I agree. Mag’s oceanic and SEA timezone is so absent that we were +600 even before I could log on at about 7:30PM Sydney time. Wasn’t much left to do except chase the odd supply camp to try and get to +695.

lol indeed correct you can be t2 based on oceanic alone. it just makes for a terrible week as a server fights with its stongest time against its opponents weakest.

SoS has excellent NA guilds, as well as great EU and SEA people. We have not made “T2” based solely on our oceanic timezone.

If Mags indeed gets to gold league, they’ll have plenty if chances to take down SoS. We’ll be seeing a lot of each other.

That’s the way they would probably do it if they were going straight into a season 2 of leagues. But from what they have said they are going to look at how the league plays out and decide what to do after the seven weeks.

Yes – but I don’t think they have worked out what they are doing after that.

The leagues are going to have the 5/3/1 scoring so rating will be meaningless (assuming they have a pre-determined and not a ranked/random draw for the league matchups to ensure each server plays every other).

They might keep internal ratings measured to determine matchups after leagues finish (if there is no season 2). If there is a season 2 of league as they are running it now they will need to tell us how servers will move between tiers – good example is if (on current form) TC/SoS/Mags finish bottom of gold and say FA/SBI/EB top of silver who would go up and who would go down.

Would be nice to hear from Anet on some details (I would especially like the matchmaking for the leagues over next seven weeks).

Said it before but I’d love a Mag, SoS, SBI match-up. A shame instead we get these terribly lame leagues.

Personally I’m going to be disappointed with FA not in gold league. FA has some really strong oceanic guilds which I like playing against (Unreal Aussies is one I know), more than Mags or SBI. I remember one matchup especially a few weeks back with all the FA/TC/SoS oceanics out every night being pretty awesome.

MAG, TC and SBI are the new Tier 2.

They can all expect beating from each other and a real beating from Tier 1 in Gold league.

SoS will will be Tier 2.5 and really catch it on the chin.

As it stands right now, FA is probably better off in Silver.

Other than RQ(who bandwagonned to JQ) the majority of players and guilds that left FA went to smaller servers, looking for better non-blobby fights.

FA has lost and gain some in the past few weeks. The aggregate numbers are probably about the same…although our coverage has changed.

A lot of us wanted to stay in Gold so we could farm BG, SoR, JQ and TC…but it just wasn’t to be with SoS and SBI gaining glicko due to favorable rng matchups.

Uh, SoS has beaten Mag in every matchup and have only gained numbers since our last encounter.
FA-SoS-SBI-Mag make up the true Tier 2 class servers and TC is 1.5 (they have the numbers, but not the organization).

SoS hasn’t played MAG in 5 weeks.

Only three weeks ago FA beat SoS…now MAG is owning us.

I would guess that if you face MAG while facing a Tier 1, then your Oceanic/Sea will be nullified and Mag will beat you.

They may be able to beat you anyways…Time will tell.

FA SoS SBI and Mags are all really close and any could win against each other at depending on who else is in the matchup, real-life events and so on.

Last time FA finished ahead of SoS by about 3K, and this time I think SoS will finish ahead of SBI by about the same. But that type of margin is pretty meaningless really.

SoS has managed to deal with the SoR oceanic time (and NA as well) pretty OK. It will be interesting to see how Mags handles the “T1” NA.

Sure Mags could beat us. But they can’t do it by talking about it. As stated above Mags has NEVER finished ahead of SoS in ANY matchup since the game started. I am looking forward to the time when that happens.

For the current incarnation of SBI I can understand the current matchup against SoR is a change from what they have been experiencing. I reckon coverage in those top servers is way more compared to those weeks when SBI and SoS was up in T1 last year.

FA especially and SoS and Mag to some extent have spent a lot of weeks playing against the top few ranked servers especially TC and occasionally SoR or JQ so I suppose players on those servers know what to expect a bit more. So I can see that for the first league season probably SBI in the “silver” league might be better for the building of that server. I think SoS and Mags might end up best suited to gold just from where the community on their servers are at the moment.

Well yeah, but getting pwned by SoR doesn’t mean SoS isn’t good. It just means SoR is insane right now. SoR can do that to pretty much any server during that time zone with the exception of JQ.

Apologies if you think SoS only getting as high as about +250 ppt against SoR during oceanic time last night isn’t any good. I am sure any of the other 22 NA servers could do a better job.

15 points separate rating between these four servers and the order keeps switching between them. 0.1 of a rating difference between Mags and FA.

It could still be like this Friday night. And in a weird way CD partly controls who ends up in gold/silver league – if they switch off rest of week then both Mags and FA would pull back rating and move over SBI and SoS.

