A Massive Headache.1879

I quote GW2 wiki here .

-The dwarves are a !!!near!!!-extinct race of short, stout humanoids made of stone, that once inhabited the Shiverpeak Mountains. They act as guardians of the Depths of Tyria, fighting the minions of Primordus and denying them passage to the surface. As such, few are ever seen

- !!!!!!Few lived to return to the surface and tell the tale of their victory!!!!!

-No longer interested in maintaining their solidarity as a race, these last dwarves scattered across Tyria, finding battles to fight in the deep caverns or !!!!!making new homes in far-flung hills!!!!!

-Regarding to Ogden Stonehealer, who is still alive and still present in GW2 Durman Priory: …………….. !!!!!!!!!!Like all who have undergone the Rite of the Great Dwarf, he has been transformed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This indeed proofes that not all Dwarfs have undergone this rite.
And it is almost safe to say that the Stone Summit did not go with
with the Deldrimors.
————————————————————————————————————————

Can someone explain me why the heck it would be against the fluff to meet some Dwarfs ?? They even appeared in a fight against Zaithan
Seriously……… Did you guys even read their story ?
?

Yes they are rare. But not all of them followed into battle.
Just think of Woman and children. They have survivors who didnt do the rite.
This could be a wonderfull start for a campain. Let’s help them to find back to their homes or at least give them a reason to go back home.
Let us explore the Far Shiverpeaks once again.
Even if most of them turned into stone. Let’s have an epic journey to give them a chance to live again.

All that as a mini campain with dwarfes as NPC’s until A-Net is done with China.
Is it really such a horrible idea?

The problem is, you have selective reading. “The dwarves are a !!!near!!!-extinct race of short, stout humanoids made of stone.” this is an entirely accurate statement. Every single dwarf is made of stone now, even the women and even the stone summit; Ogden is stone as well.
Not to mention, it’d be pretty weird to play as a near extinct race. to see at least half a million players with a dwarf character, kind of wouldn’t make sense.

Suggestion: remove underwater combat

I wouldn’t call for the removal of underwater combat, but it most certainly needs HUGE revamping. It’s not surprising they removed raid on capricorn pvp map. My issue with changes is that it would need a ton of work, that it simply isn’t going to get any time within the forseeable future, and when it does come, there will still be cries that more important things still need fixing, based on past and present issues.

Jski and Ashadow. a few things on dungeons. people grinding out a full set of gear in a day isn’t a bad thing, especially when this game is largely horizontal progression; People will always farm dungeons for money; dungeons are not challenging, not in the slightest and it’s easier to just tell people to stack in a corner than explain the entire mechanic of a boss fight, subject alpha was great fun until people learned stacking made him easy, and yes even telling people how the fight goes, there are a lot of players that just suck, my ignore list is probably only 2/3 spam.

To me, a huge flaw of this game is that it forces you to group with people, to rely on others that will let you down. Have you ever killed a champion without the zerg in queensdale? It’s hilarious, people throw fits, it’s not even a joke, people are enraged about it(the oakhearts were the best way to finish the plant slayer title in my defense). And speaking of zergs, tequatl by far seem to have a much lower sucess rate, you need people on the cannons to take out the scales and the zerg at teqs feet to kill it, not a hard concept but it fails so often; three headed worm, simple concepts not done very much. I honestly believe that the best success of those events will come from guilds turning it into raids with how the mega server is, if it’s worth it, idk i forget how much it all costs in terms of influence/merits.

