Dungeons made boring.. By the community?

I agree with OP, but would like to express that most of the dungeons are bugged, and some are outright uninspiring.

AC: Stacking on spider queen is just… ridiculous. However, the Kholer fight is by far the best and I never skip it. Path 1 has bugs like a door that traps you inside when players need to protect npc, path 3 has an unresponsive npc that forgets to put his shield on time, and a boss that knocks you out of that shield constantly, path 2 ghost eater is just a mess and most people don’t even do it.

CM: Ugly… just plain ugly. Mobs have so much bleed stacking attacks is not even funny. Some super duper elite players will tell me to get condition removal, and YES I already have it, and I don’t fail the dungeon at all but seriously their damage is insane. Plus they have large health pools as well.

TA: Another ugly one. Spiders with ridiculous health pools, uninspiring dungeon design with few clever mechanics, and some of the last boss fights in the paths are just terrible.

COE: Perhaps the best dungeon in the game, mostly balance except for that one champion abomination people skip with good reason. The dungeon could use some retouching to make it look more impressive…

COF: This one is actually good, except path 1 is too short and embarrassingly anticlimactic. I particularly love path 3, the last boss is very fun for me.

HOTW: Uggggggh. these mobs wont die, and path 3 is just bad. Please just someone kill this dungeon. Path 1 is alright I guess.

SE: Path 1 is pretty easy, but this entire dungeon feels boring in the sense of design, mechanics and a chore to kill mobs that have immense health pools.

Arah: I love the design of this dungeon, but some paths are just frustrating. Its not as bad kitten though. They need to revise this a bit more.

Have you guys noticed the pets are actually WORSE than ever before? A while back, cats used to hit pretty hard, and now they are just hit like a wet toilet paper towel on most cases. Don’t even think of using bears to do damage, although they did improve their HP. Before, pets could REVIVE a dead comrade, and now they only heal a down player. Im not sure about pet being smarter now than before though…

Pretty much the only thing of high caliber in terms of artistic approach (on the scarlet introduction) is the monster themselves. I really love those robots…

A bit rushed i think. There are a few errors in the cutscene when she interrupts the Queen’s speech:

1- Voice work did not have any lip sync, at all…
2- The camera cuts were all over the place, and the angles weren’t so great…
3- The change between in-game graphics and the illustrated artwork was weird…
4- Scarlet is standing on some sort of transparent floor? Couldn’t she be maybe holding unto a rope from a ship above or something more creative?
5- All of the sudden, all of Tyria is under attack? and story wise… when did she took over those mechanical robots and made them evil?

I’m not sure if this is a result of the short time developers have to work on these, but it does feels rushed. Anet needs more time to work on these things, eventually they will get better but maybe focusing on the core aspects of the game rather than living story would have helped the game developers have more time to insert these mini expansions without errors of glitches, but with better class balances, improved AI, improved interface design, improved system to allow the game to use more cores of computers and much more.

Just my two cents, thanks Anet.

The Azureflame and Aether bows are dislocated when the player puts them on their back. It looks awful and seems like a simple fix.

Why do you willingly subject yourself to terrible public groups and complain about it?

Arah P4 is 45 minutes or so with a well put-together and knowledgeable team, and not particularly difficult at all, but the reward for it seems inadequate because it takes pugs 2-3 hours? Heh, there’s no wrapping my head around that.

Similarly, P1 may take only 25 minutes.

My advice: find a proper dungeon guild and stop torturing yourself. The new rewards are plenty and it only seems disproportionate in regards to input:ouput for people refusing to better themselves as players, or to surround themselves by better players.

It seems to me that you are perfectly fine with how the dungeons are now. But honestly, not all think this way, and are entitled to speak their minds.

I have done all dungeons (dungeon master title) and have little problems finishing arah, however most can say the dungeons have a ton of issues at the moment. Simmin is just one huge disaster, some teams can do it but it is still a DPS check. So many mobs in odd locations with so many champions and little reward…

Same with Cadecaus, its properly difficult with some teams but the mobs there have so much health is gross. Dont even get started with HOTW path 3, thats just… ugg. I did it with my guild, no wipes but took forever with boring bosses that swallow damage like a sponge and never die.

I drew the staff as close as i could to what you wanted without crossing the line in color (it is a black with gray shades image). PM me if you would like something changed. I’m a graphic artist and web developer who is also passionate about video games. I also happen to be a indie game developer.