But then it really might depend on which server wants the poisoned chalice excitement of being up in gold league most.

SoS’s rating would stay ahead of SBI’s if we finish ahead of them. It would then depend on how high the rating is for the winner of FA/Mag. But it could even be FA and Mag move ahead of both SoS/SBI.

So… I reckon we won’t know for a few days yet.

Leagues seem like a bad idea when the outcome is clear to begin with. .

WvW can throw up some surprises. I don’t think you can confidently predict anything. Even this thread started with trying to determine whether it would be SoS/Mag as last place in Gold League, now it is about which of the four servers taking last two places.

Personally I think that whoever gets to face off against JQ/SoR/BG will be fine. Pretty much we’ve all been through it before. I think there are other servers much more likely to “implode” before SoS/FA/Mags or SBI. Lately we have seen guilds transferring INTO these servers really because of the strength of the communities there.

But again I wouldn’t dare to predict anything.

The fight for Gold League is getting really interesting. It seems like FA might fall down to silver league with two servers of Mag/SoS/SBI going up into gold league. It really comes down to the matchup this week. If any of the above servers face up against FA, they will take FA’s rating and be guaranteed a spot in Gold.

It all depends on which server gets matched with FA/SoS/SBI/Mag from outside of T1/T2/T3. If any server gets matched with BP/EB/DB/CD and loses rating its over for them.

Yes my guess it could be any two of SoS/FA/Mags/SBI. SBI is still about 50 points behind SoS/FA in rating so may not quite make it. An SoS/SBI matchup next week would be fun.

It is actually shames that those four servers are going to be separated during the league.

IoJ is very high population and has had some large WvW guilds move to it recently so not sure what you are looking for that IoJ doesn’t already have.

But if you want a change (and want to have some experience in “T1” which everyone should try sometime I suppose) go to world recruitment forum page (where this should be posted anyway). Most servers have a recruitment thread up there.

Yes seems to be free transfer to medium population worlds, 800 gems to high. At the moment no NA servers are listed as medium but a whole bunch like EBay and borlis are high – don’t know if they ever drop to medium.

There is nothing about skill here. It’s facing a server with A LOT more people than you 7 weeks in a row that is very very dull.

The problem with tier 2 isn’t just numbers,

“T2” doesn’t have a problem. Being matched against the bloated numbers from JQ etc. is a problem.

I would love nothing more than for a server like SBI to come through the middle and beat JQ (especially), BG, SoR, and take care of Mags along the way. If you remember it happened before…

I agree with this. I have been surprised and disappointed to see guilds who have been on what were T2 servers move to JQ/BG. Sure that servers like Mags and SoS and IoJ still have a resilience and enthusiasm there, but they haven’t been playing against those “T1” servers for most of the last months as TC/FA and DB have.

As players on FA especially, as well as JQ and SoS, have commented in the current matchup thread, the extra players that have joined JQ in the last weeks has meant the disparity between JQ, the #3 ranked server and FA, #5 ranked server make WvW not fun for either side.

Pretty sure the maths works out, it means that the old permutation of JQ/BG/SoR is just as unlikely to pop up as the old TC/FA/SoS matchup. The results going to be pretty predictable imo if the old T2 servers get matched up with the old T1 servers, won’t exactly be as bad a blowout as SoR vs Anvil rock but yeah expect a lot of blowout rounds.

Mag is now contending SoS for the last spot in the gold league at +0.73 points. Last time i posted it was -9.80 points. Thing are getting exciting.

There are two weeks of matchups after this before leagues start. I wouldn’t get too excited just yet.

Some of the problems I really am not sure how they are easily fixed. Some of them like bloodlust thing I think are a bit of a non-issue that they are modifying anyway.

I guess the league is an attempt to stop the movement up to JQ/BG/SoR but at the moment it seems to have made it worse – certainly impacted negatively on the morale of players on other servers and seems to have caused a real crankiness towards those three servers.

I am hoping that the silver/bronze leagues and awards gained from them will look attractive enough compared with the negatives of being on super-stacked servers it might make a difference. I can see Anet considering something fairly drastic though if this doesn’t work and they see it as a continuing issue.

I think this really is a bit of a non-discussion. Whoever gets most ratings gain/loss in next two weeks depends entirely on who each server meets as it always does.

No server is going to throw matches and i can’t see how you could possibly manage that. Any attempt would likely cause guilds to leave in droves.

This week Individual payers might look at a JQ zerg and decide it is all a bit hard, but certainly I didn’t see much of that last night from either SoS or FA. JQ was pretty much outplayed in oceanic time.

