How about just having these sort of rewards earn-able with in-game accomplishments, rather than locking everything behind RNG?

It’s so tiresome to have these items with an insanely low drop rate. Who enjoys that? And on top of that, the game is currently already lacking in rewards and good loot as it is.

GW1 veterans will recall this as the mini polarbear syndrome. It’s a dreadful course for the designers to follow.

Because without RNG, rewards would all become common as dirt. No prestige. No desire to have. So once you take away the desire to have the reward, you take away the desire to do the content that gives the reward.

I beg to differ, I still do dungeon runs for the armor and weapons, and I have most sets already. People will play the content if it’s fun. and the whole gauntlet I thoroughly enjoy

I think this downplays somewhat the fact that this “entity” operates through nightmare. And Mordremoth is suspected by some to also operate through the nightmare, which if true would indicate that they may be one and the same. I think the best way to kitten this would be to sidestep the issue entirely and try to look in detail into the nature of the nightmare.

Nothing says that the entity is operating through the Nightmare though. What is said is that entering Omadd’s machine broke down a boundary that is present in “our minds” (said by Vorpp, thus not limited to sylvari) that allowed the entity to get to Scarlet’s mind. Nothing about the Dream or Nightmare in there, really. Players suspect that the boundary broken was removing Scarlet from the Dream (which would thus mean also removing her from the Nightmare).

That’s…not what I was referring to. Rather, Scarlet Briar’s Journal indicates pretty clearly that nightmare is a vector for said “entity”, whatever it may be.

On an unrelated note (in response to what you were talking about above), the boundary broken can’t have been removing Scarlet from the Dream because the Pale Tree spoke to her whilst she was in Omadd’s Isolation Module, if you read the short story. It was in there that, as we are told in-game, when Scarlet looked across the open threshold, she saw things. And something looked back.

that pale tree mother was a hallucination

The discrepancy is simply too high vs grenth and dwayna.

Or those two recipes dropped to much and the devs made the new one more rare. Isn’t there a Balthazar back piece too? I thought I saw a link to it in the Wiki.

yeah, it’s a pvp reward track, that’s super easy to obtain, with zero rng in obtaining it.

Either the sylvari and the pale tree seeds are products of mordremoth, or “tyria is a living entity and the sylvari are its auto-immune system to the dragons” (which sounds like bullkitten)
Personally, i think story-wise, it is more interesting that the sylvari origin be attached to mordy. I just think them being a race that arose “just because” there are dragons and crap is just silly. An attachment to mordy would justify them being added to the game. otherwise it just seems like they were added because GW2 needed a naturey race to balance things, and the crap origin story of “tyria called upon us and we arose” crap is like shoehorned writing 101 bullkitten.

Also, why does no one realize that malycks first memory was waking up under a bridge? he wasn’t born from his tree the way our sylvari were born. I think he isn’t corrupted because of his concussion, he doesn’t remember a dream or anything, hes completely cut off from his tree, so how ever malyck acts, it doesn’t determine the attitude of his tree.
I think there is a 100% chance he will be in the living story season 2 because during the personal story missions with him, he says “we will meet again, valiant” about 459860723408957098 times (it got really frustrating). His current goal is to set out west, up river toward magus falls and find his tree, and oohh guess where we’re going in season 2…
That is if caithes secret isn’t that she killed malyck shortly after he left (that is if he already left in the cannon) so that the other tree doesn’t find us or whatever.
What the heck is caithes secret!! it bugs me!!

2 things obviously wrong with your post. 1. Mordremoth is supposed to be an elder dragon, right? Then why are sylvari completely new to tyria, with no record at all of them. 2. Malyck actually is born like all the sylvari, his pod fell into a river flowed down to the bridge, hence why he’s following it back to get to his tree.

His pod fell into a river, it was detached from his tree, As far as we know with our sylvari, their pods are directly connected to the pale tree. His was disconnected, which i think lends to why he isn’t all evil and junk from mordy.
Also, as far as ive seen, the records from the dwarves barely mention any dragon minions besides the ones they dealt with the most, the destroyers and zhaitans undead.
No matter which way you peel the banana, it can always be written for the sylvari to end up being the minions, whether you like it or not. If that’s the direction the devs decide to go, we’ll see. But really, i’d like any kind of origin story that is better than the hippie kitten we have now.