Reason:
I am planning on getting my second legendary, the dreamer. It’s an expensive endeavor, therefore I would like to gather gold without having to farm.

Specialty:
I draw anime in general, and I am willing to draw your character with whatever armor/weapon you desire. See below for the prices of my work. It might be a bit pricy (I apologize for that) however it takes time and effort to get the images to look right.

Sketches (with a shadowy grey color style)
Waist up: 10G, 2 day turn-around.
Full Body: 20G, 3 day turn-around.

Chest and up: 40G, 3 day turn-around.
Full body: 70G, 1 week turn-around.

I have currently 4 slots open. Whoever calls out first will be the first to be worked on.

To get your character drawn out, please send me a forum mail with your in-game name, and screenshots of your character (in various positions). Once I have received it, I will send you an email with a confirmation that I have received your request, a time frame and/or questions.

Once this is done, the payment for the artwork must be sent in gold in-game. Once I have received it, I will begin to work on your design right away. This illustration can be used as a desktop image, and will be quite large, so that you can do with it as you please. Only that my signature will be on all designs. See below for a sample of my work. yes coz it should be 2 – a precursor used on land and a precursor used underwater, and 500g.

What you mean only two precursors and 500G?

I should have all the mats needed to make my Legendaries as well.

Whatever dude. They are forcing me to craft to have my legendary, and forcing me to explore the map and forcing me to PvP.

I think it’s fair that every account deserves a legendary upon log-in.

Hi everyone,

I never really said I cannot defeat him. Hell, so far I have dungeon mastery and I can take care of this guy. The problem that I NOTICED is the short bow range. The short bow had a great range so that you can fire it at a safe distance, although not as far as the long bow but still safe.

YES, I used GS to block and gain distance with swoop, YES I used the pet to tank, YES it was a bear, YES YES YES I know all of your tips guys. But the problem is the shortbow has received an undesired, unwanted, uncalled for nerf that makes rangers even less desireable. Im sticking with the ranger, but now everytime I use my shortbow I fell like Im getting stabbed in the heart.

Just sharing my two cents with the internet.

Just to clear things up: Skipping mobs in some cases works. Skipping mobs is not an exploit exactly, but bringing a boss to a stair so that it can no longer fight the players, or bringing spiderqueen to a corner and glitch her out, etc. Thats just methods that I cant agree with. However, everyone is free to play the way they want to.

Oh and Ethics, I expressed my opinion and you call me ignorant? Play as you wish, but the OP is expressing his thoughts about the current mentality of dungeon runners. I myself had terrible experiences with pugs that just want to skip everything, and then turning into a disaster and a waste of time.

I believe the same as you, and there are many that believe the same. You are not alone.

I’ll give you an example: The other day I decided to go on an AC run for my daily, none of my guild mates were logged in at the time. I went with a random group on LFG and well, they decided to stack on spider queen. I told them its ridiculous to stack on such easy boss, but they all disagreed and basically threaten me to get kicked if I didnt follow. I just went in for the amusement (I really didnt care about getting kicked at that point). Turns out spider queen slaughter them all, and I ran for my dear life when I saw things blow to hell. I got kicked almost instantly (although I did stacked).

From that moment on, I knew I would NEVER run with a random group, instead I would make a group myself on LFG with the rules of playing the game THE WAY IS SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYED. Man, I found myself a group after that and we slapped spider queen like trash, killed kholer while laughing, and no wipes, downs or anything like that. So much fun.

I was using my ranger yesterday for a run in arah path 4 (only dungeon Im missing for my dungeon master title) and I dared to use my short-bow/greatsword. I know the lack of range for the short-bow was bad but it became awfully apparent when battling against lupicus. I just couldn’t hit him from a safe distance, forcing me to close up the gap and face the awful danger, and my cat pets dealing basically no meaningful damage. Long bow was a no no, due to the fact that it has no evades.

I URGE the devs to play more often in open pve before nerfing the range of the ranger, before nerfing the damage of the pet. Rangers are just not viable COMPARED to the best of classes.

Im pretty sure some wise-guy will say Im playing ranger wrong, and although I was the last to survive the fight, I wasn’t able to contribute much to the team other than count as another target for bosses like lupi.

I dont think you have the right to tell 90% of all rangers in this forum that we are all having some delusional dream that the ranger class is in serious need of work. Dont try to tell me that Im using the class wrong either. Its very impolite.