In an SoS Mag SBI matchup most likely SoS would win and SBI would gain the most rating at the expense of both SoS and Mag. But chance of that matchup happening is pretty remote. And it doesn’t mean much anyway. All three servers have good players. Just coverage is different on each.

I agree with sentiment that we should just play normally and see what happens. If players on Mag want to put in 12 hours session it is their call but I ain’t doing it.

And I think season 2 of league, if it happens, is going to work differently anyway.

The problem started at launch when they promised us guesting and it did not arrive so Anet had to give us free world transfers so those who just picked a random open world assuming they could just guest with the rest of their friends for PVE. Would this problem exist without the long period of free transfers, yes probably(If you only wvw making gold to transfer is not that easy. Forcing people who wanted to transfer to grind out the other content or buy gems.) but Anets failure to deliver everything they promised at launch burned any chance wvw had of being relavant in its bed pretty much at the start. I haven’t migrated to a top tier server, but I can see why it is tempting. It’s no fun to be constantly losing due to things that you have no control over. And what is the incentive to stay in a place you keep getting stomped at? You can pat yourself on the back and tell yourself you are doing the “right” thing for only so long.

Well JQ/SoR/BG aren’t guaranteed of wins when they play each other. When they play against anyone ranked from 4 down they win by 150K which isn’t fun. They complain of queues and skill lag.

Personally I don’t see the attraction.

If they did listen to us, it’s only because of drastically declining WvW numbers (as stated in Devon’s infamous alpha forum post).

To head it off at the pass, there have not been drastically declining WvW numbers, or even marginally declining numbers. WvW continues to be as strong as it has been over the past several months. We made some decisions internally and were able to accommodate changes that it didn’t seem feasibly originally and that’s why the changes that are going to be announced later this week happened.

I can pull numbers out of my rear end as well, doesn’t make them true.

Yes I am sure Anet might have a better idea than a player who might be on for a few hours in their timezone on one server.

Gotta say despite the panic I haven’t seen too much evidence of heaps of guilds rushing to SoR/BG/JQ from lower rated servers. Yes there seems to be extra movement at the moment but not just up to those top three ranked servers (despite their recruitment efforts) – some guilds are moving out of them, as well as between other servers. I am curious to see what happens in the next week.

And how come EU seem to be more relaxed about all of this? Makes we want to shift SoS over to EU matchups.

Each server (in NA) will play against each other at least once. But you will need to play against three of them twice (work it out) over the seven weeks.

JQ could have the misfortune to cop SoR and BG twice.

When the league starts there will be no tiers. Glicko rating will disappear. Everyone will start on 0 points. Depending on the draw it is possible (even probable) that the current top three ranked servers aren’t going to finish as the top three.

We have to change the way we are thinking about this.

Just saw Blackgate, “ranked tier 1 in North American WvW”, has put up a recruitment thread.

I am sure luring guilds from lower ranked servers (let’s say Borlis Pass) will make for fun gameplay when Blackgate plays against Borlis Pass. BG will need all the help they can get to be +695 24/7.

Some NA people still haven’t realised that especially after league starts there will be no such thing as T1 anymore and JQ/SoR/BG will rarely be playing each other.

Close battles are much more fun than final score or winning any league.

All I saw was a QQ. BG has not ticked 695 in a looonnggg time, whereas, SoS did almost every day of last week. Hypocrisy much?

Why does everything have to be about SOS for you?

Because SoS QQs about destacking when it did just that a few months ago. When you balance tier 3 by sending your oceanics to anvil rock, i will consider destacking.

Not sure your point? We did destack as did IoJ and one of the positives was it spread the oceanics around. At least half a dozen servers now have a significant oceanic presence. Led directly to BG and SoR doing as well as they have been.

Everything changes in two weeks. There will be no more tiers. BG will be playing against servers ranked 11 and 12. Interesting to see reactions of the players in what will be unchallenging matchups for them for most of the seven weeks.

THey are sort of doing this but on the scale of the leagues – winners of “silver” league will move up to gold league and bottom of gold league will move down for next season.

I could see playing NA there because you would always be in a target rich environment, but I haven’t encountered many on SoS that really seem like the type to appreciate that situation.

The server doesn’t have the population to be competitive at higher tiers, and they have this huge off hour population that never fights anyone because no one in these tiers has much of an off hour population.

Seems incredibly boring for the off hour folks.

I have the clock in GW2 set to local time so don’t even know what server time is as it is entirely irrelevant to me and how I play the game.

I just checked it though and it is set to US west coast time? NA has about five time zones I believe? It is 3:19 PM in Anchorage, and 7:19 PM in New York. Sydney it s 9:19AM in the morning (nice day outside too). So really those playing east coast NA are as much non-prime-time people as they are “off-hour”?