But back to dungeons, they’re easy, but due to scaling you kind of need a party to complete it in any reasonable amount of time, excluding path 1 and 3 of cm. The game forces you to party with people, and a lot of times, that’s really not desired

And really quick to touch up what Azure Power said “WvW is about as social as where you sit at a celebration party you’re invited to and not talk to any one.”
pretty fair assessment. By yourself, you can easily take all the camps on a map, now I’m on SoS so maybe it different for other servers, but for a while there was a guild doing small scale raids taking towers without a commander tag, there were a lot of people whining about that, that they couldn’t be a part of the train. And even when zerging, people don’t res, don’t stomp, don’t pay attention, don’t listen. Though wvw is flawed it is all about taking stuff rather than defending for us really. we’re teir 1.5 or 2.5, either getting dominated or doing the dominating. zero in between

Holy cow do I completely agree with Svetli. While it’s true good people do play at all sorts of times, chances are you really only trust people on your friends list, and just add people who were good in pugs when necessary, and put the absolute awful players in the ignore list; while it’s kind of a pain to go through your friendslist see who you added for what, assuming you nicknamed the people you add and ask them. And do not get me started on people in wvw, they will let you down at every single turn.

it’s really an awful thing that everything is a once a day thing, sure you “could” do dungeons multiple times a day, but there’s no point. Horizontal progression is fine, there is absolutely no need for vertical. Just look at the first guild wars, only horizontal progression

A Massive Headache.1879

Lets ignore the fact that I was trawling through Reddit looking for when Colin said “No new areas or races this year” thinking this thread was new for a second….

Ok so one thing thats been mentioned with regards to a new race is the personal story. Certain races would not fit into the current personal story and so can be discounted right? Well think about it this way- why would a new race need the current personal story? Why not give it its own unique story? Would drive sales (either gems or expansion) and create a huge buzz. Those that were not that interested would buy just for the new achievements and lore….

Just seems logical.

I’m thinking the same thing, and especially with what i hear about the chinese release, that it won’t have the personal story and that they’ll have skipped the first living story season, maybe there will be a new, hopefully good, personal story that could go along side the living story that a newly introduced race could partake in. I’m still rooting for tengu

EDIT: I’d also like to mention, when i saw this forum post in the top of the gw2 discussion it took me way longer than i’d like to admit to realize this was a necro.

For people who played the first Guild Wars, Hylek and Tengu are pretty awesome. However, tengu in this game, share a model with charr, they’re just not nearly as bulky, so I don’t think the armor is that much of an issue. I think the biggest issue is languages and voices.
and lightyears, humans are always the most popular race in any video game, it’s boring and vanilla, but it’s always the case, and that infographic doesn’t really show much of anything as there are no numbers involved.

EDIT: also, that shows rangers as the second most popular profession, yeah, that’s a great picture you have there.

A Massive Headache.1879

I have to say, I really like this change. Legendaries are pretty much just a prestige item, kind of like titles. That stat changing effect is nice, but ultimately useless. Since legendaries are just a show of grinding either the money for the legendary or the actual making of it, or even just buying it with cash to gold, I don’t see any issue with it at all.
However, I do believe something should be done for those who had made 2 identical legendaries, maybe unbind them so they could sell the spare or maybe give them the option to split up the thing so they could sell a precursor and buy another to make another legendary instantly; maybe not either of those, but something.

Edit: and yeah, it’s not like everyone is going to instantly give every character they can the legendary.

SAB would be awesome but I think they got lazy and gave up on it.

I just wanna say this isn’t exactly the case. What happened was they realized world 2 zone 2 was way to long and had too many issues. They’re not only fixing the length of world 2, but they also probably want to release world 3 as well so they have a bit of work to do. SAB is, while not everyone’s cup of tea, still very popular and I doubt they’d discontinue it.

What does trouble me is, at least the engi trait, I never use inventions at all, that trait looks nice, but the only time i ever use turrets is static discharge with the knockback on death, it’s fun, but I don’t think I’ll ever use a turret build.

As for a ticket for gw1 players, that would be nice and you could argue that it doesn’t hurt anyone, but I feel like they’d get kitten from non gw1 players, some of which are upset we got an increase in achievement points, so take that as you will.

I disagree with “a ticket”. It should be skin for skin. If I had sword and sheild in HOM then I should get sword and sheild. If I want more then I need to go back to GW1 and accomplish more.

Non-GW1 have no place complaining. They can do accomplishments in GW1 at any time. If they don’t want to then they are choosing to forgo the benefits. Plus I have NEVER heard any non-GW1 player complain about anything GW1 players have gotten so I have a hard time believing that this is in anyway a real issue. Many players like to game hop and they will play for as log as it interests them and move on the next best thing. Anet can’t afford to insult those who were loyal and consistent over those who wont be here long after a newer game can take its place.

