I know I’ve had a hard time dealing with the score
We arnt losing by enough
I don’t mean to generalize BT because there are some solid players there. The rank and file zerg ball crap is pretty terrible though.
Score?…what is this score?
I bet we had the same impact as the 5-8 BT that had the misfortune of venturing into our island over and over.
Now I understand why you guys avoid running small groups
dealing with useless ‘roamers’
…Sorry we killed you bro!
So hows the roaming action in this tier? I see a lot of posts about people running 5…
What is there to discuss really?
so, so angry…
Funny that you should call me out about that when your posts have all been pretty terrible and angry.
I dont care harder than anyone here
zerg guild. Like everyone else in this god forsaken matchup.
I concur, this whole thing is a zerg fest and even if you do get an even fight adds are just around the corner.
hmm, Yaks or AR…
Something to think about. If mag continues as it is we will probably start looking around again.
Would be very interested in kind of an unofficial official small man server…
We did some transferring around to try to find a sweet spot and what I noticed is that in lower tiers you dont really get smaller zergs (to a point, there are no 100 man wrecking balls of course) as much as you do fewer zergs. Each side has their coast guard that will zerg your kitten the second you pop a sentry but not enough people to spill over into other borderlands.
I feel for you guys having to put up with maguumas obesity problem those last two weeks and understand you running 10ish.
Id just like to point out that arrow carts and catapults and cannons are things that exist.
People who complain about getting killed in JP’s just fuel my desire to keep killing them.
This is really the beginning and end of it.
Why does one think they put a jumping puzzle in the pvp zones anyway? Im pretty sure it wasent because they ran out of room elsewhere.
How are we going to call AE a problem when there are arrow carts, cannons, and catapults around. Talk about opportunity cost…
Id like to set the record straight with regards to maguumas position in this whole dance:
1. We dont want to be here.
2. Wed like to leave as soon as possible.
3. Anything over 5 people is not a “small group”
gotta keep yo head on a swivel this week
No just very small, 5 man or less groups
Anet just needs to get it over with and put “arrow cart” in the class selection list.
Look at it this way. We havent had a good fight in over 2 weeks. Many of us have been spending time in spvp for that very reason.
Maguuma was in a good place before all the transfers. It was in a “just right” tier where it wasent too zergy and there were still plenty of people around. Even if we do even out to have a balanced score the kitten borderlands are going to be packed with people and its going to be nothing but zerg fights 24/7.
Please beat the crap out of us so we can get rid of the nuthuggers before transfers end!
-Thx, Maguuma
Does kaining run any small group stuff or is it all for the realm business?
Many people that enjoy dueling also enjoy open world fighting. The unpredictability, the flow, et cetera.
Holy crap have these last 2 weeks been the worst time I have ever had in this game. I dont see how any of this can be appealing to the band wagoners.
Even if we do get to a tier where things even out the population density is going to make it impossible to get a clean fight.
Will training include a special topic on how to transfer the hell off of maguuma?
On a related note, does anyone else enjoy driving groups of nut-hugers into defended supply camps, backing out, and watching them all get slaughtered?
I think I fed a group of Burn about 20 people yesterday.
Agreed, kids these days with their tweeters and their mumbles…
Perhaps you should join your compatriots on greener, and notably less maguumian, pastures.
Just wanted to let you guys know that we’re reading this thread.
Your logic, reasons, anecdotes and ideas are being listened to. Also keep in mind, that as I said yesterday, a skill can be a balance problem in one area of the game, but underpowered in another. That’s the nature of using one set of #‘s to balance across all areas of the game. So we’re keeping that in mind as we look at this. We may need to do different tweaks in different areas of the game.
We’re also not going to make a knee jerk reaction to this. We’re still gathering data, watching player trends, and having meetings on all possible ramifications from possible changes.
thank you for the answer, it calmed me down. If you think there’s a problem with AoE in WvW, nerf it in WvW, but not PVE, because nerfing AoE in PVE when some classes already have problems would effectively kill off engineers and staff builds of mesmer, elementalist and necromancer.
No prob. Some classes have a ton of AOE, while others don’t have as much. So we’re not just going to do a blanket nerf to all AOE – that’s not fair to all classes. We’ll go on a class by class, weapon by weapon basis.
And as I’ve said, we may need to tone something down in one area of the game, but it may be totally fine in another area.
For some weapon sets, the AOE options may be too strong compared to the single target options, which is what we aim to address.
I have to wonder what events and circumstances has led to ae being identified as a problem. My personal experience is running small groups against larger numbers. In these circumstances we rely on ae to put pressure on the larger force but the ae cap of 5 severely hinders us.
If I could make general suggestions it would be to make ae skills require more thought and execution (‘skill shot’ instead of ‘click button for bags’) and in return lift the 5 target limit.
