This is frustrating as a shatter mesmer. dodging into someone for instant dps or daze is important and often times clones get out of position.
20 people is a zerg.

I would run pure shatter all the way, no phantasms.
Its been my experience that if people waste time chasing the mesmer around they get dropped. Too many stun breaks and stealth. The vulnerability would be to stray condi spam or something like a perplexity engi getting a lucky shot. youre forced to rely on others for condition clenses.
In the setup I posted a while back the shatter mez is your spike DPS and boon strip. A male train won’t put out big damage but they force stunbreaks and soak damage/attention.
Power/well necros are some nut balls damage but it takes a village to keep them up. I see them more viable in the 10-15 person group range but who wants to run that nonsense.

And for deathmatch
Back when we ran 5 guard, guard, war, mez, engi worked best for us. Tons of stability and blasting the engi water field is a full group heal.
its a shame well never really know due to 5v5 never ever being a thing. I can count the number of 5v5s we had against skilled people on one hand. It sucks too because its some of the best fun ive had since daoc.
If you did like me bought the cheapest stuff first you only have accessories and backpack left. Guess what you can’t buy with badges.
Go read cottage pies initial statement. He said they would never do it because everyone has thousands on badges bankrolled and it would be too easy to insta buy everything.

I would highly suggest torch offhand for a wvw build. Sure the phantasm sucks but when fighting outnumbered the more stealth the better. Also, better players avoid the sword swap very easily making it hard to set up burst. Opening from stealth and right on top of them is hard to avoid.
For anyone that would enjoy this environment but doesent have a full guild, dont let that stop you. Were all pretty nice people and wouldent have a problem puging people when we have open spots. Also, its not all 5v5, theres a lot of solo/duo/trio stuff going on.
Bunker specs are different because they are ~~~useful~~~ in the meta. Phantasm specs have no place and are basically a 1v1 troll build.
No ones saying nerf phantasms, they are saying nerf the phantasm build probably by turning key traits into something more useful outside of dueling.
The new thief s/d build is another example of something that probably won’t make into competitive play but is stupid good 1v1
Phantasm build is an example of poor design. Its completely op 1v1 but has no place in spvp meta or wvw team fights.
The 1v1 ability needs to be reduced and at the same time tools given to make phantasms viable in a group or tourney setting.

If you think about it its amazing any company developed even half decent PvP. Its incredibly difficult to design and you can only do it if you’ve played at a high level and given it some serious thought.
Developers are not hired based on their ability to play but on experience, education and coding skills. They may have never pvpd at all and from that perspective its akin to taking some random guy from LA and putting him in charge

We’ve been absent the past half a week but should be out soon. One guy had some some family issues to attend to and we are retooling our group a little.
Deffinately a humbling experience being in this environment. Were having to have a lot more conversations about group set up and strategy which is definitely a good thing.
Outside this tier you can roll up with 5 whatever and roll all night long. not so anymore.

If you’re into competitive fights I don’t know why you would stay above tier 4.
Hell, you could have a whole solo community with the same tag we all agree not to zerg.
Tier 6 was noticibly less zergy. The players were also without question the worst I’ve ever seen. I suspect we are all in tier 7 due to coverage and despite having larger primetime populations.
There is starting to be a very noticible pattern of devs posting wrong info with regards to these types of things. It really takes 30 seconds to test if its a floater issue.

tsk tskYa it was pretty fail. I was trying out a new mantra healing build with some clerics gear…and man was it bad. Poor waff.
I try to do some things occasionally that are not power shatter. It usually lasts about a day if i even make it our of mists testing.
Drama that I’m not involved in. This is new.

Daoc also didn’t have any gap closing abilities like all mele in gw2 do. Not saying its gonna be imbalanced just pointing that out

I am just imagining the following:
The maps are evenly split, everyone “owns” their respective third of the map, everyone “owns” their borderland.
Every tower and keep got all their walls and gates trebbed down, no1 bothers about repairing and players are just dancing around the ruins, which once were perfectly defensible positions, trying to kill eachother.

All that crap still goes on and its fine with us. We may not like sieging/keep taking but I’mglad its there so we can farm the people who do like it.
Open world is free flowing. An ideal night involves a good amount of both zerg busting and 5v5.

Its a strange feeling to have actual competition. You guys already have us rethinking group setup and cutting out some bad habits weve developed because no one was around to make us stop.

I don’t really care where you guys go, just don’t bring that kittenty elitist attitude that often comes with roaming groups. No one in this thread seems to be like that, but T8 is a nice place full of rainbows, magic, and love. I enjoy it so don’t kitten it up!

Mist forming through doors is obviously skill and adds a level of strategy to the game. If you don’t want him to mist form in don’t kill him so close to a door
I’m fine going to tier 8, but I’d hate to leave the adqqsty guys out. That’s going to be a big chunk of the population.
2 choices really
T8- lower population but cheaper/more stable
Wherever Dr is- higher population but more expensive to maintain matchups
You’re right, I’m convinced, pve rallying is the epitome of fun and fairness in PvP. How could I have been so blind.
If you’re fighting someone in the same ballpark as you skill wise and you spend time killing an NPC you’re going to get tooled.
2 people plus a mob…advantage to whoever gets downed first. Nothing like a free 50% heal. Its cheese sandwich and the only reason I can guess people arguing for it is because you need it to beat people.
Rallying from pve is creatures should stay it adds a element. If we down a thief and people a Dps we say in comma make sure to not kill the Moa. It’s like fighting a p/d condi thief around mobs , or a Mesmer underwater, it’s small but it adds a bit of variety to it. Next is remove terrain and make everything flat so it’s just people vs people open field battles?

As the zergs you are killing grow in numbers you eventually hit a point where people come back from the dead faster than you can stomp the next guy. This gives a distinct feeling of winning but making no progress. Its not just fighting a zerg, its fighting a zerg and a time limit where you have to kill so many people per minute or you eventually get overwhelmed.
We believe there is some room for improvement in the way that downed works in WvW. That being said we haven’t settled on a version that we think doesn’t create more problems than it solves. Rest assured we are looking at the way it works and as soon as we can, we will improve it.
Thanks for the acknowledgement. One thing that would immediately go a long way is removing:
1. Pve creatures rallying people
2. Guy from realm 1 kills guy from realm 2 which rallies guy from realm 3

Fate has smiled upon us. Word is that DR will be dropping to tier 7 today to replace SF. That puts us against paxa and kom naturally. Hopefully this will be a stable engaugement., then we fill the third server with whoever else wants in.
As has been mentioned, if gold is an issue for you we can help
after thinking about it some more, devonas rest has a side covered. I think we should throw groups into the other two servers and pay for transfers if things shake up. Ive got no problem helping people move around.
