question, how often does your profession get mentioned at all, including references to it in dialogue, throughout the personal story? if it’s none, the only issue is that the first revenant didn’t appear until after zhaitan is dead… no wait, that’s special pleading I guess. I’m not against special pleading, I don’t think. OR they could have the next story could involve a profession warm up, such as revenants actually leaving the mist after they killed zhaitan in a parallel world.
the game isn’t unbalanced to the point it’s too bad; however, pvp tankier options usually thrive, whether it’s the ability to perpetually keep health up or enough cc to keep them off point. Pve, attack damage greatly outranked condi, positioning is usually more important than cc, and support really isn’t needed outside of might stacking and stab from time to time.
I’m definitely more interested in what the specializations will address for each class. Necros are so weak in PVE, that I’m sure the greatsword will bring PVE viability. Druids having staff is what, perhaps AOE? I’m more interested in what weaknesses they may address.
Necros? Weak in pve? what the game are you playing? the only thing necros are lacking is true melee cleave, dagger is nice. and it’s somewhat lacking on the immobilizes and cripple.

What they did in gw1 for characters of different campaigns was say “the events that took place happened before you came here.” or was it after, I don’t know, but that would be a convinient way to to this
I suppose you’re right Sagat, those are heavily relied upon traits, and they could use some mixing up. I guess I can get behind a single attunement specialization.
My problem with focusing on one attunement is, how would this playstyle be different? Zephyrite wouldn’t be a bad idea because then the class could focus more on mobility and positioning. I guess one element could instead focus on bursting, but a zerker ele is already very squishy, especially in pve alone.
@ HoTHit
simply said, you are wrong with Zephyr.
if the Specializations of the Elementalist should be consistant and be based on what kind of specializations were already found in regard of terms in Guild Wars 1, then an on air specialized Elementalist is called Aeromancer and not like some story based nonsensical group, like the Zephirites, only just because they have powers over the weather (which includes also Sunlight = Heat = Fire, that is not part of Aeromancy)Hmm, when its already confirmed, that only 1 Specilization will come, thats then my updated Wish List
Ranger > Druid – Staff – German: Druide
Thief > Infiltrator – Longbow – German: Infiltrierer
Engineer > Inventor – Hammer – German: Erfinder
Guardian > Crusader – Longbow – German: Kreuzfahrer
Warrior > Partisan – Land Spear – German: Partisane
Revenant > Harbinger – Staff – German: Herold
Elementalist > Arcanist – Sword – German: Arkanist
Mesmer > Chronomancer – Shield – German: Chronomant
Necromancer > Executioner – Greatsword – German: Exekutierer
I think what he’s refering to are the zypherites. Which could work actually, as someone was being trained to become one, or was that the sylvari who destroyed the ship? That wouldn’t be a bad idea either, could then make it like f1-f3 or something.

OH. Also some very important information, before the wardrobe system, there had been, in the database, an order of whispers spear, that was labeled polearm, and it’s weapon type was also polearm. I don’t think we’re getting land spears yet.
I have come to the conclusion that the person weilding the chaos bow at 2:20, during the pvp bit, is indeed a medium armor radiant armor set, it does fit the flow of the white on the armor more than female conjurer legs. so ele weapon is still up for grabs.
Also, while I don’t believe this will be the specialization engis get right away, I do hope they get something with elixirs, throw them at enemies for a small aoe stun, throw potions on the ground that could poison and apply vulnerability, maybe an ult that could give you quickness and either offensive or defensive boons, like power fury or protection regen, somehow make them hard to strip, like 2 second duration, but applies every 2 seconds?

about people thinking eles might get swords. I don’t think so. if you look at 2:20, in the pvp scene, you’ll see someone in light armor using a bow. at least i’m fairly positive it’s light armor.
Unless it’s female medium radiant armor.
Also, the incarnate wearing woman is dual wielding swords, so I really don’t think eles are getting swords.I really doubt it. The character that’s wielding a bow doesn’t show any attunement effects and also shoots no elemental effects. It’s most likely a ranger since the autoattack animation looks the same. Besides it would be a dumb move from Anet to give Elementalist a bow while we already have Conjured Frostbow which already has all possible bow skills, can be used for 100% uptime and has one of the strongest Elementalist skills. Conjured weapons should really be the last weapons to be focusing on. Giving Elementalist something they can’t already use is a far better option.
The woman actually only wields a sword and nothing else in her off hand (it’s her coat you are seeing). And since the cast in the trailer consists out of a certain group of players (that are shown through out the trailer). It’s most likely the Elementalist since it otherwise would be the only proffesion thats never been used in the trailer. Besides the Mesmer is already shown in the next scene with a off hand shield.
I feel like a fool, that is her armor. However; mesmers can already use swords, so it’s not enough to rule it out from being a mesmer still.

1:17 what class in that Asura on left, and what armor type is that character in the middle?
funny looking head armor she has on.@1:55 is that a Guardian Asura using a Bow in draconic armor?
2:16 what is that Asura class and armor type and whats that on their back?
whats that Sylvire guy as well and his armor type?
WTF 2:20 whats that cloth class doing with Bow?
2:21 that charr on right side of screen is casting fire balls with sword.
2:21 what the heck class is that Norn on left side with the light/med armor?
He looks like he has a Pistol in main hand. but whats strange is that he appears to grip it with both hands before shooting with one hand.
1. the asura could be either warrior or guardian, the hammer doesn’t tell much. the sylvari is in heavy armor. the woman on the left is in light incarnate armor.
2. the trail is too long for it to be a warriors f1 or skill 3, so maybe it is? or maybe revenant, hard to tell
3. I think that’s actually the asura from earlier, does look like the shoulders are the carapace armor. back looks like a backpack or shield or something. sylvari is heavy t3
4. that definitely looks like cloth alright. assuming each profession only gets 1 weapon, that would have to be an ele. if it is indeed light armor
that charr is in light t3. Not a single doubt about it. but no, in slow mo and in animation, that is actually a staff ele.
That norn is definitely in light armor. t2 pants. I have to assume mesmer, as we can’t see the shot itself.

Druids fit the jungle nature theme of the expansion and people been wanting Staff rangers for a while now.
If the choice of specializations is to match the theme of the expansion, then a Hydro or Geomancer would fit the bill (and if the Crystal Desert comes out as an expansion then I could see Pyro or Geomancers being good candidates).
Not only that, druid doesn’t have anything to do with the traitlines, it’s literally a subprofession that’ll fill a niche ranger doesn’t already. that’s why i’m doubtful they’d go a specific element.
Wouldn’t Druid be a specialization of the Nature Magic trait line?
uhh, i guess technically actually.
also at 1:52, it really looks like that mace attack is thief, it’s red with the black around it. like some of their skills do. or it’s revenant, it does also kind of look like rytlocks sword attack at 2:00. Even with slowmo, It’s hard for me to tell what’s what. Also, the dragon channel rytlock does, is that glint?