Well, remember when they increased the achievement points for hom stuff? that’s the easiest one to remember.

Now I’ll say, tormented weapons really shouldn’t be a ticket item, they should be a elite area weapon set; however, anet doesn’t seem to agree with that, and they run the place. Still, asking for a straight weapon in gw1 to gw2 conversion is obviously crossing the line. It isn’t reasonable to tell someone to go spend an additional 50 dollars for gw1 and expansions, just for a weapon set or hom points, which btw would still take a month or two.
I really wish I were on the forums when zodiac weapons were released to see the arguements then. While they weren’t hom weapons or nearly as prestigious, they were still elite area weapons.

That wouldn’t solve anything, the weapons were done so sloppily and lazily, in their current form, they are an insult to guild wars 1. And the ship has long sailed past for these being a part of your legacy when they did the zodiac weapons, which were also sloppy but not nearly as much as these. Sure these were hom weapons, but that’s about it, you can craft destroyer weapons extremely cheaply, and oppressor weapons will be ticket claim weapons next. They’re probably going to put in some guild wars 1 armors in the cash shop as well.

The weapons are indeed poorly done, the Shield especially was a huge dissapointment for me, as well as the Greatsword. This version of the shield does not even come close to the awesomeness of the one from GW1. But I maintain that it would be a nice gesture towards the GW1 veterans who collected the entire Tormented set in their HoM, if they would receive one free ticket for a GW2 Tormented skin. And it would definitely cut down on the griefing. It’s not a big thing, but it would be nice. Regardless of this, I will get the only GW2 Tormented skin that I like (Axe).

I wouldn’t want them because of HoM, but more because of what they represented in GW1. Destroyer and Opressor weapons were never close to the prestige the Tormented ones held, they were just other weapons to be put in HoM.

And there are already 2 armor sets from GW1 in the gem store, Primeval and Krytan (IIRC).

On a quick side note, can you consider the profane armor gw1? it’s kind of close enough?

that’s actually a very fair point about the oppressor and destroyer weapons, I just often forget that as i was farming DoA back when ursanway was still a thing, Tormented weapons did require the most farming, in terms of effort or time.

As for a ticket for gw1 players, that would be nice and you could argue that it doesn’t hurt anyone, but I feel like they’d get kitten from non gw1 players, some of which are upset we got an increase in achievement points, so take that as you will.

I kind of wish they’d have consulted the HoM calculator and given a ticket in the mail to individuals who had collected them all from GW1, it’s rather annoying to see them returned and part of bridging your legacy is now items that were added to it, not in the game on release, and now redone in the gemstore; Classy.

This would have settled this whole issue IMO. GW1 vets should be satisfied (I know I would be), while the skins would be in gem store making $$$ for ANet.

It’s not too late to implement this, ANet!

My issue is that this painstakingly reminds me of all of the skill-requiring content in GW1 that just doesn’t exist in GW2.

Which is what people in this thread, who have never played GW1 don’t understand. Torment weapons actually required a degree of ability to achieve and persistence to obtain.

GW2 took a treasured weapon set and commercialized it. They just needed to throw in some cute babies, a tear jerking song and a conflict that gets resolved so everyone lives happily ever after.

Rose tinted specs…

As a GW1 player I can assure you having a torment weapon was not a badge of skill, it just showed you had enough ectos to buy an armbrace of truth. There was not a single `prestige` weapon that you could not buy if you had enough gold.

right, 100k and how many ectos were they? yeah, you could buy the armbrace, but either way it required a good deal of farming, more so than the average player base did.

My biggest problem is they didn’t even try when remaking them. the axe is too small, the sword is wrong, that did the hammer blindfolded it is not the tormented maul, staff?, spear is too small, shield wasn’t quite right. The ranged weapons and mace are pretty nice, they just didn’t pay attention to detail at all with the set.