That’s how sylvari are born, they start as pods and fall.

Actually he is right about the sons of Svannir, they do in fact worship Jormag. And the inquest don’t worship the dragons, but they do pursue the study of them and their power.

Well yes, but sons of svanir still have some control before they’re full fledged servents, once they become completely frozen, then they’re gone and only under dragons power.

I wouldn’t call them minions, in my opinion they’re more like a side effect to the power of the many pale trees he created. Because we haven’t come across a truly “mordremoth following” “minion-like” sylvari. Malyck for instance wasn’t born of the pale tree and wasn’t evil, but that may have something to do with mordy being asleep. The nightmare court are just rebels of the pale tree and want answers about their origins in a violent manor. Pale tree sylvari will never fall into “corruption” unless they are separated from the dream like scarlet was. And then there’s the soundless; sylvari who aren’t against the pale tree, but not with it. Mysterious.

There’s still a lot of unanswered questions and gaps. But we can all assume that sylvari are in fact a product of Mordy’s power but not quite “minions”.

The seeds to the pale tree were found in a cave, 250 years before mordremoth even awoke, who was also the last one to wake up. last that we know of at least. Mordremoth doesn’t have to have any connection to the sylvari.

Except there are more sylvari that aren’t from the grove that aren’t evil. I really really hate the sylvari as minions theory, it just holds no water and I’m sick of it.

shrug
It may not be right, but it certainly holds water.

For instance what you’ve just said is easily countered by exploring “where is Mordremoth”. If he is imprisoned and his powers restrained, then all of the great trees that birth the Sylvari may be have their free will, not just the Pale Tree.
We don’t know that Ventari’s tablet is why the Pale tree isn’t evil, just that that’s where her teachings come from. She was free to to do as she pleased, she liked the teachings and so it’s why her Sylvari are so active in the world (act with wisdom, but act). Other trees made other choices. They may not even know for sure where they came from.
We know very little about how the high level dragon generals work. If they were planted/raised without their Elder Dragon’s influence they may have free will. It may be in shaping them as they grow that the elder dragons assert their control on their generals.

That all allows the Nightmare to be a part of the Sylvari that was locked away by their trees intentionally (because without their master around to back them up why would the other trees choose make waves and kitten people off in Mordremoth’s name, they’d be vulnerable and the major races would wipe them out). But there are also other possiblilities:
- The Nightmare is a deep part of the Sylvari the trees didn’t know about/didn’t have to actively affect, and after denying the dream the court eventually dug it up (either through soul searching, or dabbling in sadism which aligned with that deep agenda).
- The Nightmare is the influence of a dragon the Nightmare court has accessed, and while the Sylvari are dragon minions, they actually carried no “taint” of it, as their dragon is imprisoned/asleep. Heck there could be a dragon whose powers lie in nightmares and dreaming, and the Sylvari’s connection to their Dream just makes them more vulnerable to it’s power.

The theory in general allows for a lot of wiggle room on specifics kitten much is still unknown about the Elder Dragons and their limits/how they do things.

Their are other things that add some credence but don’t have much weight on their own (the way sylvari are bred), but the main piece of evidence and what I think is the key part of the theory is:
Why are their no dragon minion Sylvari? No corrupted, no undead, no branded. If we find another reason for that, or we find some of Primordus’s minions co-opted by another dragon (though a once off probably wouldn’t do, as with effort/luck Primordus ended up with a destroyer that could breed, doesn’t mean he can do it again easily) that is when the theory will no longer hold water.
Or, more likely at the moment, just finding out for sure one way or another in coming LS :P

200. actually that number might be wrong, but gw eotn there was svannir, corrupted by jormag FAR before he woke up. And from what I can gather, sylvari are immune to dragon corruption, while the dragon minions are not immune to such effects. I don’t think breeding is an issue

Oh and also the sylvari don’t corrupt things, nor does the pale tree.

