the problem with that is, we’re only going to get 1 specialization at first, so the most likely one, if they were to go that path, would be arcanist

Depends on which one the dart landed on, I guess? I have no idea what reasoning was behind choosing Druid for Rangers, as it doesn’t seem to target the most or least popular mechanics of that class, so I can’t imagine which specialization they’ll go for first for the Elementalist. If they’re avoiding the most commonly used feature it’ll rule out Pyro and Aeromancers, at least.

Druids fit the jungle nature theme of the expansion and people been wanting Staff rangers for a while now.

Not only that, druid doesn’t have anything to do with the traitlines, it’s literally a subprofession that’ll fill a niche ranger doesn’t already. that’s why i’m doubtful they’d go a specific element.

Maybe I’m just boring, but five of the most obvious specializations for Elementalists are Pyromancer (uses axe as per Flame Axe), Cryo/Hydromancer (uses bows as per Ice Bow), Geomancer (uses shields as per Earth Shield), Aeromancer (uses hammers as per Lightning Hammer), and Arcanist (torch, maybe?).

I mean, really, it’s in the name of the feature: specializing. We’re focusing on a particular feature of a class and elementalists have the most clear-cut features of all the classes, complete with alternate weapons already associated with each of the feature (well, except for the arcane tree).

the problem with that is, we’re only going to get 1 specialization at first, so the most likely one, if they were to go that path, would be arcanist

They outright confirmed only one initial specialization for each profession when HoT comes out, they also said they can work on adding more. Also, I don’t know where people are getting the idea that 1 isn’t enough for specialization. Druid is a specialty of ranger focusing on something ranger itself couldn’t normally do, get it?

If we’re talking about hopes, for necro I’d be ecstatic if they played like diablo 2 bone specialists, doesn’t sound too far fetched either, summon a ring around a player that has to either be a blink out or destroy the circle, or line whatever. an aimed peircing shot, a homing orb (dodgeable), a spread attack like rangers shortbow 2, a protection spell, that would be lovely. Or just greatsword having a cleave attack, if I’m not being picky.

As for ele, I’m hoping for conjurer. Not so much the summoned weapons, but like conjure frost or flame, maybe a channeled beam attack, stone spear. I’m thinking these would all be single targets, but they really don’t have to be, could summon a volatile ball of lightning that either blows up when attacked, or when it reaches the target.

If thief gets a mace, I’m thinking a ruffian type class, giving it more sustainable damage without stealth. If it’s a rifle, sniper/marksman kind of seems the only way to go with such a weapon, but instead of warrior rifle, would be really focused on positioning, might still have stealth.

Guardians, considering their gearbox used to give warhorns, I’m honestly expecting paragon, they do kind of fit the bill, even if they already are great with support. Maybe they’d have shouts or something that will heal allies hitting a specific target, or an ult that gives quickness when a requirement is met; however, shouts that grant perks for having more people around kind of seems lame, seeing as how this isn’t instanced and there’s more people, would it do much in world events, is what i’m wondering.

Engineer, whoever it was who said forgeman, I was thinking that too, maybe it’s just the armor it was in. I don’t have much to say on that, don’t know how much the skills it used in the trailer reveal.

Warrior, not a single clue. There are titles like barbarian, berserker, legion commander, etc. that can be thrown around. But it’s not like there’s a niche warriors can’t fill, other than blind/stealth/poison. Though, I really doubt they’d make warriors mossmen.

Did they mention if revenant would get a specialization as well? I don’t remember. don’t know enough about the class for me to make speculation.

I don’t think we’ll be getting an actual new profession for a very long time; however, specializations will definitely be a thing. Currently there’s speculation that the mesmer will be the chronomancer, and another is guardian will be paragon. I think we’ve got solid professions down.

