The problem is that skill does not play enough of a role. Of course skill could matter to much and make the game inaccessible to new players but as it stands numbers > all
Saying doc was nothing but cc+pbaoe discards everything after the first expansion. It wasent perfect but everything since then has been a step backward.
I guess there is a large number of people that enjoy the zerg gameplay. I dont really understand it but small group people are definitely the minority.
Isn’t that what sPvP and tPvP is for? Small group vs small group?
People keep saying this but it just isn’t a replacement for open world PvP. The conquest game type is terrible and discourages actual PvP. If you ever have an even numbered fight on a node one side screwed up. You can have an entire match where no one dies you just push people in and out of nodes.
If they release a tdm style format many of us will go there but it won’t make up for the spontaneity and unpredictability of open world fighting. Its fun to take on larger numbers. Its fun to have three way fights. Its not fun to fight nothing but 30 man zerg balls that Rex faster than you can down people or Wilson off to the nearest keep so they can hump you with arrow carts.
And this is why it impossible to have a discussion relating to small group fights.
I think if we stick with the conquest game type the only solution will be to increase map size and number of objectives. As it stands one big zergball can cover a map. More objectives further apart will force zergs to split up to cap multiple objectives.
I can’t believe a game so focused on zerging has something as game breaking as culling. Its Benny hill levels of rediculousness.
Camelot unchained:p
People always copy the wrong parts of daoc. Even old daoc developers….war hammer online….
My god so much misunderstanding of game mechanics.
There is the normal pre cast c&d→mug→bs combo which gives time to stun break.
Just like you can pre cast c&d you can precast backstab as there is a 0.5s(?) cast time. In doesent matter that mug reveals you the backstab is already triggered and will go through.
In this case the mug and backstab come instantly out of stealth. There is no opportunity to stun break so those of you using that as your argument need to l2p yourselves.
How do think dagger/pistol even works people?
and if you shadow refuge up to get the long duration stealth you can drop someone from literally out of nowhere from the victims perspective.
I guess there is a large number of people that enjoy the zerg gameplay. I dont really understand it but small group people are definitely the minority.
I dont particularly care about confusion, we have used it to great success in the past. But you take ticks for things out of your control in many cases.
Also, does that say it takes 3-4s to apply confusion?…
Its such a hamfisted mechanic.
Anet made ae attacks very prevalent with high damage. Instead of fixing that they artificially limit the number of people it hits.
In DAoC attacks typically broke cc effects so throwing random ae around was a good way to get blacklisted from every group ever. What about something like making certain ae attacks grant a short duration of stability or something.
It doesent specifically have to be that, just something to make people think before throwing ae around.
In antiquity most mmos were based on some kind of resource system. Resurrection was not only limited by class but it also required a large expenditure of these resources to perform a rez. The reasoning was simple, bringing a person back from death is a very powerful ability with corresponding large cost.
In GW2 there is no cost at all meaning rezzing can reset a fight, wiping out nearly all progress made by one side or even putting them at a disadvantage if they spent costly cool downs to down the player.
There needs to be a cost.
Without a resource system this becomes a bit more challenging. One idea Im fond of is that players should have to “spend” a portion of their hit points to perform a rez. Enough for them to feel some pain but not enough to automatically doom them.
With this system players would still fell like they are making progress if a target gets revived while giving the other side a chance to get back in the fight.
Some of the things you take confusion damage from are absolutely kitten
This is the real problem in my eyes.
Funny thing about confusion epidemic is that the hardest part is making sure your target doesent instantly explode during the mezmer bomb. Conditions clear on down.
Typically I would get numbers of around 3200 a tick after a good epidemic. Mezmer stack+necro stack means that people hit themselves somewhere around 6k per.
Mass invis in and people die before they know what hit them.
Seriously though, people are already getting tired of the zerg crap en mass. Seems like more and more people are rocking duels every week.
or slick up them shoes
If they reward based on kills they may as well remove the objectives. No one would attack/defend. It would simply be “hey lets find an open field and beat on each other all day for titles”
Not even close. This system existed and what you say will happen, didnt happen.
Are you really making the argument rez/rally doessent benefit the side with the numbers?
Business basically. Resources have to be allocated to where they think the biggest return/growth is. It ain’t in wvw
And why has open world PvP regressed since daoc? Shouldn’t things move in the other direction.
The ae limit is to on the nose. If ae is a problem reduce its availability. Telling people that thing they just casted doessent matter is stupid
It was originally the December balance patch which became “were totally making major changes in January”, which led naturally to two major updates in Feb/march and now march/? And will in reality be delivered just before some competitors release like every other game ever
But that’s just like, what a multi boxer would say, man
So the march update will inform us that major updates are scheduled for June?