I remember Magnus losing an eye for the city. I didn’t do all the various events, but I don’t remember seeing Kiel around.

oh kitten , not this arguement again. no duh, you’re a hero, and also no duh Trahearne is a hero. I don’t know why people can’t accept that the protagonist doesn’t always get the all the glory, even though in this game you do, everyone aknowledges your role, you’re just not the general of the pact, which also in an mmo that wouldn’t work, having every single player character be a leader. So get over that for starters. Kiel has been a hero since she stepped into the picture, she made a good resolution with the consortium in southsun, she started the investigation of the murder of the council man she took the place of, which we all voted for her to do so, she helped us fight against the aetherblades, and she helped us against the final fight against scarlet. yeah, she’s a hero.

Easy solution. Go play GW1 if you miss it that much.

That’s what I do when I miss DaoC.

Or better solution, try to get gw2 improved.

I remember very fondly of all the holidays. I remember on halloween we had simon says with MKT, who was also written better, with all those silly consumables, who could ever forget the ghost in a box. I remember wintersday when we had to travel the map to make freezie, and then the snowball fight was amazing, and the snowball quests, both the defense one and attack ones were a lot of fun, attacking being more challenging, and even near the end of gw1 being updated the balthazar vs melandru was really cool. as well as the god participation. I remember during american thanksgiving having the pies and april fools, and the golden eggs on easter that counted as rare drops, and of course the obvious canthan new year with the 2 of the best things: Rollerbeetle racing, and real Dragon Arena, and the wurm collecting mini game was really cool too, never cared for the nine rings actually, but the minis that came along, the celestial ____ I loved the way they were done.

Another few things that were added near the end of gw1 being updated was the nostalgia of going back to places I had almost forgotten about to get the hound of balthazar ranger pet and then rollerbeetle racing to get a rollerbeetle pet. they were so great.

Trying to get GW2 more like GW1 is not my idea of “improving” it.

Gw1 had tons of great ideas and many better implemented systems, it still had rng but it wasn’t bad. If they took more of the good from GW1, the game would be much better.

That’s your opinion. I like most of what Anet has done with GW2. I would not enjoy an update/rehash of GW1. If I wanted to play GW1, I would be playing GW1.

Besides that, I seem to recall the devs stating that GW2 was not going to be GW1 updated when GW2 was about to be released. Sorry that you wanted an updated GW1……obviously, GW2 is not that game.

Ok, so you’re suggesting we revert the wardrobe? Why stop there, let’s remove all festivals, let’s get rid of mesmer, necro, warrior, ranger, and ele too.
kitten , use your brain. GW1 had many good ideas, and if you’re going to just blindly dismiss that, what are you doing on the forums? By asking for improvements, that were in the previous game, isn’t asking for it to be a rehash of gw1, it’s asking for them to take a step back and think if it’s the right direction.

Like I said before…..that’s your opinion, not mine. /shrug

And I like how you have read so much more into my posts than was ever written. Where did I say anything about wardrobes, deleting characters, etc?? You must be clairvoyant, to magically pull so much from my posts.

You read into my posts, I bs read into yours. the wardrobe was how the gw1 costumes worked, you could have as many of them for your entire account, there were many features that made it from that game, because you didn’t know and didn’t get my post.

You guys are arguing about this as though there is “high end pve” in this game. The simple fact is that there isn’t any. The pve content is absurdly easy once you learn to play, with no need to min max.

All you need is Ele for FGS, Warrior for banners, + 3 zerker players of any class that know what they are doing. Yea you will go slower than a fully optimized group, but it will only be very slightly slower. On the flip side, you wont waste time looking for that exact class that you need to optimize your party.

Warrior Phalanx strength is enough to carry any party to reasonably fast completions if it comes down to it.

Unless you are going for world record speed runs or something like that. But who in their right mind cares about that. If you want High end PVE this isnt the game for you.

In short bring any class you want as long as they are full zerker.

I feel like this post wins. like, we can all go home now.

I reached the exact same speculation. The thing that pointed me to it was during the past LS where it mentioned the shadow and or corruption was already in scarlets mind and using the Asura’s machine unlocked it.

This lead me to believe that the Sylvari themselves are liberated dragon minions much like glint.