Huh?! Can you please let me know what game are you playing? it cant be GW2. About heals, thats about the only thing we can do right. Pets only revive down players (if you didn’t know), which is very situational. Before it was by far more useful when the pet was able to revive dead players while I kited a boss. I wonder how many people now actually use that skill?

Used to… and only in spvp. PVE is a different story, as the pet is dead most of the time with just one punch in the face. If you want to use a bear, their damage cannot compare to birds or cats.

Not sure what you are trying to say here. Please explain how we can be as efficient if not so more than what other classes can already provide for a fraction of our investment.

What makes you think we all just auto attack? Do our complaints and worries say -OMG we cant beat this guy while we are auto attacking?- Our problems are not about auto attack, although even that is about 70-60% of the total damage of our class, while the rest falls on a dead pet. Im sure many are happy with the rangers as they are, and to you guys “Enjoy”, but many of us want more out of our class, and to provide solid support/damage in dungeons and other activities in the game.

As skilled as I am as a ranger (want to prove it? duel me in pvp or take me to a dungeon run) I cant but help realize just how inefficient it is at many things, only when compared to all the other classes.

Anyone whom assumes that rangers suck deserve to be burned alive. Rangers are what you make of us. We are meant for soloing, we can do things that other classes can’t, such as tanking a boss and having your pet dps him, or quickly switching to a pet whom is generally good and using him to tank while you quickly condition. Whatever you want to do as a ranger is possible.

What other class is able to attack while healing or resing an ally?

For how long have you been using a ranger? LOL

Mr. Colin, can you verify that there will be improvements to the ranger class as a whole? we are hurting badly over there and feel largely ignored. As a matter of fact, can you confirm that all classes are being treated equally?

Also, can you let us know if dungeon feedback from the forums would affect the final state of the new and improved dungeons? some of these dungeons are extremely annoying with mobs with large health pools (but little to no mechanics), instant kill skills that make no sense, and because of the class differences and DPS check system in most dungeons, some classes are just not viable!

This is also very important! We need to know if they are taking into consideration the players voice here in the forums. i agree we can become somewhat violent but Im sure that they knew how players would react to changes way before they even got the job.

Here is a list of things to discuss, although the time you have available to represent rangers may or may not allow you to fully elaborate in them:

1- Ranger short bow nerf: what were the reasons to have nerfed an otherwise good weapon, and will they return it to it’s previous glory?

2- Pet damage nerfs, usefulness of the pets, pet ai and pet issues in dungeons: The damage of the pets were not compensated by adding the damage to the ranger. it was an overall damage reduction to the ranger class as a whole. Some pets have now almost no use, like moa’s who were also unexplainably nerfed (did they ever hit hard in the first place?). The pet ai is as bad as ever, plus some pets just dont work (pigs’ stability just doesnt work). Will they ever evolve it to be a true partner or just change the pet concept to be a buff npc instead of sharing our damage? And pets in dungeons, they just don’t survive or provide enough damage/support to contribute to the team.

3- Ranger long bow: the improved speed is nice, but will they add better reasons to use a long bow, increase it’s damage and give it skills that can keep a target at max range?

4- Ranger traits and balance: These have been shuffled a lot, but compared to other classes it seems we need to invest so much more for abilities we used to have by default. Compared to other classes, we have benefitted the least from these changes. There are traits that, during the concept of battle, are strange and even unworthy. Healing spring on down, spike trap when reviving an ally, etc…

5- What direction will rangers take in the future? What do they envision us doing and their true opinions about the ranger’s current state. Are we the archers they hoped we would be? The ranger community is confused about the direction we are currently going at. We don’t provide much help in dungeons that other classes cannot do better. We are currently no longer the long distance killers we thought we would be and our damage compared to all classes is not impressive.

6- Have they ever considered on just re-imagining the ranger: a possibility of scrapping the current ranger and creating a new ranger class from ground up. This seems to be a solution to having a true long distance fighter without the current limitations.

This is where we will not agree. I don’t think I’ll have to make do with this change …

I meant that I would be making do with it as it currently stands, not as it will be changed in the future. But I’ll be making do with it as it changes in the future as well since they are mostly out of our hands. There was plenty of complaining about the range reduction before the patch came out in the ranger forum as well.

It would be logical that shortbow range is 900, but the same logic would tell me that throwing grenades should have a range of 600.

Unless it happens to be an engineer that can create some sort of device that nearly triples its throwing ability.

Are you really that happy about our changes? can you honestly say that rangers are in a great position and have amazing build varieties?