I’m sorry, but I would love to see this thread result in a bunch of people transferring to Maguuma, using all of their WvW supply to build flame rams in various awkward places (such as the well in the EB jump puzzle) and post videos of them on youtube. It would be hilarious, but unfortunately poor sportsmanship. Or maybe we could have an “Awkward Flame Rams” thread here on the forums.
Maguumans are perfectly capable of building frivolous flame rams all on our own thank you.
Is anything really a problem? You stand in red you’re going to die. Whats insulting is that if enough people stand in the red everyone lives!

This new found maguuma zerg better not hold up into next week. Its been brutal out there for us, I can imagine what dr and borlis went through all week.
Montage of some of this week’s footage. This one is more of an entertainment style movie. Some group versus group, some 3vN, some humor.
We had a one-man advantage in the group vs. group fights, so keep that in mind.
You tooled us pretty hard in that fight. Probably the worst loss weve had. Unfortunately we didnt see any more than a 3-4? man of you after that.
If you want to set up some fights sometime let me know!
Going to be running a small man around devonas borderlands, probably east or west plains. If anyone wants a fight let me know.
Some very nice fights in DR borderlands tonight. Saw of a full group of [NAME] that put up a good fight and a few others I dont remember. A nice change of pace considering how zergy this match up has been
Since antiquity people have been taking rvr/wvw, whatever, way too seriously.
Respect peoples fights and they will respect yours. It benefits everyone but the ‘for the realm’ types.
With the maps being so incredibly small I see no reason not to just make people release once they get stomped.
1. MEZ
2. no cap to AOE
3. eliminate DPS in the downed state
4. Ra’s from realm points so i can buy new toys or add points to power etc.. (ONLY GAIN RP’S FROM KILLS NO PV-DOOR CRAP)
I like this guy, except 4. Im fine with cosmetic crap.
I think the issue is that there is too much passive condition removal instead of deliberate cleansing. Most of the time its tied to heal skills or dodge rolling or something else that people do multiple times a fight. Condition removal is in a spec and happens naturally instead of someone noticing they have a tons of bleeds and making a conscious decision to do something about it.
On necro I need a /suicide button to just get it over with. On thief I feel like Im trolling people.
The ability to push stomps out 5+ seconds combined with the batkitten rally system is just too much.
Nearly every class in this game has lots of cc and none of it has immunity timers. Its just mostly single target or longer cool down. Which doesent matter much when youre fighting 2x your numbers anyway.
Remove most of the single target crap, make people have to spec for cc, give it some immunity timers, give people the ability to cure other peoples cc, and make it effective
I agree with that. I was more talking about people using the argument “They were glass speced so anything we can do to them is ok”
I like the way Straeter thinks.
L2P really. The only people I have ever seen die easily to backstab in WvW are low levels being buffed to 80 status. Actual 80s in decent gear with some knowledge don’t die instantly to this unless they are below half health and already under fire from other players.
People dieing to this are pure glass cannon builds themselves.
I have no idea where you get this. There are some class/spec combos that are difficult to kill. Everyone else melts. Not necessarily insta killed but put in a position they cannot recover from.
I play thief in wvw. Im better than average I think but Im not great and I dont miss c+d/mug. Again, I cant be the only person here who tries not to telegraph the kitten thing.
Also, why do thieves get the monopoly on glass cannon builds.
^^ Thief mobility is second to none. When people try to run on me they end up eating a back stab pretty quick.
I see everyone talking about dodge roll avoiding the burst like its cake and they are all experts at it. Very rarely do I run into people who can do this. You have to preemptively guess the burst right. You wait for the roll and then pop them anyway and its back to insta kill. Better yet, fake them out with auto attack to get the dodge roll.
All this usually assumes head on encounters anyway. I cant be the only one who hides behind corners or on ledges so people have to be panning just right to see me.
My issue with the combo is that its incredibly easy to pull off and impossible to reliably avoid. The reward/effort ratio is out of whack.
Zerging will always be the preferred way of play in open combat, and zergers will always make up the majority of the playerbase. Instead of making the game worse for zergers, you should be looking at ways that’d make things a little easier for smaller groups without hurting the biggest part of the playerbase in a significant way.
Agreed. Unfortunately this is the same reason small groups are unlikely to receive attention.
All i want is my realm points
If your talking about a stealth stomp than you need to ditch your class envy b/c ele’s can mist stomp, Wars can invuln stomp, etc. Those are tons more effective than stealth stomping.
Right, a skill with no cool down and that has a good chance of avoiding damage through stealth is totally worse than something that lets you stomp one guy and then wait for cooldowns.
We found running thieves in small groups to be frustrating. It was easy enough to down most of a zerg but the ae and things like guardian knockback in downed state made it difficult to stomp people.
Our philosophy now is try to find ways to get burst out while still running tanky specs/classes and its been working a lot better.