And that the pale tree has a block to keep Mordremeth’s influence out. I believe the Nightmare Court have this block removed and have given into Mord’s influence.

Except there are more sylvari that aren’t from the grove that aren’t evil. I really really hate the sylvari as minions theory, it just holds no water and I’m sick of it.

considering that necromancer can hit 4k on an auto attack(daggers) we should be pretty high up there too.

but that’s single target, necros can also auto attack with life blast for about 7k which pierces, but sometimes stacked enemies don’t get pierced right.

EDIT: necro dps is actually pretty good, but again, lack of a cleave hurts them. But for like fractals, where the most of it is spent against one boss at a time, I would reckon they’d be valuable there.

Ele damage is much higher than warrior, it pretty much is staff spaming fire. and guardian easily out damages warriors as well, no question; however, for a group, you’d still want a warrior for the banner and strength trait.

and on a personal preferance, i’d still take a necro over ranger, sure rangers have spotter, but single target necro dps is much more reliable, and for things like fractals that’s really all that matters. Plus i’ve never been in a situation where I needed extra precision after discipline

Yeah, dusty moon you’re wrong and here’s why. Rarity determines scarcity, scarcity determines price. simple as that. Look at all the living story exclusive rewards, the monocle is a great example, they had been all the way up to 800 gold, now only 200 something because it’s available again, marginally. If they fix the droprate of the chaos of lyssa recipe, the price is going to tank

I am not wrong – what if it was rare and just not wanted, would the price be high? No. Sorry your argument holds no water at all. It is supply and demand – capitalism at it’s finest.

If what you say is true, then people would have a hard time speculating on even little things like mats but they do. Hence, when the April 15th patch came out, many people sold their T6 mats because they were SPECULATING that the mat prices would tank and they did not, hence they sold prior to the patch. Mat prices actually went up, so they lost money buying back what they sold.

The prices are solely based on what a player is willing to spend -it has nothing to do with A.Net. Stop blaming A.Net and start blaming GREED.

I am not saying A.Net shouldn’t change the drop rates (it would be nice but won’t happen), but since many people are not doing the LS because the general drops are low, the amount of this item will remain low and the price high (BECAUSE PEOPLE WANT IT). Also, if they changed the drop rate to make it more available, people would be complaining because it is supposed to be a unique item and everyone has it now. You can’t have it both ways although many on this forum would like to (mainly blame A.Net for everything).

Monocle, not a particularly desired item, but still got up to 800g. simple supply and demand.

That is exactly my point – if people didn’t want it, it wouldn’t go up. If it is rare and a few people still want it, it will go up in price, just not as much.

A great example is the classic car market – there was a recent convertible Plymouth Barracuda that is going up for auction (one in existence – so far) and the price should be 4-7 million dollars. The regulars cars are high but not that much, like 100-250K depending on the options They no longer make them so the prices are still going up. Then compare the Edsel that Ford came up with. The cars are not desirable, but still some collectors want them and the prices are very slowly creeping up.

If A.Net was heavy handed and started to control the TP, the same people complaining now, would be up in arms that A.Net is cutting in on their profits. You can’t have it both ways.

Monocle would have just kept climbing, except it it was rereleased, so it’s obtainable again.

Oh and yeah, the people up in arms about anet controlling the market, wouldn’t be so bad, as the trading post is the only way to make substantial money

so eventually itll go to the hands who has Precursors are in the exact situation. Multiple legendary holders ARE NOT people that play the game a lot or even play well for that matter. They’re held by people who are good with spreadsheets or (and most importantly) trade gems for gold.

That’s just a sweeping generalisation.

I have 3 Legendaries. I did not get them from playing the TP or from buying any gems. Incinerator I was able to make after the first ever Karka event when a lot of people got precursors from the Queen (I myself didn’t get one) and the market got flooded and tanked, Spark cost me 130g on a buy order.

Quip took me a while to get because at first I didn’t want it, but I liked the Chaos Gun skin, funnily enough, at the time Ilya and Lyss were 3 times the price of Chaos Gun which I picked up for 50g.