I never even thought about this concept. Um, but here’s my incomplete idea for what it’s worth. What if, for the revenant profession, the level 1 intro was the same for all the races, and took place after the fall of zhaitan and everything. Somehow at the end of it you get sent to LA? And the personal story they could have something announcing these are events that have taken place in the past, like they did in gw1 when different campaigns went on to do other campaigns.

Tengu as a playable race?

A Massive Headache.1879

I have seen some people posting about the feasibility of adding the Tengu to the current Personal Story line and cant help but make the observation that they already make an appearance in the Concordia (Lvl 70) step.
I guess my question is how does this one appearance of an otherwise elusive race factor into HoT and the Personal Story? Also their introduction as a playable race in the existing personal story line?

This topic has been beaten to death, but in short, Tengu will almost certainly have nothing to do with HoT; however, the plausability as a playable race is that, they had some work done initially that would have allowed them to be playable, they have a rich history, and they’re just awesome. As for the personal story, the problem is they’d have to write out dialogue for the tengu which seems like lot of work for something so trivial. A side note, they’re having issues with primordus, so when that dragon is focused, then we’ll more likely have them playable.

what bothers me about warriors using pistols is, why? and what does it do? The warrior is this non magic heavily armored fighter with weapons centered around the theme of power/strength. The pistol just doesn’t quite fit in, which also leads me to wonder completely, what kind of specialization is warrior going to have.
I actually don’t think torch is a bad option, considering many barbarians in fantasy novels, which is still just stab with it, and throw it.

Pistol, could fit in very well with swords. Swords isn’t about power, it’s fineness, since it’s primary point is conditions.

That is a very good point actually, I can’t think of a single counter-argument. I just still can’t imagine what kind of skills a warrior with a pistol would be.

Well they do use rifles which is pretty much a larger pistol in GW2 universe.

But I still don’t want that for specialization. I want something that makes the class feel unique from Warriors. Like Rangers and Druids are unique to each other.

I don’t want to be a Rytlock warrior. I don’t.
I want to be a unique heavy fighter. Warriors are already physical defensive fighters. Why not a magical defensive fighter?

Guardian and Revenant fill those roles, pistol is strenght based aka fire power you forgot we have fire blasting LB,rifle? Ranger Nature Magic, spirits… can easily relate to druid even Entangle,Muddy Terrain… if it’s CC based. OH pistol is the most likely weapon so far.

explosive arrow, needing strength to pull the bowstring back far enough to where it deals the kind of damage it does.
I mean i guess they could have hand cannons or something.

@Knighthonor, The rifle kind of seems like it still requires a lot of strength, like there would be a lot of recoil if they weren’t strong enough, such as the engineer rifle skill 4.
To me at, the warrior already not being magical at all mostly, doesn’t let me believe it’s specialization would either, I could be wrong though. I do have to mention, with the monkey king tonic and mini, that would be pretty sweet if warriors had that.

I’m a little late to this party; however, in my mind, the druid might play like, and these are literally the only examples I can think, treant protector and nature prophet from dota. Treant can stealth(by trees) leech seed enemies, and regen stuff, and entangle foes. Natures Prophet has a teleport, a circle of trees(like guard hammer ward but placeable aoe), and can summon treants, and an attack that jumps to foes even when they’re at a distance(it being a moment his range is if it’s in part of a map exposed, it gets hit).

The only alternative i have is the diablo 2 druid, but I really doubt that’s the route it would go, i would say sadly, but I don’t think that would work for this game regardless of how awesome it was)

New skills, possibilities. combos, are NOT an addition gameplay-wise !?

And EVEN if they werent, who said that an expansion must only bring new game-play, and not also new skins, and things that just look cool too ? They do this all the time bringing in those new skin packs and whatnot. As you said, “Adding stuff just for the saeke of being added”

I dont know how much of a fan you are of this game. I can tell you that you can trust that I’m the HUGEST fan of gw2 out there. But that doesnt make me blind, there is a HOLE that is the lack of those weapons in the game. Or at least one of them.