Bows actually got buffed…

Shortbow used to be ‘only the auto-attack is good for damage’ now all of the skills are.
Longbows got faster.

What’s changed is how you use them. No more sitting in the back on auto-attack while your pet plays the game for you.

The pet got nerfed down to being about as useful as a single Engineer Turret, only mobile and easier to swap with an alternating turret. In short, we now have a turret with fur.

Now you have to play the game, and not have your pet play for you.

Hunter class got deleted, ranger is just fine.

I do play a melee ranger, but the patch almost makes it worth considering going shortbow… Only so-called nerf to shortbow was a move to medium ranged – and that’s really a buff in bringing you closer to the action. In places like WvW, this means more ability to get benefit from nearby group boons, as well as buff your allies with traits like Spotter.

Damage improvement on the shortbow? you mean damage improvement on the skills of the shortbow, not overall damage. And it was definitely a nerf when a viable build is nerfed to make others look good. It almost sounds as if you don’t main a ranger, since you don’t recognize the issues the ranger class got in this patch.

I have been hearing that the new dungeon, albeit really cool, is a nightmare for rangers because there is a lot of AOE’s and pets are constantly fried during battle. I haven’t done it yet (logged in yesterday to do daily only, logged off right away).

Anyone having trouble in the new dungeon? Hopefully Anet can check this also and see how terrible it is to have the pet dead 90% of the time.

Feel free to test and confirm the bug in the topic and report it by using /bug in-game.

It wouldn’t surprise me if it’s still working like the old Spirit Knowledge trait, but I can’t be bothered to check.

It doesnt remove the condition on roll? This trait is working as intended.

TL:DR This post is mostly about roaming/havoc in www after the patch and the raised points don’t apply to PvE. I know we got it bad in dungeons.  I try to bring up some suggestions in a constructive manner and I wish that we can have a proper conversation going. I’m posting this on a cell so I can’t link the build, gear or even stats for further info of my setup. I understand the info would be useful for the readers as my suggestions are based on it. I will update later on if the thread picks up. 
Please share your (post-patch) experiences in www and suggestions how the class should be evolving or what fixes are needed to make it more viable/appealing/fun to play.

I was as shocked as the majority of the ranger community when the patch went live. The leaked notes seemed quite horrible as it was quite evident that the changes would not promote build diversity in any way. If something I predicted that if they were true we’d be pidgeonholed even more into bunkers and BM.  Well they went live and … the sky didn’t fall. Yes the changes were disheartening and reduced our (non-BM) pets uses to basically cc (a really unreliable cc if I may add). LB is still unresponsive, clunky and generally no fun to play with. Lowered range on SB forces us to overcommit in pvp/www as I now find myself hovering between PB and 500 range. After the changes I can’t dictate the range and control the fight nearly as much as I grew accustomed with.

All that being said I find myself performing nearly as good as pre-patch with only minor tweaks to my build. Granted I don’t run BM but a 30/10/30/0/0 hybrid with a wide spread of stats (GS/SB). It works wonders for me but is heavily dependant on movement and proper timing. I do miss the 1200 range on SB and that’s my biggest gripe when it comes to the patch (ofc as that and the pet dmg nerf were the changes that had the biggest impact on my preferred build and play style – it’s all about the perspective). All in all I enjoyed a  nice long stroll yesterday in friendly and hostile  BLs resulting in over 40 solo kills (1v1s,1v2s and one occasion of 1v3). Sure enough I got stomped a few times but the patch had absolutely nothing to do with it – I was outmanned and/or outplayed every single time. Also quite a few managed to leg it due to the reduced range on SB – no amount of swooping, (oor) cripples and swiftness could prevent them from getting away.

My suggestions based on my observations are:

1) SB range should be adjusted
Okay I can roll with the argument of realism on this one (that means I’m willing to accept that facetanking a dozen hammerblows from an aggravated hello kitty gone bad is also realistic as are magic, loldurgons and undead beings rising from the sea. The concept of realism doesn’t quite sit well in this context). I can see the reasoning behind the range nerf but on the same note I’d like to see the utilities on SB raised back to 1200. I’d settle for 4 and 5 even.

