Oh, my group didn’t get wiped tonight so we beat your score Oink ;-P (poke) Granted we were 9-14 at differing times but when my screen has red con names from the left side to the right side you gotta smile :-}

On a side note though, I have to say the culling is so much better now. Can see exactly what & how many are chasing making the “moment” right ;-P If you know what I mean. Now lets pray for AoE back the way it was at release :-}

The reason that people keep comparing games to daoc is that despite people trying build on it they keep moving backwards. Its a kitten 11 year old game that had tons of flaws and still everything that came after it was worse.

Running around IoJ on my 56 alt trying to get vistas and POIs but get slammed by a group of OINK and NoQQ 80s… twice. Second time I stayed well clear of them but they chased me down.

Now that’s fine and all. It’s a PvP map. I get that getting kills is fun and part of this part of the game. Matter of fact, I’d probably have done the same if the player didn’t /wave at me first.

But when we question DH’s class, remember that this is a PvP map and that all is allowed. Someone /laughs at you, find them and hunt them down. Otherwise, don’t complain. (By which I mean, PvP maps are what they are. Deal with it.)

Have fun with the anti-culling zerging and kills I know I will. (Look forward to some battles on my main with you guys in that group haha)

Previously youd judge the size of the dude running at you’s balls to guess how many were behind him. It was an acquired skill but we got kind of good at it. Now everyone sees everyone and its much easier to bait zergs into manageable groups.

I don’t know if the zergs are larger or if we are just seeing the whole thing for the first time.

I would say large group combat is a lot less dynamic. The choices are a lot more obvious as you mention, fortify, mobilize ect. But none of this takes the person into account because at this level people are largely interchangeable. If you can follow someone and mash buttons you are 80% as effective as anyone would be in the same role.

On the other hand, small group direct pvp combat offers a wealth of complexity due to the timing, precision, and communication needed. Small choices you may not even know you made can be the difference between winning and losing. Plus it offers you personally the ability to try things differently and see the direct result. It offers you the ability to learn and be a better player.

If youre new to pvp the siege/score can be fun for a bit. But PvDooring and zerging people down loses its luster along with the static encounters involved in the whole process.

Untimately pvp is about player vs player. Take 2 people and put them in a box and you will get years of unpredictable and unrepeatable play. Put hundreds in a huge box and some really fun and interesting things happen. But not if no ones leaves the comfort of their cannon encrusted keep.

I think its a couple of thigs. Too offen AAA titles try to be everything to everybody. This game is a great example of that. Secondly companies are hellbent on designing PvP with new or pve focused players in mind assuming people who enjoy PvP will be perfectly happy with anything that has keeps and rams in it.

People need to understand that PvP is built around combat systems and incentives/bragging rights. Not omg huge battles and trebuchets.

Which is why all these systems incentivize zerging. Which goes against a net stating they would like to incentivize people to stop zerging quite so much.

Another thing is that these ranks are going to mean absolutely nothing. The best players are going to be low rank just because they tend to not zerg. As mentioned, no one compares kill counts for a reason, they are meaningless and it no way a representation of accomplishments.

This type of progression is dumb and meaningless. Plus its tied to an “every kid gets a trophy” exp system.

All they are doing is further cementing zerg dominance.

Playing for points already has a reward system, the scrore, and will also grant world exp.

Its so simple, each person is worth fixed exp. Why are we reinventing the wheel over here.

Do you honestly believe that players who spend the entirety of their PvP experience relying on support from other players and/or superiority in numbers to win out in a situation could ever be “equally skilled” to someone who focuses primarily on 1vX fights and trains to fight them?

Your mistake is in thinking that 1v1 is skill and 20v20 isn’t. I guarantee I need more skill and better timing playing a front line engineer who is liable, at any moment, to be targeted by 20 people than you do by playing footsie with 1 or 2 other players. A skilled support Guardian is worth three duelists in a fight for the lord room of a keep. The duelists will all be downed and stomped while the properly specced WvW characters are still up, fighting and supporting each other — something duelists don’t have any practice at or ever build for.

I can say from experience that all these people bragging about their 20v20 prowess fall down like everyone else when you catch them in 5s or less. Not saying everyone that participates in that is bad but the good ones you can usually find in small groups from time to time.

I admit its a different skill set but nothing teaches you the game like running 5 or less.

highlight of my time on wow was pvping as a max geared blood DK with twice everyones hp, constant health gains and topping the damage meter every BG
that being said, it was very cheap and required 0 skill, just like any of the copy/paste builds in Buildwars 2’s meta whether its dagger ele, backstab thief, bunker guard, trap ranger, s/p mesmer, they’re all the same copy/paste EZmode.

ele atleast requires some APM and CD timing, since they manage 29 skills while most classes only manage 16 to 20

im not sure if its a testament to how over-designed eles (and engineers depending on how you build) are or how under designed everything else is, warriors are particularly kitten in this sense, absurdly braindead to the point where i feel nothing for people complaining about warrior issues

Don’t pretend any class in GW2 requires any reasonable level of APM, or any MMO for that matter.

That’s why mmo combat is ideally more like chess and less like a fps. Removing the need for people to rely on others and making everyone self sufficient killed that though

Its certainly more work than anet has resources. Which is why the whole discussion is academic.

This goes back to the main issue I have with the game, everyone is so self reliant its created a very extreme and stale environment.

I think the amount of healing/bunker/burst would be fine if it relied on people working together to achieve it. What if self heals were weaker but group heals were stronger. What if combos could achieve some large burst and a single persons abilities were lowered ect…

Its a population game and mag got a lot of unwanted transfers

I stack stealth on my Mesmer a lot more often than my thief, usually to avoid getting humped by thieves ironically enough. This change will hit Mesmer survivability pretty hard. Throw in a shatter nerf and its going to be a serious downgrade.

…I need a new game

I’m starting to think its impossible for larger companies to develop good PvP for a very simple reason: they are not good players and don’t understand the intricasies of what’s required for a healthy system. And why should they. They are hired based on experience and coding skills not on PvP acumen.

This is why I believe interaction with high level players in the community is so important. They have the knowledge and are happy to help for free. Its a shame no ones willing to swallow enough pride for that to happen

The zerg will always exist. Its a nice safe place for people that don’t want to get their feelings hurt.

The problem is zerging is the only game in town. If people were worth a fixed exp divided equally to groups that participate in the kill folks would have a reason to get outside the zerg once in a while. Then we would have groups of every size roaming around and not just one boring kitten zerg ball.

Plus this is going to cause zerg balls to chase down solos and reward them just the same as if they’d won a 1v1….so stupid.