Bolt I made two weeks ago from playing around with the forge and was lucky enough to get 2 Zaps and 2 Lovers over the course of a few weeks at a total cost of around 200g in exos.

As for not playing a lot, I’ve been playing since beta. I’m also R80 PvP and was in the 60s before the April patch that gave everyone a dragon.

So… about what you said…

congratulations! you’re an exception.

I don’t agree, my friend is currently making his 3rd legendary in as many weeks because like me, he got very lucky with the forge this last month with 8 precursors. He has also been playing for the same amount of time as is also an R80 in PvP.

You are making sweeping generalisations because people have what you don’t and want to think that these people are low skill, hardly play, must play with spreadsheets, must buy gems, any stupid excuse just to make yourself feel better ranting away because people have something you don’t.

it always amazes me that people don’t understand rng. rng is rng. time played, skill level, etc. none of those are factors for it, and considering this is an mmo, the likely hood of people who play “casually”, for lack of a better word atm, is greater than dedicated people, excluding verticle progressions, which I don’t want brought into this game, but that’s another topic.

Don’t mean to burst everyone’s bubble, but the “added” classes in GW1 were what caused constant skill balancing (and re-balancing) for 7 years…. From the comments I have seen, the Dev’s fully realize these were a mistake to introduce and they have certainly never mentioned any new classes for GW2 (and I doubt they ever will).

Would be HORRIBLY surprised if new classes are EVER introduced into GW2.

Uhh. first it was secondary professions that made gw1 balance impossible, also made it a ton of fun. Secondly, gw2 is already completely unbalanced. Third, they already said nothings off the table so it very well could happen, would be a fresh change to have a new profession that could fit a different play style

it’s more like pokemon, start out with 3 and, in gw1, running dungeons and beating others to get more, only had a party size of 3. and the polymock arena has been unreachable next to rata sum since the betas.actually for a while i guess people found out how to get outside rata sum, and in the waters below, I guess there was a gate or something to it, that has since been removed, as much as I loved polymock, i think they may have scrapped it.

cuz i hate people who lie about the gear they use.

I dont get why people want to control the pugging experience though. If you hate pugging, play with friends?

I don’t get why people want to control my pugging experience. If you don’t like how I pug, play with friends?

I don’t get why people are so insistent on either slowing, or in some cases, ruining my pug experience. If you don’t meet the criteria i’m asking for, don’t join my pug.

I support a dps tool that will acurately tell us how much damage we do over how much time. like the dude from isle of the nameless in gw1. as for inspection, I kind of support it, cuz i hate people who lie about the gear they use.

Yet there are those intent on removing all choice and limiting things based on their belief system.

The OP clearly states he has no problems with other people wearing skimpy armor and does not want those removed.

Did anybody bother to read the post?

The OP also states that he has never really looked at all the available outfit, or just showing the face means already “skimpy” to him.

Especially if you look at medium armor most of them covers everything, and even light armor there is more full body covering armor than what i would call skimpy.

Or of course that 5-10% is simply “way too much” for him, and not only maybe over 50%.

Actually op clearly says the opposite as a wardrobe nut, having researched the options. also, the incarnate, flamekissed, and profane are the extremely skimpy armor from the gemstore, that someone else asked for.

uhhh. problem is, the cost of chaos of lyssa is so high that the amount of people who would convert gems to gold to buy it, is probably only a hand full, and with this being a limited time thing to obtain it, it’s price is going to go up, see molten jetpack and monocles for reference; they did not go down until they were rereleased during the scarlet fights. The only people who will end up having this are those that are good at speculating and flipping the market.

In the end, that’s going to hurt anet more than it helps

That’s the problem you assume… Try asking! put up a vote for all to vote in not just you clothes censors! I am afraid you’ll be very disappointed! Quit trying to change kitten you don’t like for everyone else! If you don’t like boob windows don’t ware boob windows and don’t tell me what I should and shouldn’t ware! IT’S A KITTEN GAME!

Well, all they’re asking for is for more conservative armors. that’s not an issue at all, that’s a very healthy opinion.

I feel this thread is overblown, I just counted the light human female armor sets, only 15 were overly revealing, out 45 armor sets. and light armor is the worst offender.