But what niche would it will? What would it add to a Warrior that he/she/it can’t do right now? If it doesn’t add something to that there is basically no point to spend the time and resources to add a new weapon.

I am not saying it must only bring new game-play, I am just questioning if adding something that is in no way needed or will not increase the playability of the game is really needed. Especially in a situation when said addition will require massive amounts of time and resources to get done, for very little gain.

Adding new skins does not require any balancing, it does not require any new programming and so on. It basically requires an artist.

I have to respond to this, especially the warrior bit. Warriors already fill every niche available banner/shout support, damage, they can stun lock like no other, I guess they can’t stealth or blind; but back to the topic, in that regard what role could a warrior specialization bring? And now that I think about, they’re getting another weapon too. I’m stumped.

EDIT: Also i agree with what ekarat said.

This post just sounds like whining. a new race would be great, but it’s just fluff. We have the ability to run support on any hero, no need for a monk when you can play shout or banner warrior, spirit ranger, various guardian builds, engineer builds, etc. I will agree I liked quests a lot in gw1, it made the story feel bigger, but it sounds like they’re going to go all out with the maps we’re getting so it might feel big enough as it is. We’re getting guild housing, and we have the home instance. A new crafting profession, what would it be and how would it improve anything? map queueing wouldn’t be able to work like wvw so I don’t know where you got the idea that was anytime soon, let alone being worked on. This isn’t skyrim. learn to play the market. legendary armor would be cool. we will get more specializations later on. They actually have people working on raid or raid like stuff, so that might actually be in. Heroes wouldn’t work for obvious reasons, though I would like that too. Each hero is getting at least one more weapon for them, so bam, more skills.

I’d like the concept of heavily armored combat ritualist with spears/x/javelins, four ghosts as mechanics, enchanting their weapons like in the first game. And them being Tengu with possibly some Aztec feeling on top of it.

Feels warm down there!

Actually, you bring up an extremely good point. Tengu being isolated for so long would still have ritualists and practice. And there still is something ritualists could bring to the table that would be unique. Debuff spirits, ashes(bundles), and spirit weapons in some form. So I have to commend you greatly.

And the people saying paragons were useless in gw1 either weren’t good at build synergy or they’re just a sheep who agrees with whoever. That being said, not sure how paragons could return and stay unique, as leadership doesn’t make too much sense in a non-instanced game.
And third, anets never been too good at balancing things, so yeah, if a new profession would help shake up the meta, I’m all for it.

I am however (and the point was) making this topic to have the community help with constructing it in a more lore friendly balanced away. Ideas are on the table for discussion.

ok then. as a concept it seems fine, I feel a few more skills could use up mist points and some of the chains, the last hit would deal more damage than the first. I do wonder if having the ability to consume conditions from allies, and copy them from enemies, how that would work with necros ability to do similar. And would the mist points degen out of combat?

when they were ending glory as a reward, they let people spend their glory on any cultural set, t3 was 60k glory, and 60 gold. they said that it’ll be worked on to include that for the fashion title, but still hasn’t happened.

im shocked to see that so few people figured out about the Sylvari …. the clues was in GW1 ( eye of the north ) and it was also written on the wiki for years …simple deduction.

That doesn’t really sway anything either way.

I though everyone knew already.

It was kind of obvious that they were either made by a dragon directly like Destroyers, or already corrupted from original plant-like creatures, but with free will thanks to the Pale Tree undergoing a purification process like Glint.

I still want to know exactly which one is it. What if Malyck did not come from a Dragon Minion tree, but from an original uncorrupted tree?

except there is/was substantial evidence that would say otherwise, which is why I think sylvari being dragon minions is just plain ludicrous.

I am torn.

One one hand, I think Sylvaris as dragon minions is equivalent to Sylvaris as race of Mary Sues. The writers were able to keep the truth or logic of their true nature hidden by making the mechanics of their true nature unique. I don’t consider that good writing, I consider that three card monte.