It would keep the score even but the fights would be beyond silly
Agreed. Combo fields could use a rework in general. In many cases what you lose in positioning or ability opportunity cost outweighs benefits.
Filling in that ridiculous lake is a quick and easy place to start
Since we all know score is mostly coverage and population why do people keep caring about it so much.
If I transfer to kaining do I get to talk kitten to maguuma too?
It takes a couple of minutes to run anywhere on the map. That can hardly be an excuse for not addressing rezzing.
Score doesent say anything about how good you are~~~
I think Ive hit a record for posts deleted in one day
There are quite a few builds that will destroy thieves 1v1 but just like 100b warriors they are a pub stomp class.
Now in group combat good thieves that can count stun breaks and deliver are brutal.
The confusion epidemic is fun but the 5 man ae limit hurts and you have to have thieves around to stomp in many cases which doesent leave a lot of room for eles which are really the backbone of 5 man groups. With a 10 person group I can see it becoming much more attractive.
The problem with necros is they lack the wilsons. Give that class 1 teleport stunbreak and it would fix so many problems. I may even play mine again.
Have you noticed how they pour out of the most mundane, out of the way keeps when you get near one?
Too much talk about being nice. But I’ve got some good news. I’m going to be doing wvw more, which means posting more. I’ll see if I can’t get this thread back into shape for the pride of Maguuma.
Maguuma pride = insulting everybody and talking trash?
P much
I was going to say I’d enjoy a nice 3v3 but then I heard something about 20v20…
OINK
Duels should never be bigger than 5v5 (most are 1v1). If anyone wants to fight on a scale bigger than 5v5, isn’t that what the rest of WvW is for? Duels are intended to be small scale to avoid the general zerging of WvW, and to avoid the massive flaws in sPvP. But more so to work on your own individual skills.
If you insist on having “duels” bigger than 5v5, just take your group around WvW and practice against other big groups you come across. For example, WäR had a lot of fun fighting the larger [WM] guild in Eternal Battleground on reset day. Sure conditions weren’t always perfect for either side, but I’d go out on a limb and say both guilds are totally fine with that.
No that’s what I’m saying. I can’t believe anyone would even bring it up
They keep infracting me and deleting my awesome, totally not baiting, posts!
I think it means I don’t give a kitten about scores or something
I was going to say I’d enjoy a nice 3v3 but then I heard something about 20v20…

Actually its just a way to hide that you lost so it doesent hurt anyones casual ego. Its a dumb system that caters to numbers above all and needs to be changed. If that means reducing burst ability so be it.
I think drastic changes to down state / rally system may be enough in itself enhance skillful play. That has to be the number 1 crutch of zergs atm.
And when people copy DAoC why do they keep copying the wrong parts…
I noticed the other day that I always just assumed the rally system would be “fixed”. By that I mean random mobs would no longer grant rallies and perhaps some other changes to the more unfair aspects of the system.
As more patches pass by without any changes Im starting to question this. Anet may be perfectly happy with things as they are.
Which is it?
You should just beeline for AoN wherever they are
Hah! Ive only seen a few of them (it really is hard for small groups to find each other). Usually we just wave and go on because numbers are never even.
The 30 man lawnmowers are turrible. Gonna be another head on a swivel week.
Have to admit Im coming from a wvw perspective but its good to see that the 2 hardest classes are the ones I had in mind.
So does Kaineng have many roamers/duelers?
Not really anymore. We’re out there though if you look hard enough.
Only Kaineng I saw out doing 5man was WM and some people from Team OP (or something like that). It’s hard to run across them due to the overall population of Kaineng though.
Is this week going to suck as bad as I imagine?
Thanks caed. What do you consider classes/builds a crit thief has a hard time dealing with?
I struggle with some things and wonder if its me or a rock/pepper/scissors deal
Well this should be interesting*
*zergy
Our 5 had a blast in WvW tonight, didn’t realize how much more fun it is than sPvP at times! OG and TLP had some great groups out, outnumbered us in their 8 – 10 man zergs, but we handled them pretty well and pulled out victory after victory during every engagement. Couple fights on the center island got hairy at times, but we stuck together and pulled off some great 5 v 8 and 5 v 10s against you guys! Great players! Just don’t disappear so quickly mates! So many thieves you guys have, hard to keep track of where you are going or coming from!
I honestly don’t remember any 5 man fight on the island yesterday. Were were only there for a thin minute before rolling up to splendans. What guild are you?
I also don’t remember running more than a trio, dieing, or seeing any OG.