2) LB
I feel Anet went the wrong way with the changes. In order to promote the use of a neglected weapon Anet decided to nerf the preferred ranged weapon (SB) instead of addressing the issues with LB. The weapon is awkward, clunky and doesn’t offer the utility the class needs. Yes it should be fixed properly but I don’t have the answer how (I haven’t got enough experience on it as I have my LB gathering dust in one of my bags. Now I may need to equip it every now and then if I find myself defending tower/keep/SM in www). There have been some good suggestions on these very forums. Making the weapon feel more responsive, fluid even, would be a good start.

3) Pets
… That feeling when your pet misses a moving ambient critter. 

The pet AI is too unreliable, F2s are unresponsive and act all random. Add the tracking issues to this list and you have a companion that may or may not contribute some 15%ish of total DPS to the fight (I think that’s fair estimate for a non-BM pet). I suggest that Anet should either fix the AI or just give the pets bigger hit boxes and more responsive user controls. I know this is a work in process but in regards to the nerf this should have been resolved already.

All in all I wouldn’t say that the patch broke the rangers. However I can understand the frustration and disappointment in the ranger community as the patch failed to fix any of the major issues. Pet nerf may have been warranted but sadly it had the biggest impact on non-BM builds rendering ‘the other half’ of ranger from a potential threat into a mild annoyance (.. Annoying both the ranger and the opponent equally).

Excellent topic, although I disagree with making the SB have longer range on a few of it’s skills. It needs to go back to the old range.

Salutations folks! i cant tell you how excited i am with our changes! i have adapted my condi-gen313 and Faux’s new build and giving it the name Re-port331 (regen/support 0-0-30-30-10)

Besides changing around the build, i removed my settlers trinkets and went back to apothecary (all other armor/weps are settlers)
Im running Altruism Runes. ill post the actual build shortly but this is what it gives me

2100 toughness
20.5k hp
1500 condi dmg
1150 healing
40% cond duration (this is buffed with food and stuff)
25% boon duration

permanent Regen and Swiftness (with my traits my regen is always above 1min and that goes the the whole group!)

with the runes im able to give might and fury with my healing spring. Suddenly my ranger has the same damage ( sans the pet) and survivability except now im able to load the group up with amazing buffs!

now my pets while doing a little less damage..are lasting way longer because of using guard me.

my 7,8,9 are ltn rflx,guard,regen signet with entangle elite.

my weps are S/D A/T with on swap Bleeds for both sets, and End fill on foe demise and corruption sigil on the other.

So far i prefer this set up more then i did my condi-gen313 …and i loved that one!

I have had a chance to run some camps and fight some folks ( thieves,mesmers and guardians) and I am able to drop em faster then before and despite not having the dwayna runes and only 10 in BM (loss of healing power) I am staying full hp most the time.

so if you care about zookeepers why the hell you do things like

switch zephyrs speed on beastmastery 5 with the fail trait called instinctual bond.
whould it not better to remove the trait instinctual bond and create a usefull one?

also why we have fail traits like

stability training (staby for the pigs)
i have try it, my pigs dont become staby, buged?
also dont need a pig with staby because nobody use pigs and why the hell my pet need staby? better when the ranger become staby or not?

masters bond (pet become stronger after enemy kills)
this trait is fail because we have to switch much time our pets.

compassion training (pet heal is better)
well but we have no realy pets which heal when i press the f2
maybe full pet controll whould be usefull for this trait?!

enlargement (pet get more big when i have 25% life)
just wow, usefull trait-.-

healers celerity (i and my mates become swiftness when i go rez)
wow i rly need move speed when i stay around because i rez my mate-.-

soften the fall (less fall dmg and muddy terrain after fall dmg)
rly usefull!…

the trapp traits in skirmishing
not best idea for create a strong enough trapper build atm!

trappers defense (spike trap, when i rez my mates)
not rly usefull.. and each other trait is more interesting

spotter (150 preci when i use this trait)
but just fail to dont become as ranger also preci when i use this trait
and maybe its also more fun to have it in skirmishing

beastmasters bond (i become might and fury when pet become 50% health)
but i dont whant my pet die all the time or get low hp
because im nothing without my pet dmg atm-.-

and with longbow you can buff dmg and arrow speed as much you whant
this weapon will stay bad, because the skills are joke-.-

longswords and offhand axe will also stay not good weapon, if u dont rework some of this skills.

atm ranger feels not like a ranger, it feels like a zookeeper.
pls rename ranger to zookeeper next patch.

Yes, Aden. The only time it becomes Juvenile “pet” is when you compeltely switch off the pet with some other pet on your pet-list. Hope that makes sense. Your F4 switching pet thing does not reset the name.