On the other hand; a player controlled race that turns out to be unwittingly and in some cases, intentionally, working for the enemy could prove to be a very dynamic environment for story telling. I just hope the writers have a handle on how dark this environment could get.

In Guildwars 2 beta, all players were corrupted by Krakaltoric, and players as themselves were fighting against other players who had the misfortune to have been corrupted by Krakaltoric. In the end Krakaltoric won as all players turned evil. This happened in all servers in NA and EU.

Are you sure? there weren’t any players that lived thanks to the level 80 npcs? I mean, I don’t have any proof that someone lived, but dang level 80 eir and garm, or was it zojja that was all mighty.

Funny how people seems to have an issue with everything (which is not even the case) being about the Dragons and yet the same people usually praise how good Guild Wars 1 was. Despite everything (and that was basically actually everything) was about Abaddon.

It didn’t really become all about abaddon until nightfall, which is why story wise, that’s my least favorite campaign. Gw2 it’s all just right off the bat, dragons this dragons that. Furthermore, there were sub stories going on that you could do to take a break from that. Sure, some of the events do the same, but on a seemingly much smaller scale.

Your comment is going to get removed, but before that happens. I agree. As far as compelling plot ideas go, this is not one.

Piece of advice to the writers. Not everything needs to revolve around the dragons. Your world begins to look very two dimensional when almost every single piece of lore we have in game in some ways ties back to the elder dragons (The Mursaat, The Seers, The Dwarves, Scarlet, The Gods…). We get that they are the big bad and are super important, but too much of one thing gets very old. You’re also tampering with lore that a lot of people love and making it seem rather trivial because you know what ‘dragons did it’.

For years before GW2 was released, it was well known that the story would revolve around the elder dragons. Now over two years into the story, you write to let Anet know their story is stupid.

I’m not convinced that ANet are the stupid ones. After all, you bought this game knowing that the story would be centered around the dragons. IF you thought the idea was stupid, why did you buy the game?

The dragons aren’t the problem. it’s that the story telling is just plain awful.

As for gameplay, mechanic sounds like a combination of warrior and necro, So I think that could use reworking, or maybe have it fill only upon taking damage? Though, that still seems to similar to warrior for me.

Also, coming from gw1, Hexes might mean a different thing to me, they were their own debuff, and lots of them, many having unique properties. I will say, I miss those, and I would like that to come back as a classes mechanic somehow, but I’m not sure how you feel about hexes, or exactly how you would treat hexes.

Now, it having both spirit weapons and transformations, that should limit the number of weapons it can equip, as it would have a ton of skills at it’s disposal if it stayed as is.

I do like haunt and rituals, sounds like banners or ranger spirit type skills that debuff the enemy, i don’t know how that’d be balanced, it could easily be super op. And how would demon fang be unique? how is it unique from warrior physical utility skills. Another thing that was unique in gw1 were skills called touch skills, and only a handful of professions had some, most notably.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Touch I would recommend maybe checking that out if you’d like.

and while this suggestion isn’t unique. Personally, I would remove zealot weapons and maybe go with signets.

1h or add paragons! Guardians are magic; paragons are more like warriors but support based.

You mean like warriors who use warhorns, shouts and banners?

No I think your thinking of a Warrior. Paragons are like warriors but are more focused on range but I can understand why someone like you doesn’t understand the difference. Warriors imo should be focused more on melee kinda sucks that all viable builds for warrior ALL use longbow. Feels like warriors are rangers with hammers lol

Bunnythumper! Didn’t need a pet anyways.

Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy the living story a bit, but I would like an actual expansion. The pax statement sure does sound like it’s just living story as usual. I find that disappointing. I feel after two and a half years that playable tengu, a new weapon, polymock and maybe other minigames, and new zones should have already happened. So I’m slowly losing interest in the game, simple as that. If this continues, well I had my fun, but I guess this just isn’t the game for me.
